I’m very impressed as well. The cinematic was fantastic, and the look of the destroyed Lion’s Arch is great. Big fan of the burning bridges in particular, the effects really work nicely. Love the chaotic feel of it. For now it’s a lot of fun, although I’m sure I won’t be doing it constantly by the time the next update approaches. As far as rewards go, the new backpiece is cool for those that enjoy that kind of style, but I’m not really into that kind of aesthetic. Otherwise, it doesn’t seem like there’s really much to work for outside of getting all the achievements and possibly the potions from the lost heirloom collection, although 250 heirlooms seems a bit steep for something so simple.

Overall, I think it’s a great release. I also wanted to mention how great the refugee camp and revamped Vigil Keep came out. Feels like a totally different area, and I love that the Keep is more opened up now. Makes it way more impressive. Looking forward to going back and spending some time soaking in the ambient dialogue and talking with the NPCs.

Do you get tired of being so frustrated? Your point can be applied to you as well. Just overlook their complaints and continue to enjoy the game. Their complaints aren’t towards you but towards ArenaNet, so why stress yourself over them voicing their dislike of the content? If the majority of the customers do indeed like this content then Anet will not modify the content much, perhaps sprinkling a few additional things for the minority but nothing that will jeopardize your amusement.

I love how you guys don’t enjoy the game you are playing. Do you know why people usually play games? to enjoy them

You would be correct a few years back, but I have noticed a startling shift in the mentality of gamers. A growing number treat video games as chores or jobs, forcing themselves to go through content they despise for trivial things such as achievement points. It is this mentality that has caused me to actively avoid joining Guilds, another reason is the person usually just spams me a guild invite expecting I will eventually succumb to their persistence (fortunately didn’t encounter anyone that persistent when I was playing Guild Wars 2), and participating in group content.

Did you even play the event? You basically split up into 3 mini zergs (or 1 massive one that ignores the other 2 if you’re unlucky) and you mindlessly spam abilities on HP whales and pray you have enough people with you to finish the event. Then you go around other zergs and mash AoEs, all the while praying you are lucky enough to be in an overflow server that knows to split off into groups.

I really like this addition to the living story. I like the idea that we aren’t fighting for Lion’s Arch, we are just trying to cut losses. It gives a sense that Scarlet is much stronger than we thought she would be. She literally wrecked all of us.

As for the actual event, I like how the main event is rescuing citizens around the city, and there are various subevents i COULD attend if I wanted to. It rewards the MMO style of playing. You could travel in small groups, you could zerg, you can run solo and find citizens. You aren’t forced to do anything.

I know one group I played with started to split in to many smaller groups and spread throughout the city to look for citizens, then regrouped when an event occurred. ANet did this very well. Props to them. And the ruined LA looks amazing.

Well, I didn’t encounter any bugs. That’s a HUGE improvement over past LS updates.

The good:
The dialogues are nice, new areas are nice, cutscene is ok.

The bad:
Main content is a boring zerg fest, new armor released to gem store and blue looks weird.

Overall I’d say it’s one of the better LS updates. But that’s not saying much.

The cutscene was fun and Lion’s Arch looks awesome all smashed up, but I’m really not a fan of the event design. It just comes across as a glorified champion farm and there’s nothing particularly enriching about that. Feels like a step back after the Marionette events. I imagine it’s great for loot kittens, but I personally just find it banal.

Hopefully the final LS update provides something a bit more cerebral.

The cinematic was short but very well done, even if it was only one. The aesthetics were great; Anet did a fantastic job with the destruction of Lion’s Arch. It really feels like all hell has broken loose and that we’re truly in the middle of some kind of blitzkrieg.

Little details like being able to rescue and revive citizens and seeing some of the more notable NPCs in evacuation camps while others were…“not present” – adds a nice touch and reminds us that things really aren’t going to be like they used to.

However the gameplay is another tactless zergfest and collect-athon, which is disappointing. It would’ve been cool if Lion’s arch was split into sections, encouraging people to work in larger groups. I was hoping we’d get to do something to that giant drill that Scarlet stationed in the bay too. We didn’t get a lot of story from this either which is strange, considering that this is supposed to be the big turning point in the LS. I’m hoping we get to experience both in the next patch.

Tower of Nightmares was fun. The Marionette was fun. Both of them required teamwork and different game play methods instead of devaluing to a mindless zerg throughout their course – this patch doesn’t. I really hope the next and final update to this LS is something akin to those two patches.

Overall, great presentation but yeah, laggy zergfests are getting old.

Edit: Another thing, I was also really disappointed that the Tengu were just… completely forgotten and not implemented into this event. It would’ve been a great way to introduce them into the LS, seeing as they’re… right next to the kitten city, but whatever. Just having them fight side by side around the entrance to their gate would’ve been cool, but y’know… whatever, it can pass.

I wonder what you complain about zergs. Seriously, if you are in the war, would you prefer to walk alone or in a small group, or in a massive army with tanks, bombs and a great amount of success?

I was so far in all 3 positions at the event and the zerg is still the best and funniest solution. There are to many Vets and Champs around which are slow to get with just a small group.

Also consider the definition of “MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER Online Game” for a moment, thanks. I don’t want to enjoy those events alone or in small groups, if you want to, then please play Final Fantasy (not the mmo)

Because other than the overthetopridiculous villan, I actually like the game. But for me, the fact that she succeeds attacking Lion’s Arch means I’ll be playing a lot less.

Just find it annoying that a power rangers bad guy can do what actual well written foes could not. Then again, it’s typical of the villan type…we all pretend they’re actually a threat while we wait for some better show to come up.

No-one is a citizen of Lion’s Arch right now, it was destroyed. He should be free to do whatever he wants outside of Lion’s Arch (can all the other former Lion’s Arch refugees be conscripted under threat of execution?). Even if he were, he’s not in Lion’s Arch any more, how can they enforce their laws on him? Isn’t it out of character for Kiel to use legal technicalities to control people? She seemed to have a problem with the consortium doing that exact thing yet she herself isn’t above doing it to a Lion’s Arch refugee.

He’s still going to profit from all of this and I suspect he would have helped regardless of what Kiel did (he says on more than one occasion, what’s good for Lion’s Arch is good for him).

Times like this shouldn’t be times to look at money, best he can do is document everything and see if he can get his money after the whole ordeal is over.

I’m not saying what the Lionguard are doing is right (I liked Gnashblade’s comment on them being useless, because to me that’s what they are) but I’m not a lawyer and even if I were, I’m not schooled in Tyria’s laws so I don’t know what kind of rule they’re using, but it seems that the Lionguard are in charge of the refugee camp where Gnashblade is currently based, he could probably run but if they catch him he’ll be shot for being a deserter, if he got away he’d never be able to set foot in Lion’s Arch again even if it got rebuilt, and I guess he just doesn’t want to risk that.

That said, the snotty little Asura kind of kittened me off.

Any plan that involves dead quaggans is, by design, foolproof. I’m an unmitigated genius!

Actually, a solo player can contribute more to the success of the map than anyone in a zerg. There are LOTS of city dwellers that need to be “motivated” to run for the gates. One person covering the larger of these clusters (like where the Ogre recue spawns) can rescue 30-40 people all by themselves. That’s way more than the zerglings accomplish when you divide up their rescue credit.

Why come into a positive thread and start saying negative things? Yes we can ignore the negative people but its just bad manners and disrespectful to the OP. He was trying to give his positive feed back. I understand people are not going to like aspects of the game and that’s fine, however make a different thread to give your reasons.

+1 to you OP.

Because I can just like you can come into a thread filled with criticism and give your opinion, or even sprout gibberish just so long as it doesn’t technically break the code of conduct. Also the manner you presented your comment is actually more disrespectful to the original poster than simply ignoring the comments of those who dislike the content, I do not believe they intended to encourage this behavior with their original post but I could be wrong in that regard. Also you would of said the same thing on their threads despite the fact it was made to present criticism to Anet.

I know a few GW1 vets that can’t even be bribed into playing GW2 anymore and they own the game.

What was the bribe?

I wonder what you complain about zergs. Seriously, if you are in the war, would you prefer to walk alone or in a small group, or in a massive army with tanks, bombs and a great amount of success?

Yet a Zerg isn’t comprised of bombs, tanks, and great amount of success. it comprised entirely out of infantry which can be obliterated by Scarlet’s airships if she truly wanted to.

Also consider the definition of “MASSIVE MULTIPLAYER Online Game” for a moment, thanks. I don’t want to enjoy those events alone or in small groups, if you want to, then please play Final Fantasy (not the mmo)

Consider the full label “Massive Multiplayer Role Playing Game” and we may be getting closer to a understanding between both groups…but I doubt it. This is why some people have problems with the Zerg content, as it doesn’t fit an RPG in any description.

I could do with less zerging, but the art, writing and overall release are par for the course for ArenaNet — which is to say, awesome.

It also seems surprisingly light on bugs, which is pretty amazing given the scope of the release.

While I’m not thrilled about certain questionable maneuvers involving gems, the talented people who worked so hard to produce this release deserve serious credit for bringing us one of the most epic chapters of our story so far.

Kudos.

Well that does make it more interesting to be honest. I think guerilla type warfare is a nice change from the zerging.
