That was a month ago. In terms of a game that is on the market for about 5 months, that’s like a decade.

Right, a month ago, we knew it wasn’t on track for the Jan / Feb / March patches.
So…. why do we expect continual updates saying ’It’s still not happening in Jan / Feb / March…’
And in the lifespan of an MMO, a month is a short time compared to the total life cycle of the game’s live support and content updates.

Because we’re used to developers in other games going quiet and then when April arrives saying, “Oh that? We haven’t even started on that.”.
Seriously, just save your gold and buy one. It really isn’t that hard. I just farmed 60 gold in a week. It’s an MMO. Take your time and if you want it then work for it and stop complaining. You can farm 500 gold in Orr in 2 months with ease.
I would like to make Eternity, and I don’t have any mats or Dusk yet you don’t see me on here complaining about it. It comes with time. You guys are making this legendary thing like a job. Who cares? Really.

As stated before, this thread is not intended to give a platform to discuss the precursor situation. We have plenty of other threads for that.
I’ve not seen a statement where it’s been said that scavanger hunt and/or other methods aren’t on track for Feb/March patches.
[NO] ~ Ponys Will Never Die
There’s currently no problem with Precursors, since you get them for free from the Mystic Forge. There’s no need to buy them from the Trading Post.
Hey guys,
Just a quick update on where the whole scavenger hunt system stands since I know that’s a topic many of you have brought up recently. We’re not currently actively working on building any sort of legendary precursor scavenger hunt, this is something we want to do in the future and we’re in the midst of designing how this would function, but no one is actively building this feature and you should not expect in the Jan/Feb/March releases at this point. …

Ye, in 2 months someone will have 500 gold, but by then – precursors will be 2000 gold… Prices are going high every day…

Do not agree with you but I like your signature
Official statement appreciated. This issue has to be addressed.
I sincerely hope you have better luck than the rest of us ;-)

False. The only precursors that have gone up in price the past month are those that got updated. Everything else has been relatively stable.
Make Lengendaries easier to obtain, and you can replace all those “Precursors are too difficult to obtain” threads with and equal number of “Precursors are too easy to obtain” threads. If you guys really everyone and their dog to have one (hyperbole…calm down), then let’s change them from Legendary to Ubiquitous and just have players select the one they want during character creation.

…why do people keep spewing this utter and complete bullkitten?
Please tell me: If you get the precursor as a lucky drop from the MF, does that suddenly mean that you have a legendary? Or do you still need three more gifts?

Actually what you’re saying is false. Unless Bolt has gotten some update I’m not aware of, it’s precursor Zap went up from costing 290ish gold (been a stable price for a long time) to 430ish gold just a few days ago. And the thing is there were about 13 available Zaps on the market before the price went up —> then most of them were bought out within hours --> then they were put back up again within a day of each other at a higher price
If that’s not the market being manipulated by one or a few people, at least those random people buying and selling precursors sure are coordinating well with each other.
Please don’t speak in my name.
There won’t be another price spike for any cosmetically unchanged precursor.
If the high end loot table will change – expect a rise.
If we get a 100% method to acquire a precursor – expect high end mats prices to rise.
Feel free to quote me later, this will hold true.
There is logic behind price price fluctuation.
So what’s the logic behind the roughly 150g increase in price for Zap? Did it get a visual update or did the prices for mats change? And how come, if this increase is due to price fluctuation, the price and amount of available Zap have been stable before and after the price-increase?
What you’re saying is probably true for most cases, I just dont see how it’s true for this particular incident.

The other gifts aren’t that hard so this holds little weight IMO. Anet needs to tread carefully dealing with this. They make them a hand out and all the people who got one prior will feel cheated, if it stays as it is people will continue to rage quit. I think everyone needs to remember that it is MEANT to be exclusive, just because you throw some swords in the forge doesn’t mean you are entitled.

Zap is “merely” 419g atm.
It stands nearly at same level as the 2h weapons rarity, yet still cheaper than them.
It is a reasonable price to pay considering how much its brothers cost and how popular bolt is.

Regarding your “hand out” comment, my problem with this is that the wrong people have already got the legendaries. They are demeaned. Okay, now that might seem a little inflammatory, but frankly, it’s the truth. Get over it.
just because you throw some swords in the forge doesn’t mean you are entitled.
Exactly! Why should you be able to acquire something by flushing all that you’ve achieved down the Mystic Toilet when others are incidentally deigned worthy (“entitled”, as you put it) by the RNG? But enough about the randomness! Onward, to the positive conclusion!
I’m going over old ground now, but here it is anyway:
Legendaries should have been tied to the Achievement system (even if it means “grinding” of a sorts), not market speculation and grinding for gold. Fix this, and you can stick a fork in it!
(edited by Svarty.8019)
Nothing is going to change anytime soon. Casuals don’t care as they’d never attempt a legendary, Anet doesn’t care because it has your money, and legendary holders don’t care since they bought/exploited their precursor already. The only ones that care are the small population that didn’t rush to the game’s end to take advantage of low prices and no DR. So suck it up.
No one is going to do anything about it anytime soon.
They just bought themselves time by the karka event, so there are some who have legendarys, as a consequence less players complain about it. Now they can ignore everyone else.
Maybe this is really the truth.
But in the upcoming updates there is also a event mentioned. Maybe they will try to monitor the market by doing another of those events and bringing other updates to have a better control of the market.
A post of one of the officials would be nice to have. They should do a thread where they just post in specific what they will do in the near future.

Well yea, I never claimed otherwise. And it was not ever something I discussed.
Just saying, there was a huge price spike on the precursor for visually unchanged Bolt, and it happened at a suspiciously fast pace in a fairly “stagnant” market. Maybe 7-10 people managed to save up enough to buy out the TP’s supply of Zaps in one evening, but my bet would be on one or two manipulators. Kudos to them anyway.

Also, if you don’t use it: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/devtracker
The Devs are very communicative about what they’re looking at, what they know will change, and what they can’t confirm because it’s not built yet.
I know people want statements like: “We are building X mechanic to address precursors and will deliver it in a patch on Y date.” But let’s be honest, that statement is not going to happen in the near future.
They have already said a scavanger hunt is not coming in the Feb or March patches. They are designing a system for it. They are not building a system for it yet.
That means a system is being developed, planned, and analyzed, but no one is actually writing code to implement that system yet. It’s in good hands, Lindsay works insanely hard for the community, and she knows we care about this issue, she wants to get it right. This is a good thing!
Please, stop the clammor for ‘official coments’ and read the coments that the devs have made. When things change, believe me, the devs will speak up…. these aren’t quiet people!

A rising price of precursors should be no surprise after the last update. Frostfang and Bolt share something in common: They require lodestones. Lodestones just got easier to acquire (via Lost Orrian Jewelry Boxes.) Obsidian Shards became easier to acquire in the same update. The legendary became more accessable while the precursor did not. Is there any surprise that prices rose?
Wade through the posts in the BLTC subforum, John Smith has actually posted the number of a few specific precursors bought and sold daily recently in threads about precursor market manipulation…. There are several threads there about Lodestones as a barrier more than the Precursor…. please…. the info is out there, I promise!
The prices right after the karka event plummeted. At one point you could get the lover for well under 100g, it’s now over 500g. The updated effects to the legendary did far less to the price than the change in rarity. They are really back to being a 1 in a million chance it feels like, it’s not like the actual volume of them are increasing in the TP, only the prices. Although at one point the lover was over 730g
what will kitten u off more is i bet most of the precursors on sale are all owned by the same person / company, and its them controling the price.
Anet cant stop person A with a lot of gold snatching all the precursors at buy order.
Anet cant stop that person A reposted precursor at sell price much higher.
This is whats happening right now.. Person A has all the precursors, and Person A is also buying all the precursors to control the market.
Anet should do something about person A, but wont because each time Person A buys a precrusor at buy, the seller pays 50-60g, and each time he sells a precursor he pays the TP fee’s 60-70g, so a max assumed 130g is burned each time someone flips a precursor.
The prices for The Lover have been going down. I highly doubt that person A is dropping the prices. Many of them are well over 500g with 11 available right now that’s 5,500g. Now i don’t know what the gold cap is but i assume it’s 9999.99.99, that’s an awful lot of g for one person to control ALL the precursor prices. Not saying it isn’t possible, it’s just extremely unlikely.

John Smith has debunked this kind of statement, also here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/bltc/Pile-of-Crystalline-Dust/first#post1382211 demonstrates that the number of precursors traded and the amount that cycle is greater than most observers track.
So what’s the logic behind the roughly 150g increase in price for Zap? Did it get a visual update or did the prices for mats change? And how come, if this increase is due to price fluctuation, the price and amount of available Zap have been stable before and after the price-increase?

What I actually meant to say is that someone worked out that Zap’s true market value is more than what it was listed.
And he was “right” to conclude so.
Manipulated? yes, to some extent, but I would have to agree that due to the points I stated the current value sounds more than reasonable.
If Zap cost 200g (or any other highly popular precursor), we’d have no precursors left on the market. It really feels only natural for people to sell / relist them for higher price considering the legendaries popularity.

They are different accounts.
But how is john smith to know they are NOT owned by the same people.
And these people wont say that they own multi accounts incase one gets ban’d.
If john can confirm they are not from the same IP.
I’ll buy it. Otherwise its a same person / company sitting in front of the same PC flipping though accounts.
And even then its possible to have 2 IP’s in the same house.
I have it… One is my business DSL line which is setup for VPN, and the other is the recreational cable line which i use for general play stuff.

If you feel the gamble is too much you could simply buy it. Supply and demand dictate prices, if Dawn was 200g do you think it would last long? The point when you are not willing to pay the price for a precursor on TP is the point where you should start using the forge. I’m not saying anyone is “entitled” to have a pre, there are simply those who got one and those who didn’t. If you don’t like the group you are in, do something about it. Not everyone who has precursors are exploiters, many worked their kitten off to buy their weapon of choice.

I think that people are investing their time on the forum as part of the democratic process to influence Arenanet to change the game-mechanics. I understand that some people aren’t aware of it in this context, but this is the, “doing something about it”, that you refer to.

I just stepped by to clarify some things. I can afford a precursor, but I’m not willing to pay that huge amount of gold for one item. Why? Because it just doesn’t feel right. We are supposed to get a legendary item. Legendary. Le-gen-da-ry. What’s legendary about gambling or buying one of the ingredients in the trading post? Nothing.
Another thing is the chance to get a precursor. Yes, I think it’s to low. Why? The reason’s pretty easy: IF we are supposed to gamble for one of the main ingredients of a legendary weapon (which, as you can read above, is stupid and not legendary at all), the chance should be higher. It’s just frustrating to actually play the game, play all faccetts of the game, and then to dump everything you have into the mystic toilet. It’s frustrating, nothing else, so I won’t do that.
There should be a scavanger hunt or a quest chain or something that grants the legendary precursor to you. A “precursor”, as the name states, should be some kind of the beginning of the path you have to walk in order to achieve something legendary. It shouldn’t be the main blocking factor. Of course, you can buy all those mats of the TP, but that’s something different. Those are standard materials used for many things and they can stay as they are.
The precursors are the main problem, and we, the community, deserve a different way to get them. Of course, I may not be speaking for every player in the game, but I think that many ppl think the same. Many of those don’t actively use the forums, that’s why I created this thread.

I really want to ask a question here: 90% of a legendary is purchased…. the only parts of a legendary that are not purchased are the Gift of Exploration (map completion), Gift of Battle (WvW) and the Gift of [insert dungeon here.]
Why is it so unnaceptable that this part of the legendary is purchased, the same as the Gift of Fortune or Gift of Wood or…. what ever other gift you need to purchase mats for?
Why does the precursor need to be so different than so many other parts of the legendary?
I would be perfectly fine if the precursor was collectable by doing WvW, dungeons, map completion or what ever. Right now you can only get it by gambling or using the trading post. I won’t talk about the luck to get a precursor from one of the chests or mobs in the game, as this chance is like 0,00000000000001% or something.

No no no, you can get it from the forge, right now, for free! That’s why I’m almost 200g poorer than when I started this process.

Ye, in 2 months someone will have 500 gold, but by then – precursors will be 2000 gold… Prices are going high every day…
False. The only precursors that have gone up in price the past month are those that got updated. Everything else has been relatively stable.
False. I’ve been keeping track on Tooth of Frostfang’s price (Frostfang recieved no update) and it has risen in price by 100 gold in the last 2 weeks.

Nice try. Going back down no?
Go back 2 weeks, it’s gone up since the update and slowly going down over the last few days.
There is nothing wrong with the precursor rate. Go work for your items.
I think this guy got his first legendary in Dec. Lmao. Early adopters are so funny.
No, I got my first legendary in November, another in December and another last month.
So your notion that I have legendaries simply because I got them early on won’t work here. I worked hard for all of mine, whether it was Bifrost at 140g or Sunrise at 400g, whether it was when prices were down or whether prices were up.
As far as I’m concerned, those who complain about precursors are people who want stuff handed to them and refuse to commit the time to get one. It also includes people who decide to gamble and then complain when things don’t go their way.

Must be nice to have enough time to put into getting 3. You’re absolutely in the lower minority, by luck or by playing the TP, farming your face off or spending real world cash on gold. 90% of the people i know simply don’t have that kind of money or time. I’m fine with all the other things involved with them, but getting a precursor is far more about luck or being rich than it is about working for anything. Say what you want, no one looking for hand-outs, as a matter of fact most of us would rather see more legendary things involved with getting them than just money or RNG.
I’m not saying anyone is “entitled” to have a pre, there are simply those who got one and those who didn’t. If you don’t like the group you are in, do something about it.
I think that people are investing their time on the forum as part of the democratic process to influence Arenanet to change the game-mechanics. I understand that some people aren’t aware of it in this context, but this is the, “doing something about it”, that you refer to.
So, because you think the prices are too high and gambling the forge is too low a chance, it should be changed? I understand the why but have you thought about the fact that NOT EVERYONE WAS SUPPOSED TO GET ONE. It seems to me that many people are under the impression I am wrong in this.
