Silver Doubloons - is this for real?
These are way easier to farm than Charged Lodestones.

relatively low risk investment incase Anet introduces a doubloon promotion recipe

First, completely and utterly wrong! I’ve been farming these faster than silver doubloons since the game came out. Wanze, please add something constructive to forum posts for once. We don’t need to know what your farming or how much you’ve spent doing so, or how you do “research” and then don’t share it with the rest of us so you can keep making your money. None of it provides a valid argument of why silver doubloon prices are so high or why there are so little.
Second, this conversation has been going on here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/crafting/Silver-Doubloons-is-this-for-real/page/2#post2929107
This is bad but those who need the gold will fight for the high prices. Silver doubloons are just one of those things either overlooked or ignored by Anet and will continue to be so until more people say something against the price of them than for the price of them. Good luck and good hunting!

Well, i got more 300 doubloons out of lootbags while making profits off the high prices in the last month, so for me doubloons are easier to get than lodestones, i guess this always depends on your playing style.
I also dont see how moaning about high prices of a specific item on the forums is constructive.
You are posting here on the forums in order to de-value Silver Doubloons because you need some. Shouldnt other people be allowed to post on the forums in order to increase the value of Silver Doubloons because the want to sell them?
As long as these topics keep popping up on the forums, prices will rise because you draw the attention to speculators.
Thats fine with me because i dont need to do brainless zerg fests anymore or whatever people do these days to make a mediocre 10g/hour.
I leave that to other people who will give me their gold via the trading post.
If you find that unfair and disagree with that, dont blame me for that.
I just play the game the way I want.

So you did exactly what I said not to. Awesome.
The problem here isn’t the price it’s the supply and demand on the market. This is obviously flawed because the price of this lower level rare item is going to steadily rise. People will tire of farming them or move on to the next best thing before returning to increase the supply. Yeah, I need them but so will other people and when the price reaches 2g, 4g, 10g a pop then you will see what we are complaining about. The stuff you guys buy to profit from is steadily increasing in price also and it is becoming unfair to those who need craft in the lower level crafting.
MrO found this to be a problem not because he needed them but it was a red flag for anybody who looks at the economy of this game. Small miner’s bags are worth 11c to sell to a NPC but on the market they can easily fetch 1s or more. It’s price inflation of the worst kind and farming them is HARD when you have no money to do it. This isn’t about devaluing silver doubloons but increasing the supply for the sake of the market.
Wanze, when you fish all the fish out of the sea or buy them all up, there is no more money to be made. Farming will be all you have left.
Well, increasing the supply will devalue silver doubloons so thats what you are asking for. You are just complaining that an item that you need increases in demand and ask Anet to adjust supply to rig the market in your favour.
Its also not sellers that increase the price of an item but the buyers that pay the increased price for it and i never bought any silver doubloons.
What would you see as a decent price for them? 70 silver?
That was about their price a couple of months back when i got them for my Juggernaut and I didnt see anybody complain about the prices then.
Now they rose about 100% in price and this is too much for you to pay on the TP for them.
When i got my stack, i had no complaints about using my gold for buying them for 70 silver because i farmed the 175 gold within a few days.
Now people are willing to pay 1.3-1.5g for them but guess what?
Silver Doubloons are still available on the TP for at least half the price. Not directly but by buying and opening a bunch of lootbags or throwing pebbles into the mystic forge that you just salvaged off some trinkets that are available for 1 copper over merchant value in the thousands.
A month ago i spent over 150g within a week on lootbags and was able to sell the mats that i got beside my 89 doubloons for over 400g.
If Anet would now announce that you get 1 guaranteed silver doubloon and 3 Gold from every JP Chest, i guess you would be pretty stoked and complete 10 JPs per day, spending about an hour each. Within 9-10 days you would have the same amount of silver doubloons and profit that i got while spending an hour per day for a week and say: GG Anet.

I made a thread about this maybe a month ago. I currently have two characters ~ lvl 28 parked at puzzles. Been sitting there for months opening the chest almost every day and I’m only up to about 35. A couple days ago I nearly fell out of my chair when I opened a chest and got two of them, even took a screenshot. They are most definitely too rare, and the market police just keep flipping away.

You did not farm them at all…
The price is clearly too high in comparison to other Legendary mats.
I sold eleven of them this week because the price is finally high enough for me to feel like releasing mine into the wild.
I have 4 alts sitting at chests, trickling more in. But don’t expect me to be working to lower the price just because you can’t be bothered to do the same.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

Before this turns into a flame war between the gold farmers and worried players…
We are trying to get them. I remind myself everyday to try and get one through the various ways we have discussed here and in the previous thread. BUT some players believe silver doubloons are too high in price in general and aren’t looking to get them at all but worried about the overall affect on the market.
Some facts:
- Silver doubloons are small in number compared to other such rare items on the market
- Silver doubloons are steadily rising in price much faster than other such rare items
- The processes which help players acquire silver doubloons are steadily rising in price
- The way to farm silver doubloons is SLOW, much slower than other rare items
- Most legendary mats besides ores and logs have dropped in price slowly over the last year and show little to no signs of not continuing to drop in price
- To make a vial of quicksilver costs well over 400g which is 130g more than its nearest equivalent
- The ways to obtain silver doubloons is lower than any other legendary mat of its equivalent
- Charged lodestone prices are high because of the demand, not the supply unlike silver doubloons making charged lodestones an unreasonable argument
- Gold farmers are the only players against increasing the supply of silver doubloons because it will hurt their bottom dollar
- Players going after The Juggernaut should have as much as a fair chance as someone going after another legendary
And I could go on and on here…
As other players and gold farmers have stated in other forums and in-game, Anet has overlooked this or ignored it. Just because you have made you Juggernaut or have the money or characters to farm silver doubloons more efficiently doesn’t mean other players shouldn’t have the same chance or have to change the way they play to meet said guidelines. Good luck and good hunting!

This monster has been here for months! lol
Copper to silver upgrade has been asked for… since near the start of the game. I don’t see that happening now : / It seems they wanted it to be hard to obtain and expensive specifically for the legendary.

I’m fully expecting to see this update down the line:
1. Upgrade recipes for Copper → Silver Doubloons and Gold → Platinum Doubloons are introduced.
2. Gift of Quicksilver now requires Platinum Doubloons instead of Silver Doubloons.
You are also not providing information but a wild guess, which should always be free of charge.
That i used Light Bags of Booty, i already said in an earlier post. Good luck by the way, getting one of those from a Jetsam Pirate in Lornars Pass or a Bloody Buccaneer in Bloodtide Coast.
More like an educated guess. If I were truly guessing wildly, I’d just have said Tier 2/3 loot bags.
Also, the best place to farm Light Bags of Booty are from the pirates in Brigantine Isles in Gendarran Fields. The pirates in Lornar’s Pass tend to drop Small Bags of Booty (T3), and I wouldn’t even bother with the ones in Bloodtide Coast as they’re too high level.
The dredge in Gendarran Fields are also a good target for the Light Miner’s Bags, although the dredge in Underburg in Lornar’s Pass would be a better target if you’re after those, since they spawn in much higher density there.

OK, here is your wild guess:
He may also have possibly been buying Bags of Pinched Goods/Bags of Purloined Goods, which drop from Bandits, or Light Bags of Skritt Shinies (from Skritt, obviously) although I cannot confirm that Silver Doubloons drop from those.
Neither of those bags you mentioned drops Silver Doubloons, Pinched Goods only drop t1 mats, Purloined Goods only drop t3. LB of Skritt Shinies drop t2 mats but Silverdoubloons arent on the loot table.
The only right information that you provided is, that you cannot confirm that Silver Doubloons drop from those. I bet that helped other people out alot.
Also, if you think the best place to farm Light Bags of Booty are pirates at Brigantine Isles, go ahead. Let me know how much you get per hour.
How much profit you make overall per hour farming those? 2-3g?
Why not farm something else that yields 10g per hour, then use those 10g to buy 4 stacks of lootbags from the TP from people who dont see the real value of the mats inside them?
Nothing beats the spawn and kill rate btw of Aetherblade Pirates during an Invasion in a low level area.

If they intend this to be kept a lvl 80 feature for Legendarys aswell i suggest making it craft able out of 80 mats, or better yet make boxed that may include them available to craft in the Mystic Forge. this would make its rarity a little less elusive as well as keep the tier 2 mats for the tier 2 players and differ the 80s to their tier items to get a hold of these as well. And as a bonus, make these a little less gambling nonsense and a little more farming.
Got another one .
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”
- Jareth, King of Goblins.
Why is this a concern again?
Let me think… since I built an Infinite light for my main I have a pretty dang good idea what it takes to gather 250 charged lodestones… the people interested in making Juggernaut are feeling oppressed that they have to gather 250 of a rare item that costs less than half as much as a charged lodestone and drops from bags and jump puzzles.
Try farming Air Elementals in Orr for 2-3 months. I think you’ll find farming the appropriate bags for silver doubloons WAY more rewarding…

Well, since you were being deliberately coy about the types of bags you were opening, I had to broaden my range to stuff I wouldn’t ordinarily consider. The fact that you had a fair bit of chocolate and butter from your drops told me that I couldn’t rule out bandit and skritt loot bags, since they drop from those too, but since I didn’t have personal confirmation of Silver Doubloons dropping from those, I added the caveat for anyone using my information to try and get doubloons.
As to the second half of your post -shrug-, some people prefer farming their own mats as opposed to just buying them off the TP. (Personally, I use a combination of farming and buying to make up the shortfall.) It’s a playstyle choice, and while it may not be as efficient as farming gold and buying the mats, I’m not about to dictate to people how they should play the game. If you’re having fun doing what you do, go right ahead.
The Aetherblade Pirates in low-level areas are a good tip though. Still, as temporary content that relies on the event spawning in an appropriate map when you’re on, I wouldn’t rely on it as a reliable source for bags.
The source for Charged Lodestones has increased dramatically with the introduction of Champ loot bags though. Prices for them seem to have fallen (although not as much as one might hope since it’s likely that the lowered price means more people are going for the rare skins that need them now).

while I play my level 80 and not even try to farm charged lodestones I often find myself getting them alot. If it’s not a lodestone, you’ll get a core, which can be upgrade. while you still get easy gold you sitll have the possibilty to get that item. If you want silverdoubloons, you either have to farm your gold to buy them on tp, play the tp or level an alt and open jp chest on lvl 20-30, while rarely getting a silverdoubloon + getting 0 reward items. now…oh wait.

Thats alot of ways to get Silver Doubloons and you even missed some.
I could get myself a stack of silver doubloons with only using my lvl 80 within a month without buying them directly from the TP.
Try to get a stack of Charged Lodestones in a month without buying directly.
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
Considering I’ve gotten a quarter of a stack just from orrian jewelry boxes, I don’t see that as too difficult. A couple Fractal runs per day, some champ farming for about n hour, then doing core promotion, should result in getting pretty close over the course of a month.
@Nike: It’s been a long time since charged lodestones have been over double the price of silver doubloons. Each doubloon is about 70% of the charged lodestone price right now (and over 100% of the price for any other lodestone).

About a month. Karma flows quite easily when you make sure to do dailies and monthlies as well as use the liquid karma in the boxes. Champ farming usually has you hit multiple events (more karma) and has decent chances at lodestones/cores (so direct). WvW is known for the “karma train” and I typically turn out a lodestone or two (not necessarily Charged) from Fractals (which has, guess what? Karma rewards too!)
Add in the occasional one when I salvage aether scraps for mithril/orichalcum (which drop from the champ farm that is most lucrative, albeit unpredictable). Yeah, I can see someone really going for it to farm a stack of lodestones within a month without buying any off the TP.

So can you think of any reason why everybody is complaining about Silver Doubloons and not Charged Lodestones right now, if both are farmable at the same pace?
In the end, you just need to farm like 200 Charged Lodestones in order to get a full stack of Doubloons….
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
Because charged lodestones are waaaaay easier to farm than silver doubloons. That’s why.
The real reason people are complaining? Buy a stack of silver doubloons off the trading post. Just one problem: you can’t. There aren’t 250 of them even available. The ONLY thing that silver doubloons really get used for is The Juggernaut. Yet their price is the second highest of any crafting material (non-Ascended). The price isn’t high because of demand. The price is high because the supply is ridiculously tiny.
TLDR: the price is a symptom of the problem, which is a ridiculously tiny supply.

There are 1897 silver doubloons available on the tp right now and thousands get traded every day, so supply has actually increased compared to start of semptember, when its price started rising. The price wouldnt rise, if people wouldnt pay the current price for them.
A silver Doubloon also isnt a crafting material but an upgrade component, it doesnt even go into your collectible tab.
There are plenty of non ascended crafting materials (gift of Spiders, Inscriptions, Insignias) and upgrade components (exquisite Jewels) that are more expensive than them.
Bloin – Running around, tagging Keeps, getting whack on Scoobie Snacks.
Yeah, Wanze makes a good point above. It’s not a good idea to look at the currently available supply on the TP and think, “Oh, that’s all the supply available in the game.” A lot of trading on the TP actually goes straight to buy and sell orders, and thus are invisible to people watching the supply/demand casually.
