Time gating, benifits and other misc
- You are looking at 20-40 days of crafting because of the artificial time gates if you decided to craft everything.
- Ascended armour looks bad (Subjective) SEE HERE, so you are probably going to want transmutation stones to give yourself a better look!
- Each piece of ascended armour has 1 unused defensive infusion slot (for your versatile +5 brought for 75 fractal relics) for a total of 30 AR from a full set (cheaper then getting another +30 AR from the new infusions)
- Each piece of armour has around 2-3 stat points more in each section (1% crit damage more on one of the berserker items, the rest are the same as exotic crit damage) and (using a ballpark guess) results in around a +5% improvement over exotic
- For a full set (6 pieces) you will gain +60 points in base armour over exotic (Approx. 5% difference)
- Each piece of armour currently has the standard rune slots as do exotics, so you may add what ever rune you want to your pieces/set.
- 1 bolt of damask can be created once per day (total of 25-41days) which is quite slow if you need a full set.
- Deldrimor ingots are also use a time gated ingredient, however, as they have been around a while, you can buy them for around the same price as making them ( you can choose to make 1 each day a long side the damask while waiting for them to drop, if you don’t want to spend large amounts of gold at a time.
- Thermocatalytic reagents and gossamer thread are brought cheaper from the merchant then the trading post!
- The augur stones are account bound, so you can buy them on a mix of different characters who have skillpoints to spare and put them in the bank, to withdraw them with the character you are crafting on.
- The 6 insignia’s can be created cheeper, and I recommend making the 6 that you want for your set of ascended armour while you are levelling up your profession.
- 400-500 armoursmith (and others respectively) can be done easily: 400-425 refine orichalcum/gossamer/leather for next to 0 loss. 425-440 can be done by making superior runes of the krait (armoursmith)or other assortments of runes/sigils/discoveries (Orichalcum ingot+Vile essence=sup. Krait rune, make 50-100?) 450-475 refine t7 ascended materials if you have the obsidian shards to spare, if not 450-500 can be done by discovering approximately 10-15 exotic armour pieces (assuming crafting booster)

Thanks for the breakdown on the required mats!
Its no were near as bad as i thought it would be thanks to the new smaller Vision crystals, damask is the only item holding us back.
You may want to add the Laurel and gold cost of the merchant ascended recipes for each armor piece. I think it was 5 Laurels + 5 Gold each

25 days for 1 full set? Seriously? It’s kittening ridiculous
Yes, 25 days if you create the 1 bolt of damask each day, I suggest making 1 a day and selling them for 5-10g profit for the next week or so until the price drops to around 5g each, before buying the 25 for your set as you don’t REALLY need ascended armour right now, as fractals 50 can be done without it.
Thanks vid, I didn’t realise I had left them out,
- Updated list to include initial laurel/gold/karma costs for purchasing recipes.
36 days for light!
But I agree: for now, sell damask, unless you really can’t stand to delay things by a few days.

Pre-launch, Colin listed things that make MMOs bad. They are all now in GW2.
how do I make Spool of Silk Weaving Thread for the Bolt of Damask’s?
oh, found it. nevermind.
thanks for the post, OP.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I’m afraid of the lag and the massive economy problems in gw2 plus I’m sorta busy atm so I can’t really break it down. Thanks so much for doing this! Lol I have barely enough bloodstone and empyreal. Time to farm temples big time :P
Cheers for the information. Can you provide more details on what benefits Ascended armor provides? (e.g. stat increases from Exotic, does it have a rune slot + 1 or 2 infusion slots?)
Each armour piece will have an unused defensive infusion slot, the stat increases are minimal (something like 2-3 points per piece of armour) and only really worth getting if 1. you do a lot of fractals and are looking to go past 50 when they release them or 2. have more money then sense and just want bis.
Heh, they’re just long-term (like, 1 – 2 years long) goals for me. I’m not looking to outfit my 5 characters with them immediately.
Update:
- Moved the misc to its own post, added in more information.
- I do have plans to add in the information on leatherworking and tailoring either later on this evening, or some time tomorrow.
I understand that the Ascended armor look is not appreciated by many, but I think you should remove that first point about it “looking bad” since it’s entirely subjective. While I don’t like the look of it myself, I think the artists put an incredible amount of work into them considering how much detail the armors have. Maybe just provide a link to Dulfy’s Ascended armor gallery (http://dulfy.net/2013/12/10/gw2-ascended-armor-gallery/) and let people decide for themselves.
thanks for this. was looking for a mat list and what not. and hot dang. it’s not TOO too too bad. but sitll a LOT of gold. and a LOT of laurels and skillpoitns (i know peolpe say they have too many of these, but i like to hoard XDD).
and tbh, i quit enjoy the look of the ascended armor, if for nothing, for how different it is to most sets in the game and it does somehow, ooze of ascended-ness, if you will. and i may even keep mine as it lol just to be “different” and see howmany people tell me i’m ugly XDDD

and defs won’t be slotting infususions in them. :// i guess it’s a “smart” move. to prevent further “power creeping”. and really only essential if you want to do fractals? though is till don’t understand entirely how that works. won’t all infusions be either +4 or +5 normal stats?

Hang on a second.. i thought Berserker Ascended had the same + Crit Damage as exotics with the Ascended Berserker Shoulders being the only piece of armor with an additional +1 Crit damage vs exotic Berserker Shoulders
If they all get 1 Crit (6Crit for all 6 Berserker armor piece’s ) then Berserker is now crazy overpowered.
+1 Crit is worth about 7 to 14 points
Please look into this.

My app printed the minimum cost recipe tree for the Beigarth’s Doublet Light coat armor using the official api as input. Costs about 34g+ to make that one piece currently.
Just check the attached image…

Update:
- Rephrased certain sections and updated a few bits of misleading and wrong information from my end.
Thanks for compiling this, Natsu. It helps my planning considerably.

No problem, I’m glad you are finding it useful,
Just a thought, would you guys like me to expand the list to include the components to the other crafting bits like the deldrimor ingots and damask?
Might be useful, yeah. Some of us have small stockpiles of T2-T4 mats and knowing how much more we need to accumulate could be handy.
just a bit of a problem with the formatting because I don’t know how to put a dot point indented further then the previous dot point
Maybe put it as a dot point with ‘—-’ after it for more indents?
All Berserker Ascended armor has the SAME crit damage as exotic.. i just checked in game!
Ill get to work making a nice picture with all the bits and pieces on there
Are you sure you only need 15 bricks, stars and ingots for full set? Somehow I missed this and though it will be like with weapons, 5 per piece.
Yep its 15 of each
5 lesser vision crystals, each need 2
1 normal vision crystal that needs 5
Thats pretty nice, I am only few fragments from full set, thank you for confirmation
I have crafted my Armoursmith up to 440 with Ori / Runes of the Krait. However I can’t figure out how to get from 440 to 450 so I can purchase the spools of silk weaving, which would lead to making the t7 materials to get to 500.
Isle of Janthir
You could discover 2-3 exotics to get up to 450
At 450, refining t7 ascended mats will get the next 25 levels assuming you have enough materials to refine, other then that, just keep discovering exotics, and I do believe discovering runes and sigils also count.
Nice work Natsu.
Under benefits section, you could add the increase in base armor on the ascended which was around 5% more than exotic last I checked (similar to the base dps increase on the weapons).
Update:
- I have added in the sections for the medium and light armour, however I am assuming a lot, as I don’t currently have any of them unlocked and am un-aware of the actual requirements (I am assuming leather/damask in equal amounts to the deldrimor for heavy)(I am also assuming insignias, vision crystals and the recipes are equal across all 3 professions), however I believe I am probably close. If you have either of these unlocked and could let me know what each item component needs, I would appreciate it!
- Edited other bits and pieces, included the +60 base armour from Rez’s suggestion in the misc.
- Updated the title

Also, Mods, Perhaps a sticky? I think that many players may find this useful to sort out all the bits and pieces they need!
To complete your excellent job :
for light armor component parts : 18 bolts of damas and 6 elonian leather square (instead of 23 bolts of damas)
And medium should be 18 elonian and 6 damask. I’m pretty sure they’re all the same as exotics, but with ascended mats instead of t6. That is, I’m pretty sure it’s:
Heavy: 16 deldrimor, 7 damask
Medium: 18 elonian, 6 damask
Light: 18 damask, 6 elonian

Yowch, 240 gold for such a minor increase? (Ascended Berserker Greatsword has 188 power while Exotic Berseker Greatsword has 179, so 9 additional power.)

You forgot base damage as well as infusion slots. But I agree, the damage increase is not that big, but when taking into account all the ascended items, full ascended get easily an increase of 10% more than only exotic.
Just a thought, would you guys like me to expand the list to include the components to the other crafting bits like the deldrimor ingots and damask?
Yes, please!
For those of us with active alts, it’s enormously helpful to see the whole picture when deciding how to prioritize gold and our existing stockpiles.

If I recall my math from a couple weeks back, full ascended vs. full exotic was
Zerker: ~20% increase in damage
Solder: ~14% increase in damage
Knight: (can’t remember this number) maybe, ~10% increase (I did the math but don’t recall it right now).
I think those values will be slightly less (maybe 0.5-1% less) because I did forget to include the sigil on kill stats.
I also tried to guess at the DR increase, because back when they were leaked we had the stat values but not the armor values. I think I guessed a 10% increase in armor from exotic to ascended (I haven’t checked to see if this is actually right), but it was only a 1-2% DR (for a knight heavy character) increase.
But, basically, if you don’t care about fractals you can pretty safely ignore ascended armor. [Does the extra 60 armor and 30 vit or toughness really seem worth it for the ~250g?] Unless you already have the mats saved up (and don’t want to bother with selling them) don’t worry about it and get them on your own time.
Wow, the ascended stuff is even more stupid than I thought before the patch. 25 days time-gating … god job, ANet!
However, one correction:
- Each piece of armour has around 2-3 stat points more in each section (1% crit damage more on one of the berserker items, the rest are the same as exotic crit damage) and (using a ballpark guess) results in around a +5% damage increase, similar to weapons.
The armor will be far away from the 5% increase weapons yielded. Haven’t calculated it thoroughly, but if we assume that each piece has 5% more stats than an exotic one, it will end up at something like 1% damage increase in total. Armor lacks weapon strength, which makes the weapons so powerful, so only the stats count. And I suppose that the increase will be only something like 1% plusminus a bit compared to your total stats (don’t forget boons (might etc.), the 916 base stats, trait stuff and trinkets which aren’t affected). If someone wants to calculate that crap in detail, you’re welcome – I’m both too lazy and too tipsy.
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
Critical damage is the same both on exotic that ascended? Seriously?
Update:
- Updated a few bits and pieces from the misc section.
- Updated the crafting components in the light/medium armour sets.
- Added in a smaller material breakdown for the time gated crafted materials, and also the ascended refinement that comes from them. I left out the exotic insignia’s as I assume everyone has a pretty good idea what they require anyway.
Not sure what Anet is doing with this +Crit damage on zerka armor! would of been nice to get “something extra” … i guess they wanted to nerf berserker armor.

So for light armor we need 3600 bolts of silk – holy crap thats ridiculous.
Miranda Zero – Ele / Twitch Zero – Mes / Chargrin Soulboom – Engi
Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro
Bolts of silk are pretty cheap though.
Update:
- Added links to dulfy’s Ascended Armour Guide
- Updated some of the component parts for tailor/leatherworker
