Please, enough with the Town Clothes for now!
Seconded…….

ever existed in the first place.” – Siv
I dont think it’s just the gem shop that needs new armor skins. The reason there are so many town clothing skins in the cash shop is because you can’t get these ingame. They add them to the cash shop as an extra way to earn money for ppl that care. I wouldn’t be opposed to new armor skins for gems. But the truth is we just need new armor skins, wether it be dungeon, cash shop, wvw, however they want to implement aquiring it, just get us new armors. We have had numerious weapons, and back skins, but the only new armor skin we have had since launch is the molten gloves.
I want my Swimsuit. The hats would have been cool during Wintersday, but.. our living story is set ON A BEACH. !?!?!? Sigh… good move. Release the Swimsuits right as Southsun is going to become an afterthought again.
Being from California I didn’t even think about the hat and a beach. Its always cold and foggy here. :p
JAH Bless – Equal Rights and Justice for all.
Justice And Honor – Tarnished Coast.
I agree!!!!! I want new armor and weapon skins to make my character look like a hero, NOT a Muppet!
I agree they should be adding new skins to the shop for gems and as drops or rewards, it won’t be long before the game reaches a year old. Why are we only seeing a few rewards pieces?
I thought there was a design team dedicated to just this area, by this point there should have been a ton of new skins dropped in game.
They will be introducing new armor skins soon. Not sure if around the dragon festival, but it’s planned. You can even preview the models!

From .DAT:
Armor Skins! Customize Your Combat! A full set of heavy/medium/light-armor skins. The skins have no stats of their own and can only be equipped by characters who wear heavy/medium/light-armor. These skins can be applied once per piece to replace the appearance of another heavy/medium/light-armor -armor item. These skins can be converted for PvP use.

Or just let us wear town clothing into combat. I just want to wear my glasses…
I mentioned this elsewhere today, but it’s probably more fitting in this discussion.
The only thing that seems logical, to me, to justify the fact that there has not been a single new armor skin released for players to acquire since the game was released (other than the Karka Shoulders and Flame & Frost Gloves that are identical for all armor weight classes), is that they must be working on a ‘DLC-like’ package of armor skins made available through the Gem Store around the 1-Year Anniversary of GW2.
I expect it to be similar to how the Digital Deluxe Edition is available in the Gem Store already; you can buy the pack and it will be like a permanent upgrade to your account. Perhaps purchasers will be mailed an account bound device that summons a merchant upon activation with the collection of skins available for taking that is similar to the Hall of Monuments Stone and merchant available there where you can select the soulbound skins to apply to your armor an unlimited number of times. This release could also be seen as a form of mini content expansion to appease those that expected a full expansion after one year.
The First Anniversary Armor Pack #1
Pack Includes 5 Sets (6-pieces each) of New Armor For Each Gender And Weight Type
5 Sets, 6 pieces each
Male/Female Styles
Light/Medium/Heavy Styles
Makes for 180 individual new armor items for incorporation into existing armor outfits.
Cost: 8,000 gems
That is the only justification for starving the playerbase of new armor aesthetics for a whole year that I can see as being logical from a business standpoint. I’m not saying I agree with that strategy, just that it is the only way I can make sense of their lack of introducing any new armor content since the game was released.
However, for many it will simply be too little, too late. I would also expect huge outrage on the forums at the cost for the armor pack. Though, even at a cost of 8,000 gems (acquirable through both gold and real money), that would only be about 266 gems per piece, for a total of 30 armor pieces. People are dropping 200+ gems per piece on Towns Clothes. I could see all the Towns Clothes releases as being a trial run for gauging the price for the armor pack were it broken down per piece. So don’t be surprised if it is 10,000 gems for one armor pack, being 333 gems per piece.
Though, 5 sets make 30 individual pieces, each piece with gender variations actually makes 60, then across three armor weights would mean a total of 180 potential new looks to add to armor outfits. 8-10k gems doesn’t sound quite as bad, as it would only be 44 gems each at 8k, 55 gems each at 10k for having those 180 new armor items. Though, understandably, not everyone would be buying the armor pack for all of the armors included; perhaps they only really like 2 of the armors in the pack, or just a few pieces of the 5 sets for a mix n’ match style. And that is if they only release one armor pack, let alone Armor Pack’s #2 and #3 at the same time…which I would see as unlikely as it could be counterproductive to maximizing sales, though releasing 2 or 3 packs at the same time would cause people to burn through their gold converting to gems and force them to have to buy gems with real money to acquire the packs or be forced to wait weeks or months until they get enough gold again to get another pack.
Gem Prices
8000 = 100.00 USD
A hundred bucks does sound like way too much initially, but when you consider 180 skin variations it actually works out to about 0.55 cents for each armor variation. And since I’m sure many of us have several characters of different genders and armor weight types, it would seem much more likely that most of those 180 armor items will be used and 55 cents each would not sound too unreasonable to most, especially when you can use gold to pay for some/all of those 8k gems. Don’t get me wrong, I’d probably not cough up 8k gems, personally, but 4-5k for a pack I’d consider.
Oh well. I have a lot of thoughts on this subject, and the lack of aesthetic armor choices being released is the primary subject for which my continuing patronage of GW2 is pivotal.
I’m not saying that this is what will happen and to expect it, just that this wouldn’t surprise me and would actually make sense, to me, for their lack of armor releases to date.

i just want to wear town clothes in combat
Notalkingplz (PvE/Spvp) – Guardian
Rough Trade (PvE)/Urok Ashpaw (Spvp) – Engineer
I wouldn’t be opposed to Town Clothes being able to work in a similar way as Armor Skins, or combat-ready either. That would be pretty neat as well, but they really do need to add new actual armor skins to both the gem shop & in-game means as well.
If you google Guild Wars 2 or 1 concept art for armor skins there are so many ideas there that would fit perfectly into the games setting and would be amazing sets to have. I just don’t really get why they haven’t added more armor set skins to the gem shop though after all this time. If it’s a DLC pack for the anniversary or whatever then…Eh lol that’s okay but I’d prefer more regular updates with that instead because I would definitely spend my money on armor skins I really like, I just really don’t buy town clothes and have 0 vested interest in them. And if I feel that way I figured I wasn’t in a minority on this. And clearly I’m not. Thanks for the replies everyone!
You may well be in a minority. The only thing this thread shows is that you’re not the only one.
For the record, I think town clothes need to either be more useful (use in combat, they all have special abilities, etc) or they need to not take up storage space. I’m not buying any more skins at this point because I don’t have the room. If ANet really wants to make money off the collector mindset, they kind of fell down on the job here.
I cant be bother switching to town clothes… lol how lazy is that
Id actually just like a normal shirt. You know? Just a shirt you slip on?
I’m tired of looking at all these puffy sleeves and the hoodie was a no no for me.
I think a Gw2 shirt was given out to players but I just want a normal shirt for my character.
I’m usually typing on my phone
This is one area GW2 is getting spanked on.
Go take a look at the beta version of the Rift shop. It has tons of items and it has lots of different currency models. Not everything in the shop uses currency that involves rl money. They also have a ton of purely cosmetic items that do not have silly out of combat requirements (one of the dumbest things GW2 ever did).
Hell even Neverwinter lets me run around in my cosmetic gear if I want to and kill stuff.
actually GW1 has the best system for this by far, all you have to do is set it to visible in whatever way.
it can be in combat-only, town-only or just both, you can even hide it entirely per piece.
i do wonder what the designer was thinking, they made such a wonderful system in GW1 and they ruined it in GW2.
so after working on a game for 8 years they never learned from there own successes, they pretty much downgraded GW2 from it’s predecessor.

But obviously people are buying these town clothes. Why, I don’t know. I never see anyone wear one, or very very rarely. But I’ve seen threads where people complain that they need more storage in order to buy more. I’d be interested to know the percentage of people who buy them out of the general population. I know the Guild Wars 1 version was very popular. I would see people wearing costumes every day, not just every blue moon.
Edit: And please don’t RNG it. That would just be lame.
Agreed. I buy practically eveything on the gemstore, unless its RNG. If it wasnt for RGn i would have my christmass mini quaggan now.
I dont think they should stop making town clothing and make more armor. They should add more devs to the gem store and make both!. Also, let combat clothing fit in town cloth pieces, so we can wear the cute hats+ our normal clothes.
I think there isnt enough sexy medium (trench coats) and heavy to choose from… If they added sexy medium or heavy armor, or even light i would buy those for sure!
As far as i know he gem store is where most of their money comes from, so putting more devs in the gem store can only be good, right?

Lyssa’s Grimoire – a guide every Mesmer should read.
I want more legacy armor skins, myself. GW1 had an amazing amount of armor skins, and we could really use more than the few we have.
However, we definitely need more casual wear, too. But, I would prefer wider variety. Three hoodies at once, four vests next time, it’s a bit of an oversaturation. We need more types, not so many multiples of the same types.
yeah in other games i used to spend tons of gems(or whatever currency it is) to get great armor skins.the more armor the better as people like to look differently from eachother. i also bought the profane right away and was hoping there was much more to come shortly, but i’ve been waiting so long now. more armor please!
