As an important mechanic with long-term effects, it’s unfortunate that election results will end up being relatively inaccurate (except in the case of a landslide) because of requiring support of both candidates to get all achievements. If, for example, it takes player x longer to get the homeland support achievement for Ellen than it does for Evon, more support will be given to Ellen, regardless of the player’s intended choice.

It would have been better to only allow support of a single candidate with more achievements, larger achievements, and/or achievements of a higher value for the individual candidates. With that, each player’s “vote” would have been clear and identifiable, rather than a mix of support between two candidates with the assumption that the player will actually keep playing and supporting his/her chosen candidate long enough to render their necessary support of the other candidate irrelevant.

But it doesn’t – the achievements are very balanced. Doing a dungeon run, or your dailies, or events in Ascalon/Kryta takes exactly the same effort for either candidate.

So while some people will go for all achievements, including representing the candidate that they don’t support, they will simply cancel each other out.

I don’t think the results will be skewed as much as you think they will. I think people will place a few tokens for the candidate they don’t want simply to gain buttons that allow them to get all of the achievements.

You only really need 4 or 5 buttons (on the high side) to complete the achievements that require them. Most of the others can be done without showing support for any candidate at all.

Once you have the achievements for the “other side,” you can simply continue using tokens on whatever candidate you want to win. If both sides do this, then both sides will have slightly inflated tallies. As Pixelpumpkin said, they’ll cancel each other out. Hardly a big deal.

Most players will be spending the about same amount of tokens on each side to get their support achievements done. This cancels itself out. You can then support who you want with your leftovers.

It’s only unbalanced/skewed if you assume each player gets a single vote, or perhaps only a set number of votes. That’s not the case here. Players vote multiple times based on how many Support Tokens they farm and how much they play during this time, and cast these votes based on what they want from the election (the rewards from whichever result are specifically listed). If some players want the achievements for the other party, another “reward”, then obviously they’ll put some votes in for that party in order to get those achievements.

However, in the long run, these extra votes can be considered minor, and can generally be assumed to be performed on both sides fairly equally since we can’t make the argument that achievement hunters would largely favor one candidate or the other. Considering that the achievements themselves are mirrored, they essentially cancel each other out.

Yes, and to be honest, the tokens drop like sweets. Having plenty of leftovers, even for players who only complete the achievements, wont be a problem.

The only skewing achievement is southsun survival. It takes approximately 10x longer to get the achivement there then it does in the Aspect Arena. Therefore people will be giving 10x the support to Evons game over Kiels in order to get the achivement.

This is fine by me, I want him to win.

You dont need to have your support badge on to play this game and get the achievments. This skews nothing.

Has there been any confirmation that playing the 2 individual minigames actually gets any influence with the candidate anyway?

I was under the impression that the only things that actually counted as far as the gamewide voting for who ends up taking the council seat were support tokens handed in and maybe candidate trials. Though even candidate trials I’m not sure of, since you still get support tokens from that, and if it actually counted toward the vote you probably wouldn’t need to give tokens at all for it.

None of the patch info suggests the minigames actually support the candidates. They stress that the voting is what puts your candidate further ahead.

If you care more for Evon than Kiel put two tickets in for Evon for every one for Kiel. You get twice as many buttons you don’t need, but so what? Button use has nothing to do with the vote, only tickets do. So if you need more Kiel buttons you just have to make sure to also put tickets in for Evon to even it out. It isn’t like they’re hard to get, even without just buying them.

I plan to give Evon just enough to get my achievements done, then give the rest of my stack to Kiel.

I just wish there was a “give 5/10/25 tokens at a time” option. It’s kinda annoying when you have literally hundreds of tokens.

That kind of annoyance is quite common in this game. remembers having to turn in 5000 pieces of Zhaitaffy for food.

Its definitely something they should look into relieving in the future. It happens far too often and should be easy to fix.
