Yeah I was always more partial to Kiel but now I must say Evon is looking a lot more reasonable.

With Kiel conscripting Evon, I’m sure she means well (and probably sees that it’s the only way to get him to help the war effort without him profiting immensely), it still really comes across as a big “kitten you” from her.

Yeah, except that Evon also apparently guessed the attack would come and did nothing to help prepare for it, not even secretly or on his own. He’s also not wasting any time badmouthing her and Magnus in particular over it while they’re trying to at least do something about the refugees.

Still…the Council’s to blame for not preparing more adequately in the end.

Perhaps that was Anet’s objective all along. Tron is the personal nemesis we been searching for, cleverly hidden in plain sight. He has endeared himself to so many, only to crush their spirits with the revelation of his true programming. Ah I’m just kidding the little golem incapable of being a nemesis.

Well, the Lionguard need supplies, Evon has them, and they don’t have the wealth to purchase everything they need in the emergency, so Kiel’s order was pretty reasonable given the situation.

Though, now Evon’s doing something awesome with Heal-o-Tron for free[despite it probably ending in his ultimate profit], hooking him up with some Hero-Tron gadgets and gismos.

This. He is badmouthing them, using the disaster for his own gain. You talk to a survivor in the bloodtide coast camp and he outright says “Watch, Evon Gnashblade will use this to drive everybody else out of business.”

Yeah, if you talked to him before he mentioned LA was weak and it’s defenses need reinforced, but outside of that you NEVER saw him doing anything. Kiel on the other hand, was trying to convince the Council to bolster the defenses for a while, especially after the investigations. Even after the Council went “Ha ha, Scarlet won’t attack us so soon!” Kiel worked to do what she could.

As said, Kiel is out there fighting (She uses her airship to evac Canach and the Sheriff), Evon is whining and badmouthing her in Vigil Keep. Ingame I saw somebody go “He’d have protected LA, he’d be fighting.” and I instantly went to reply with “Nope, he’d be out here sipping Tea in safety.”

Evon has ALWAYS been a bit suspicious to me, not to the point of evil but he’s putting himself first over everybody else. If he truly was so awesome, he wouldn’t be grumbling about ‘being robbed blind’ and instead be donating those weapons and armor willingly.

Heard ingame somebody calling Kiel trashy and more fitting for human activist groups, but they never once actually gave reason for thinking that.

edit: Even him agreeing to give Heal-o-tron the upgraded chassis and projector comes off as a “I’m doing this for me. This might impress/get notice from the council, so yeah we can figure this out.”

Even after the Council went “Ha ha, Scarlet won’t attack us so soon!” Kiel worked to do what she could.

At the risk of being coldhearted, I have to ask: Why should he?

You see, we didn’t elect him to the Council. Nor did we elect Kiel. Our votes influenced who the Zepherites would make their trade agreement with, and that’s it. It was the Council that chose who the new member would be, they simply decided to say that the one that one the trade agreement would likely be the one they chose.

So, not only did Kiel (and the rest of the Council, as she was working under their orders) step into his professional area and swipe some business out from under him, they then declared that Kiel was the one best suited for the Council position. They made their choice, clear as day.

Kiel’s shown that she’ll gladly take credit for other people’s actions. Evon would have to be nuts to spend his own resources trying to prepare Lion’s Arch for the attack, knowing that it would be seen as a victory for Kiel in the end and he’d be forgotten. There’s something to be said for letting them fail and face the blame. Unfortunately, Kiel’s now drafted Evon, and is basically robbing him under threat of execution and confiscation of not only his own wealth, but everything in the trading posts. And she’s taking not just his money, but also anything she wants from the market. So, that sword or helm you’re trying to sell? Hers now. He coughs it up if asked for, or he’s executed.

I very much doubt that Kiel or the Captains’ Council will be willing to pay him back for any of it (much less all of it) when this is all over. I also wonder how well YOUR characters would take it if they were told they have to give up their wealth to Lion’s Arch or be executed, just because the leaders of the city were so chronically stupid.

I don’t think you can really blame Evon for not doing more to bolster LA’s defenses. To upgrade any defenses he’d have to go through the council and seeing as how Kiel, a member of the council, couldn’t even convince them it was a good idea, Evon probably wouldn’t even be given an audience. Plus he’s still rather bitter about the election and probably just doesn’t want much to do with the council these days.

It’s a shame Kiel is antagonizing Evon with this conscription business, despite their history they seem to be playing the part of “only sane man” in regards to the rest of the council. I think if they were both on the council LA would be a lot better off.

When has Kiel taken credit from the players? I’ve done every living story and I don’t recall seeing that once.

Instead of acting as if this is a vendetta against Evon, why not view it in the sense of retaking LA. Again, if he was so awesome, why isn’t he going about how they did nothing to prepare, but here he is, outfitting the Lionguard and other soldiers freely and of his own accord, doing his part to help retake the city.

Instead he’s sitting there kittening and whining.

I don’t think you can really blame Evon for not doing more to bolster LA’s defenses. He could’ve been wandering the streets warning the citizens, telling them to arm themselves and be prepared incase an attack came. Instead he paced around his business musing and whining about Kiel winning the election. Not once was he publicly shown to speak out toward the Council that I saw.

It’s only antagonizing given how he basically came across as refusing to help the lionguard retake the city and seemed more then happy to sit in his corner, badmouth and whine about Kiel and Magnus, and do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING productive.

All in all, Kiel is actually out there doing something with Magnus, Evon is sitting around whining.

In terms of politics, who looks better? The person out there wading the muck to help with cleaning the rivers, or the person who sits on the shoreline going on and on about “He warned them this would happen. kitten idiots never listened to me!” but otherwise doing nothing.

Also the fact in the election set, Evon goes to the massive piles of gold and loot, he keeps them for himself. Kiel sees them, she sends it back to LA to be returned to the rightful owners.

Overall, this kitten is blamed on the council refusing to listen. Even then, Evon isn’t doing much to actually help out.

Your post basically illustrates why. Someone who is deserving of a leadership position should care about the common good of the people who entrust him. This shows that he cares more about himself than the good of the people of Lion’s Arch and that makes him a terrible potential leader. A good leader is always someone who genuinely cares about the people, whether he is in a position of leadership over them, or he isn’t.

Keil is just your typical democrat, spend other people’s money to make yourself look good!

Kiel is the one who’s out there killing the threats to our nations. Evon puts business above the freedom and welfare of the people. I don’t see how you could really compare Kiel to a typical American democrat.

Exactly what I’ve been saying and thinking. He’s using this for himself, nothing more. He could give a rat’s kitten about LA or anybody in it as long as he isn’t making money(Making money, then he cares so much as the profit margin is). The other merchants know this. I think you guys are largely forgetting the premise upon which politics in LA has always been founded since it’s rebuilding: mercantilism and piracy. They do good things for the city because it, in-turn, benefits them. It’s why LA has a bank, and why it has a lot of things that we now take for granted (lore-wise). Of course Evon would be self-serving as a leader on the council, he bloody well should be. In looking out for himself, he’d have fought to look out for everyone else because that would be in his best financial interests. Because he’s not on the council, though, things are very different and he is neither obligated to support the city nor should he care. He is trying to tear Kiel down for her failing and wants to get himself on the council so he can turn the financial distress Kiel is causing him into financial gain, which simultaneously would help Lion’s Arch out a lot. It’s a whole different world in LA compared to real world politics, and to treat them or the leaders the same is naive (don’t be naive!).

To be fair to Evon, how exactly was he supposed to do anything to protect Lion’s Arch without being on the council? “Don’t mind me, Councilor Kiel, I’m just installing my Asuran megalasers and Charr cannons on my buildings, where they will be crewed by my employees/soldiers. I know you don’t trust me, but I swear its purely a self defense measure for when that kitten Scarlet attacks. What are you giving me that look for? No, really, I swear I’m not planning on using them to overthrow the Council. I want to be on the Council, not run a revolution. No, stop, you don’t need to call the guards…”

Personally, though, I blame the Asura and the Pact for all this. Scarlet has a fleet of giant airships, which we’ve broken dozens of and salvaged the parts. Scarlet has giant mechas, which we’ve broken dozens of and salvaged the parts. Scarlet even apparently has orbital laser cannons. Why haven’t they developed any actual counter measures? Why wasn’t the Pact fleet standing by to engage hers? Where are our clanky tanks? And where is our air cover?!

I don’t think that’s actually true. Evon was at least curious about the idea until HoT said it didn’t have any money, at which point Evon told it to shove off. HoT then tries begging, explaining in more detail what he wanted, to which Evon says “So you want something that can take it, but not dish it out?” When HoT says yes to this, Evon goes, “Heh, good luck.” I interpret that to mean “Good luck finding something like that”, or “Good luck getting it.” There wasn’t any sign that Evon was giving anything to HoT at all.

Of course, it’s kind of a given that we’re soon going to see Hero-Tron in action, but I get the feeling that it’s just going to swipe the chassis from Evon when he’s not looking. :P

Of course, it’s kind of a given that we’re soon going to see Hero-Tron in action, but I get the feeling that it’s just going to swipe the chassis from Evon when he’s not looking. :P

The last line by Evon sounds like he got convinced to give o-Tron some defense gear, commenting that o-Tron’s acts would possibly convince the Lionguard and Captain’s Council. It sounded to me like Evon was scheming “and I will be the one who made o-Tron’s fight possible! I deserve some benefits, too!”

Also, I hope o-Tron dies. I hate him. Doesn’t anyone else? Please say I’m not alone in this…

Then again, I hate quaggans too.

And krait need more love. They’re just lashing out for being hated all the time! Like pythons!

Dear ANet writers,
Stop treating GW2 as a single story. Each Season and expansion should be their own story.

….
Still…the Council’s to blame for not preparing more adequately in the end.

Personally, though, I blame the Asura and the Pact for all this. ….

I’d blame the horrible writing for it all, with the strawman politicians and the not thinking anything through stuff.

I agree with all these things.

You have gotten what you paid for, all that remains is biweekly gemshop pushing.

I think quaggans and the running gag o-Tron are sort of polarising. Some like them (I often see someone following o-Tron from Evon to the Seraph) and others dislike them. The quggan are kind of like Ewoks, Jarjar Binks or the chipmunk scene in the latest Indiana Jones move, they exist to be cute or funny . I think their “story” doesn’t require much thinking (it’s not attached to the richer lore of Tyria), it’s easy to follow and they have quick resolutions so players not interested in the the richer lore of Tyria can get some satisfaction from them. I just shrug, remember that just like there are armour sets aimed at players that aren’t me, there will be stories and gags aimed at players that aren’t me. I just hope the o-Tron gag doesn’t hurt the seriousness of the next release.

I’m not that big a fan of the minstrel and running gag-o-tron, but I do think quaggans are adorable. amphibious orca/whales.
I still want to learn how the krait learned a language when they’ve never been enslaved, and they’re as xenophobic as they are.

If you follow the rescue of the dolyaks inside Lions Arch under attack, you will see how much of a jerk Evon is.

Yeah Kiel’s a bit of a jerk too, but he’s far worse, hehe

And now he’s also corrupting poor, innocent Heal-O-Tron….

I did follow the Dolyaks, I have multiple times now and have yet to see Evon. I’ve even rushed to do the first dolyak event and still he isn’t there. Can someone full screen shot it because if I don’t have proof then all it is currently is a nice photoshop job of some made up dialogue.
