Your favourite thing about Dragon Bash?
~ Whips ~ City Minigames ~ City Jumping Puzzles ~
Right now, I am loving the regular wings on my female human thief. Perhaps the shattered ones will be even better.
Well, its a free event, and any free stuff is already great. I like the holograms, more so after they made them tougher. The fun we had (most of us, the ones that didnt have to stay up late) waiting for the fireworks was cool.
I like the pinatas also… felt there were a few too few of them considering we had to hit 150, but with 8 characters I didnt have to wait for respawn. Those with only one character found them more irritating.
And with Dragon Ball… I finally found a minigame I like. I have always disliked side games ever since GTA VC and earlier, but I like Dragon ball enough to play even though it doesn’t count towards the wings.
My thoughts on Dragon Bash are mostly positive. The only downsides are the cost of Moa racing and a few other small things I won’t go into here.
So far the event has only frustrated me.
1) All the achievements take outrageous amounts of repetition to get. The pinatas, fireworks, oh good lord… and competing with people to hit the holograms, just love that stuff.
2) The oh so lovely RNG chest/crate/coffer is once again here. Someone in LA showing his 6 jade weapons and I don’t have a single one. I wish they could at least sell them on trading post…
3) The wings… Why does everything still have these SAB skins? I don’t like holograms.
Pinatas-Only in LA, Put some in other cities. does not drop anything but candy.
Holograms-Why can’t they be other colors?
Holo Projectors-OK but only thing in open world to remind players of the festival.
Dragon Coffers-RNG but ok because they drop a lot.
Rich Dragon Coffer-Scam nothing good in them if no ticket.
Hard work does not guarantee a skin ticket.
I enjoy getting coffers off of everything I fight in large quantities. Even though I know there is unlikely to be anything worthwhile in them it’s still fun to get them because for every one there is the chance at something cool.

That i got my Jade weapon ticket on the 3rd coffer that dropped about 5 minutes after the patch went live. I’m usually very unlucky. Never have gotten 1 exotic drop with over 1000 hours played, or any weapon tickets from any of the holiday events.
I haven’t done PvP at all in this game, but I’m enjoying the Dragon Ball. I already have 10 games played and 5 wins so I think I should actually be able to get the 20 wins achievement !
The best thing about Dragon Bash is getting enough achievements to be done with Dragon Bash.
The detail in general that went into decorating Lion’s Arch. Each time I go there, I keep finding new little details that I love. The paintings on the ground, the steam covers, the new little things they’ve placed around LA like the statues.
The other thing I’m liking is having more to do for my third 100% explore character as they explore the map. It can be a bit tedious doing it for the third time, but getting coffers from drops and having things like that to hunt help up the variety a bit, and the possibility of getting a ticket just by mapping is nice.
The changes to LA and the little paper dragons.

I agree with the OP that Anet has really done a lot right with this event, and it’s worth letting them know the things we appreciate:
- The fact that the coffers drop from any mob, even WvW enemies, and fairly frequently.
- The free Minis gift.
- Dragon Ball is a fun pvp mode (coming from someone who doesn’t like spvp).
- The fact that the Gift of the Dragon Bash gives you a light, medium, and heavy helm, meaning you don’t have to pick just one character to have it.
- And of course all the art assets like the LA decoration and fireworks are neat, especially the Mystic Forge.
So thanks, Anet. In spite of all the constant complaining on the forums, your players do notice and care about the good stuff.
Maguuma
Oh I forgot, the free mini pack for those who bought gems… nice freebie!
I’ve been having a blast with it. I think my favorite moment was test firing a launcher in LA and seeing a guardian symbol in the sky. I daydream about fireworks that make pictures instead of spheres!
I also love the jade weapon skins (I wish they were easier to get) and was super lucky to get a ticket that means my Canthan-descent necromancer now has a family heirloom staff. I’m hoping for 3 or 4 more tickets before it’s done (not expecting even one more, though). I really couldn’t stand the F&F or Sclerite weapons, finally there are pretty ones.
The pinata effect is glorious.
I had a lot of fun on Wednesday running around Kessex bashing holograms. It was calm and zenlike. Then on Thursday I was doing some with friends. We paused by one in NE Kessex because we were done, and found that it kept spawning now and then while we engaged in impromptu ridiculous RP with a random charr (Gwen, you rock). That made it not camping, but socializing with occasional loot.
Our guild will have a fireworks watching party this weekend (more RP chances!).
I continue to love playing this game. I just looked at some gear updates for my previous MMO and shuddered. GW2 has wonderful art and clothes I want to wear!
i love the 0.00000000000000000000000000000000000001% drop chance of weapon tickets from regular coffers <3. Anet is so cute

This.
Pinatas and firework are a nice idea but doing this a hundred times is …..
Firework is really bad due too camera angle. It’s not really possible to look into the sky.
Achievements that does not count (Dragon Ball). wtf
Let this be the one thread for nice things, please keep criticism to the other threads. Thank you.
;)
Thanks.

Art is good, coffers are plentiful and Dragon Ball is fun.
You can /sit or /sleep to see the fireworks better.
Pros:
Holograms are fun to hunt and kill
Pinatas and Zaitaffys are easy to acquire while playing and socializing
Jade Skins are awesome!
Fireworks had some nice effects
LA looks amazing
Minis are fun (thanks for the gift) and easy to acquire
Cons:
Holograms are annoying to compete for
Wish there were more things to buy with Zaitaffy
Jade Skins are sooo hard to get
Fireworks should have been bigger, broader
Moa Racing
Haven’t Dragonballed yet. So we’ll see.

I got a ticket, so everything is awesome now. I take back all the negative stuff I said.
I hated the Moa racing at first because of the cost! When I finally got some wins and realized how much money you get from those tickets, I started to like it more.
Of the 8g I spent on Moa racing, I probably made 6.5g (3 1sts and multiple 2nds)back from winning. Not bad in my book.
It’s a medical condition, they say its terminal….
Favorite things:
1. Wings. Absolutely love them on my Charr.
2. Dragonball. What’s funny is that I hated it at first, but after a couple games, it got real fun. Gonna miss this one when it’s gone.
1. I like the pinatas and the fireworks.
2. I actually had a pretty fun time getting the 20 Dragon Bash participations, though a bit sad they don’t count towards the meta (though I suspect they’ll fix that tomorrow or before it’s all said and done).
3. I think the holoprojectors across the world were fun, though the execution could have used a little work. I got a little extra socializing in because of them.
4. I like the holowings. I bought a set for 15g and made up about half of that selling boxes on the TP. I’m going to enjoy the shattered set as well, but can’t decide if I’m going to also hoard those on my main or let an alt have them.
5. Waiting around for fireworks the first morning was another fun time to socialize.
6. Stocking up on Dragonfly Cupcakes with my candy.
7. The fact that boxes drop at a pretty good rate from just any old mob around the world.
I’m probably missing something.
To be perfectly honest, I still haven’t found anything I liked about that event. Worst event ever so far.
- I never really noticed those small paper dragons, probably because I was royally annoyed about the obscene amount of pinatas one has to grind for that achievement, so I never really payed attention. Will try to pay attention next time, still lots of pinatas to grind!
- Dragon Ball is kitten. Went through the torture of completing 20 rounds of it, only to find out it doesn’t count towards the shattered wings achievement. Well done ANet. (Not!)
- Didn’t even bother with that Moa racing after reading forums and map chat.
- Killed tons of holographic kittens, still haven’t finished that achievement. Mindless grinding again, holy kitten.
- Opened chests, never found anything remotely exciting.
- Did lots of fireworks to finish that achievement. Enjoyed the first couple of fireworks I fired. After the 50th, not so much anymore. Mindless grinding, again.
- Was excited to witness the big LA fireworks. Nobody really seemed to know when that stuff was gonna happen, the schedule they posted obviously was a lie or something, overflow maps seem to not get that firework at all? Whatever, in the end I afk’ed in LA (finally managed to not be put into overflow) for like 3 hours straight, tabbing out to desktop watching LCS stream. Got the achievement when I tabbed back in at least, but missed all the fun.
Utterly disappointed.
And there is only one thing we say to Death: ‘Not today’.
I like the white little dragons that fly around… I also like the music they used in that trailer, shame it isnt in the game :’(.
I really liked the fireworks and that pvp mimi game, but i think the balls you throw could have more of a visual impact.
I didnt fo moa races so far becuase i avoid gambling at all costs. I like gettig little boxes from everything bt i never open them, i just sellthem. I like the new mystic firge… And all the other decorations, i jus wish there was some special music in lions arch.
Cheers,
Alissah

I second this, every single point! Not everything was done right, but I enjoyed it (before coming to the forums xD). And I absolutely love that the enthusiasm of the creators shines through in the decorations. I mean, they even turned the mystic forge into a dragon!
I can actually make some gold on Moa Race while semi-afk eating and watching videos.
“Go Motti!”
I know I’m probably the minority, but I genuinely enjoyed Moa Racing.
I know it’s basically RNG in a fancy giftwrap, but hey, that’s the whole point of gambling. You don’t go to a casino or horse races and scream around: “I don’t like the chances here, give me something where I will always win.” I think it’s fun to bet with and/or against your friends and guild members and see who’s the luckier one and I don’t mind having lost 1 or 2 gold in it overall.

Not criticizing or anything, but remember those “old days” when getting the 20s for the trait manual was hard?

Yeah, I know what you mean and I agree that it wasn’t particularly newcomer-friendly. I’m arguning from the perspective of someone who’s been in endgame for quite a while now and sees Moa racing as a welcome addition to it. I do however understand the frustration of people who are relatively new to the game and were forced to spend literally all their money on it in order to get the Dragon Bash achievment. I think the way racing has been integrated into the game could have been handled better, nonetheless, standing for itself, it was fun and I hope it stays in the game.
Anyone kittening here seriously stfu, their are plenty of other threads to do that, take your miserable kitten to those and leave us who actually like being positive and like dragon bash to enjoy it with each other

Today’s instance (Dead End) is beautiful. Just beautiful. I love it.

The holographic dragon pretty awesome…
I really like dragonball…but other players (NOT Anet), have spoiled it…
Fireworks…
The wing back items…
Dragon coffers dropping in WvW…
Also, I got a weapon skin ticket!
(edited by Meglobob.8620)
The story related stuff – which started yesterday. I like the cutscenes and voiced acted dialoques in instances.
Today’s instance was pretty awesome, really nice artwork. Also, the food! I’m use to buying my MF and lifesteal food for multiple silver, but now I can get it for a fraction of the cost.
The drop rate of the coffers is also really nice. Since they are still selling for around 2 silver, I can make some decent cash leveling my alts.
The wings are overused right now – but I can’t blame people, they are gorgeous! Animation on the shatterer version is a little wonky, but I actually got use to it and dont mind it so much.
If they need to keep in RNG boxes going forward, I hope it’s like this rather than southsun. Overall i feel it was a step forward. Even if the over all drop rate of the skins is the same, it feels much more rewarding. If they put in a little pseudo RNG to help out the guys who buy 5000 coffers and still get jack, I wouldn’t have a problem with them at all.
The problems with the event were relatively minor, simply compounded by bad communication. If anet is able to communicate more fully, quickly, and accurately when issues arise in future, i think the inevitable bugs will be much less of an issue.
Best thing is it will be over soon and Arenanet will learn from their RNG mistakes for next event….
Dragonband
I’ll start by saying I hate the ‘click-on-stuff’ joke achievements…
but the cutscene with Dalaqua and Logan…there’s my Arenanet. That was friggin GREAT; something between Dragnet and a pulp fiction novel.
(edited by Voltar.8574)
My favorite aspect thus far has been the decorations around Lion’s Arch. The city looks really nice with the paper dragon kites in the sky, the painted dragons on the bridges and manholes, ect. Also, the Mystic Forge looks completely awesome (and I especially like that the tail of the dragon comes out of the ground some distance away across the two bridges to the south).
The art team that works on the holiday events does spectacular work. Every single holiday event thus far has ended up with Lion’s Arch looking fantastic.
The LA decorations (manholes were a nice touch) Dragon Ball and the Marjory Cut-Scene
The Firework Show ;P
My favorite: The Dragon’s Fortune firework from the MTX, seeing a firework in the shape of a dragon fly around is awesome!
Nothing. I would’ve wanted Anet to focus on fixing the host of issues that plague the game instead of adding more things.
The bar cut-scene. Hands down the best one so far.
Salvage 4 Profit + MF Guide – http://tinyurl.com/l8ff6pa
The introduction of Marjory Delaqua in that classy noir-themed cutscene. I really want to see her again in another event after Dragon Bash ends.
Being able to throw up at Zomorros. That’s the highlight for me.
I liked the story and the bar scene was great
The decoration of LA
The free gift with the minies
The tons of coffers (hopefully i will get a ticket for a nice weapon skin)
The click 150 pinatas, use 100 fireworks and light 50 effigies, kill 300 minions achievements was the best part of this update, so fun and exciting.. Thanks ArenaNet!!
Edit: I forgot the RNG boxes, they were fun too. I love it
The wings I got two seconds ago because the dragon bash experience changed from 10 to 8
- the bar cutscene – painterly style is what made me fall in love with GW2, it’s finally back again
- the trailer with the awesome song
what I would have done different:
- give each player a personal holo-spawn. The loot from his spawn belongs to him but others can spawn theirs afterwards and everyone can help. Cooperation, not competition.
- not as much grindy achievements. Anet really needs some creativity in achievement-design.
