there is a debate going on right now wether rich dragon coffers have a guaranteed weapon ticket inside or not.

1st time I like the BLTC weapon skins but I’m not gonna gamble for them, if I’m spending real money on these coffers I expect a weapon ticket to be included in each one or why bother paying real money if it’s still RNG BS !

Why do we let this slide as if it’s the most normal thing in the world ?

I see only one way to fix this issue:

- split gem purchases in two:
1- if you bought gems with ingame gold the rich coffers do have RNG in them for the weapon tickets.
2- if you spent real money on gems the rich coffers have a guaranteed ticket in them.
there problem solved.

How to implement such a thing, not a clue I leave that to the genius coders at A.net.

Why don’t sell the ticket directly ? If you only want skin and does not give any kitten to “infinite” thing, you can buy the skin directly.

I like the longbow skin and if it’s a straight sale (aka if rich coffers are guarenteed a ticket) then I’ll get one. If not then I won’t even try, I refuse to spend real money for RNG.

It sounds mean but I’m going to let other people take the risk (because I know they will anyway) and wait and see how they work before I decide if I’m going to buy them or not.

if i pay with real money, i want the actual product, not the chance of getting the product.

Do you go to a shopping mall and pay to play a roulette to get the cool dress that you want? no.

There should be 2 kinds of Gems – Red Gems which you get from exchanging in game gold and Blue Gems which you get from spending $$. And let the red gems be tied to RNG.

Yeah you’re right, I just went back and re-read that… though I’m still under the impression that the regular coffer will act as the normal rng boxes we have been getting and I’m sure the rich coffer (I’m gonna assume THIS is the one that will be put in the gem store) will have a much better rate of ticket acquisition… even if that rate is just 5%

And when someone does hit the jackpot we think it is a common occurrence, that a lot of people hit the jackpot everyday, when in reality only a very hard controlled low percentage is allowed this joy in order to keep the money bleeders paying and playing till they exhaust all their monetary resources.

I don’t like the suggestion that there be two different kinds of gems.
I really don’t think that there should be a difference in how you get your gems- I have bought gems with real money and I have bought gems with gold. Gems are gems.

However we should be allowed to buy skins with gems.
Boxes that give a chance of skins are all fine and well from openworld and I think of them as semi-lucky packets.

RnG boxes for gems is nonsense.

I would like several of these skins- If I can buy them with gems I will, one box one ticket, if you want me to gamble on it, my gems stay in my bank.

I will spend them on a sure thing down the line, sorry.

Probably would be a nightmare to administrate for all those that spent cash on half the gems need for a coffer, and traded gold for the other half needed. Ack!

No it wouldn’t. You only have half the gems you would need to buy a coffer. There is nothing confusing about it. You wouldn’t be able to combine the gems to get something. You either need 300 blue gems or 300 red gems.

That being said, they should keep 1 kind of gem and just take the skins off RNG.

It’s an interesting proposition, but naught will come of it, I fear. =)

Why go to all the trouble of re-coding the entire gem store? If they wanted to assure someone would get a ticket, they can just sell the tickets for weapon skins. And who would care how one obtained the gems?

I doubt the Rich Coffers have 100% chance to drop a weapon skin; again, why not just put the ticket up for sale?

Still, I guess we will find out exactly how it works in just a few hours. Good luck to us all! =)

Even if we figure that the Rich Coffer has a guaranteed drop… I would advise NOT to buy it right away, until we see how frequent they drop from the regular coffers. Unless your intent is to simply support ANet, then have at it.

They aren’t anywhere offering you the item directly aside from your ticket… now if they asked you to roll the dice then that would be an issue…

This is like going to the store and seeing a set of 10 items… 9 of which you have zero interest in and could get out of a quarter little toy vending machine… the other 1 is something you really desire with an advertised VERY LOW chance of getting them via buying this particular “sale” box… You’re right… no one in their right mind would do this for an ordenary pair of pants or something… but for a premium or status item like a big 3d tv or for the sake of this argument some say… $1000 Designer pants (yes they do exist and much beyond this price too).. there are people who will be more than willing to roll the dice for something that is exclusive in this way and something that not your average person would own.

And just because someone likes to gamble doesn’t make them IQ impaired (say someone wants to buy some boxes just for the fun of opening them)… gambling WITH the purpose of winning big makes someone IQ impaired… The thing is unless you are offered something directly, no matter how much you pay for the chance at it you’re never guaranteed to get it… And as for the house always winning… my dad always told me when I was young, A fool and his money are easily parted…. that’s all they’re doing, it’s not their fault people are extremely foolish with their money.

My guess is that it may not be tickets but actual skins.. but maybe the rich ones have a skin in them. So still rng but you get a skin each chest.

…and here goes the hope Anet learned something. RNG boxes again, but this time they made sure you HAVE to pay for them (because i bet the “chance” from dropable coffers is in 1:1000 range or worse).

You are assuming that they see it as a problem. If they are making more money this way than from direct sales, then to them there is no problem at all. Since they are continuing to offer these, then my guess is they are making good money from the RNG boxes. It will only end if people stop spending so much money buying these items. Since that is unlikely, due to the old adage that there is a sucker born every minute, this means they won’t stop with the RNG boxes and the threads will continue.

What problem?.. they get more money, people buy them by the 100’s showing them that there is an audience that loves these kind of things… it’s not a problem from their point of view…

Of course, it is a problem for us that hate the RNG system for that, I was looking forward to get some of those weapons (had already bought some gems with gold just in case price goes up with this), but I’ll wait until the inevitable “bought 100 (or other large number) boxes, here are the contents” posts here and on reddit to see what the actual chances are.

At least I’ll get the dragon helmet, and I’ll try for the shattered wings as well..

On reddit it was posted that someone from anet has said that the chances for tickets to drop from RNG has been raised for this event.

I think the positive PR for once for Anet would help tremendously considering how badly they are talked about on other MMO sites. Also I would be curious to know if hundreds of thousands of people buying a skin for $10 is worth less than a couple thousand people spending their paychecks for 2 weeks.

I think profit would be a wash and the PR would help their image greatly. Just my 2 cents.

Oh i can’t wait for the kittenstorms, name calling and people spending 200 quid on boxes because they want everything right now when you can get them without spending money at all.

There’s a substantial difference when you compare RNG boxes to real world gambling.
When you gamble in real life you’re usually paying for a chance to get more money or just winning something that may or may not cost you more than what you spent for your ticket.

But there’s no other way to acquire these skin outside of gambling in gw2.
I can hope to win a car but I can also save up and by said car in real life.
Doesn’t matter how much gold or gems I have in gw2, there’s no way I’ll be able to get one of those skins at a fixed price. Might cost me more than I can afford, I might end up with nothing at all. That’s just stupid.

Well, looks like yet another event that I am not going to get any new skins from. So sick and tired of all this gamble/rng junk. Worst part is, I knew they were going to do it yet again, regardless of all the complaints that happen every time they introduce these things. Yet I hoped that they wouldn’t, but guess it was just a lost cause. Anet really doesn’t care what we think. They only care about money now.

Come to think of it, I might just end up quitting this game. I’m not sure what happened to the original GW2, but this is not it. It’s become an rng cashcow farmfest now. I have just lost all hope that this game will become something amazing.

I recall hearing the drop rate was going to be generous on claim tickets from the rich dragon coffers. I guess 2% is generous compared to 1%?

Not complaining or anything but in 17 boxes i got nothing besides food not even fireworks.

Again, it’s ambiguous, but it reads like a rich coffer guarantees. Any actual experiences? Or maybe just a dev to quiet it.

Actual experience here. 80 rich dragon coffers: 3 tickets, 1 mini, and the rest was candy. The rich dragon coffers don’t guarantee anything except lots of candy and disappointment it seems.

I am fairly sure they could make more by selling straight skins and then giving out tickets to unlock infinite use skins from the chests… that way people will still want to rng for the skins… and those of us who would like to buy more than one can get more than one

400 regular coffers boxes = 35-40g, i got 8 mini pets and 1 ticket… so ye i made back around 10g and got a ticket just from buying the regular coffers off the TP.

Well, I know the plural of anecdote isn’t statistics, but for what it’s worth I’m in a very large guild and I know of one person that bought a skin off the TP (Braham’s shield, 600 gems worth)… while just logging at noon for a few mins there were 3 people on guild chat that bought 25 rich coffers each (6000 gems worth total), one of them got a ticket and planned to buy more later if he didn’t have luck with the regular ones, the other two didn’t get a ticket, one said he wasn’t going to buy more, the other one was planning on buying some more later to get a ticket, so from my very limited point of view, I’d say RNG sells a LOT more than just selling skins.

And note that this is after people already had experience with the flame and frost weapons and the southsun crates, so there’s really no excuse of “I didn’t knew I could get the boxes and not get a ticket” by now.

It pays the bills for them.

I personally would like to see them stop investing so much effort into temporary content and work on other things. I was just watching FFXIV trailer and Aion stuff and I’m just thinking they’re armors and monsters looks waaaaayyy cooler that GW2’s. It makes me sad.

i buy 150 rich chests and got no tickets it’s useless to spent gold and money to get them

Here’s the clarification: If you’re dumb enough to buy coffers then, bend over and prepare for anal kitten . Not into anal kitten ? Don’t buy the stupid coffers.

i opened around 85 rich coffers, no ticket, skin, or wing drop. these “higher” chances from getting them from rich coffers are extremely off. i know random is random though what exactly are the chances of getting them from regular/rich coffers?
