Market Manipulation [Wine Shade Dye]
i bet someone was careless and hasn’t realized what they have done yet :P
Perhaps they meant to put the 38 in the copper section, still, I ALMOST feel sorry for them if that’s the case.
I said it was “manipulation” simply because every sell order disappeared and they were being re-listed at 70g (for a 60s item), whilst the buy order was pushed up to 38g, the buy order may have been a mistake but that definitely looks like a manipulation attempt on the dye.

Perhaps they meant to put the 38 in the copper section, still, I ALMOST feel sorry for them if that’s the case (goodbye 3k gold if every offer fills, pitty it isn’t prime time, and offers are a bit slow right now), but it still reeks of manipulation so I don’t, hehe
How is it manipulation? Thousands of buy orders for 1c can be manipulation, a single buy order is not. There is no way to control a market like normal dyes.
And it’s a lot more costly than you think. When he placed the order, all the sell orders at 38g or less sold to him immediately, this is what’s left of the order. I’d say it was a flipper buying dyes in stacks of 250 to flip and he spent 6k gold or more by accident. That’s pretty bad luck, but it can happen to anyone. I don’t see the humor in his misfortune.

Seems a good chunk of them were bought up prior, there are only 63 up for sale at the moment. Thankfully I had an extra one sitting around and cashed that one in rather quick.
Oh that poor guy. Pays to check your posting I suppose.
That is not manipulation, that is one poor sucker who typed in the wrong tab.
Either they were all sold or s/he noticed and yanked the order. Now the highest bid is 40ish silver and the lowest sale is over 80 silver
Nice. I hope the person lost a lot of gold. Noone should have that much gold anyway.

Why not?

We could always put you in charge of how much gold each person has so that you are happy with the amount of stuff everyone has. I have a little over 100 gold right now, is that OK with you?
On topic, while I don’t think it’s funny he lost that much gold, I don’t feel sorry for anyone in this situation. If you want to play the TP, this is the possible price you pay for not paying attention.
Lol this is funny. Very funny.

I’ve done this before – not dye, but same mistake. You only do it once.
Man… I just found a wine shade dye yesterday. I used it.

It could be market manipulation. It’s kind of an old trick where you buy everything out, and post fake buy orders in the hopes that people will think it’s actually a valuable item to invest in. When they start putting buy orders above yours you sell to those people.
Though he went a bit overboard (if that is what has really happened). Any fool knows 40-70g for that dye is way overpriced.
This is definitely someone’s mistake, and not market manipulation to any extent. If anything, this is why there should be a confirmation window for when you click “Buy now” (and only there).
This is also exactly why I keep as much gold as humanly possible locked away in my personal guild bank. That way the gold isn’t there to make mistakes like this with. Unfortunately, each panel can only hold 1000g. It’s an annoying limitation, but at least it’s something.
Guy was trying to do something. You don’t buy 76 of the same dye for 38 silver unless you have 76 characters and REALLY like that exact color.
He was, 99% guaranteed, trying to buy a bunch so that he could MF them and maybe get an Abyss. He ended up spending nearly 3000g by accident.

I agree to an extent, as running around the zones in PvE, PvP, and WvW, would never produce such high levels of gold. JS caters to traders in the game. There should be an aging/degradation effect placed upon materials and for each transaction they go through. One that would reduce the rewards from hording/flipping.
For the original post, this is exactly why I don’t carry a lot of money on me No more than 10g unless I’m specifically buying something then would I withdraw it.
