I really don’t understand the idea behind a “rare chance” at temporary content. RNG is bad enough on its own but have both together, and it just sucks for most. I don’t favor the idea of having a rare chance at that sword not getting it then never getting another chance once the event is over. I noticed they didn’t do that with Kites. They didn’t do it with pay crafting items, they didn’t do it with the Aether Armor…. but weapons is OK? I wouldn’t mind a rare chance if the item doesn’t stop being a chance after two weeks. Or if the item is a loot for two weeks then gone forever. But both RNG and two week availability suck.

@denny that challenge isn’t one of this permanent minigames from this patch?

I hope its not some temporary event. I really want to get some of those sweet, sweet skins. :\

Booo to to RNG! I would love aetherblade weapons, steampunk is my kind of thing after all. Not getting these wonderful things because of “luck” will be most infuriating. The drop rate better not be ridiculous, and by ridiculous we need look no further than silly jade dragon ticket chance.

we can always hope that the skins are sellable, so even if we are getting gouged by another player, the option is there to buy them.

Maybe they will be tradable on the trading post? It worked well with the catchers (but I’m certain the rapier will be an ungodly amount of money).

Which is sad. I want that rapier soooooo badly. It will be the most expensive item. By far.

Did anyone else happen to notice the rapier also has a slight wobble to it as it moves?
I’m assuming that’s a large contributor to the interest already here, though.

Nah. It’s more the fact that it’s the game’s one and only courtly blade.

Just please, tell me they are not like the dragon tickets in the dragon chests? I finished up the holographic kills achievement, didn’t manage to get even one, and I want that shield.

Yup. Same with the other two rewards. Must be people didn’t notice that there are only 100something of each of the aspect back items from BotFW on the TP? It probably gonna be the same as with the new rewards from CP. I really hate this rare rng chance crap. I can’t get anything from it, no matter how many kitten times I run the stuff (same thing happened with MA dungeon).

My boyfriend really wants the rapier – I don’t need an Aetherized weapon ticket myself. Knowing how things usually go, I’ll find 4 and he won’t find any.

If they’re rare, they should be tradable at least, so the few tickets that drop find their way to those who really want them.

Just realize that getting a super rare ticket in the past doesnt really mean it was not bad. I know some ppl were lucky with Jade Dragon, some like myself were lucky with the southsun tickets, but as always there have been people that spent ungodly amount of effort and yet have not gotten even one.

Anyhow, just would like to request if anyone can link me to wherever you ppl are getting added info on this aetherized weapons stuff?

I didn’t see any rapier within the icons that were data-mined. Anyone have proof that they’re giving it as a usable skin?

I’d be very, very careful with assuming anything there. After all, the shoulderpads we got from that last JP were “aetherized” as well. Didn’t stop them from having already known skins.

I really want that rapier, but after wasting so much of my time on Dragon Coffers without a single sniff of a jade ticket, I’m not interested in more RNG. That’s not to say I won’t try any new content that happens to have RNG rewards, but I’m not trying for RNG loot anymore. There are aspects of this game that are actually fun, so I’d rather focus on them.

And… yay!! compound bows!! I hope the Shortbow looks cool!!

And is that a Skyhook like in Bioshock Infinite? If the dagger skin is a Sky Hook I will instantly pick it!! And of course the revolver… I might make ALL my weapons from this set lol

a) group up with my guldies for this one
b) have no limit to the number of wave you can survive and better chance of loot everytime. I thought that was how the christmas tower defense event was going to be like but it had a cap :/

I am very worried by “might have a rare chance.” My thief needs a rapier and two steam pistols. I will become a sword thief if I get that rapier. I have guild mates who need a rapier to look right — one of them even drew her mesmer with a rapier eerily close to the aether design long before the skypirates were even announced.

Previous new weapon and armor skins have been interesting but they have been mere variations on the general style. The rapier is qualitatively different. It should be available by means other than pure luck.

I got more than enough scraps for them. Seems a good method. A rare chance for a one shot at it, but open enough, you can get it anyways. Might be a good standard.

Color me a skeptic I guess, though from another point of view. After the lovely “aetherized” shoulderpads we got from the JP I’d be hardly shocked if these aren’t even new skins.

Could be, though a rapier really is just a sword. I’m not sure they can justify making it a new weapon all together.

The portable cannon on the other hand…
Ever used a aetherised tonic to turn into Horrik and hit a piniata in LA? Doing so allowed your character to go into combat modus with the cannon. It strikes me as funny that they bothered making idle animations with it if they only plan on using it once on a side boss.

Portable cannons, that’s where the future’s at.

Thats a polite way of saying “lol nope”

Yeah. I want the rapier/pistol for my mesmer. Right now I’m scepter-torch/staff, but the GW2 build system is flexible enough—and my attitude towards min/maxing casual enough—that I’ll go where the shinies go. It’d be nice if I could get them.

But, yeah. Rare chance? Time-limited? I hate this. I really, really hate this. If it’s BoE, I’ll happily buy gems; my time is more valuable than my money. If it’s BoA? Then it’s the Jade weapons all over again. Some people get tons—my boyfriend has four of them from 20 Rich Coffers—and others get none. And while I can schedule time to earn something, I can’t block off two weeks of solid playing just so that maybe-possibly-if-I’m-lucky I’ll get a rare drop. It’s just not worth it.

And Donari’s right. It would be one thing if these were more fire weapons, or another iteration of the standard high-fantasy-anime-mega-swords, but they’re not. They’re a unique type of weapon meant to match a theme that they’ve been heavily pushing, both with the story and with gem store outfits. Pure RNG doesn’t seem to fit here.

That being said, we don’t know everything yet. But, man, I’ll be disappointed if dumb luck is the only way to obtain them.

Well obviously you’ll be able to get them fairly easy from the fortune scraps. I meant getting one from the sanctum sprint game, which is the same way we’ll be getting the new items, both the backpieces and the aetherized weapons.
