The most important take away from this election is this: 48% of your players preferred the unknown Charr over the character you’ve forced us to work for over the last few Living Stories.

Please take this opportunity to realize that we don’t really like her that much. Half of your playerbase voted for her simply because they knew who she was, not because she was liked. The other half voted against her because they couldn’t stand her character.

I’d be OK with her winning the election as long as she is permanently assigned to the Council room and is now too busy to ever be involved in the story again.

Don’t sell apathy short. Many people may not have cared either way and simply voted for someone, or both.

Apathetic voters tend to rely on name recognition (that’s why during real life elections we get bombed with ads from every angle). Ellen Kiel had name recognition simply because she has been the person we interacted with on the last two LS updates.

Basically, her 52% accounts for ALL of the apathetic voters and her supporters, while the 48% represent the largest group of players… who simply don’t like her.

She’s grating.

I hope we see very little of her from now on, If I see her smug face pop up in the future its just going to annoy the hell out me.

While the Citizen of Tyria for a Better Tomorrow Tomorrow fully support Evon we must congratulate Kiel on a well earned victory.

Who cares for Kiel, let that hag run the buisness. Now let’s talk about Abaddon, the guy we’ve been all really voting for. How high are the chances we gonna get a Living Story Chapter dedicated to him and his glory?
It’s not like we need to get more stories about the petty consortium, or some smelly pirates. A round up on Abaddon is what 48% of the community wants. Seems too much to ignore, don’t you agree?

If we all had been voting for him, kinda woulda won. Hate to burst your bubble with a little pesky reality.

1. I run fractals, and I wanted Thaumanova. It sounds more unpredictable – I think the dev team has room to be extra creative.

2. I wanted Ellen Kiel because it’s potentially more entertaining to watch a non-politician be a politician – I think Gnashblade would’ve just fit right in with the rest of them.

I placed hundreds of votes for Kiel as a very deliberate way of saying TO ARENANET that their gambling boxes are not welcome in this game. They are not welcome in any game.

I wasn’t sticking it to any fictional character. I was responding to a survey that the developers put in front of me.

and you’re the other kind of player who I absolutely despise. This competition wasn’t about RNG or not RNG, realistically the only real consequence of the vote was which fractal got made and which one got round filed.

Rubbish.

The competition – just like a real election – was about several different things, all of which have different degrees of importance to different people.

I could easily say that I despise you, because this competition wasn’t about one fractal which might be cool or might suck over another fractal which might be cool or might suck; that realistically the only consequence was whether the playerbase endorsed the practice of marketing real-money gambling to children.

I won’t, though. Although I will add that if the only real consequence of the vote was which fractal got made and which one got round filed, I’m not sure you have any grounds to complain – the fractal which is going to get made is the one that the majority of the public votes were cast for. It’s a shame that the minority that wanted to see the Fall of Abaddon will miss out, but it would be a bigger shame if the majority that wanted the Reactor fractal missed out.

The majority of people who voted for Kiel weren’t voting on her based on the fractal, the sentiment I get from Kiel supporters is “I dont care about fractals” “I don’t even run fractals” “I voted for her because I like HER better” (note voting on the candidate rather than the content) “Cheap waypoints > RNG keys!” “I voted for her because I don’t like RNG!” and worst of the worst “I voted for her because she has bewbz!”

Connecting a fractal or dungeon choice to this vote was an incomprehensibly stupid idea. Had there NOT been fractals connected to this, people would have voted mainly based on the characters (Kiel would have won by a landslide then, the ONLY reason people voted for Evon was largely because of the fractal), and there wouldn’t be so much venom in the forums over the outcome.

It has accomplished nothing but ticked off hundreds of thousands of people by teasing them with content that they will NEVER get now.

One more thing: posts here seem to say that the “hardcore” wanted Gnashblade. Since people can vote with as many tickets as they accrue, this leads me to think that this was actually something like 20% (elite players) for Gnashblade with 48% of the tickets.

I run fractals. I voted for Kiel because of the Thaumanova fractal. So did the majority of my GW2 friends, all of who run fractals with me regularly.

It has accomplished nothing but ticked off hundreds of thousands of people by teasing them with content that they will NEVER get now.

Would you be as upset if your fractal would have won?

Would you be as upset if your fractal would have won?

A lot less people would be upset. You are a rare one that really wanted the Reactor.

But yeah people would have been upset either way.

A lot less people would be upset.

I don’t know how you make this assessment. Based on the number of votes, the first thought that comes to mind that more people would have been upset it Kiel would have lost – she did get the majority of votes, after all.

But this is based on counting all votes, not the individual players.

In order for your statement to be true, fewer people would have had to vote for Kiel with many support tokens each, and more people would have had to vote for Gnashblade with fewer support tokens each.

The consensus on the forums right now, though, is that most of Kiel’s votes came from many casual gamers with few vites each, and Gnashblade’s votes mainly came from few hardcore players with many votes each.

So if anything that means that Kiel winning made more individual players happy.

So, she really won in both support token numbers and (we assume) voter numbers.

Unless you know something I don’t, in which case, please share.

if gw2 was a more captivating and lore filled game then i might actually know what Abaddon is

Abaddon has only historical relevance to GW2 but was central to the story of the GW1 “Nightfall” expansion, and I think his lore probably featured in other parts of GW1 too. He is only mentioned in a very few places in GW2’s Tyria, the most obvious place that springs to mind is the tapestry at the top of the Vizier’s Tower in Orr. If you aren’t interested in listening to dialogue or reading in-game text though (ie. if you’re not really bothered about the lore to start with) then you wouldn’t have come across Abaddon in GW2.

For context he was the human god who first made primal magic (which was later split into different parts by the other gods following much wailing and destruction) available to “mortal” races, and who was killed in a battle with the rest of the human pantheon which resulted in the Crystal Sea being turned into the Crystal Desert. He’s a pretty huge deal but for the current game, only in terms of putting things into context … or joining a few dots here and there

o0o0o0o thanks for clearing that up.. Vizier’s Tower was actually one of the very few things i enjoyed about this game between levels 1 and 80.. not noticing the bridge at first z_z then getting up there and just having some game artifacts to read..

again, i couldn’t care less who won this little in game election.. the fractals is just a series of mini dungeons and as much as i’d like to learn a bit more of tyria past, present, and future by playing GW2.. i’d still pick the thaumanova reactor

all these gnashblade whiners need to chill out.. just because you didn’t get your fractal between now and xmas doesn’t mean Abaddon storyline won’t be uncovered later.. especially if it has to do with Crystal Desert, which is a Huge Uncovered portion of gw2 map.. not to mention, that snaff killing jerk Kralkatorrik is out there..

i can’t say whether or not ArenaNet will go bankrupt with the way they run things >_> but if they don’t then you’re probably looking at all of these things in future GuildWars installments

also, if you voted for discounts.. i’m sure you’ll see that in the next few months
if you voted for the NPC’s character.. again, chill out.. like we haven’t seen an anoying gw2 character before

My point was Kiel voters felt less strongly about the fractal on average.

They should have had us vote on the content separately.

Hate to burst your bubble but with “we”, I ment the Gnashblade voters. Now educate yourself with this article. Judging by your reading comprehension skills shown so far, it will take you a while to get through, sparing us from your nonsensical post a little longer.

You don’t win friends with salad! Sorry I just got caught up in the rhythm.
