account bound would mean i only need 1 of each just like the copper-fed-salvage-o-mattic, so i’d like 23x 800 gems refunded to me, ill just upgrade the 3 remaining tools

Personally I don’t understand how this would make it any different for you, you still have all your gathering tools on demand, you would just have to pick them up from a bank whenever you wanted to gather something(if you only had bought one bunch of gathering tools)…so you got what you paid for now with an extra bit of functionality and you are upset? I guess I just don’t understand I bought one of the black lion merchant permanent contracts instead of ever buying infinite gathering tools.

I totally agree with Magische. I have 8 characters and bought all three unlimited gathering tools on each character. That’s a ton of gems. I did this under the impression that Anet would not release account bound versions of these. Making the tools account bound make absolutely no difference to me and now just make me mad that I bought something that I would not have if I knew they would do this! I bought 1 Copper-fed-salvage-omatic and deposit it in my bank everytime i switch characters. Buying 8 of those would have just been silly and super expensive. This is exactly would I have done with the tools. Anet, make it right and give people back their gems or at least partial gem refund for these tools. I’m sure there’s many people in my position that bought these tools in good faith not expecting to be screwed over.
Anet does something nice, and people complain. The forum is batting 1000.

i have 9 characters, 8 of those are equiped with a full set of unlimited gathering tools, one of those characters has the 2 new tools and is still waiting for the unlimited axe to come out. now with this new update to make them acount bound i’d like to sell 23 of my 26 unlimited harvesting tools. PLEASE give me my gems back… you dont know how mad i am right now! i could have had a frkn legendary -.-

I don’t know that you’re being entirely fair with your made up quote (it’s not like it was an unreasonable assumption) but now that I think about it, they are probably just going to refund the gems, not the real world money used to buy them, so other than the employee time to fix it, it doesn’t really cost them much to make some very good customers happy.
Pretty decent of Anet to see it this way too. That is good customer service. Well done.

I’d probably still keep 2-3 sets depending on how many characters you have, I’m super lazy and would hate to bank to swap each time I play on my new character. But defnitely awesome that Anet is looking to refund these for some players.

Wow. I’m honestly surprised you would consider refunding the gems, Gaile. O.o I’m not complaining; I agree it’s a nice thing to do for people who only bought multiple copies because they were “forced to”, but it just caught me by surprise.
Personally speaking though, I won’t be refunding mine. I bought them for the convenience of sticking them on my characters and never bothering with tools again. Having to swap out tools at the bank would just put me back at square one again.

I had buyed 2x Molten Alliance Mining Picks and over months i didnt use´d the second one.

I know how you feel. I have 12 sets that costed me $360.

Haha, I know what you mean about the convenience of having multiple characters outfitted with these bad boys even if they are account bound now. I bought 20 over the year for my various alts, most recent being the Bone Pick and Jack-in-the-Box Scythe for my Necromancer. I’m quite happy that ArenaNet decided to make the tools truly account bound. It wasn’t a big deal for me but I can totally understand it being a blow to some one’s piggy bank. Is this potential refund for a limited time?

Yeah, i need all of my 14 tools and will at least need one more logging Axe .. since i often gather with 4-6 characters, and shifting the tools around all the time is not an option.

I deleted at least 6 of my infinite tools when I re-rolled some of my characters, as the infinite tools were soulbound at the time and was unhappy with my character’s armour – hence why I just deleted the chars without a second thought. In hindsight if I knew they were eventually going to be account bound, I never would have done it.

This is a VERY nice thing to do. Magische Boek and others in the same situation should be very grateful for this (and no, the simple ‘thanks for the reply Gaile’ you wrote doesn’t count. Where’s the ‘thank you for refunding my hundreds of dollars worth of gems’ post hmm?)

It’s nice for people who only bought one set. It’s not for people who spent a ton of gems on them for multiple characters solely because they were soulbound on use. If they spent real money on those gems, it’s actually better for people who spent less money. It’s not that hard to understand, is it?

I’ll buy infinite gathering tools when 1 tool will equip all my toons. Who wants to deal with the hassle of finding a bank so you can unequip your tool and then re-equip on another. I’m better off just buying another bag slot and getting extra orichalcum tools.

you would of had to keep the character to exchange the tool for an account-bound one, since you need to carry it to the BL specialist to get the exchange. that must of been some REALLY crummy armor that you had to delete the character to get rid of it – kinda like burning down your house because the front door always squeaks.

I agree with your math. not sure where his 70,000 gold from 18,400 gems came from. that would mean 100 gems gets you 380 gold. at that rate, it would cost 542 gold to buy 100 gems (77.5 times the current rate)

I think it would make the most sense to just give 600 gems to each unlimited tool beyond the first of each type. The players with unlimited tools have already been using them for a while so it’s not like they didn’t get anything from buying them. Also the new account-bound versions are 1000 gems each, so refunding 600 of the original 800 paid for each would mean that they are getting 1000 gem items for 200g each (that are really just better versions of the ones they already decided were worth 800g each). Letting them keep the tools would be much more convenient than passing them through the bank every time they switch characters.

I wish I could open a ticket, but the password reset on support page doesn’t work and the support is so terrible that, after opening a password reset ticket, they reset my game account password instead of the support one. Now I have a new pw to memorize (its like the 6th I have for GW2) and still can’t access the support page. I wonder if the refund will be in time to buy the new account bound tools, but knowing GW2 support I am losing hope of even get the refund at all. More broken promises…
I prefer to buy another stack of 4s tools and use it on every character when i want. Instead of go to city, place acc bound tools to bank slots, relog etc.

This is my problem too. I have two extra molten axes & two extra consortium harvesting sickles now sitting in my bank but I’ve tried every password I can remember to try & log into support because that doesn’t update with my game password and it won’t send me the reset email. >.< I’ll keep trying I guess.
