Guild Leader – Miscast
Blackgate
Just wanted to see if other Charr players agree with me. My main is a Charr Necromancer. I absolutely love the combination, or I used to. Now that I’ve previewed the end game cloth armor on him, I’ve realized that Charr and cloth armor don’t mix. I can’t help but feel like I’ll level him to 80 only to be unsatisfied by his looks.
Can anyone convince me that a Charr Necromancer is still as awesome as I thought it was? Or should I just reroll to a human/norn so that, at 80, I’ll look as cool as I want.
Thanks,
My Charr Necro is lvl 71, and the gear looks fine on her at the moment. In the end, it’s opinions. If you don’t like it, others do, just do what you feel; no-one’s going to judge you or stop you.
Try the tier 3 cultural armor with black dye.
im playing a charr necromancer too and have the same problem.
most of the cloth sets look ridiculous and im still looking for a ‘Pants’-item that doesnt look like a skirt.
For the last 70 levels my charr necro looked the same tbh.
Around level 20 the Necromancer armor set (at least the pieces you get from karma vendors in Snowden Drifts, but I’ve seen drops with same models as well) looks really amazing on my Charr – it’s the one with spikes on the shouldpads and bones hanging everywhere.
I’ve been transmuting that set onto gear upgrades for the past 40 levels now, and unfortunately with no change in sight until level 80.
At 80 the Whispers set looks good too, but I don’t know if you have to be inducted into that particular order to get it.
As for end-game, I’m personally in love with the exotic token set from Citadel of Flame (gives your Charr a fiery tail and all), but it’s rather expensive, and the 120-token rune that comes with the set pieces is completely useless for Necromancers, so having to pay for that just to replace it seems rather disappointing.

Hehe, I just got some of those Snowden pieces last night for my male Charr necro and thought they looked pretty great too! (I still need to find the shoulders.) I prefer that kilt (ok, skirt) look vs. the pants.
I have found some clipping with some combinations of shoulders (mantle, iirc) and the coat. It seems like they were a little sloppy when creating armors and fitting them to the bodies.
I have a bit of an easier time of it being a girl, so I don’t need to look for pants. That must be tough for you tom cats.
Looooove the Snowden drifts set!! I remember seeing the concept art for it before the game was out and saying “That one please!” I can’t believe it’s just 20-something kama rewards!
It is kind of annoying that I have my perfect look down so soon though, as none of the tier stuff interests me… although I saw a pic of a Charr in the Nightmare armor last night and that looks pretty amazing! The collar is way more impressive than on any of the other races.
Thanks for the responses everyone. After some thought, I’ve decided to roll a human necro. This way, I’ll always be excited about the next tier of gear, instead of dreading how it will look on my Charr. Thanks again
Yup. Cultural armour is the way to fix your woes. There are also other good armour sets out there as well that account for the tail and look really spiffy.
It’s just that their model designers got incredibly, amazingly lazy with some of the cloth and leather sets. And if they were on my payroll, they’d get a sound clip around the ears and I’d be sure to send them back to the drawing board to fix these issues.
Here’s my armor from Snowden Drifts karma vendors….
Well if you’re interested in farming the explorable dungeons for armor I think the Flame Legion and the Orrian Dungeon sets look very good for Charr Necro
I created a second necromancer (yes, I know…) to complement my level 80 asuran one. The Charr necromancers just look great when geared up! We all know that a lot of the robes and stuff look… silly… on a Charr, but there are several sets that actually look great. The Berserker armor looks really amazing on Charr. This is from a post on GW2 Guru of a Charr necro:
My main is a Charr necromancer. I love it. I usually just hide the headgear since most of the headgear doesn’t show horns.
For those who prefer pants instead of skirt try Conjurer Pants – with those you can see weapon graphic properly also, although they arent looking too ‘necro’
For head piece Im using one I bought for karma from Legionnaire Neverburn (Diessa Plateau I believe) – it gives 4 additional horns! ;>
@Takarazuka.3025
There is no ‘Berserker armor’ -’ Berserker’s’ is just stat determining prefix
BTW Could any1 post preview of charr in Vigil Light Armor?
You can make any armor look like another if it bothers you. You could even make lvl 80 exotic armor look like your starter gear.
Part of the reason to farm the dungeon armors to use their graphics, not their stats (which are terrible)
I used some snowden pieces and the rest cabal sets, if you dye it right it looks pretty sick. I only did it on my female charr necro though so idk if it still looks ok on males. Shouldn’t really matter though most sets look the same on both.
So this is mine:

i gave up looking for a non-skirt pants item and just picked the Shadow leggings.
Im quite content with it, only that stretched bird skull makes me want to slap the responsible armor designer…
Was a tough decision between the wraith mask and the tier1 cultural armor ‘Invoker helm’ tho.
My real favourite chestpiece wouldve been ‘paggas garb’:

but i cant stand that single spike of cloth that sticks out.

That specific graphic is known as the “Dry Bones” skin, it can be obtained from karma vendors or made with tailoring. Due to PvPing and not farming up my profession level or dungeons for tokens, I am a level 80 charr running around in level 30 gear, because it’s what looks cool.
I kept my Ghost Wraith mask, the mask that came with the character creation and transmuted it with a level 80 Carrion head armor, since I’m quite disappointed with head armors hiding or modifying their horns.
and yes my main is a Charr Necromancer, the horns has really a good synergy with the necro class.
I have a bit of an easier time of it being a girl, so I don’t need to look for pants. That must be tough for you tom cats.
Psh. I’m a tom cat, and I’m fine with long coats and robes and such. Not to mention kilts.
(seriously, why does everybody call long garments “skirts” no matter what?!)
I just think the draping stuff looks terrible on charr in general. That being said, on my own Charr Necro, I really liked the look of the scholar gear on the karma vendor just north of black citadel, in Diessa Plateau. The one that’s a heart task?
I think it’s called Oldgate. Even though it’s got a hood, which looks weird with charr horns and ears clipping through it, it gives my charr a real sinister-looking appearance, so it works.

Try the tier 3 cultural armor with black dye.
I found the T3 cultural armor is the worst, with T2 barely better.
The T1 cultural armor is by far the best for black.
