“Enough with the RNG! Give us some guaranteed way to get the item. It’s doesn’t matter if it’s hard, we just want some way to track progress!”

“On second thought, the guaranteed way is too hard. Please make it easier.”

“Scratch that, it’d be better if we just got our items for logging on.”

I laughed at a good deal of this thread. I saw some suggestions that 1,000 taffies total is reasonable, which would value the wings at 2.1g currently. Being as the Jorbreaker is one of the largest Zhaitaffy sinks, if the cost of the wings were indeed 1,000 taffy total, it would likely drop to 2c/piece, making the wings worth about 20 silver. I might as well pick up a dozen or two.

With the current drop rates of Dragon Coffers (dropping like candy everywhere), and multitude of ways to acquire them (they are in all loot tables, pinatas), 100,000 is just about right assuming this is meant to be a “rare” reward.

So I guess you missed the post that basically broke down the reasonable grinding time. At about 180 per hour which still is a bit in the far fetched range, your looking at around 555 hours of grinding to get them. Do you still think this is about right? Are you the type that plays 10-12hrs per day?

OK, just heard from a guildie, he got over 2 stacks in less then an hour, just running around doing the holos so apparently it is possible to do a lot better then 100 an hour.

Even if 200/hr was the norm…that would be a HUGE grind, beyond the legendary grind.

Not 200 an hour, 2 stacks. That’s 500 an hour.
It’s still a grind, but doable. I have no intention of doing it myself. After finally seeing the wings I find them ugly as sin and would not want them for free. I am getting a little tired of the crystal blue look, it’s been done to death in this game and needs to stop.

Not saying you are a liar…but I would have to see an hour long video of someone getting 500 in that time frame…of course then there is video editing…sooo lol.

Not likely. When have you known Anet to do something like that. The event is here.. for what.. a month? Do you really believe that the extra content is going to suddenly bring in some events so quickly repeatable to maintain 180 per hour? Even if it did, were looking at 555 hrs still.

So lets cut the time in half, do we really think Anet is going to come up with some sort of repeatable and highly farmable event that allows people to maintain 360 candies per hour so they only have to farm.. 180hrs. Wait, that still is completely far fetched.

How long might the average person play a day? 4 hrs? Lets assume a person plays at least 4 hours a day for 30 days straight (which again, highly unlikely). So grinding for 120hrs over the next month to reach 100,000 candies, someone would need to grind 833 candies every hour they were on.

So now ask yourself this again, do you really think Anet, is going to add in some sort of repeatable event that’ll be so profitable that a player will be able to maintain 833 candies per hour? I’m guessing, absolutely not.

We do however know that there are story missions incoming. And for all we know the rewards for said story missions will be Jorbreakers.

Or you can save up for next year or the year after that. It’s a long term goal like legendaries or other holiday rewards. This game was not meant to simply exist for one year and then get shut down because GW3 gets announced later this year.

Are you sure next year we won’t have an all new currency? What is your evidence?

Since we’re in the first year still, I can only draw on all the MMOs that I’ve played. There may be a new reward/activity added each year to spice things up, but I have never seen a recurring event change currencies. I didn’t play GW1, but anyone who plays GW1 please chime in on how ANet does holiday events there.

At least, if you work for it, you’ll get the wings. You could spend this whole month grinding and not get a weapon skin. And considering how cheap the candies are on the AH, and how often they drop, plus the piniattas, I think the wings are pretty doable, and I bet most people who wanted them will have them by the end of this.

Still more content that may provide candies as rewards?

Even so let’s say that each upcoming new content mission or such gave out a FULL STACK OF ZHAITAFFY (250) and we still have 4 locked achievements, let’s say there is 10 quests or whatever that you can do which will reward 250 for the first time you complete them. From those first time rewards from 10 quests still only give you 2500 candies. You still need 97500 candies.

Now let’s say if they added in a dungeon that gave 250 candies for first time completion or even as end reward no matter what. You’d have to re-run said dungeon 400 times for 100k taffies.

Or even looking for other various possibilities that each of the locked achievements gave out 10 jorbreakers each, you’d still need 60 jorbreakers, 60,000 taffies.

No matter how you look at it, the numbers are terrible.

From all the other crappy mmo’s I’ve played, I’ve never seen something like this where you needed to trade in 100k items for a single item. Maybe if it were gold or some kind of common currency in the game which would be the equivalent of 10million or so (you can’t compare taffies to common currency due to the large gap between them. You sell an item and could get 1000coins or so, but in GW2 you get 1 taffy per monster (if it drops it).

I have a strange feeling that you are more likely to get a weapon ticket from a coffer than someone managing to grind out 100k taffies.

And the candies are being sold at the AH too, I think I’ve already sold about 300 or so, and I only play about three hours a day, and I wasn’t grinding for them. Between going around killing stuff, both holograms and monsters out in the world, the pinatas, future events that will probably give them out, and getting some from the AH (because while you’re grinding mobs for coffers, you’re also getting coin), I think it’s doable by the end of the month at least. And by that point you may have even gotten the achievement set as well.

Some people don’t understand how large number 100k is. Imagine that you could get 250 candies by just porting to orr. Assume also that you would then have to go bank them in Lions Arch before receiving more candies from orr.
Now, it would still cost more than 10 gold in waypoint costs alone to get the required 100k candies xD, not to mention the several hours you would be watching loading screens .:D

But since you can just buy them off TP for not too much gold, I think the wings are fine. No, I don’t think you are meant to get the wings via candy farm.

Sell the jorbreakers, buy the wings. You’ll get it long before the 100k. Or you could go farm CoF for 3-4 hours. The price of the wings also keeps dropping. Just wait a little while and they’ll be even less expensive.

This event was done RIGHT. You could get lucky and get the wings early, but if not, you have a 100% certain way of getting them. That was the major complaint from the flame and frost event with the jetpack… there was no guarantee you would ever get anything. I guess some people are just never pleased.

I like the way ANet structured the reward for the wings, although I do think 100,000 Zhaitaffies is still excessive. I’d have put it at 10 Jorbreakers for the Wings, not 100. It’s still a grind, but it’s a grind that’s totally achievable if you farmed taffies for the month and purchased them for cheap.

You either spend your money buying 100,000 pieces of Zhaitaffy or CoF path 1 your way to 20-30g for the wings.

You don’t need to be a “$$$$$MONEYRUNS$$$$$$$ PING YOUR GEAR AND ACHIEVEMENT POINTS TO FINISH THIS DUNGEON 2 MINUTES EARLY ZERKR WAR/MES ONLY NO N00BS” farmer to get 20-30g from CoF path 1. You can even squeeze some CoE in there for the charged lodestones/cores that drop from the chests. I’ve been getting 10g a day from doing path 1 and 2 of CoF and all paths of CoE, if I come in short I just run a path or two again for more tokens.

You don’t have to play NCSoft’s RNG scam. You don’t have to gather 100k pieces of Zhaitaffy. Just run dungeons and you’ll have them before the this festival is over.

I bought mine for 21g, don’t really like them because they’re a pair of wings and I’m not Linkin Park enough to like wings in an MMORPG, just keeping them around as collectables like everything else from holidays :P

I’m not sure prices will go down much more than they already are. People will be buying these all throughout the event to gamble for Jade weapon skins. Almost everyone I know likes these skins, so they’re much more popular than Fused/Sclerite weapons, which should help keep demand high.

If Rich Dragon Coffers gave out a guaranteed skin, then yes, I would have agreed that demand for normal Coffers would have petered out very quickly.

The way that I see it, and I am sure this has probably been stated in this thread somewhere, is that the complete wings, the non-shattered version that you get from the 100,000 candies, are a prestige item for folks who have the gold or the time to spend on them. The other version, the shattered version that can be gotten through the Dragon Bash Experience achievement are for folks who play casually and don’t have the gold or the time to get the complete set. And to be honest, I think the shattered version looks far cooler than the complete version.

So for th TLDR crowd…

[Complete Dragon Wings] = Prestige Item
[Shattered Wings] = Casual Item

So stop complaining.

It feels like somebody accidentally a 0, but I think they were considering the overall amount of candy that players would obtain and the impact on the number of wings added to the economy total rather than the amount obtained by a single person.

What they needed to do instead would be to lower the amount of candy needed, make the candy account bound and make the candy version a masterwork account bound version like it was with the super adventure box. Possibly lower the drop rate of the rare skin as well.

This would allow people to realistically obtain the skin on their own without flooding the market with too many skins.

If you really want the wings your best bet is to go for the hologram achievement.

The wings might well drop from the holograms directly (that’s how I got mine yesterday), or from the chests which you will get a lot of. Or from a random mob you kill on your way to a hologram.

And if not you can sell the taffy you get and other drops and buy the wings on the TP.

what most of you are realli missing is that even if you manage to get 100k candies, you can sell them for, if the price is 3c (now is 4 times higher), 30 gold.

the skin is priced 25 now, and is dropping fast.. imagine how much it would be after one month of ppl farming… 5g? less? so why waste 30-60 gold to buy a 5g skin? sell candies as soon as you get them, and buy the skin later…

if you do it now for example, candies are 12c.. you will get at least 60-80 gold selling 100k of them…

I didn’t play GW1, but anyone who plays GW1 please chime in on how ANet does holiday events there.

No one seems to have answered this yet, so for reference here you go

In GW1 the festivals were very simple and very easy. All you had to do for the special item was show up. At the end of every event there would be a big NPC that appeared in a major city or two and did an event. Such as Mad King Says with the Mad King at Halloween or the Emporor at the Dragon Festival and so on. The events lasted for about half an hour and you didn’t have to participate to get the item, just be present (so many people would dump themselves in a city and Away From Keyboard the entire day). The only event that required you to get tokens for a hat was the dragon festival (I believe) and you only needed 250 of them, easily doable with one character if you completed all the festival quests.

There was one festival that gave you the same lion hat every year (I want to say it was the dragon festival but I don’t remember for sure). Aside from that, the hats were different every year. So if you wanted every hat you had to be present at every single festival until the devs put the game into ‘ghost mode’ for GW2 and added vendors that allowed you to get hats from missed festival years (in place of getting new hats every year).

This is as close to a prestige item as GW1 ever had. There were green items that had to be farmed, but often they could be reproduced with non-green skins. There were also other items sometimes available at the festivals such as the celestial minis, which originally had to be RNGed from lunar fortunes (or purchased from other players) but can now be purchased from a vendor during the celestial ceremony. You could also craft candy cane items at Christmas. I would say that candy cane shards (needed for weapons and other Christmas items) were the most grindy and hardest to get items in the first game festival wise, but even then you didn’t need a 100 of them to make something. I think you needed like 10 or 20.

So you can see there’s quite a big difference between how festivals were run in the first game as opposed to how they’re run now. And while yes, Arena Net DID create tittles that couldn’t be achieved in one year, they were in no way related to festivals – they were all the time persistent things that you could work on all year. And special festival items (hats) were only ever available for one year.

So the fear here is that the wings will only be around for one year and then never appear again.

I don’t think anyone wants them to be easy. I don’t. I don’t mind a challenge. But logistically, it makes more sense right now to get the money to buy them from the TP than it does to try to save 100,000 candies for a set of wings.

Also I think a lot of people’s complainants about the activities aren’t that it’s challenging but rather that it’s not. I don’t really feel like I’m being rewarded for completing an activity so much as I am mindlessly hitting the same things over and over until I hit the requisite number. But I don’t think making it more like the first game is the answer either since, obviously, you didn’t really have to do much in that case already. And the ‘hats’ (the dragon helmets) are already being rewarded in a manner similar to the first game anyway (by requiring you only to watch a fireworks show in town available every couple of hours).

So hopefully something in there was helpful Cheers!

You have already answered how it is possible that some people already have it – they have it from drops. Not from merchant.

Which would make the whining about the cost from the merchant rather silly, don’t you think?
Since clearly it is possible to get it in other ways.

Why? Being able to get it any other way does not change the price being ridiculous in the slightest. If Anet did not intend anyone to buy from that merchant (and it is clear that indeed was their goal), they should not have put him in the game at all.

The way that I see it, and I am sure this has probably been stated in this thread somewhere, is that the complete wings, the non-shattered version that you get from the 100,000 candies, are a prestige item for folks who have the gold or the time to spend on them.

Nobody has enough time to farm 100k zhaitaffies, and it’s cheaper to buy the wings off TP directly. Which means, that there’s absolutely no point to the merchant at all (except as a very bad joke at the player’s expense).

I have to say I agree that it’s ridiculous, but I think the important thing is that because there are other completely viable methods for getting it how practical it is to buy it from the merchant is irrelevant to us as players. It doesn’t really matter whether each method is individually good, or as good as each other, what matters is there is a viable way to get it.

It’s pure speculation but my guess is Anet put the merchant in so that people would log in, take their first look at the event and go “Oh ok, so if I don’t get lucky with a drop I can just save up candy and buy one.” and by the time they realised it’s crazy to save up they’d also have realised it was pretty easy to get a lucky drop or save up and buy one.

Otherwise the first day or so this forum would have been full of people raging that they’ll never be able to get one, before they even knew what the drop rate was or how much they’d be worth on the trading post.

Are you saying that after farming 200 mobs you received no more Coffers?

I probably went around a dozen projectors so say 48 mobs or so with no coffers.
