Why punish crafters ?
“There must be Gold sinks”, is the oft-stated justification for this sort of thing. I think it’s lies, though.
Other MMOs don’t even allow changing crafting professions unleass you are willing to lose all your progress… People today just want to have everything, no work eh?

I am grateful you an switch.. In all other mmorrpgs you can’t change you need to drop it completely loosing all progress.
Honestly, I hate to advocate for using alts but 2 crafting professions + 5 character slots lets you master everything and just relog to an alt if you need to switch to something that’s not on your current character.
Not that I don’t have a few characters with 3-4 professions maxed, but once they ding 80, I tend to leave them parked on something I don’t have covered by another character.
I think a better example is why does it cost 40 silver to change your crafting professions when you want to make something but it only cost 3 silver to respec your entire character build.
For those of you that like to throw “other games” in there, respeccing your character is very expensive in most games. Let’s just bring that over here as well as a gold sink.
Sorry, I agree with the OP. I spent the time and money to level the craft, I shouldn’t pay every time I want to use a crafting class that isn’t one of the two I have open at the time.

Thats not true. Many MMORPGS allow you to transfer for a fee without losing progress on tranfer.

If you want to completely respec your character, you’re talking about a full new set of armor + new set of runes and a cost significantly higher than the cost to retrait….

Starting a new craft is free
Starting traits require manuals, which costs gold.
Compensation for no fee craft, medium fee.
Compensation for setting traits, minor fee.
The term re-speccing can range anything between traits, equipement and skills.
The game did tell you that you can only keep 2 professions at a time, so really the one you abandoned should really be reset back to 0. Anet decided to let you keep it, for a price. Nothing wrong with that.
I like that they did that, it gives you a reason to craft with other characters instead of having one character that does everything and only using the others for combat.
Guild wars 2 is unfortunately extremely forgiving when it comes to crafting. Being ignorant of mechanics is not their fault. You can have multiple crafters with different crafting and it is extremely easy to level it as well.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
when I want to reactivate the unactive one I have to pay ridiculous 40s WHY?
I think it’s supposed to be an incentive for players to trade with each other (instead of simply everyone having every profession on every character).
Unfortunately 40s is too low for that, and the whole trading system is messed up in other ways (excessive TP fee, no CoD mail, etc.).
I’m totally impartial on this (I have 2 on every character). As for the “other” MMORPGs: I can name at least a dozen where you can level all professions/disciplines (name it whatever you want) or do not require anything, you can just go to an NPC, throw in the mats and get what you want.
I don’t know, 40s isn’t even that much..most games wouldn’t even let you do something like this to begin with.

I would love it if I could loose all my progression. Could then just re level on the same crafting that I have the mats for or that is the cheapest to lvl on.
I would propose that we loose all progression on switching, or that their be no limit to how many can be active at a time.

I have to agree, pay it or do that craft on an alt.
A 40 silver fee would have been understanable if the professions actually gave you an advantage like in World of Warcraft. If you were an enchanter you would have access to special enchants to use on your own gear only. Alchemists could do a 24H CD transmitaion.
Guildwars don’t have these perks and it makes me feel like the only reason to pick up a profession is the experience you get from it…
You could probably save a couple of gold right after launch, but not now
It actually has something like that: gifts (10g recipes from Miyani), they are account bound and you have to craft them yourself. No way to buy them from the TP.

Really? I had no idéa. I’m going to check it out next time I log in

And yet others MMO’s, reward the players for crafting with fun recipes early on. We can address the giant rainbow colored Elephant in the room; WoW for all of its pro’s and con’s, has a fun crafting system because its fun and versatile early on. Sure no one likes farming for mats, but at least when I did so, it was to boost my craft into higher levels or help myself and others in major ways.
The truth here, is that the devs messed up big time, and people exploited simple ways to level just by crafting. Its really not the fault of the players because the devs decided to not scale exp enough.
