They’ll take one look at the chaos, see that it was started by one of the five races that wants to be allies with them, and decide that it’s not time yet.

Maybe it was a rogue agent, maybe they’re all really like this. They’ll just have to wait and see.

In other words, nothing will happen.

If there wasn’t any mention about Tengu in upcoming patch, it wouldn’t make any sense. I mean, city got blown up and swarmed by Scarlet forces, will they just stop like “Okay, these ones are neutral, skip” and turn back? Nah. Scarlet has to harass Tengu someway. And even if we don’t see DoW opening up, we will at least get some more information.

why should old world Tengu do anything but remain xenophobic towards humanity? Particularly since they seem not to be involved in the us vs dragon thing that somehow united Tyria.

These are not Canthan Tengu. There was never an accord, never any softening of the emnity of them. I’m shocked they have any contact with outsiders at all.

And seriously.. never make them a playable race. Not until the Canthan tribes are available.

An event like this reinforces the value of the wall, it certainly doesn’t give them an incentive to open up. The wall is supposed to protect them, a war like this (most of the factions involved are the same race as the playable ones) will reinforce to the tengu why they keep out of things. It’s only when the tengu are threatened from inside the wall that they will need to leave (and Primordius is already doing that).

Yet, imho, the destruction of Lion’s Arch is exactly what was needed to make them playable – lion’s arch and the dominion of the winds were too nearby, after all.
Imho, what will happen is that the ruins of lion’s arch will be contamined by the powdered-up toxic spores, making them uninhabitable. During the next two living stories there will be negotiations with the tengu’s, and it will end with us getting access to the dominion of the winds and probably some sort of encampment built there to accomodate all the refugees, making it the new central hub. Along with it, with the content and balancing patch released after the end of the first season of the living story, tengu may be made a playable race.

I would love for this to be the case, however the destruction of Lion’s Arch would make the tengu less likely to ally with the other races, if anything. Plus, I’d have really expected some kind of foreshadowing by now, given how much we know about other elements of the upcoming story.

However, I can definitely see the tengu having a hand in the rebuilding of Lion’s Arch, and deciding to open the gates of the Dominion of Winds (and thus becoming a playable race) at the end of season two…

Oh, So, 1225 is “long Before” 1219, got it. But who cares, lore means nothing here

1225 AE The tengu from around the world migrate to Tyria and establish the Dominion of Winds, erecting a great wall encircling it. (approx.)
1220 AE Divinity’s Reach is founded in the Krytan province of Shaemoor.
1219 AE Zhaitan, the Elder Undead Dragon, awakens. Orr rises from the sea. Lion’s Arch floods. Contact with Cantha severed.

I think the main timeline points are:

1127 AE Emperor Usoku defeats the Kurzicks and the Luxon, unifies Cantha and begins purging non-humans and political enemies.
1219 AE Zhaitan, the Elder Undead Dragon, awakens. Orr rises from the sea. Lion’s Arch floods. Contact with Cantha severed.
1225 AE The tengu from around the world migrate to Tyria and establish the Dominion of Winds, erecting a great wall encircling it. (approx.)

So during 1127-1219, the Tengu could have fled Cantha and slowly migrated to the north. It was only in 1225 that the Dominion of Winds was established, presumably they were scattered throughout Kryta before that time until the undead threat came and they banded together, ever wary of the other races since the Tengu that migrated to Tyria might have already been second or third generation Tengu since the time of their persecution in Cantha.

ok this is how i see it going down.
This patch scarlet attacks LA and pushes everyone out to the vigil fort. Then starts drilling in LA.
Next patch the hero’s unit and plan to attack scarlet head on, scarlet sends the twisted marionette and most of her minions to cornucopian fields and stop the hero’s in there tracks. The hero’s prepare for a fight the know so well and get in there lanes, but scarlet has moved the lanes around. As lane one get wiped out because they face lane 2 mechanics and don’t understand why even when they attack from behind the champion doesn’t take damage. Hope started to fail and trolling starts on map chat all is lost the marionette is about to unleash her killer attack then nothing.
Meanwhile in LA with the hero’s certain death in hand scarlet goes even more mad and laugh and throw bombs everywhere. The out of nowhere a loud voice booms though LA, “Will someone please shut that nutter up”. Then with a loud BOOM the door of the dominion of wind flies open and a massive tengu army is standing there lead by there emperor. He bellows “STOP KNOCKING ON OUR DOOR” and draws his mighty bow and with one shot hits scarlet and send her flying into the mystic forge. Zommoros lets out a mighty moan and after a few minutes throws out a leaf of kudzu which the emperor picks up then turns his army around then goes back home to build his legendary.

If the door were to open and we’d be able to interact with Tengu, and even play as Tengu, I wouldn’t be surprised if there will be a movement within the Tengu like the renegades and separatists you find in Ascalon that will fight anyone who supports the interaction with other races.

If Mordremoth awakens after the scarlet arc and travels to the Maguma Jungle, much in the same way of Kralkatorrik it would cause extensive damage to the Dominion of Winds. Playable Tengu is quite a distinct possibility if you think about it.

But the fact that no Tengu character in game have changed dialogue or have we had any inclusion of them in the Living Story does put a dampener on the idea.

We had a character slot promotion recently and I never got any. I would definitely buy a couple of new slots if I could make an Avicara brave.

I guess I can forgive people for not noticing, but there was a minor involvement from a few tengu in the LS. When the Tower of Nightmares went up, Ireko Trading Post (to the south) was regularly attacked by krait and Nightmare Courtiers, which their guards would fight off. There were a couple of related dynamic events where the Toxic Alliance would come steal their stuff, and in one you had to fight them off, while the other was an escort mission for a dolyak caravan to resupply the camp.

It’s definitely nothing major, but it wasn’t zero participation or changes.

They were just defending their territory the moderators spawned them in. They have been at that post since the start. It’s not like they appeared specially to defend them.

Might as well be forgotten there…and their AI doing what any guard-AI does…shoots and stuff with red names.

Not consistent enough to even make me think about it. It could have very well been lemings instead of tengu. Same stuff.

Where were they when we fought Zhaitan..when all the scarlet attacks happened…when LA itself was attacked by karka which is on their doorstep through LA….when players were facing the poison from the toxic alliance which was happening even on the map next to theirs… They never contributed with literally anything else then defending a caravan.

Sry but they did literally nothing in this game but fly away from their problems or ignoring them. They are kind of a pathetic race really worth petty. We did more to help them indirectly by taking care of the problems they ran away from then they ever did in this game.

I honestly don’t see why ppl are so hyped about this chicken race. They have literally nothing or done nothing to ever want to “be” like them. If anything i would want to have a race that is the opposite of what they do and have opposite values.

So they gathered all of the worlds Tengu in the dominion.

One tribe that could co-exist, barely, with humanity, and all of the others that would gut a human on sight. The huge majority being the KOS variety.

Even the small faction not overtly hostile to humanity was mistreated by the Ministry of Purity and many Canthan.. and supposedly purged from Cantha later.

I doubt that 200 plus years of isolationism has somehow moderated the views of the majority of Tengu. The vast bulk of them hated humanity and there is nothing remotely hinted that would have changed that.

Thinking at this point that they will throw their doors open to human refugees is very unrealistic to me.

But a few lines in some obscure fansite interview by a single Anet writer could undo all of that. Retcon trumps lore now. Anything is possible and probable.
