Twister in a jar destroying jewelry market
Well, it can’t be salvaged, but apparently it can be Forged. No idea what the output is though.
This problem has really spun out of control.

Output: a random exotic trinket.
why would it destroy the jewelry market? as far as I know the jar has one stat set only, and one that I personally don’t use. The other stats should still be sellable as usual.

With the jar available for 15s, it only costs 60s to forge a random exotic trinket, so all exotic trinkets that drop from the forge will be available for ~75s, which is well under crafting value.

Yeah but most of those trinkets have stats that are hardly needed…

The possible outputs will be limited to jewelry that can be dropped not crafted.
Salvaged jewels/gems from these could have an interesting knock on effect for the rest of the jewelry market.
This problem has really spun out of control.
This pun was the highlight of the thread for me.
Edit Correction on possible outputs.

4 jars will output an accessory, so at worst it kills the accessory market. Also the possible outputs will be limited to accessories that can be dropped not crafted.

Not quite, you can also get rings and amulets by MF-ing 3 Twisters and one Mystic Stone.
I put 4 twisters and regularly got rings.

Yeah I just tested it and got an amulet as well.
Still shouldnt be too big a deal if their prices are driven down to salvage value.
Some of the drops that compete with dungeon token craftable jewelry might have an impact, but many of the unusual stat combos not being available as drops and of course the ease with which we can get ascended jewelry anyway mean the impact shouldnt be that big anyway.
Just tested this as well because I did not understand the fuss. When I bought them 2 seconds ago they where 21s roughly each. 84s or so to forge 4 of them. It spit out an Amulet that was worth 43s.
I can understand why this effects Jewelry making market (didn’t know it was that big) but I don’t see the profit here. I am not sure it’s worth forging these but I could be wrong or missing the point of forging them.

Well, your sample size is too small. Besides that, the damage is already done.
Before people started mass forging it, crafted trinkets usually sold around 4g.
Their salvage value was also higher because besides ectos/dark matter/ori, you could also salvage exquisite jewels off of them, which brought you around 50-70s.
But those values are also down to 10-20s, thanks to the mass salvaging.

This is entirely incorrect. Go and forge them, you’ll see.

Really now? Interesting… I might have to go buy up some Exquisite jewels tonight then. (Again, for my future crafting needs, since I’m holding off on discovering any Exotic jewelry until r500 Jeweler is released.)

I am quite sure they will reset all lvl 400 discoveries, just like they did with armor/weapons.

Oh yes, I’m sure of that too. But why waste my T6 mats and Ectos discovering recipes now when I’ll only have to discover them again when r500 comes in? I already reached r400 just by discovering T5 jewelry (and I’m not even completely finished with those!) so there’s no need for me to discover Exotics at this time.
We tested 4 jars last night few times and we did not get a better profit. Most of the items are below 80 and cheap as before so I don’t see what’s the fuss all about.
I don’t see this as a problem. They decided to increase the supply of exotic accessories and the prices droped. Why is it okay to increase the demand and make the prices higher (example silk) but the opposite is bad? It is not. TP flippers have to adapt to the market not the opposite.
It’s not the TP flippers who are complaining about this though. I think the people who are most upset about this are jewelry crafters who used to have small niches they could make profits in. With the overall collapse in Exotic jewelry prices thanks to people mass forging Twisters, that profitable market has disappeared.

The point of this thread was not whether you could make a profit anymore forging jars. The point of this thread is the utter destruction of the jewelry market following the introduction of ONE trinket, twister in a jar:

This is just amulets. The graphs on crafted rings and earrings and jewels look exactly the same. The graphs on dropped exotic trinkets now look exactly the same, too.
One item literally destroyed them all.

So what is the problem? It is not profitable to craft jewelry anymore. A lot of other crafting recipes are not profitable either.
@xDudisx- it has a huge knock-on effect, meaning people with exotic trinket drops lose out on money for their item. The materials used to craft these will sink, which can affect other markets. Dark matter probably has a calculated value, and although it isn’t trade-able, a lot of people buy exotics specifically for dark-matter salvaging (which would mean, on a more minor scale, that other exotics might be affected).
Either way, the SW Amber chest nerf has affected these prices. When the farm was active, from what I saw the Jars were 17s each, last time I checked post-nerf they’re somewhere around 27s. I’m not sure if that’s enough of an increase to change things though.

So much about the zerker-meta than
Seriously .. i don’t really understand it, since the Jar has stats that a lot players
not really want .. AND it has no exquiste jewel, and that is normally the most
expensive part on trinkets.
Just take a look here :
http://www.gw2spidy.com/recipe/3660
3g84s total price .. 3g62s of that is the price for the exqusit jewels.
Also .. why has just the price of amulets gone down but not earrings, since the twister
seems to be an earring (accessory) ?
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
Nice graphs. Prices shot right back up after the farm correction. Hope you saved your twisters!
Oh, it’s only the ruby that went back up..

Well played OP, you made be buy 4 twisters to test it out…Only to have a lvl 79 carrion amulet worth 50silver in return.
Also .. why has just the price of amulets gone down but not earrings, since the twister

People can use two accessories but only one amulet. If the forge kicks them both out in equal numbers the amulet will crash first.
Also, there aren’t any generic exotic trinkets (only the craftable ones) from the forge, so that market is a lot more constrained, period.

I’ll just quote myself here:

Other than that, I didn’t have jars when writing the post, or even after that. Now, in response to below:

Ascended rings and amulets are far easier to acquire than ascended earrings/accessories (especially if you use WvW badges to reduce the laurel cost of amulets). Hence the increased demand for exotic earrings/accessories. Not all people do guild content, and paying 40 laurels times 2, times every alt you have – is neigh impossible.

People are still buying and selling trinkets. What changed is whether people could make a quick profit crafting.
Thus, the market wasn’t “destroyed,” it merely evolved to a new status quo, which is something that healthy markets do in response to external forces. Anyone who’s been crafting or playing the TP should know by now that there are no sacred cows in the economy (also: no poutine or even bacon, but that’s a different topic).
