Crafting is way too easy at lower levels
Um. No.
If you want to fight for nodes go play wow. Not fighting for ore is one of the nice things Anet put in their game.
Perhaps play more of the game so you can see more of the content and not worry about whether or not its too easy to make money at level 20.
No point in making low lvl equip hard to get. You outlevel it too quickly.
And, honestly, the low level gear is nearly worthless. The level cap for the stats is just too high.
It’s not just out-leveling, there’s a very good chance that you’ll already have something better before you ever even reach the required level to equip it.
IMO, we need a 3-5 level reduction on just about everything. I stopped having full sets of gear ready for each 5 level cap because I was only equipping 2-3 of them by the time I got there, and would replace those quickly enough anyway.
As an example:
For example, the Chain Coat you can craft at 15 has 52 armor.
A level 14 piece of scale armor is 56 armor.
WORN chain coats at level 16 are 54 armor.
So, really, it just isn’t worth it. You’re at best going to get a minor upgrade, which you’ll replace quickly enough anyway. At worst, you’ll already have something better.
I’m not saying crafted gear has to be WAY better. But if it’s going to be strict 5 level tiers, it should really be better than most stuff that doesn’t require the tier +3-4. 1 level just isn’t worth it.
erm… isnt’t that exactly how it’s supposed to work? Yea you craft a bunch of worthless stuff, but in effect you’re making it easier for lower levels to have access to decent (blue) armor, which entices them to play longer. =/ And besides, that’s low level stuff. Wait till you get to mithril/ori level. There are hundreds of material sink for those items, hence those items will always be in high demand. (Despite mithirl ore prices, they’re still used for transmuting to ori ore)
IMHO, the cost of mats is more influenced by the abundance of bots that flood the TP with obscene amounts of product. Kill the bots and gold sellers, and the price of mats will adjust accordingly.
I’ve seen loads of bots but I have never seen them mine ore, chop wood or gather from a plant node. All they seem to do is kill mobs. The reason there is so much stuff is that EVERYONE can get resources, All you need is a tool. Whereas in most other games you need a skill/craft in order to do this. and not everybody wants to do that.
The gameplay isn’t harder at 30 than it is at 20. But the prices of mats you gather at say 40-60 are higher than those you can gather at lvl 20. Low level mats are cheap because lots of people make alts and try new professions and of course, gather along the way cuz it’s easy XP. But 3rd tier ingredients aren’t always as cheap as 1st because fewer ppl are gathering them. Not to mention that this game isn’t about grinding for mats…it’s about having fun & what fun is it battling for nodes? The answer is “no fun”

Elitist and pointless.
you are also forgetting that crafting gives XP. Lots of players use crafting to get over level humps and sell the results at a loss because the product was never their goal in the first place.
As for low level items selling for 1c over vendor. That is a direct result in aNet’s choice to have players gear up for a given level quickly and the “grind” be for visual looks. While this works very good at max level, where there are a LOT of looks to go after, it falls apart at the lower end as there simply are not enough visuals to fill the loot tables. When there are only 4-5 swords, all with the same stats, being picked up by thousands and thousands of players, it is no wonder that the prices are so low.

The problem is that there’s already plenty of access to blue level gear, without crafting. Between heart vendors and the sheer volume of Fine loot drops, a non-crafter actually has more money to spend per-level than a crafter, and has the exact same level of gear.
Which will then become obsolete in another 2 hours of gameplay.
This is the exact same problem that SWTOR had: an overabundance of gear overshadowing crafting professions. Sure, it’s casual-friendly, but it also makes crafting the next thing to useless.
I don’t agree. I don’t find crafting really easy. You need more of the rare materials (tiny totem etc.) than you pick up before level 15 which makes crafting very frustrating. Well, it is for me anyway, because I really don’t want to buy anything of the TP.
Cheers.
