Town Clothes??? WHY??? :'(
They were town-clothes last year as well, so it would be quite unlikely that they suddenly weren’t.
They are used for Costume Brawls, and thus can’t really be combat-able.

Excuses excuses. I’ve got all the everlasting tonics and the consumable ones for costume brawls. “Can’t be combatable?” What does that even mean?
They were released at the same time as Costume Brawl last year. Before them there were not a single item that made it possible to costume brawl (this has been change since, but before that was the case).
The Costumes are just that. Costumes. Not armor.
They can’t be combatable since they actually give costume brawl-skills, that wouldn’t work in combat, since the skills don’t do any damage.

Sorry if that last message came across as angry toward you… I’m sad that there is finally a skin I really love, and it’s useless to me. I do the odd costume brawl, so it’s interesting to see “useful” town clothes for one activity. It’s not an activity that has a lot to it.. other than giving something to people who want duels in PvE.
It mostly makes me so sad… GW1 we could wear our “town clothes” anywhere. I don’t like this one bit.
And as I said.. it really should make me happy that I am saving some money.
Still sad.
not bing armors is extremely bad and totally missed opportunity
i have 8 000 gems i was gona buy 1 if it was armor skin, not town clothes
“Because it would look silly to see people dressed up as Mad King in regular gear..”
Meanwhile paper bags and dragon wings… Anet what is wrong with you?
The Prince outfit would make a great armor skin. The Executioner could, I guess if you’re into that look. It’s pretty depressing, because they’re really really epic looking and you can’t even wear them in combat. I hate this whole town-clothes thing, and there are many people who feel the same way. If they dedicated all of the team that designs the armor/art for this game to new skins, they would have lot’s of new skins regularly in the gem shop and outside of it. I would pay for the Prince armor as an armor skin. But I don’t feel like buying any of it if I’m really only going to wear it once a year for 10 minutes.
I sympathize with people who want to wear their favorite town clothes as armor, but I also like town clothes more than the average person, so I’m personally happy with the system.

I feel like I see people tearing down this argument a lot, but people actually support it…very rarely, if ever. I’m sure someone, somewhere complains about immersion or silliness of wearing town clothes in combat, but I see a heck of a lot people raise the argument for the sole purpose of shooting it down themselves in the same post.
I mean, maybe it’s possible to interpret lordkrall’s post that way, but I read it as being more mechanical than flavorful.
Just what I was expecting, arena net made them townclothes yet again… I don’t understand that decision not to make it armor. Does anet want our money or what??? Pointless for people to get this as town clothes if they spend money on something they will use for 5 minutes and then throw it in the bank until next year.
I was already to click buy (with my $ purchased gems)
Me too. Alas, the company isn’t interested in $ purchased gems.
Same story with 3 x sickles that I would have bought (plants / wood / mining) until I saw “Soul Bound”.
Well, I bought two sets of tools in their first iteration, and the Jack-in-the-box because it is useable in the open world. As I don’t sit around in LA, I am not the target market for the product.
I think they do want our $ bought gems, they are likely the main revenue generator of the company.
Up until now, I’ve always bought two of the three packs of minis for special events (one set for the forge). This time, I didn’t bother.
Halloween feels a little over for me, this year. I’m having a great time in the WvW series, even though I was confused about the trash of soulbound boosters that showed up in the first day, then disappeared without a trace…
Got my candy corn mini, after so many years, so there has been some positive from the Mad King in 2013
If you haven’t seen it yet, you need to preview the Mad King costume on a Charr.
If I had to look at that on Charr constantly…I don’t even know…
Charr skins score another win.
If they were also available as skins it would be all the same for me, but I do like my town clothes. I would not buy a skin and have to use it on blue armor so that only some of my characters can wear it (medium, light…), but I do buy town clothes. Fun for all of them.
I have bunch of this fluff, I can just sit in game to play for ages… in my home instances. >:D
(I have never done costume brawl, outside of some hits by accident, then I rush to cancel all costume brawl stuff and check that I didn’t accidentally get anything to the achievement… no, I have no idea how costume brawl works. :P)
