In my opinion: All Charr Armor is Terrible
Feycat: Look into the Pit Fighter lv70ish chest, it’s probably as close as you can get.
Yeah, that would be great, but both my charr are medium-wearers.
Basically, I’m having to put both of them in Vigil armor since it’s sleeveless and has tags for the skirt instead of a solid skirt, so my tail can stick through without clipping.
There are only few armors that tail has been taken into consideration. Since I spend most of my time looking at my character’s posterior, this is a quite big problem. Most medium armors feel like my ferocious charr is wearing pannier/hoop skirt/tutu. I guess need to dye it pink and get pretty My Little Pony shortbow to complete my look (sarcasm).
I know what OP means. Only the Cultural and some other look good on Charr (flame legion etc. + talking about heavy armour only). Any other look way better on Human/Norn than Charr. Some samples Human vs Charr:

I’m not too happy with my armor on either of my Charr characters either (and both wear Medium armor unfortunately, so I don’t even get variety between the two). Trenchcoats everywhere.
Though aside from the tail clipping, which is horrendous the problem isn’t really Charr-specific. My problem with medium armor is more the fact that its not medium armor. A trenchcoat is something I’d expect for light armor. Medium armor should be leather at the lightest, and probably more along the lines of chainmail. Not cloth.
What do you think about this combination? (Medium)
- PvP Leather Helm
- Arms of Koda
- Trapper Coat
- Claws of Koda
- Orrian Leggings
- Paw of Koda
I like my charr warrior tier 3 armor
Anyone know if there anything that resemble Ash Legion medium armor?. I found some Ash Legion recipes but that was for tailoring. =/
Just wondering since my Charr is Ash, and the bandit mask is really yucking me out at this point. =/

Cant agree more, I love charr and The story is great but the armor (heavy in my case) looks afwull.
Also been thinking about remaking, just so I can have good looking armor. I am also max level.

If you’re meaning the armour the ash soldiers around the place are wearing I think that’s actually the tier 1 light cultural armour.
im farming for few hours every day, cos i hate almost all armours for charr, so i can get gold to buy armour that i like, heavy t3 armour, imho 120 gold its way too much for just the skin, cos its only rare, atm we all have atleast 2-3 exotic armour sets from dungeon… so far i’ve spent 62 gold on shoulders/arms/chest and only 3 more pieces to go… and im getting bored just by farming same old events over and over to get gold for the skin and i think most ppl think the same
Anet pls put more effort in charr’s armours cos i doubt ill rool another charr as my alt with all those ugly armours and i wont farm again 120 gold for another t3 skin that im 200% sure…
i would like to see more faces/hairs on charr like humans have more then 20 options
ps. i think full t3 armour skin should cost max 50 gold, that would be fair price

Most of the armor on Charr is horribad, there are a few exceptions but otherwise just plain humancrafted stuff. Helms (aside from Cultural) look like it was made for humans and got strapped on, most skirts clip horribly with tail(and making me look fat), trenchcoats ofc clip also all the time, Boots don’t look any good but that’s the least of our problems.
Sadly I don’t see these getting fixed anytime soon with the artteam being busy for Halloween and later Christmass this year.

That is a nice rollout for visual representation, Beyreva. I might have to go after some of that. =)

As the self-proclaimed resident expert on Ash Legion uniforms, I’ll go ahead and list out the full set:
Dyes:
- For all the dark blacks: Abyss
- For all the silvers: Graphite
- Certain accent colors: Ebony, and other colors seen (such as lavenders and golds in the cases of special NPCs and sentinels)
In many cases, you can get away with using Black dye in place of Abyss, even though it isn’t technically correct. Sometimes you have to go with what’s in your budget The cases of special colors used can be found with certain NPCs. I’ve seen 2 separate female Ash Legionnaires wearing a muted “lavender” color for the sleeves on the coat (I’ve not taken the time to determine the dye used). Sentinels have the main and secondary panels on just their gloves colored gold (also haven’t taken the time to figure out the exact dye). As such, I take this as a “go ahead” within the lore that sometimes the uniform is slightly customized to the wearer when warranted.
Light Armor set:
- T1 & 2 cultural. Most commonly T1.
- Also the same look as the “Ash Legion” crafted (tailor/light armor) set of karma recipes.
Medium:
- Level 40 crafted armor.
- Leatherworker 150+ and in the “Coarse Leather” tier. Sometimes the pants are different, but I haven’t taken the time to look up everyone’s coat and figure it out =p
Heavy:
- Varies. Most commonly a mix of T3 and T2 cultural, and Banded armor.
- Pants are often T2 cultural, occasionally T3.
- Gloves and boots are commonly Banded, as are shoulders, though sometimes shoulders are T3 cultural.
- Chestpieces are commonly T3, sometimes T1.
- Just look at some of the NPCs in heavy and decide what you think fits you (and your budget) best.
The nice thing about going with a “canon uniform” is it accounts for tail clipping. The worst culprit is our medium armor, but it is hidden under a secondary flap so it isn’t horribly blatant.

I’m farming for my t3 now cuz imo culturals are the only armors that are made for charrs..
I think the problem with most helms for Charr is that they make the head pieces too wide. If they made models fit closer to the face it would be a huge improvement. As they are now they are too wide, and come off kind of goofy looking with a couple of exceptions like the heavy T3 cultural helm.
Those are brave men. Let’s go kill them.
Charr and asura armors (except asura cultural, that’s just kitten) are just plain awful.
I would like to buy or have a race change. Charr armor sucks. Medium armor for a charr is so nasty and FULL OF CLIPPING!!!
If looking cool is what the game is about, I am SOL…
Lowest graphics settings because I’m cheap.
I like this, I like armor that looks functional. Only need to find better shoulders.
It’s heritage armor with guild chest

I’ve found this old thread on gwguru and the linked pictures made me sad about how charr now
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/9034-charr-with-different-body-structures/
I had a large discussion with my guild about Charr.
We all wish they stood more upright, like they did in GW1 as casters. We all do not mind the hunched over look, but we don’t like it 100% of the time. The charr never stand upright unless saluting, or that emote of tossing their weapon in the air.
Some asked if I thought ArenaNet would ever patch them to stand upright. I love the idea, but no. I don’t think Anet will give us that. They would have looked so much better though had they modeled them to that upright standard.
As far as armor…. omg it is terrible.
Anet says time and time again how they aim for a high standard. So why didn’t anyone on the design team raise their hand and say “we can’t do this for their armor. All we did was stretch the graphic. It is terrible and cheap and our players deserve better.”
Where was THAT guy?
Yeeeeah. I love the Charr. I think they’re really interesting and all that. But I would totally race change my charr ranger if I could.
We just look goofy a majority of the time. Before I started getting CoF gear, I looked like a monster trying to wear human clothing.
Side peeve – I somewhat find the tail flick animation while shooting my bow to be a bit obnoxious.
I do feel that this will be addressed though. I commonly hear that Char look the worst in most gear. Especially medium.
I wanted a Charr but I have to agree that that most of the time they look horrendous in armour.
Jumping and armor are the worst two factors of being a Charr character IMO. I hate all of the armor models on my Charr. They look overstretched, goofy and out of place.
Their cultural armor (medium in particular) looks primitive at best, coming from a race of supposed better craftsman than dwarves it seems to make no sense. There are bone or wood lattice bracers, from the race with tanks and choppers.
Sure wish you could change your race.

Most of the armor looks bad, but what is worse is that even the cultural armor has clipping. I mean, jeez… Its supposed to be designed for charr, yet still has clipping! The T1 shoulders also float in mid-air. I am not impressed.
Apart from that, I really like the charr actually. I was so surprised to see them in-game. Now I can’t imagine playing another race, so the whole armors looking bad is really a big issue for me.
branded creature, icebrood creature, war war war.
mel: Soft kitty.
I have personally stopped playing until Charr armor is fitted properly. There is literally not a single set for my Ranger that I am motivated toward obtaining simply because the Charr looks horrible in all of them.
Shamefully playing WoW until small things are fixed, including the main hand weapon bug Charr currently have.
T3 Charr heavy armor is best armor
Warrior | Turge Battleborn
Mesmer | Lia Duskborn
Anet, if your reading… Please stop stretching Human modeled armour and throwing it on the charr. While it may look passable on a few, overall it looks horribly done.
Extra time needs to be put in by chopping/placing the armour correctly on the Charr. I really hope we don’t end up like Taurens in WoW(with their helms). I could ignore some off the ugly clipping(it’s a MMO after all), but the stretched armour and floating shoulder pads are pathetic.
A good example is how the Mad King armor looks on a Charr. The head is massive and just looks ugly. The boots look like clown shoes…If you can’t go back and fix your current work, at least make future armour more tailored to a Charr
Also, fix the main hand bug. Make Charrs walk straighter and less to the right, if that’s the issue.

We need a give Charr knees campaign every thing is a trench coat or a skirt the thought of human thieves getting to go round looking like cat woman while my kitty looks like inspector Clouseau drves me batty.
Kitty armor needs a revamp even this would be an improvment on the selection of sleeping bags we have to chose from at the moment.

I have a huge issue with all of the Charr headgear. Looks horrible.
My assumption is, with the horns, it is just too big of a pain in the butt to design something that would work for everyone, so they just went the easy route.
I would like something that at least looked good enough for me wanting to earn it via karma or gold. What my char has as options is just plain horrible.
Please make something better or at the very least make the headgear more detailed and not so boring.
A skull head like the predator helmet or a devil helmet. Something….anything better than we have now.
Honestly…I still think the best looking heavy armor is the beginning mail set w/ leggings. I never wear a helmet or pauldrons on any toon, preferring a sleeker armor look.
Actually, I just hate “giant” pauldrons with a passion…but that aside, I’ve kept that early mail though several levels.

I agree to an extent, although I like my full plate armour now i’ve assembled the bits so far.
Helms are dreadful, the only ones I like are t2 (here) and t3. The rest, pretty much, just don’t work.
I can’t really remember what my armour used to look like but this also has a nice tail flap, so less clipping there
A lot of armour is quite bulky as well, which doesn’t really help as we’re already a bulky race!
@cargan one of the sets on the TP has legs (if you can make out in my picture) with some nice decoration too. I know what you mean about skirts!
(apologies for the picture spam!)
T3 Charr heavy armor is best armor
T2 chest, gauntlets and pants called. Your statement is incorrect.
Anyways, hunting for light armour is even more painful than it is for heavy armour.
As for heavy armour, I was always looking forward to something like pic related, just look at that awesome helm!
(edited by Surbrus.6942)
My biggest issue with the Charr is indeed, the clipping weapons, and difficulty in viewing item previews.
Almost every smaller single handed weapon is hidden under a Charr player’s chestpeice, I find myself previewing gear on my Sylvari or Human characters, just to see what things like Pistols, daggers and shields actually look like.
As for Cultural armor – I’ve so far only bought Heavy T1 for my Charr Warrior, and I love it. Heavy armor in general looks great imo, but T2 Heavy looks like it was made specifically for Guardians. (Charr guardians never made much sense to me, personally.)
I fell in love with T3 light the moment I saw it on Character creation preview. T1 isn’t bad looking either, def. picking it up for my Mesmer.
I’m a little disappointed with Charr Medium armor sets though, personally. They all seem to fit Ranger or Thief professions much more than any Engineer.
For the toast!
I like the cultural armour the only problem with it is that it clips through alot of things
In my opinion the Charr heavy heritage set looks pretty good. But yeah i agree most other armor does look kinda bad. Especially the helmets. The only head piece i actually kind of liked on my Charr was the Ice Lords Diadem.
Yea there is more bad looking armors than good ones, but you are not in those bad looking armors forever and you can make pretty cool armor by combining different sets.I knew which armor i wanted since i started playing and i got it,and i might say its one of the best looking armor for chars out there. It’s charr cultural set tier 3,in my case heavy armor.
As a charr, this is indeed a real problem in a game where aesthetics is so import.
Sadly, I don’t see any dev or moderator actually bothering to read this.
My biggest issue is with my tail. Most of them just feels weird. Therefore, I’m forced to used AC heavy armor for my leggings. It actually seems to hace a hole for my tail and it swings accordinly.
Helmet is just a nightmare. There are no good helmets.

Most cultrual armour was designed for being worn on Charr, and therefore accounts for the tail. The only Charr cultural armour that looks like it was designed for a human and then stretched to fit a Charr is the T3 light armour… which is an incredibly big shame that the T3 of all tiers doesn’t account for Charr physiology for light armour.
Note: I am unfamiliar with Charr medium cultural armour, so perhaps there are some bad armours not made for the Charr model in there as well.
As for helmets… yeah they are all terrible. I’ve already posted an example of an awesome Charr helmet earlier in this thread. Sadly it appears that awesome Charr helms only exist in the world of concept art.
Agreed. I figured that Anet would have really outdone themselves in this area, due to the Charr being a much anticipated race to play as.

I previewed the medium armor the other day, it all seems Charr-fitting, and IMO all looks quite nice as well (minus maybe the hoodie on the T2, don’t much care for that). I grabbed the T1 armor for my Engineer and I am without a doubt getting the T3 on my Ranger once I get a crapton of money. The T3 medium armor is one of my favorite armors in the game TBH, and I especially like it because it actually looks like armor and not just clothing like much of the medium armor.
Just don’t mix and match the T3 medium with anything else. The T1 and T2 armors have their “tail pieces” on the chest piece (which is actually nice because it means you can pretty much ignore the leggings altogether and save money, the chest piece covers 80% of the pants anyway). The T3 tail piece is attached to the leggings though, so if you were to mix the two ( a T1 chest and T3 leggings) you’d probably get a double-tail covering and it would probably look crappy in general.
Though, the T3 also has the “skirt part” on the leggings where most medium armor has it on the chest piece, so for all the people who hate the longcoat / skirt look of medium armor, you could mix the T3 chestpiece with a normal set of pants and end up skirt-free. You wouldn’t get the tail slot / covering though.
This one isn’t half bad, and it only costs you 2silver and 2transmutation stones (or whatever they’re called) to make your new char ele look half-decent.
I’ve been looking for a good look for my Ranger, and I think I’ve found it, but I need help on 1 part.

It’s looking good, but I can’t figure out what to use as the shoulderpads. I’ve looked at the 3 cultural versions, and I find that #1 meshes with the entire look, #2 seems to mess with the color scheme, and #3 is just too bulky. Anybody have any ideas on what to use for the shoulderpads?
PvE Main – Zar Poisonclaw – Daredevil
WvW Main – Ghost Mistcaller – Herald
[medium cultural,
mix and match]
I just recently made a Charr Thief alt and looked into the medium cultural armour myself. I am a very big fan of mix-and-match for armour skins, no matter which character I am getting the armour for (Mesmer is a mix of T1/2/3 cultrual, Guardian is mix of T2/WvW/random-lower-level-shoulders-that-look-nice, Norn and Human characters will be a mix of cultural/dungeon/etc when/if I get around to it).
Anyways, that T3 medium Charr cultural armour does look very nice. I am not necessarily a fan of the big bones/spikes on the rest of the T3 medium, but that chest piece is nice. Also yes, some of it has to do with that chest piece not being simply another jacket. I’ll probably mix the T3 medium chest with a couple T1&2 medium pieces and then search far and wide for a couple other pieces that look decent. Maybe even hide the shoulders since surprisingly there doesn’t happen to be more minimalist medium shoulders (not a fan of big shoulder pads, and the T3 medium on a Thief needs slender shoulders to finish that “sleek” look).
I do very much hope that we see more armour skins, or even existing but revised-for-Charr armourskins in future updates. I am still very pleased with the Arah medium Charr fix Anet sneaked into the game a month or so ago, even though I don’t even intend to use that armour skin.. it is nice to see that they do actually care about the burdens we Charr share (and they can do a very nice job at their fixes).
Not so much the armor for me, it’s the combination most the non racial armor luster is taken away since all charrs apparently have hernia now. What I would give for old flame shaman upright charr. Heck even the original charr model looks better then that it became.. what happened? I don’t want bed sheets for armor.
Charr racial medium and light should be pretty revealing and barebones. Armbands, loincloths, and all the GW1 charr stuff.
The worst would be the armageddon helm from Orr. The helmet is open for the Charr but closed for the other characters. It looks horrible.
Heres another post about it and you can see the comparison:

I’m going to use the Deathly Avian Shoulderpads for my T3 set because yah, the normal T3 shoulders a tad too bulky for my taste. Might consider looking at any of the 3 Halloween shoulder sets, they all have the skull / bone theme that fits well enough with Ranger in general and the T3 armor. There’s a slight bit of clipping between the Avian Shoulders and the T3 gloves, but since you aren’t using those that shouldn’t be an issue.
Of course, until they add a preview option to the TP actually getting a look at them beyond screenshots could be tricky, unless you figure out the whole “paste item codes into the chat box” method.
