Advice on what to do with rares
http://jalapenopepper.shivtr.com/
I generally look at the cost of the lowest sell order for the item in question, some of them happen to be a good 40s, in that case I immediately sell them.
In other cases I normally forge them just for the fun of RNG, or salvage them if I have a BLSK handy
But since you are working towards Dawn, keep the GS’s and forge/salvage/tp the other ones
Thanks a lot for your advice! Will keep it in mind

If I read and understood this correctly is that your done with your clovers as well as another 250 ecto needed for gift of fortune and now you have 150 extra just lying around.
Wish you had asked sooner, would of told you to save the 100 ice runestones for the very last part.
The best advice in my opinion and what i would do if i were in your shoes is this:
As highhope said compare the lowest seller price of the rare to what the current selling price for ectos. If its worth more ( I like to use a margin of 5ish silver) then sell it on the tp, if its is at the same price of ecto or within in your margin then salvage it.
The reasoning behind this more often then not youll only get 1 ecto, right behind it the chance of getting none. Using only the rares that cost the same as an ecto will lower your potiential loss meanwhile giving you a benefit to double/triple your potiental gain.
Unless you get a BLSK for free stick with master salvage kits, the current gold to gem converison is horrid.
Using the meathod i just decribe I would using money gained from selling ectos to buy T6 mats as you continue to farm for them. Once you finish your gift of fortune youll be able to sell everything you gain from that point on quickly raising he needed gold for the worst part for many.
Now we come to the mystic forge part. I and alot of other players would strongly advise putting your hopes in it. There are countless videos on youtube of people putting 30-40 gold worth of items only to get a few extoics back worth 6-7 gold. This isnt to say that a throw of the dice isn’t fun/good every once in a while, just dont get sucked in by the allure.
The mystic forge has a 20% to upgrade an item to the next rarity. using items of the same type will guarentee the output item to be of the same type. If different items are used then the output will be completely random. Its best to use green items first to get a feel for the mystic forge. RNG is not to be viewed as a potiental ally.
As much as I really dont like to say it, its best to pretty much plant o have to save to buy your precursor off the tp. Take your time saving up the money and do epic world bosses every day since that bonus chest has the best chance to contain a precursor.
Last and certainly not least, Im pretty sure highhope made an easy to make mistake but since your going for twilight the precursor you need is the dusk not dawn. That would be a disastrous mistake if you end up buying it.
I have been tossing in 4 random rare weapons (As long as they are level 80) since march, and this happend 2 days ago
Salvage rare armor and jewelry. Throw any runes you get into the forge.
Sell a handful of Soldier’s Aureate rares on the trading post (such as the greatsword) as they sell for a lot more than other rares of the same type.
Throw high demand weapons (greatswords, staves, daggers, hammers, short bows) into the forge with 3 other weapons of the same type.
Throw low demand weapons (all others) into the forge with 3 other low demand weapons, making sure that at least two are different types.
At the moment this is the highest long-run EV strategy for handling your rares.

I’ve been doing something similar since August. All the rare armor and trinkets get salvaged. When I collect 4 similar rare weapon types ( Ie. 4 great swords) I put them in the forge for a shot at a precursor.
When you say “making sure that at least two are different types” do you mean different types of weapons ( great sword + sword) or do you mean different types within the same weapon type? ( 2 rabid + 2 carrion)
Just making sure I am following your advice properly. I have had some decent runs of exotic returns. It always seemed to go in a streak of 2 or 3 exotics then nothing for awhile. My sample sizes are tiny so no pattern can be deduced.

He means if you have 4 rare focus and 4 rare warhorns mix them up when you forge so you get a chance at an exotic greatsword or other more valued weapon.
As to OP, I salvage rare armor and forge rare weapons. Since I’m not going for anything in particular I always just mix whatever I have onhand or just go craft a focus for cheap to randomize the results.

Basically this. If you put 4 rare focii into the forge, you will always get out a rare or exotic focus.
If you put 3 rare focii and 1 rare warhorn in, however, you have an equal chance of getting any of the 19 different classes of weapons (sword, axe, etc) out of the forge. Since weapons like focii and warhorns are not particularly valuable compared to the other types, a totally random roll on the weapon type is preferable.
