I lay here, dying on the sand, from an unexpected onslaught. It was not Scarlet’s minions, nor the Miasma, that finally took me. With my last breath, I give a desperate warning before I depart to the Mist. Heed my words, Heroes of Lion’s Arch…

The Tengu are jerks!

I was a thief, using my stealthy skills to usher the citizens to safety. Dodging Aetherblade lasers and twisted Watchworks, the last thing I expected was a rain of arrows that literally KO’ed me in one strike. I’m not even the enemy!

Thanks for all your assistance Tengu, in Tyria’s time of need. I’m sure all the other races will manage just fine while you shoot down anything that comes within twenty feet of your walls.

How do they know you’re not the enemy? For all they know, a bunch of people and monsters are duking it out in their backyard. “Good” and “Evil” are just words, I mean, your character has probably murdered more than enough of bandits, pirates and hapless creatures. Would you readily open your gates to a riot?

Scarlet really hasn’t done anything towards the Tengu so they have no quarrel with her. Now when it becomes clear her actions will threatened even them, they will involve themselves in the conflict. Also from their perspective the problem was our own making, thus we should clean it up. The Sylvari’s pale tree created Scarlet, the various other races taught her in the disciplines she employs now. The Tengu, to our knowledge, have had no interaction with her other than her previous attempt to arrange an alliance with them.

It could also be simply a game mechanic to prevent players asking why the Tengu haven’t send at least a few fighters to help with the evacuations or even stop Scarlet.

Aetherblades are human and Inquest (asura), flame legion are charr, toxic alliance includes nightmare court (sylvari), and while there are no Sons of Svanir involved with Scarlet yet, she has recruited just about everyone else in the past, thus not a stretch to consider that possibility.

So, someone comes running up, in a city being destroyed by Scarlet. No matter the race, the possibility is there. So, don’t be too surprised

The Tengu reaction is understandable.

They are isolationists and as such do not have a good understanding of other races and the events around the world. One moment they are establishing trade in a major city nearby and suddenly everyone is being killed. Their reaction is what I would have expected. Not to forget internally they have a major problem with Primordius and his minions encroaching onto their territory.

Yes I would have liked to have seen a diehard group of elite Tengu braves holding the gate with ease, but for them to withdraw was logical even though slightly disappointing.

I do do not see them getting involved with world events any time soon. The lack of writing and love their race has had with the living story shows that Tengu and a new player race is very far from Arena Net’s mind.

They understand how important that wall is, and not just for themselves. It must be defended against every threat, no matter how innocent.

From what we know, Primordus’ minions are bubbling up right under the Dominion of Winds. Letting them poke holes in a few foolish heroes today might save thousands more when things become worse on the other side of the wall.

I am pretty sure tengu are not immune to the miasma… hence why they are behind the wall. I don’t even know how they’re spotting their artillery-arrows, might just be by sound and practice with ballistic arcs.

A side-effect of that is that you don’t really have any clue who’s on the other side of the wall, just that they’re making noise and, statistically speaking, probably not friendly.

My theorie would be: Whatever Scarlet is doing between this and next patch will affect the Tengu, they realize, that Scarlet is an enemy and help the other races. After that, they become part of the playable races and help defeating the next enemies.

But I would prefer, that we begin a war against them after Scarlet is dead/LA is dead and bring dead to those birds.

If they were, what are they doing shooting down all the dredge that get too close to the wall? They probably kill more of them because most players don’t try twice

Also, unless I missed something they don’t have a spotter on the wall or anything. They seem to be firing blind from behind it so they probably can’t see who you are… and are likely assuming that legitimate refugees have already left (there are few if any in that area).
