I looked at the armor on my characters again…

The heavy to me looks the best as it has the most coverage and might be bearable without the blue (I don’t have any characters that would go with the blue theme).

All the armors by far look best on blue Sylvari (I have green ones and it looks really really awkward on them – I like to at least see my characters’ faces and hair so full helms are a no-go for me).

Just please, in the future, make armors that have more chest coverage – I am not asking for much! This is the first armor that has pushed that limit for me (but I’d like some with more coverage, less frill, and some back/midriff skin showing).

It doesn’t look as bad as I thought, though, but maybe that’s because I previewed it on a Norn first and it looked horrendous and then I previewed it on a Sylvari?

Edit: Yes, I like the sparkly idea. But why can’t they be a layer on top of your char’s skin so they don’t cover up your char customization? Again, though, a little more coverage, please.

Not everyone must like this armor style, like not everyone must like previous sets. For me Zodiac Armors are just epick. I was waiting for armor looks like this. I hope that the blue shimmer effect will stay unchanged or make an option to turn off/on the effect if somebody don’t like it.

You know, another thing – I don’t mind the sparkles at all, but the blue miasma that emanates from the character is WAY overdone. Part of the problem is that the texture used for it (the “starfield” looking thing) is pretty low res, and it just looks ugly and distracts from the armor itself. This is most noticeable in Preview, and less so in game, but it’s bad in game too, at least to my eyes.

Yeah, I agree that not everyone has to like this armor style, or the next but I do appreciate that they’re trying to get creative. I think the armor designs themselves are gorgeous here, I’m not a conservative person by many means so I’m not bothered by the illusion of nudity. But again, I think of the blue part as a magicy type of armor, and makes us look statue-esque on purpose, I can appreciate this and more control being given over the blue portion would be fantastic. Or turning it off when you toggle off the helmet or something…I’m repeating this because I know now that they’re reading the thread.

I don’t want ArenaNet to get all conservative and boring on us because people worry about how “sexy” the armor is but what they’re seeing as sexualization of the armor, I’m just seeing as art depicting the form of the characters while keeping it actually covered. It’s the same as form fitted armor, except here we have a magic type of cover. Before, people were complaining that they were too conservative and making ugly armor skins, now some people are complaining that it’s too revealing when in reality it’s not actually revealing anything but gives the illusion of it. They cannot please everyone, and that’s why they shouldn’t try. Go one direction with one set of skins, go another in the next. And that’s what I believe they’ve been doing.

The artists/Anet have done a really superb job with these skins (I’m not overly partial to the heavy one personally, but It does look great on the right characters). And I want to let them know I do appreciate the effort they’re putting into giving us stylish and different armor skin choices rather than just being boring and unimaginative with all of it.

Okay, so here’s my definitive post on the nipples. It’s directed at anyone that either doesn’t see them or otherwise doesn’t believe me when I say they are there.

Below are animations from video taken in game at 7pm EST today, Friday the 21st. These videos were taken with the following settings:
Animation: High
Antialiasing: None
Environment: High
LOD Distance: Ultra
Reflections: All
Textures: Low*
Render Sampling: Supersampling
Shadows: Ultra
Shaders: High*
Postprocessing: High

Best Texture Filtering: Enabled*
Depth Blur: Enabled
Effect LOD: Enabled
High-Res Character Textures: Enabled

The settings marked with * are absolutely critical in being able to see what’s shown in the animations as follows:

Setting Textures to Low counterintuitively improves visibility of the nipples. It does not change the texture quality of the character in Preview, but it does reduce the speckledness of the blue miasma surrounding the character, which improves visibility. Setting Shaders to High uses the highest quality normal map, allowing the definition to be seen. At Medium, they are more difficult to see, and at Low the normal map seems to be totally disabled or otherwise massively reduced, and they are rendered almost totally invisible unless you know exactly what you’re looking for. Enabling Best Texture Filtering improves the visibility further as a result of better anisotropic filtering, but it’s an extremely minor improvement. If you don’t have the settings set up as described, you will have great difficulty seeing them, which may be contributing to the confusion or disbelief in this thread.

So, without further preamble: Here is the animation.

As for whether or not this is appropriate to even have on the armor, that’s a matter for further debate, but I don’t think Anet intended for it to be there considering their stance on making other armors more conservative (Orrian) in the past.

Well, again, I’m fine with this, however, if you are going to add nipples, at least place them correctly on the breasts. Currently as shown in the picture above, they’re really not anatomically right.

Did you watch the animation? That was from video taken in game, from the Preview window. It also shows up in the preview from the Gem Store. It’s possible that there’s a discrepancy between how it’s rendered in Preview versus how it’s rendered when character actually wear it, either due to lighting, post processing, or other factors – but I don’t actually own a copy of the medium version to wear in game to verify this.

And even if they were rendered differently between Preview and in game, I don’t really see what difference that makes.

Please, no more gemstore armor with Charr tail clipping. There have been a lot of sets of armor that I would love to have on my Charr in this game, the light and medium Zodiac sets included, but the same persistent issue of tail clipping comes to play. And with this set in particular, I cant even just simply use a different non-clipping top or leg piece because it looks awkward having all blue skin but that one section being normal skin.

When I previewed my armor it was not identical to ingame armor. And the difference between a preview that is not accurate and the actual ingame armor…… Well, may I again suggest you look at actual armor and see if this is something you still see. Basing an argument on an artifact of previewing and pictures may not be the soundest argument of all.

I posted screenies where you can clearly see it. It’s really hard to unsee after you realize where it’s at. A friend of mine even commented on them without me telling him about it THEN he bought the armor. :/

That’s actually pretty interesting. I thought it would be a placeholder for an armor part that they eventually decided to leave out.. if it’s not present in sylvari but exists on human and norn breasts, then what are they supposed to be? -_-

It’s almost like it’s actually supposed to be nipples and not some kind of Roman nipple armor.

Have you looked at the animation I posted? Because they’re symmetrical. One does look higher, but that’s because one breast is slightly higher due to the character’s pose in Preview. The character’s left shoulder is higher than the right, in a semi relaxed slouch.

Zodiac armour is absolutely epic! Please release more armours with effects in the future. It’s so different from everything else in the game that I absolutely love it!

As about the whole over sexualization debate – I consider this armour artistic. The nipple was probably not intentional and taken that out of context you can look like a goddess made of stars. Even if it had no armour anywhere on top of that goddess skin it would fly with me (having in mind that we wouldn’t get nipples, private lady part crack from the front side and lower region hair), making us look just like some sort of smooth aliens.

My opinion on female armour: as a female I like to reveal myself. I like my human body. I wouldn’t mind some more revealing armours in GW2. Please don’t modify this one by covering it up. If needed release an optional tick (like show helmet, gloves, etc) that allows you to toggle between the nude and not nude armour appearance.

I would much love to see more ‘priestess’ like armor for light armors – I only wear the light zodiac shoes, gloves & bottoms because I love the shoe curl & the golden clasps around the legs & the drape but the blue ethereal/transparent skinned legs kind of ruins it so I made based my ele off of a hindu goddess

I’m very interested to hear if this fix also fixes They also fixed the long standing issue of Radiant armor causing issues with phantasms. I think it also has fixed the issues of Radiant armor with Juggernaut and Radiant armor with stealth as well. Really, it seems that if an issue needs to be fixed then we need to find some way to show that it causes an issue with LS (slayer potions) or the Gem Store (armor particle effects and phantasms) for it to get fixed. Them finally fixing the Radiant armor issues in two days after 8+ months of begging for it to be addressed, then all that reporting and pointless and accomplished nothing because it wasn’t related to the gem store (achievement armor, legendary weapons). It took a gem store armor with particles experiencing the problem to get it fixed within a day or two because it could potentially hurt gem sales. This behavior saddens me.

(tested Radiant gloves with phantasms and it has been fixed…finally. Updated my post to reflect this)

I’ve just tried iZerker with my mesmer in Zodiac Armor, it seems fixed. The glitch with decoy is still there though.

Happy to hear they finally fixed the phantasm bug glitch with armors that have particle effects. Ugh took them long enough.

edit: blah the stealth bug is indeed still there. i hope they fix it next

For me this is by far the best Gemstore armor skin so far. I’ll buy my 2nd set today.

The only suggestion I have is about the face / helm. I think it would be awesome if there was an option that would show your normal face when you walk around and the blue face when in combat. It would make it seem like a protective visor that becomes active.

The helmet is a helmet. In this case it’s a full helmet and it was meant to cover your whole face. If you don’t like that then don’t show it, there is an option for that. There are tons of helmets in the game that cover the whole face.

Given that it was a fairly ordinary option in City of Heroes, yes, I believe the crack programmers at ArenaNet could figure it out if they had to, same as having a shield equipped covers your back item out of combat, and shifts on to your arm in combat. The tags/triggers are already present in the code and we can see them.

Never played that game, but the coding would be totally different. I am sure they could figure it out. However, it’s all about resources. I am sure this is not high on anyone priority list for the game sadly.

but maybe it being the skimpiest armour set is a good thing? All armour shouldn’t be covering and all armour shouldn’t be skimpy. This one is skimpy, the next one that they should release should be covering. The more variety the better.

More variety is better, but, part of my point is that it is and can certainly push some people’s comfort zone due to where the skimp is, not that it’s skimpy.

Everyone knows we’re going to be seeing skimpy armors. I’d personally like seeing an armor that had an open back, showed some leg, showed some midriff, and some arm… but not… that much of the chest area :/ On the set I’d like I’d like the chest to be at least as covered as Raven Shaman (which we can’t get >_<).

Some people comfort zone. Not everyone’s.
I’m willing to bet that if we were to really search, we’d still find someone on this game that still thinks women shouldn’t be allowed to show cleavage or shouldn’t be allowed to wear pants.
For better or worse, society is changing, today’s swimsuits would be extremely inappropriate 200 years ago.

Societies don’t go through a straight line from conservative to liberal. It’s a sine wave – and feminists these days split on the subject – is it empowering to be wearing skimpy clothes/showing the female form or is it demeaning because that’s what we’re expected to do and get ogled at if we do so?

It pushes mine because it shows the fronts of the breasts to the point where it would show “tips” if it weren’t for the blue shinies on the human and Norn sets. Note: Showing “tips” is considered indecent exposure here in the US. There isn’t a swimsuit that would be able to be worn publicly with that amount of skimp on the breasts.

OVERDESIGN
When players already looks like 120W lightbulbs with 10 different effect item, how would it make sense in the lore? Whenever something new cames out, its an overdesign. More shiney, more effected, more freaking dishousting, or just has a visual that doesn’t even fit in the unique GW2 design, which is already a hard candy.
AION & TERA is still more serious, but thats not a reason to follow’em…

I can see just fine why some people don’t like it. I disagree with them. If it makes you uncomfortable then I suggest not looking at it. I know this sounds rude. I am not trying to be rude about it. But there is no way to please everyone. Some will like it, some will hate it, some will feel uncomfortable by seeing too much boob, etc.

Some sets will be a winner and some will not. I disliked the reskined, “just add fire” sets, this is much better in my opinion. I like the blue star-y kinda look. I don’t love the helms. and so I don’t show mine.

I have a Norn thief covered in tats. I have armor that shows as much of them as possible and leaves her with a little clothes as possible. I am still looking for smaller boots.

I do understand your point and others as well. I am just not sure what the solution is. Should they cover more and make some uncomfortable players happy? Or should they leave it as is, and make those who bought it happy.

I actually agree there should be like an elite armor skin that costs a hell of a lot more than the normal ones in the gemstore :O make it limited time too.

They should leave it as-is and consider that they may have pushed it too far for future armor sets.

No, they don’t have to. The unicorn legendary obviously doesn’t fit in the lore.

I’d just really really really like a few NPC armor sets (and I know many others like them) and am confused why they haven’t and/or cannot either put them out in the gem store or in-game somewhere (they’re already modeled).

Edit: This is going to sound odd to you but I really don’t want the armor set changed. The only possible change I’d like is giving optional different colors (say, red, yellow, blue, green, and purple).

I just pointed out a clipping issue on female sylvari where the ‘underwear’ of the armor clips right through the back end of the skirt of the armor.

Just wanted to warn others of this and to maybe hold off on getting the armor (for a female sylvari) until it gets fixed as it is pretty bad most of the time.

ALSO
The inside texture of the skirt does not match up with the outside texture of the skirt on both sides.

• Outside texture hangs off of the outside lower bone of the waist armor
• Inside texture hangs off of the top-inner bone of the waist armor

As for Lovestruck? Love is a massive part of life, real or virtual, and in the GW universe, is a common interaction and theme.

So yeah, from my point of view: blue skin in nice, it’s something different. But I can see how some might not like it. A blue skinless version would probably alleviate such issues, just add another option (call it Zodiac plain or something) which is only the armour and no skin texturing.

Can someone please review the design of the Zodiac Light Pants and how it views from the back? I think the armor looks amazing from the front, but when you turn your char around… the behind is just disproportionately massive.

I have attached a screenshot of my human girl (one of the skinniest model) in her rather humorously unflattering skirt. I suggest just a very minor tweak to width of the skirt would be enough. If you try looking at both separately, the difference is quite remarkable.

Going to second that motion here. It’s ok on the skinniest figure you can make, for human and Sylvari (and I mean ok, as in not great but ignorable if you don’t look too close) but on anything else such as a normal figured female char, that char looks obese. My female Norn with a normal not skinny body looks like she gains 200 pounds, all in the butt, when I preview it. It’s really bad and off putting.
