I have set aside enough Blade Shards to craft the Tempered (Ascended) Spinal Blades and still have over 1,000 and counting.

Is there any other use for these things, or should I just ditch them? I’d rather save the bag space for other things if they’re worthless.

As far as I know, they are only used for the Spinal Blades. So unless you plan on using them to make the ascended piece for alts, destroy them for extra space.

I am so jealous. See, I need more than 12000 of them. I don’t think I will get that many though.

Keep then for a bit. Just in case a new use comes for them. Or they might become sellable to merchants at least. Better safe than sorry.

Its up to you. But why would they let the four pieces be tradable but not the scraps… Keep them for a few weeks.

… Keep them for a few weeks.

Yeah, I guess that’s good advice. I’ll keep them banked at least through the end of the next living story step.

I know numerous players, who want to craft several back pieces, and I know just as many (myself included) that have no need or desire to craft one. Simple solution… make blade shards tradeable. There are so many surplus shards that their cost will be low. I can make a few coins, and my friends can make all the back pieces they want.

I’m OK with them not be tradeable, to be honest. It shows that anyone who is wearing the back took part in the event, which is cool.

What I was hoping to hear was that they could be bartered for some other form of currency (heirlooms, etc.) or they could be flushed in the Mystic Toilet for a chance at something pretty.

I’m starting to get to this point. I’ve made 1 ascended already, and 1 exotic. I really don’t need to make anymore, but I’m up to 3 stacks of blades as I hunt down the Heirlooms. I hope they will give some other use for these blade shards, even if it’s just trading them in for little things.

It’s highly likely they will be used in some form for the colored backpieces in the next patch.

I am making a couple extra exotic backpieces, as the exotic is account, not soul-bound, so that it can be shared between my alts.

I think the opposite. I’m of the same mind as Unknownhero. I want them to be tradeable. That way both sides can profit (win/win). Those who don’t want to make the backpieces can make some gold, while those of us who plan on making several (especially with the 3 other colors, if/when they become available) can get more without having to continually farm the event (though even if we buy with gold, the gold still needs to be farmed ) or even build them later on after the event. The blueprint pieces are tradeable, why aren’t/can’t the blade pieces?

I thought the ascended version is as well. Its not soulbound till you choose a stat combo, correct? (haven’t finished one yet, since ascended mats are one per day ><)

I’d like them to be bankable in your collections tab. I have enough to create 3 more ascended versions for my alts but I’m going to hold on the extras just in case you need them for something else, because you never know.

Considering that the blueprint recipes are tradable (meaning that players who join in months down the track could still start trying to build their own Spinal Blades backpiece), I think that Blade Scraps will become tradable in the future, or at least obtainable in some other way. I’ve got enough saved up to craft the Ascended version in the future, but I’m holding on to my excess for now too.
