Achievement descriptions in living story are huge spoilers, as always. Just a suggestion, remove these until you move on to the next content, or add them as the content for them arrives.

No. Description help people like me. Casual to spend less time figuring WTH to do. If you don’t like it just don’t read it. You have the control of you own cursor no?

We just don’t want players to grind in Guild Wars 2. No one enjoys that.

I think he means on the achievements that are not yet in game, such as Hard Boiled, Case Closed, and Ceremony and Acrimony. There is information for those that you don’t need to even mouse over to read. They could replace them with “??? – Not yet in game” until the content is actually available, so people know it’s not available yet and they don’t need to worry about it.

He means the achievements for content that is not added into the game yet. In the last Southsun event, we knew from day one it was Canach because of the achievements when we were not supposed to find out in the second phase. This would cut down on spoilers and confusion by players that are looking to complete achievements for content that doesn’t exist yet.

Actually, you could find out on day 1 it was Canach even without the achievement spoilers or the scavenger hunt reward (and it was somewhat predictable too), so while the point remains, it wasn’t that big of a spoiler.

This one’s…a bit bigger.

I know, I talked to the NPCs and found out about Canach before I read the achievement list. Oh, here’s a link to a dev post regarding where he called it a bug, but more likely an oversight by them. Thanks for the heads up. I’ll try and avoid looking at it.

Here’s the quote:
“There are various bits of story spread throughout the Southsun Cove content. Some are in idle scenes, whereas others are nestled in journals, conversations, or achievement lists (which, due to a bug, did not obscure later events and revealed some spoilers ahead of time). Having a few story cinematics at key moments would have certainly helped players piece together the plot, so in the future we will likely use them in ways similar to the F&F releases.”

Hey folks,

While we do have the ability to turn some types of content on and off dynamically, the text for achievements are not one of those things. Unfortunately, this means if we have content that turns on before our next release, the achievement text will have to be available on patch day.

Many players require a bit of direction and context and we have found that the achievement text is a useful way for us to direct them. While there is a big downside of presenting some spoilers, we are working hard to frame the text so as to not spoil the actual events that will be happening over the next two weeks.

I will say that unlike the southsun achievements, all of the achievements in the dragon bash category will be accomplishable before our next release (hotfixes don’t count :p).

Could you, theoretically, do the achievement text update via hotfix when the content turns on? Not to be rude, but the odds of having a hotfix at some point, based on previous releases, seem pretty likely. It’s not the best scenario, but it could be an option.

Considering the reactions I see from previous content, players seem to expect a small update when new content is incoming anyway, even if it’s just being turned on.

Thanks for the response. Many players do require direction and I believe you can do that without spoiling things is by adding heart NPCs to the event and have scouts/heralds/letters point out where they are. In this way you can have your achievement log simply be “complete 10/10 event related tasks”. Once a new phase of the event is added along with new content and achievements, you can add or remove these heart NPCs. Once the event ends, you can completely remove them. In addition, these heart NPCs can be used to offer rewards like the flower backpiece in Southsun instead of just having it pop up out of no where on your screen.

Everyone goes to the achievements tab to see what you need to do to get the achievements. So either you avoid spoilers and put vague descriptions on how to get the achievements (not good at all) or you put spoilers in there (not good at all). You can’t win with the current system so the current system has to be changed.

Thank you for the explanation, that makes sense.

I admit that after what Bobby said in this thread, I was hoping there weren’t going to be any more spoilers in the achievement list. I really try to avoid them as I want to play the Living World events for the story.

Why not have anything not activated colored in red? Still readable but obvious to everyone it isn’t available.

Once that content becomes available, how would you change it back to white?
