Heya there guys, basically, I would like to know your thoughts on using mystic forge stones+exotics in the forge looking for precursors, as from what I gather, it doesn’t matter what type of exotic weapon you put in with the forge stone, they will always come out randomly. Is it worth saving one exotic at the cost of widening the pool of possible results?

That depends on whether you’re trying for a precursor of a specific weapon type or just want to get a precursor from any weapon type. If, for example, you’re shooting for Dawn or Dusk then you probably don’t want to use a Mystic Forge Stone since there’s a very good chance you won’t get a Great Sword back out. Instead, use 4 actual Great Swords. But if you just want a chance at ANY precursor then throw in any three random exotics or high-level rares plus a stone, and you’ll save a little money.

Personally, I save my stones to make Mystic Salvage Kits since those are guaranteed (and quite useful). I refuse to play the Mystic Lottery in a vain attempt to get a precursor. Zommoros and his Random Number Generator of Doom can kiss my little white Krytan behind.

Nice point, but I doubt I will ever go through 130 mystic kit stacks, especially with my good ol’salvomatic around, haha, I wonder if they will release further uses for them.

I make the mystic kits and have the salvomatic kit. The mystic kit I use exclusively on rares to cheaply maximize the chance for ectos. I wouldn’t think the salvomatic one would be a good use for that or the mystic one to salvage junk. They each have their specific uses.

astral i do the exact same thing, and as ive started farming recently its quite handy to know im not gonna run out of those kits any time soon its not worth it natsu, just imagine how devastated you would be if you got venom

A year ago, when the AP chests got introduced and everybody got them awarded retroactively most of my guild had around 100 of those stones.
Someone started throwing them into the forge with 3 of the cheapest rares available and got a precursor. Then the next one started and got a precursor, then the next one and so on. At that day, we got about 13 precursors in total, from 20 players using about 100 stones each.

I got colossus on my 4th try but nothing with the other 96 tries afterwards.
So personally i think the chance fo ra precursor is a little higher when using stones.

If i would try this again, i would do it with exotics now.

OP, I did exactly what you are thinking of doing and, with about 20 tries or so I got two underwater precursors and Tooth of Frostfang, which I sold for about 400-450g. I’ve since stopped doing this because I’m getting low on stones and like them for mystic kits (and would rather look for a specific precursor using dungeon exotics).

If you have lots of stones, have extra gold laying around, are bored and wanna see what comes up I’d definitely recommend giving it a try.
