Very disheartening to see Kiel in the lead. People want to vote for “the nice, pretty human lady” and are voting for the wrong reasons. Cheaper waypoints for a few weeks are just as useless as cheaper keys nobody will buy for 4 weeks.
You need to start looking at it from the fractal standpoint. Want to vote for Kiel to see the Thumanova Reactor fractal? Why? I’ll save you the trouble: The Asura thought they were super smart, they tried to do something, and something blew up. Ok cool we got that out of the way?
Great, now please go vote for Evon so that we actually have a good permanent bonus from the victor. I don’t expect people who didn’t play GW1 to understand the important or sheer awesome that is the Fall of Abaddon. This is GODS FIGHTING EACH OTHER and not "We’re asura, we screwed up again asura shrugs as the curb your enthusiasm theme song starts playing
I just encourage people voting for Kiel to really take a look at the pros and cons of both and make the right choice. Stop RPing and saying that Evon is greedy and Ellen is noble or whatever. Ellen is stupid and has done nothing good since she was introduced in the game. She screws up more than Asuras do.
Really not sure why people WANT to vote for Kiel. Everyone I’ve seen voting for her has only done so because they see so many people saying how awesome Evon is.
So in short, enjoy your 10-20s you will save on WP travel over the course of the next 4 weeks after Tuesday. Hope it was worth it to get probably the lamest fractal idea ever conceived. You could have changed this.
And when you realize just how boring the fractal is and then look into what you missed out on, I will be standing here shaking my head at you for making the choices you made.

Just over 10 hours remain in the voting guys. Anet shuts it off at 11am PDT on Aug 5th – today. Please push Evon over that 48% before it’s too late.
Remember reduced waypoint costs last for 4 weeks.. And we don’t even know how much they will be reduced. Abaddon and Thumanova are permanent so please vote based on fractals, not cheap temporary bonuses that won’t matter anyway.

Ellen Kiel is the people’s princess.
Nope.
Ellen Kiel is the people’s princess.
Yep., Typical casual response from people who vote because she’s a human female and not because of facts.
(edited by TehPwnerer.7215)
The casual majority decides who wins, and most probably don’t even know what’s being offered, or care. However, with the way voting is handled, most people probably didn’t bother to vote outside of getting enough buttons to do the achievements, allowing for people that actually care to catch up. I know I’m not going to bother placing my 1000 or so votes.
If voting was more accessible, like through the UI, there’d probably be 10x the votes as long as it was quicker to vote than to delete the token. However, the votes would be even more skewed as a lot more people would just vote on whoever was closer (to click).
The forums and people wanting the fractals are a minority.

Sadly, you’re not psychic, and don’t actually know the reason every individual chose to vote the way they did. Even if you did, what makes your vote more legitimate than theirs? If players like the waypoint cost reduction, that’s okay. If players don’t want to support gemstore RNG, that’s okay. If players are voting for story reasons, that’s okay. If players are voting because they actually want the Thaumanova fractal, that’s okay. Vice versa applies to voting for Evon.
It’s okay to be disappointed by the result, but acting like everyone made the “wrong” vote just because it’s not the result you wanted is pretty silly. There is no “wrong” vote.

OP: I am voting Kiel because I am generally interested in Thaumanova. I don’t give a rat’s hoo-hah about Abaddon. I know what I am voting for. Happy?

You’re disheartened because you think that I should vote for Gnashblade because you want the Abaddon fractal? Erhm… okay.
I vote for Kiel for anumber of reasons, and none of them have anything to do with her being human, pretty (which is in the eye of the beholder, really), or female.
One of these reasons is that I am genuinely more interested in Thaumanova. Not that I need to justify this.
And players who don’t even play fractals have every right to vote for their own reasons.
Nobody owes you a vote for your candidate that you chose because of your reasons. If we did, it wouldn’t be a vote.
I have to be honest and say that part of the reason I insist on voting for Kiel (not that I wasn’t anyway) is because of the condescending attitude of some GW1 veterans and their insistence that we should all be interested in the same things that they are.
I am not voting Evon due to he uses cheap tactic to win the vote (bribery). In addition of that Evon does not think for the good of LA people, but for himself (you can see it in cutscene and candidate trials). While Kiel, she thinks for the good of LA people.
Bring this to real world condition: supporting Evon = supporting a corrupt politician for your president; supporting Kiel = supporting a good politician for your president. Which one will I choose ? Of course Kiel.
if we was to base this from real life elections. they will say anything to get your votes, and once in office whatever it was they said goes out the window. evon would be a nice win but kiel…

As a GW1 vet myself, it is not necessarily that I feel like that and I can see how some fellow vets do act that way. Indeed GW belongs to all its fans, not just the old ones.
But I’ve I have been following Anet long enough(2005) to get a sense of how they produce content. I can tell one fractal is going to copy-paste old enemies and reuse an old map. The other one by nature would need an entirely new setting and new enemies.
I just want to see new stuff, personally.

OP and his posts is the reason I vote for Kiel.
It’s offensive to say people are voting for Kiel purely because she’s a “nice pretty human lady.”
Too bad for you if people are voting for reasons other than your pet consideration, but welcome to democracy.

And it’s naive to say that there aren’t people who are voting Kiel purely because she’s a “nice pretty human lady.” Have you seen map chat? Or perhaps some of the posts in this very forum?

I’d rather be naive than offensive any day.
Edited to say: Tbh, most of the comments I’ve seen remarking on Kiel’s attractiveness have been from people complaining that’s why she’ll win rather than people saying that’s why they’ll vote. Clearly it’s on people’s minds, but I’m not sure it’s the main driving force people worry it is. As a woman I’d very much like to remove “attractiveness” from having any effect on any election, virtual or otherwise.

I care as little about Abaddon both IC and OOC as I do about real life man-made theologies, and that is a lot less than I care about the potato harvest of Bavaria in 1911.
Potato harvest of 1911! Now that would make an excellent fractal.
I hardly use the wp’s anyway
Your concerns should be more focused on GW2 itself. If Arenanet can’t do a good job and something original with the reactor, then this game is doomed to begin with Abaddon or not, and that is far bigger issue then which fractal wins.
The story in this game, the characters, etc. need major development in general. From what I heard from people who played GW1 story, GW2 is definitly not on par according to them. So far what I seen, I am not too impressed. I only found the Mad King himself interesting which I would of love if he was something more serious and not holiday based. After that it all seemed meh. I cant speak for the Karka plot since I didn’t get to see half it due to bugs and Arenanet refusal to compensate.
I’d vote for the Mad King!
If Evon’s victory had something to do with Dragons I’d be more inclined to vote for him, but since Ellen help get me my sexy tentacle back piece, she gets all my one thousand support tokens I have remaining.
I don’t do many dungeons or fractals because I pretty much find them boring so basing MY vote on that wouldn’t really be a wise move for ME.
Stop think YOUR reason and YOUR opinion is the right one. I know Tyria and Gw Lore from all parts, I’ve played Gw1, I’m playing Gw2, I’ve read all-3 books. I’ve also read all lore wiki (Both games).
YOUR opinion is not the right one.
Yes, I’m voting on kiel ONLY because of fractal. I already know EXACTLY what happened in abaddon fall. I don’t need a cinematic of it. But Thaumanova is a DRAGON corruption center of research. And something had being very bad and wrong.
I’ll vote for something I don’t know yet, to discover more things about the lore of Guild Wars. I don’t need a useless cinematic of a thing we already have on wiki and in the books present in Gw2 game.
You are very ignorant for many reasons OP…first as has been stated a billion times thermuva wasn’t just a “whoops bad Asura lab experiment that blew up” it caused a rip in space and time that’s kind of important…not going into more details since it takes too long to explain…the big thing though is who the hell are you to tell people to stop RPing? I personally don’t do It much myself but many people love doing it and they are basing their vote off who their character would like and trust
Stop being a sore loser and a kitten about it and grow up a little and accept you may not get what you want
For the love of the six gods, you guys need to be more tolerant.
I’m a Kiel supporter myself, and what with it? I’m not voting for her just because I like her character better or she is human or pretty or whatever. I’m voting for her because of the fractal and only the fractal. I know I didn’t play GW1 and I realize Abaddon’s Fall is a very important and interesting event, but I’m still voting for Thaumanova. I have my own reasons and you have yours, then why are your reasons and your opinion more acceptable than mine? That’s not very fair, is it?
It’s a fractal, though. A mini-dungeon. Don’t expect much of an epic story behind it, whoever wins and whichever fractal we get.
Firstly, where is everyone getting this information on what the voting results will yield for us? I’d like to read that…Secondly, where are the results of the voting so far?
Thirdly, OP, I vote for Kiel for whatever reasons I want, but mainly just to make you cry!
i guess i have to vote for Kiel now, so i get to to watch those condescending Abbandon Fractual supporters QQ if Kiel wins.
thanks OP for giving me another reason to vote for Kiel, your tears are delicious.
(edited by hplee.2839)
I didn’t vote for Ellen because she’s human. I find Charr cooler, my main character is a Charr Warrior.
As for the Fractal, I would like to see the Abbadon Fractal, but I don’t do Fractals much, so meh.
I voted for Ellen Kiel because she’s not as slime ball like Evon Gnashblade. I was pretty sure I was gonna vote for her but when I did the candidate trials and she said she wanted to return the gold to the people instead of using it for her campaign, unlike Gnashblade. That pretty much sealed it
I don’t have a strong opinion on fractals or cheaper waypoints vs keys. I voted Kiel because I like that she blew up the Aetherblades ship, took their clothes, and is now wearing them.
Might not be the best reason to vote Kiel, but hey, if I voted wrong, this will be the least significant mistake I’ve ever made.
It’s okay to be disappointed by the result, but acting like everyone made the “wrong” vote just because it’s not the result you wanted is pretty silly. There is no “wrong” vote.
Casual players vote for Kiel, because they know her from Living Story, unlike Evon, who always has been ingame, but never was involved, I bet half of the voters don’t even know what both candidates have to offer. Another bs excuse people are voting to vote for Kiel instead of Evon is ‘every vote for Evon is a vote for RNG’, this is just stupid…
I say again, vote for Evon, I’m a fan of the lore, and if you know the full story of Abaddon you would agree with me and you would vote for Evon as well.
Where are the results being posted? I see nothing in the Dev Tracker.

In a sense both have to do with dragons, though Abaddon’s is more loosely defined. His temple is the only one not corrupted- one could argue because a lot of his statues and ect were removed but that’s no reason to corrupt and use his temple. Additionally, we know Zathian at least wanted an artifcat of Abaddon’s (everyone did this personal story step…it also shows that Zhatian was unable to access Abaddon’s temple for YEARS)
Finally two Asuran explorers, Rokk and Rolla by the Plaza of Lost Wisdom are investigating why this was the case but had found no solid initial leads. -This last bit, just like the reactor makes me hope that they do continue with these threads as both can be continued upon, albeit with less focus…Though i feel abaddon would have far less a chance
I voted for both equally because, I was torn. I want the reactor, and the first fall of abbaddon.
I liked the aspect arena, but I was not fond of the survival thing (yes I was equally bad at both)… both the “discounts” are only for 4 weeks, and since I WP all over the place for all sorts of reasons, that is more useful to me than cheaper BLC keys (even though I have a few I still need to open).
SO I voted for both, because I couldn’t make up my mind.
Where are the results being posted? I see nothing in the Dev Tracker.

Bah

That’s interesting take on it. I agree and would like either fractal to be good. I don’t think it is so much a question of whether Anet has the talent(they lost a TON of top talent in the year running up to release, btw), but whether management is willing to make the investment in labor to do a good job. We saw a lot of production short cuts taken with the last act of the campaign, which was clearly rushed in comparison to the rest of the game. The battle with Zhaitan being a particularly egregious example.
Anet can do a good job with either fractal idea if they are willing to invest.
But it is going to be tempting for management to have the devs merely copy-paste old enemies and old maps to save a bunch of money on creature development, map design, art, animation, sound work and so on. Because that is how managements are. They like to do it cheap when possible.
It would have been impossible to take those shortcuts with the Abbadon Fractal, whereas the Reactor idea easily allows it.
So, in the end, we may not get to see Anet truly tested.
Also I don’t think it is so simple to say GW1 story>GW2 Story but I didn’t want to make TL;DR post so maybe later.
It’s okay to be disappointed by the result, but acting like everyone made the “wrong” vote just because it’s not the result you wanted is pretty silly. There is no “wrong” vote.

Played GW1 and all campaigns. Beat Abaddon multiple times.
Still voted for Kiel.
It’s called difference of opinion, not right and wrong. Also, the ‘casual players’ thing is a bit of a broken record now. Everyone who plays this game, plays this game. Their opinion isn’t more or less legitimate than somebody who has more time to play or plays more seriously, whatever definition of the term you might be using.
I say again, vote for Evon, I’m a fan of the lore, and if you know the full story of Abaddon you would agree with me and you would vote for Evon as well.
I know the full story of Abaddon. Is epical. But All we already know exactly in details what happen.
I really prefer new things (TR). As I said, I don’t need a cinematic to a thing I know already.
After you have killed Abbadon over 100 times it loses a bit of the awesome. People that want that feel should go play the 3rd GW campaign. Still as good or better than the story we have here so far.
Abbadon was then, I am much more interested in seeing the now expanded and the Recent past explored. As for discounted keys, I’ll be interested at 1/10th normal price. At least the waypoint discount will be guaranteed gold. As for 20 silver, I spend that on waypoints in about 2 hours of really active play, so the discount will mean serious saving for me.
Keep in mind they are not going to directly say what is going on in the fractal. All of the current fractals are vague and that is kind of the point. I doubt we would get significant story info.
What will be significant is what we fight and the environment in which we fight it.

I think we will get real story as soon as they are ready to open up new zones on the map. I think that is more than a year away at the least though. Anet seems to be in rebuilding… c.c

MOVE ON?! But they are just sitting there, waiting for you to crack them open and get at that creamy filling.

This is ridiculous. You’re expecting to participate in this epic battle where the gods fight one another and cast Abaddon down, which is somehow supposed to fit into a single 10 minute fractal adventure. You need to reign those expectations in.
The truth is you have no idea what either fractal will end up looking like. For all you know Abaddon’s fall could be an underwater fractal where you fight loads of Margonites, with nary a god in sight.
Meanwhile, the Thaumanova Reactor could be something quirky and fun, like the party playing the role of Skritt who steal components from and sabotage the reactor, ultimately causing the meltdown. We just don’t know. What we do know is that one of the designers working on the fractals seems to be excited about the Thaumanova Reactor concept:
To shed some light on my bias, our team brainstormed up a bunch of fractals for you guys to pick from and then we settled on the best two. I got pretty excited about Thaumanova, given what we intend for it to entail so I’m Kiel supporter all the way.
That, to me, is a reason to vote in favor of Kiel. Meanwhile, you’re throwing all your hopes (and votes) behind some dream scenario that simply does not fit within the confines of a fractal dungeon. Fractals are short adventures, not epic god sagas. You’re voting on the fantasy in your mind instead of the reality we’d end up with.
(edited by Edge.4180)
I’ve done enough fractals for a lifetime. After getting my 8 skins and two bank tabs of rings(sold 1 tab to make space). I don’t see the point of fractals anymore, it’s just grind for very little reward. Was willing to grind for the skins but after that it falls flat. I didn’t even do the fractal or dungeons for the achievement.
So why did I vote Kiel? Not for the way points, I have 300G and a legendary, gold is useless at this point. I use $ for the gem store. I finally came to the decision to vote Kiel because people call her Kormir v3 and Kormir is my chosen god.
