Seriously Anet: NEVER do this again.
Couldn’t agree more. I was so excited to hear that Fall of Abaddon was going to be a fractal event in GW2. Apparently people wanted a less exciting alternative. And player voting was the cause of us not seeing that. Really a shame. Especially since everything surrounding both NPCs had Gnashblade set up to fail.

Agreed whole-heartedly. NEVER force us to lose content like this again. I’m sad that over half the playerbase wants Inquest lab 2304, over the fall of a god, and now we miss out on it forever. This is just going to cause more and more anger.
F’rinstance, how am I going to stop some big mean mother Charr from downing me?
The answer… use a turret. And if that don’t work.. use more turrets.
Personal politics are ugly enough in the real world.
When you bring those elements into a space we’re supposed to be having fun in, it turns it ugly, especially when it’s centered around low-information “voters” who saw a pretty white Mary Sue and just tossed their tokens at that.
Now you’ll have just under half of the playerbase, the majority of which have probably been around since GW1 days and spent more money on the game, feeling robbed of interesting content and an interesting character in the mix. When that large a number of your playerbase feels cheated by a slim majority, especially when the mechanics are in question, you’re going to have a lot of negative fallout just like in an actual “election”.
We got a tease of something as monumental as witnessing THE FALL OF A GOD.
Now we’re going to get an aesthetic retread of CoE.
For Serious,
Never ever do anything like this ever again.
bwahahahaahahahahha
It was pretty effective at dividing the community.
While I think you should get over it, I do agree they should never ever ever do something like this again.
I don’t want them to do it ever again because it is clear they fail at making it balanced. Putting a known against an unknown and something hated hardcore like RNG keys against something well liked such as waypoints.
I’d rather there but no choice over the illusion of choice.
This would have been the oldest we had ever seen Tyria taking place 1,326 before GW2’s current day and 1,071 years before the events of GW1.
Such a disappointment. I hope they reconsider coming back to the idea at a later date.
Personally I thought it was good fun…
You all just take it to seriously…
I disagree, ArenaNet SHOULD make use of this kind of Living Story in the future.
They only should make it a personal choice, based on the character, and keep the benefits for winning hidden.
I think the topic needs more threads….
For Serious
Let me taste those salty tears!

Not everyone who voted Kiel was a newbie who doesn’t know what’s going on in the game. Sometimes people who have been around since GW1 are tired of putting neutral grey/dark people in power. I voted by story, not by fractal.

Your personal voting preference doesn’t matter in majority politics.
Net result is the same.
Slim minority who spends more money on the game gets embittered and the community gets…

…divided.

So you don’t want another content vote because you lost? How would you feel if Evon had won, and Kiel supporters wrote the same message?
So you don’t want another content vote because you lost? How would you feel if Evon had won, and Kiel supporters wrote the same message?
I don’t really think that would have happened. Overall the Kiel supporters tend to be less shouty/annoying/loud and a bit more mature. I am just being a petty and poor winner because those specific Evon supporters annoyed me. Had Evon won, my response would have been “Ah well, there will probably be another way to find out what happened”. But because the Evon side has handled themselves during the campaign… yeah, they deserve to have it rubbed in.

The same way. And no, I believe that these heavily divisive events are just a bad idea.

Better, but there’d still be terrible fallout and a player base divided with half actually asking ANET if they can literally assassinate the new elected official.
It was inherently a bad idea to do this.
But the bigger point is there wasn’t a content vote. There was a vote between an eeeeeevil mancat and a white Mary Sue. I’m sure plenty of voters probably never even clicked the “tell me more” button, a vast number don’t even come to the forums or the website.

I disagree. Considering the reactions of some Kiel supporters, I find them just to be just as shouty/annoying/loud as some Evon supporters. In fact, the casual racism of most Kiel supporters I’ve seen has convinced me that they’re the opposite of mature.
I saw more than a “pretty white (not sure why you had to bring her skin colour into this) Mary Sue”. So in your face with a can of mace, make you cry all over the place!

A doubly-hasty generalization. What you see in game on both sides is only a portion of each player segment, in terms of maturity / rage.
The reactions of people like you who think that this should be “rubbed in” is why I don’t want to see anything like this happen again – needless, large amounts of rage.

Evon supporters have no room to talk.

Cause and effect. Blame the cause.

Cause and effect, again. Maybe the Evon fanatics shouldn’t have called us casual noobs with no more than 20 silver et cetera.

Gosh, look at this unity. GW2 sure is achieving their mission statement of uniting a playerbase!
At the rate we’re going you’ll have a growing number of players wanting to swear allegiance to the Elder Dragons.

I did, but you applied selective quoting. But if that suits you, feel free. It won’t make you get rid of Kiel.

Disagreed. At least the race (or species) was at least related to the candidates, it did not attack the voters. So.. yeah, the only crime is role palying in an RPG. What a crime!

And yet the other side displays staggering acts of casual sexism. You can’t pretend one side is the only one bad while the other side is equally deserving of contempt.
