People are wondering the best way to get a legendary, I started on my own just recently as I found how relatively simple it is.

Start here and locate your legendary weapon: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Legendary

Tips to getting a legendary:

Explore 100% if the map and WvW.

http://gw2.mmorpg-life.com/interactive-maps/

Best resource out there for mapping everything in GW 2 (save WvW)!

Transfer to servers with the best ranking to get your mapping done easier in WvW or follow the map closely for changes in sides and quickly grab the mappable things.

Guilds!

-Get a very helpful guild that will trade lodestones for ones you need.
-Guilds that do dungeons and all dungeons (including fractals) without gripe are a must.
-Guilds that help you with WvW or map completion will be good to have too.

Elemental Material farming:

Farm tier 1 to tier 3 bags in maps up to lv 50. (do it while in Queensdale for your dailies), Skitt Shiny bags contains quite a few slivers of different types. Harathi hinterlands has centaur bags (t3 in the ulgoth chain area, supply bag and supply sack) that contain onyx fragments. Dredge drop bags that have destroyer pieces of all sizes. Savnir drop corrupted types in their bags.

The bags in Harathi drop like water. Just doing the full Ulgoth meta event chain to get to the splendid chest has on average 20+ bags drop and event and even with DR active you will still get bags.

Laurels = easy (and cheap) elemental material upgrades!

10 laurels give you 10 mystic binding agents that allow you to upgrade slivers to fragments, fragments to shards, and shards to cores. These replace Elonian Wine in the forge to upgrading all manners of elemental materials.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_Binding_Agent

So do your dailies and monthlies.

Note: You only need wine for the core promotion now.

Save your Masterwork items!

There is a 20% chance to turn 4 green weapons and armor or 4 accessories into a rare when using mystic forge. This can get you ecto fairly easily. This works for karma masterwork gear as well (as long as you get a non-soul bound item in return).

Make mystic clovers using the 10 amount recipe.

10 obsidian shards + 10 ecto + 10 mystic coins + 10 crystals

You will get 10 mystic clovers or 20-50 random tier 6 basic or fine crafting materials or more of one the above four materials needed to make more clovers. The more likely result is getting T 6 fine and clovers from my testing.

This will pay for your legendary without having to buy any materials.

Tier 6 ore salvage items are awesome!

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Salvage_item

In high level areas there is an item called Valuable metal scrap and Rich Clump of ore.
Both of these drop from high level mobs such as skritt in WvW and earth Elementals in orr/WvW. They drop fairly often too. Frost Gorge Sound has a lot of foes that can drop these as well and mount maelstrom for some reason (even though its not a lv 80 map).

Taking 4 masters salvage kits to 100 of these bought in TP (1 s each atm per piece for Valuable Metal Scrap) I get 12-25 ori and 120-200 mithril ore. This plus getting ori in southsun and other 75-80 maps, I would be able to get gift of metal in no time. Platinum and Darksteel is very cheep to make as platinum ore is 11c a piece at the TP.

Salvage all wood and metal weapons 68-80 for elder and ancient wood and mithril and ori. Also, metal armor levels 68-80 for ori and mithril

55-67 for platinum and mithril, and 45-54 for iron and platinum. Please clarify for me on these level ranges!

Dungeons!

A certain gift for your legendary is gotten for 500 dungeon tokens! That’s approximately 9 runs for a legendary (60 × 9 = 540), 18 (60 × 18= 1080) if you need 2 different dungeons (or in my case, two Incinerators). Bosses dropping 3 tokens a bag might reduce the number of times you need to run a dungeon. They recently changed how tokens are given for repeat runs and fast clears (30 min>X<1 hr). You should be able to not hit DR as fast.

I know you’re being helpful but some things here are inefficient.
-It’s ridiculously expensive to promote anything under t5. Cores to Lodestones are perfectly fine, you just need to do the math and see if it’s cheaper
-I would never suggest wasting laurels. They’re not like mystic coins. You only get a fixed amount. Even if you want to waste laurels, it’s probably even better selling the dyes rather than wasting agents.
-You should never farm any materials, whether that be T6 or lodestones. What you should be farming is gold. If you farm a specific item, 99% of the time it’s from mobs that are spaced out. Your kill/drop rate per hour goes way down.

Notice how I mentioned in the lines how some of it can be readily bought or drops so easily that you don’t need to farm too hard…

As for farming, the skritt are in one area in WvW. They drop the scrap and heavy bags at high rates. The bags can be sold or used to get t5 – t6 mats. I suggest selling the bags.

I’d still reccomend using the laurels for this. If you are going for a legendary, its a no brainer! Legendary seekers will not be using laurels for dyes or ascended which will be gotten in other ways (guilds missions/dungeons and fractals/ enemy drops) that you’ll be already doing with your overly helpful guild.

-Skritt bags are good, but there are simply better gold/hr opportunities out there. Not to mention the mobs are highly spaced out and you are open for killing from enemies
-Again, you are wasting laurels since they are a fixed resouce. By no means should you be using your agents on upgrading t1-t4. Upgrading t5-t6, you’re still losing out, but I can understand.

But upgrading core to lodestone using wine is the smartest use of resources.

Gold can be gained at any rate. Laurels cannot.

The wine is only good on the last two tiers… as the formula for mystic binding agents was made more efficient instead of 2 to 1 for all types with wine.

With binding agents, you need 8 t1, 6 t2, 4 t3, or 2 t4 for promotion via binding. So its a trade off based on how many you can get at a time as you get 4 t 2, 3 t3, 2 t4, or 1 t5 respectfully in return with them instead 2 to 1 across the board with wine. Its more based on how many you want of each tier returned vs. just getting the end result (2 Core→ lodestone with wine).

In both cases, Its 6 t 2 to 3 t3 and 4 t 3 mats to 2 t 4 with binding then use wine for cores ( the 2 t4 returned to get 1 lodestone). This would be the route to go than spend 1 gold for 4 wines.

I’ve got everything together for my legendary short of the precursor. In reality, isn’t the guide simply: farm cof p1 zerk war/mes group $$$? That’s what I did at least short of the non-monetary pieces of the legendary and that shaved off a good 7-8 months of using the farming you outlined above. cof p1 farm with a pro group farming 4-8 hours a day will get you your legendary inside a month or two - especially if you purchase black lion salvage kits on all your token trades + rares you get.

I’ve done the math, its around 1000 to 1300 gold per legendary for the raw materials which with an ideal cof p1 group (8 minute clears including load times + setting up the path) results in about 18 days of played time to get the gold necessary for it.

What Vol is trying to say is that in the long run, you’ll wish you had those laurels for something else. The laurels are only acquired at a fixed rate of approximately 40 per month whereas gold can be farmed at any rate for the elonian wine. Using your resources for anything less thakittento t6 conversion is a waste when you can sell t1-t4 materials and just focus on core to lodestone conversions. I agree with Vol, your laurels are better used for the things you can’t normally buy with gold (or want to combine with fractal running).

For crafting legendaries efficiently, its important to allocate your resources to where they count. Its better to save laurels for ascended infusion with +20% gold upgrade because you must farm gold. Its even better use them as secondary karma for obsidian shards rather than gold. Also if your spending your ingredients to upgrade t1-t4 materials why would you spend a MBA and a crystal to make a fragment, when that MBA and crystal could be better spent making a lodestone?
