so i was about to invest 200g in making dusk in the mf but heard anet nerfed or accidentally decreased the drop rate of precursors in the mf. anyone know if this is true or not?

No idea but it could help explain prices and why over 500 combines in 2 days (for me) yielded nothing.

so far tossed 1300+ greatswords = 0 precursors

no, i just found dusk with a 80g investment: 50g with rares (100+ gs) and 30g with exotics (12~).
as a friend of mine stated, rares already have a small percent to find exotic, you can imagine the rate of precursors. exotics may be expensive but they worked for me, 2 times with few tries.
so my point is that they didnt nerfed it, i only had a BIG luck and you didnt. this is how this stupid system works, nerf or not nerf.

i just dropped 400 greatswords in and got nothing .. in total .. ive probably dropped 1,000 probably more and nothing. seriously making me not want to play this game anymore…. BUUUUUUUT i doubt anet cares seeing as they already have our money -_-

They nerfed everything and by that good white loot you can see it :P…. Well welcome to grind grind grind grind i hope you will get it after you throw around next 3500 GS inside in Mystic Toilete

I wonder what would happen if you threw 4 dusks into the forge… would it wrap around the item tiers and award you with a grey junk item?

You would get a random exotic, like any other 4 exotics. Was that a serious question?

This thread makes me realize just how little gold I have. I have 2 rare GS and couple of armor pieces in the bank collecting drops to eventually put in MF.
So do you guys that put exotics in just do a pure exotic (4 of them at once) or do you mix the exotics with the rares (1 exotic + 3 rares)? Just curious since I haven’t tried it yet.
EDIT: forgot to ask … which is the cheapest rare GS to create to throw in? I finally have weaponsmithing at 400

Speculation is that there is a limit to how many are in the game at any one time. When this limit is reached, they stop dropping. Hence making them “Legendary”.

You can’t mix exotics and rares in the mystic forge – either throw in 4 rares or 4 exotics.

Also, you can craft rares at Weaponsmith 375 using Mithril imbued inscriptions that you can buy recipes for at the master weaponsmith. All the tier 5 fine material buy prices are about the same on the auction house so they will all cost roughly the same to craft.

I wouldn’t be too surprised if the November 15 update that was supposed to increase the drop rate of precursors from the forge actually made it worse instead, considering other drop rate changes from that patch are broken. (Champions still not dropping loot, etc.) But there’s really no way to know, so if you’re going to use the forge, you might as well just do it.

@Winespring Brother – Thx for the advice. I figured out the MF rule about everything same rarity while in game a few minutes ago. I just dumped all the greens I had stored after 20 I got a single yellow rare so not too bad. And I am overflowing on T5 mats but not the fangs, blood, venom etc. So making those weapons will have to wait til I can collect more.
There was a patch note at some point this past month that stated there was a ‘fix’ to a recipe in the forge. It was a bit vague to decipher properly. Sorry I don’t have a link atm.
