Candidate Trials T4
The ones that follow you into the water are probably the bugged ones that have nearly infinite aggro range, are ignored by support NPCs, and persist even after the event is over. They’re outright bugged.
i havent tried post patch, is there any ele that done this soloed? if so, could you share) i would like to try it solo again to get this done : )))

T4 not required for meta achieve
It’s optional
But it is required for the new achievement chest rewards. Since you know. Achievement points are hard to come by and all.
I don’t say this much but Tier 4 is ridiculous. It’s worse than how hard that one Norn was pre nerf on Belcher’s Bluff. This needs to have something changed about it. I find it impossible to do with 1,2,3,4 and 5 person groups no matter the class makeup or skill set. I’ve been attempting it post patch for 2 days about 9+ hours everyday. And that’s all I’ve been doing in GW. This is just not fun. I’d really like to complete it for the achievement as the rewards other than that are minimal but come on. It shouldn’t go from baby mode to impossible. That concludes my only complaint this patch. As you were.
Everyone complain about stuff being too easy, then when they give us something really hard for the first time ever, people still complain lol. You can do t4 with a really good group post patch, you just need a lot of support who know what they are doing and 1 or 2 single target glass cannons, who of course, know what they are doing. It took us like 7 tries with 2 guardians, longbow ranger (glass) , support wells necro, and glamour mesmer. The thing that screws you over the most (imo) is the grenade conditions that the 500 million aertherblades throw at you, so we ran with a lot of reflects and condi removal.
My best attempt with a full group of 5 was copper on T3. Not sure how we would fare in T4.
The strategy involves:
- 2 single DPS camp at beach and only kill looters and mortars, stealth, go back around the rock, or swim out far to lose aggro.
- 2 tanks with heavy condi removals/ stunbreaks stay near gold, hold aggro and pretty much try to survive
- 1 CC specialist run back and forth to kite vets away from 2 DPS and deliver to 2 tanks.
All members should have decent CCs and focus fire on looters as much as possible.
Even then, I think it still requires extreme coordination which our group didn’t have because we were PUG and didn’t have voice chat or something.
@Otters: do u have any tips regarding my strategy? Thanks a bunch.
(edited by keenlam.4753)
Not only is it impossibly hard, it is bugged. After you fail, the enemies remain. I find it hilarious that the guy that walks with you when you start literally dies immediately. I started it and he took 20 stacks of vuln and just dropped dead instantly. Great instance.
Official response needed.
I’ve completed this achievement post patch, as I have outlined in another post on how I did it I wouldn’t repeat myself here. The problem is not that people can’t complete it however, it is that it is actually MUCH MUCH harder to do this even with a coordinated group than to do it solo. When cooperating with teammates is making life harder than doing something solo in a group dungeon, you know something is wrong.
I still don’t get why anet buys into the whole increase difficulty = moarr hp. Increase difficulty should be smarter AI and a wider variety of skill. Moarrrr hp should be scaled to half the amount of hp a 5 player scale gets at the moment. It’s just outrageous how much hp everything has.
I solod T4 for Kiel and Evon post-patch. I finished with 2000 and 2500 treasures left respectively. Of course, I failed few tries until I enhanced my build.
This is what I did on my necromancer:
Build setup:
I am full powermancer, so I do direct damage.
My utilities were, Well of Suffering (for instant maximum damage), Spectral Grasp (To pull foes), and Signet of Locust (for speed run).
Used Dagger/Warhorn and staff. So I had access to 4 CCs. 2 fears (Doom, staff #5), 1 immobilize (3# dagger), and 1 daze (4# warhorn).
Strategy:
I stand to the left side of the rock waiting for first plunderer to spawn. Pull, CC, Kill. Do this for first 5 plunderers. If you see other NPC spawn close, just run back to avoid getting aggro. After the 5th plunderer, the plunderer to the right will spawn. Now things get a little harder, you need to manage between the right side and the left side, however, remember that you can kill them on their way back, especially the right side, as you won’t make it fast enough to kill them as soon as they spawn.
Now, the main trick behind all of this is to try your best NOT to get hit by other NPC. As soon as an NPC hits you, he will follow you a bit far behind the rock, then will take his time to reset, which makes you lose treasure fast, and mess up your run. So always move as close as u could to use your pull, CC, kill, get out! By the way, you can kill the right plunderer close to the right rock, stand on top of it and wait for him to return, go down, pull, cc, kill, and move back fast (Cause sometimes pulling him will aggro).
The longer u can go without pulling aggro, the easier this gets. Good luck!

One thing I will agree on is that ANet should remove the HP scaling for more party members. They should be encouraging more players to do this as a team, NOT for people to just solo it using CC and ‘zerker gear. Have more enemies spawn during higher tiers, sure, but don’t make it harder and harder to kill the Plunderers just because there are more players around. If just one person on a team can be assigned to kill Plunderers, the rest are free to hang around the First Mate and fight the Aetherblades as was originally intended. More kills will equal more loot (plus possibly higher chances at Aetherized skins), and that alone will encourage people to play the Trials as it was intended, and not through cheesy exploitation of AI mechanics.
it’s definitely doable i want to say, albeit a LOT harder compared to pre-patch , not using the bug.
i will say though, at time sit still depends on luck. which is good and bad. cause you can get really lucky, or well. you know the other end of the spectrum. or perhaps someone who can shed some light on the experiences i’ve had myself.
so the vet spawn locations seem random to me? i’ve seen or heard how people do it without aggro-ing (at least not TOO much). i often have vets that spawn near the plunderer spawns. some at the middle flat rock. some even close to the left plunder spawn. so if i leash far enough to lose aggro , i might as well quit because the plunderers, especially if 2 or more are running, they could just walk and have all the treasure by the time i get back. :///
doesn’t help that i feel aggro range has been extended as well? sometimes i see the charr grenadier vet that will run across the entier map, heading straight at me until i run near the water between the armor repair guy and the plunder spawn points. :/// it’s scary whenever i see him come a-runnin’.
one time i had 3 vets spawn near the plunder camps.

yea, those guys.
i guess keep trying until i get a decent batch of non-bug mobs? it’s pretty ricidulous lol. or that Charr genadier that sprints across the map when i even slightly cross the lift plunderer spawn… it’s pretty scary lol. made for some frustrating times but laughs all around.

I don’t know how accurate your description of the issue is, because it totally differs from my experience. The only time I’ve seen the NPC run back that much is when they successfully landed an attack on me. Otherwise, just moving a little back will make them reset. They even run afar where the treasure is leaving me to solo the plunderers.
Engineer and Elementalist in progress…
Solo’d this after 6 hours of trying. GS+rifle warrior with full zerkers.
Got lucky really, did the same as usual but somehow the mobs didn’t cluster around the mortars.
Having done every living story achievement so far including the Aether Retreat ones I gotta say this is the most boring, frustrating and unrewarding one yet.
Get back to EB!

fair enough. but i’m not exaggerating though. which is also why i was asking if it was under certain conditions that i am being chased that far. or if there’s sth else going on. the majority of the vets i will say are near the treasure, but out of the 5 attempts i’ve tried since patch, i’ve always had at least 1 or 2 guys follow me quite far. hmm, i hadn’t noticed if i had been hit or not. so will have to test and try not getting hit at all and see if they leash easier. sometimes i would attack the plunderer on the left at spawn, and then vets near or patrolling barely past the middle would (since they spawned close and chilling around that area without running abck to the treasure) aggro and try to run me down.

I’ve tried T4 in solo, small groups, full groups, just shooting plunderers, killing every kitten thing in sight and all variations in between.
Its NOT fun. I’m getting far more achievement points for my time picking off extra daily tasks than I’d ever recoup continuing to futz with this thing.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

Ok so my friends and I soloed t4 in both achiev categories in about 30 minutes. I did it on my warrior, and my friends used mesmer thief and engi. It is doable on any class and it is easy.
You don’t need a lot of time, only thing u need is to use brain.
we did t4 two times with a 5 man party. its very painful. you need to stay in the spawnzone of the plunderers. the left one, which is farthest away. kill them if they spawn and dont aggro the mobs. you need to immediatly immobilize or stun them. if they move a little bit kill them on returning. you need pull skills for the plunderers which spawn in the nearest zone or else you will get too much aggro. if you have too many mobs aggro try to reset them.
you need to be a little bit lucky, sometimes the mobs are spawning very badly and you will get aggro of many then you can restart without any further ado.
if you get aggro of one veteran pull him (with pull skills) to the spawn zone and kill him, but focus on plunderers.

That you didnt finish it doesnt mean its too hard. Finally they added some challenge and I am fine with that. If GW2 has over 2 million sold copies and 100 people are complaining on forums thats quite ok.
When I cant finish something, I say I am not capable of doing this. When others cant finish something, they say its badly created, lol.
Always remember one thing – your opinion is your opinion not fact.
I imagine it is intentional. It requires immense amount of skill to beat, countering out the casual activities introduced this patch (namely, Southsun Survival and Aspect Arena (awesome alliteration!)) so that ‘hardcore’ players have something they can boast about. You can continue to do Tier 1 2 and 3 without restrictions, the only thing you are missing out on is an achievement, and that doesn’t matter if you aren’t skilled enough to earn it anyway, since, look at the name of it. Achievement. (I have not been able to pass Tier 4, let alone Tier 3, so I’m not being ‘elitist’).
Your name suits you.
Dunno what do you mean but I’m guessing you just wanted be an kitten.

Yes, I’ve had that happen to me before, NPC spawning close to the plunderer. What I did was leave them all and just run back. Usually they should leave you be and head to the treasure area. Then right before the plunderer arrives to the drop location, I pull, cc, and kill him.
Another thing is, attacking plunderers might aggro NPC around, this is why having a pull skill + high damage will greatly help here. The pull skill will give you more range for the other NPC to get to you, and high damage will give you the ability to retreat before being hit. It might not always work as simple as this, and sometimes it gets messy. This is why if you keep trying you might succeed.

I have done these pre patch and post patch, both solo and in groups, yeah thay are freaking diffucult but something in this game has to be way to many things are faceroll so now that we finally get something where you need some skills to actually manage an achivement that you don’t need anyway, then we get people that complain about it?
And before you say something about professions that are easier to do it on, i did it with Ranger, Thief Mesmer and necromancer, most of it on necromancer, after the Death Shroud “fix” so it’s doable, also one tier 4 we did with 4 medium and 1 light (necro in light was me) we had 1 thief 2 engy and 1 ranger, so you don’t even need heavies for it.
Just up your skills a little and you should do quite well in the Trials.
ahh, thanks for the tip regarding the pull! i drop the plunderers pretty fast so no issue with that. i’ll have to give that a shot.
now the only thing left is i sometimes have mobs that don’t leave the area, even though i’ve lost aggro. and they chill near the spawn points lol.
but like you said, just gotta keep trying. ; )) i know i’ll get it eventually. was just more making a note about how ANet seemingly didn’t just “fix” the bug mentioned before, but rather fix it so it’s even harder. /tinfoilhat

Necro is by no means a light class, despite the fact it wears that armour. It has top grade hit points.
Put an elementalist in there and you will see “light”.

the lesser people to finish it, the lesser they have their chance to obtain the limited BLC boxed weapon skin.! thus, giving it more value to just buy keys rather than searching for a spec of sand in the needle haystack.. they want it to be hard, and it is working as intended.!

Working as intended if it’s require you to solo it (while they have already said it to be ment for groups) and even while soloing only 1 build is valid. (berzeker)
Far from intended!

I agree with you OP, I can’t believe Anet intentionally released a patch that makes it harder to complete in a group than it does solo. Where is the logic in that?
Mai Trin was challenging and fun but this is… a big middle finger to the players basically.
I like it hard!
(EDIT; get your mind out of the gutter )
I only did 1&2 so far (for both Evon and Kiel) and the fact that it’s hard makes it so good for me. I will definitely try out 3&4 today, maybe I’ll succeed at that too
I play a guardian (GS/Staff) with a WvW build and Knight’s gear (rare) and I’m pretty sure that it would too easy if I had better gear.
What I don’t understand is why does it seem like it’s 3 times harder when you get company… it was a “stroll” for me the first two times I did it on my own (again, only parts 1&2), I ended up with 40+ kills both times, but when I came with a friend (who is a better player than me usually) we barely managed 30… does it matter that I had another person in our party without him actually being present at the trials? (he was in group, but not doing the trial)

scaling seems a bit broken indeed, not to mention t4. 1 veteran striker can shut down the whole party in literally seconds.
I’d also like it to go back to the way it was. At least then I’d have a chance of finishing the achievements. Or as others have said, give everyone the achievements since it now broken and exploiters got them done early (like usual).

When did achievements go from being something to strive for to something that is given (ah, the glory days…5+ years ago). The achievement is still possible. In fact, it’s still possible on most (if not all) classes. Granted most will still have to use the spawn point tactic, this doesn’t change the fact that it’s still doable.
There’s a video ‘guide’ on a thread here. 3man party.
Every one of them has a Legendary, and Ascended quality gear.
They state they wiped 4x just in the making of the video, T2.
That’s complete bullkitten.
So if someone who doesn’t have ‘Veteran’ status in the game (i.e. Time long enough to have fully decked in Ascended with LEGENDARY weapons….
This cannot be done wo the exploits.
Yes, ANet
FIX THIS.
Legendary ? what a legendary weapon has to do with this ? Please go to the wiki and read what a legendary weapon means. I did SOLO with my warrior all the trials from t1 to t4 with a rifle (and boosting rifle with traits), no consumables. Think, find a strategy and you can beat it. Just a reminder, the more players that you bring to the challenge, the more difficult will be.
Soloed evon t4 right now with a static discharge engi build.
Took me 3 or 4 trials though..
finishing with 5 people is much harder than solo… because the mobs scales with party numbers.. they have 5 times the health.. and numbers..

I totally feel the same. I must learn to use bugs/glitches too since that is the only way Anet wants us to do them. Most reasent achievements have mostly been bugged (Mai and T4 Kiel/Evon).
I just hate how Anet has dealt with all these achievements lately and refuse to fix these.

I completed post-patch tier 4 solo on a zerker engi and I can say the challenge is very rigid in the current doable method. The scaling when grouped seriously does not allow much space for error when pulling, taking down, and resetting since everyone needs to be tight on the maneuvers. I pretty much had to respec/gear specifically just to overcome the encounter’s obstacles.
As for the strategy on my engi, I used full zerk rifle gear with power buffs/food. I went 30/20/0/0/20 with notable traits being exploit weakness (cripple at 25% target hp), Rifled barrels (increased range), rifle mods (rifle dmg), sitting duck (immob cripple), speedy kits (swiftness), and power wrench (recharge on tool kit pull). My utilities were Tool kit for the magnet pull, grenade kit for the ice nades/burst belt skill, and battering ram for the tool belt ranged snare. Net shot and one snare skill for the first plunderers until 5:30 when the right side starts spawning. I used magnet whenever it’s up exclusively on the right side spawn whenever the plunderer goes or returns on his trip since his respawn cycle should have magnet pull off its cooldown by then. The middle spawn can be CCed by the rifle’s overcharged shot or whatever snare skill you can spare. Middle seems easier to handle since they have longer circuits to complete.
The main thing I thought that helped is that you can stay in the back of the rock for as much time as you can afford so that the mobs fully reset then finish the plunderers on their return trip since you should have enough dps/snare to burn them. The main priority should always be on the right side spawn since its circuit is way shorter and should be dealt with immediately, but that doesnt mean you go running to the mid trying to finish the plunderer off. The other 2 spawns usually have long enough runs that allow you to run to the back of the big rock and stay there until the middle mobs reset to a safe distance.
I’d also like it to go back to the way it was. At least then I’d have a chance of finishing the achievements. Or as others have said, give everyone the achievements since it now broken and exploiters got them done early (like usual).

There, I fixed it for you
Hi. Two manned everything from 1-4 in one go last night, on the first try. It’s really not that hard. Hell, we weren’t even specced optimally, and it was still doable on the first try.
I like it hard!

If you do like it hard then 1&2 must have been really disappointing, and 3 will disappoint you as well. It doesn’t get hard until T4.
Colin Johanson on how arenanet measures success.
(Please no gear treadmills, Colin!)
^This vid looks like it was pre-patch as the plunderers only spawned on the left side.
Oh, I didn’t notice that. I only watched bits and pieces of the video, and mainly used it to see what build he had. When I did it plunderers were spawning on the right side as well. What I did was (1) use traps to slow down the left side, (2) use Scorpion Wire to bring the right side plunderers closer, (3) Pistol Whip spam.
I occasionally had vets hang out near the lifts, but usually if I ran far enough away they would head closer to the treasure. Who knows if this still works though, as last I heard there are now bugged vets with “near infinite” aggro range in there.
