I’ve never rolled a female in any mmo I’ve played. I’ve been playing since EQ in ‘97. I just rolled my first female toon ever last night. Female Charr look so kitten awesome! Sine if the faces look cute and feminine but still retain that dangerous mama tiger look that let’s you know to keep your distance.

Some if their faces (like the old alley cat missing a tooth and with cataracts are scardownright scary). I wish the male faces were as intimidating as the scary females.

My friend went out of his way to make his femcharr adorable.

It worked. She’s like a big cuddly kitten with a two handed sword. I was thinking of making one myself, but I don’t know what class.

I suggest Warrior or Guardian—heavy armor looks the best on Charr, and has the fewest clipping issues.

I like what you did with the tiger pattern and green eyes—she looks very striking!

Maybe he’s going to cut her tail off and make it into a lovely Wintersday scarf?
That or it’s jealousy. He doesn’t even have a tail tuft—it got burned off. His tail looks like a rat XD

It can be a little difficult for people to identify the female charr, but usually it’s easier just to look at the fluff on their tails. Males have lion like tails and Females have fur running from the base to the tip.

It’s true though, most of the time I see male charr more than female, but that’s to be expected.

All my characters are female, including my charr. I wouldn’t even notice the gender of any players most of the time, although I’m aware of the tail difference.

I don’t like my charr’s voice though. It sounds to me like the sound quality is slightly distorted, like you find sometimes with amateur-made game mods.

The female charr voice during cutscenes sounds fine to me. My issue with the female charr voice is mostly just the falling and pain noises. Before I rolled one I remembered hearing those pain sounds when fighting charr, and to me they sound like a younger male charr. Then I started playing a female charr and realized those are my pain sounds. It’s still hard for me to associate the noises with a female charr.

I don’t particularly like the female voice, but for me it’s the exact opposite reason. I think she sounds too feminine. I’ve noticed that other female charr voices sound female, but also rougher and more fitting for a charr. While the player-character female charr sounds almost like a normal human woman.

I don’t know about others, but I play the Charr to be a giant bloodthirsty monster in an expansive industrialist empire.

I don’t associate those with feminine qualities, and I often get annoyed with female Charr npcs in-game as they attempt to use masculine voices

They’re not attempting to use masculine voices. It’s natural that they have deeper voices, because they’re huge cat-beasts. If a high-pitched human female voice came out of a giant monster’s throat, now THAT would be annoying.

I like the female charr, though I do wish some would have better horns, and I wish they’d use the female voice for things like mining, as I sound like a very manly female charr.

I also like that you can make them really cute, or terrifying (or both).

My 2 mains are female charr.
I think its sad when people want the beast races to be sexy, In real life a female tiger doesn’t look all that different from a male. Heck, even with chimpanzees there isn’t there isn’t much difference.

I think female Charr look cool and graceful and its nice that I’m not excluded from the beast race just because I’m a female (I’m looking at you Perfect World International). Plus I get to play a somewhat rare combination, so I guess its not too bad that they’re “unpoplular.”
Remember popular doesn’t always equal good, the Twilight books are proof of that.

Also, because I’m new I don’t have any good gear, but it will be fun to share pics of my two Charr once I get further into the game

Here’s my guesstimate on the subject.
Most hardcore gamers are male while more casual gamers are female.
So it’s typical to see more male gamers, as we all know.

When a male gamer sees big powerful races, he associates them with masculinity. When a male gamer wants to play as a female character, he will want to roll something that is more traditionally feminine. He does not view large, powerful races as a good way to display femininity so rarely will he choose to play a female of this variety.

However, female players can be much the same way too. It’s a cultural/societal thing. I would argue that those of us who do play charr females are more “aware” and possibly tired of the only one way females are traditionally portrayed—beautiful. Whereas men are portrayed as visually different. (Nerdy, average, strong, wide, handsome etc.)

Overall, I am mostly pleased with the design of women in this game, except maybe norn females. Even the NPC females seem to be portrayed fairly.

I just created my third female charr last week—fourth of my charr overall. Raigra Gorebutcher was made for a couple reasons—because I want to use a heavy armor combination I like on a charr, but I didn’t want to change my other charr warrior’s set. And because there are three female faces I love (the tiger face with white patches, the scary face, and this face) and I want the chance to use them all.
Raigra Gorebutcher is very stereotypical blood legion—aggressive and stupid. She’s a henchman to my other (smart) Blood charr, Nyoka Gorefell.

the 2nd character i ever leveled to 80 was a femcharr thief, but i only recently gave her proper equips and started playing her often. the femcharr voice is one of my favorites, i always thought it fit really well. LONG LIVE THE IMPERATOR

and i lovelovelove her lines when you pick up a rare item:
“And I deserve it, too.”
“OH yeah, that’s MY loot!”

ever since i started playing her again, i go to the black citadel once a day to stare at my dream cultural set. minus the shoulder part, it will be around 6 gold for the set and 7 gold to transmute. i’m flat broke from equipping her, so for now all i can do is make my daily visit to stare at the beauty of a thief in this set:

For months I disregarded the charr race as I hated their story and the way the females look. I had tried many times to make a female charr only to either not finish it or delete it before I truly leveled. Finally I came up with a more “feminine” looking charr that I could stick with. My mesmer is about 34 at the moment but here’s an old screen of her. I’ve named her after my cat and colored her similarly. Yes I know I’m silly.

It depends on how you design a female charr. The most popular kind among players is the cutesy, skinny kind. I think people like to try and make them look like their pet cats. But there is a ton of variety among the females, and they can also be made to look bulky, fierce, and imposing. Give the character creation a run-through and see for yourself :P

Indeed. Female Charr actually have a wide array of options. My Charr use to be skinny herself, until I realized just how much better I liked the bulky body type. She still has the cute face, but now looks much more imposing, and her armor more then makes up for the lack of fierce factor. :P

Trying to remember what led me to make a female charr. I don’t think I originally planned to make a female charr. I remember seeing one necromancer with CoF armor outside AC, and thought it looked awesome. So I created a female charr necro of my own (one of the aformentioned white tiger ones on Tarnished Coast).

It almost became my main at one point, even if my true main was already 80 and relatively geared. I think it was mostly the necro part (made a second one, female asura), but I still thought myself unique in the triple odd combination. The white fur actually makes her seem ethereal with a slight glow. I think it was the time I heard her say “Achieving, the life of/for me” when I thought she was a keeper (might have also been when I heard her go “I am death incarnate,” but all necros say that). I think she’s a bit ‘cute’ or just less monstrous, but I’m sure she can look fierce in a pinch (she was originally designed to be ‘motherly’ or something).

Male, btw. I originally planned a female human mesmer because sexyness, but stuck to sylvari because I preferred less. Still think my charr represents me the best of my characters (along with my main asura).

I still find it curious that people find female Charr so uncommon… Pretty ordinary on TC seemingly. Definitely still less than the males though.

Same story for my engineer. Recently used a total make-over kit on her, mainly so I could give her more a standard bulky physique, and make her much taller (Previously shortest height possible).

It honestly just suits her better, I feel. Iron Legion, sturdy, tall and proud!

Here’s a rather dated picture (Novemberish) of my engi, pre make-over. I still love how this one came out though. I’ll post a current one when I get a few screenshots of my other Charr.

I can just imagine her saying: “Time to hunt some prey…”

I made my female Charr with the minimum height and smallest build, but that’s because she’s supposed to be a scrawny kid, starved for insubordination by the Flame Legion before she ran away from home and enlisted with Ash. If I made a second female Charr (and 4th Charr overall), I’d make one much more physically imposing I think.
