I don't want to sit and farm Penitent/Shelter's/Jofast's camp all day, but I sure feel compelled to

I spent an hour doing a circle around the cursed shore, farming nodes and doing any and all events that I saw, along with killing most of the undead I ran into because they’re annoying and I don’t like kiting them when killing is maybe 4 extra seconds. When I finished my circle I checked my loot and it was notably less than what I could have gotten by just farming those defense events in the same amount of time.
I don’t want to sit around and farm the same 3-5 events all day, its boring. I want to go out and explore the world, do different events, kill the big veterans and champions I see walking around and tucked in the little corners of the world. I want to be able to leave the cursed shore when I start getting tired of looking at the same scenery. I want to go back to the Shiverpeak Mountains if I want to and do events there and run around the mountains. I’m also starting to sound selfish with the “i wants”…
The problem is if I go do any of those things, I feel like i’m getting punished, because I get better/more rewards for farming those camps and sitting in the same general area than I do for moving around and doing different things. I don’t want to be tempted by the carrot and the stick thing, and I know that I can do any of those things that I listed if I wanted to right now, but right now i’m sitting on a dilemma of wanting 2 things but only being able to choose one, because I also love getting rewarded for my play time with stuff I can actually use.
The fact is, these 3 camp events and the ones immediately around them reward way too well to even think about moving anywhere else.
Is anybody else in the same boat as me? Wanted to move around the world but see no reason to do so when camp camping gives so much loot?

I have to say I’m in the same boat. But what I don’t want them to do is use their heavy handed tactic that has been deployed so far and just bring out the nerf bat. You should get rewarded just as much for being in Orr as your favorite zones at level 80. If they want you to explore the world, make me want to explore the world, as stated very well above you are not doing at the moment.

If they “fix” anything Im sure they will simply nerf the value of events as opposed to buffing anything else.
And then the game will be worse instead of better.

Nerf those farming spots to ground. Mindlessly aoe spamming should not be rewarded. Plus, those spots are infested with bots.

Same as me, this is a post from me on Reddit basically regarding the same thing. I left the context out that I simply got tired of akfing events and profiting.

They should downscale better. That means:
a) Make us weaker in low-level areas. As of now I am too strong when I play in a level 20 area as level 80 character, allegedly downscaled to level 22.
b) Give us karma, gold, xp like in level 80 areas.
c) Give us level adequate loot like in Orr.
Then it would be the same (loot-/xp-/karma-/goldwise) if I play in Kessex Hills or Cursed Shore. And that would be a very good thing because the high level player would spread all over the world.

I agree, but I would add that the travel costs need to suit our down-leveled status. If I’m level 6 in an area why should I spend 1.5 silver to go to a nearby waypoint? You could solve the whole “going to a newbie area to get discount travel” by way of making the destination the cost multiplier. Thus a level 80 goes to Queensdale and pays 5 copper to travel there, he then goes to Kessex Hills and it costs him apx 60 copper as the new area is 15-25. When he returns to Cursed Shore he would pay 3 silver.

I was very disapointed when I found it this was not going to be the case, I had the impression for a long time that this was the whole point of downscaling and you could actually go where you want without missing out on rewards.
This certainly suits the design of the world. I do remember seeing a developer say that if this was the case then players would not feel the need to progress from zone to zone.
However, I think with the personal story and one time only heart completion as well as the general urge to explore new places this wouldn’t actually be too big an issue whilst leveling.

I agree – this is the flaw with any levelling system that makes previous content redundant, you never can really go back. Arenanet have somewhat exacerbated the problem by handing out XP in shovelfuls making it quick to get to level 80 without seeing much of the early content or exploring, which is a pity as it’s excellent and the off track content is the best.
If you just downscale bit more though that would rightly cause complaints from those very casual players who find the content too hard already (yes there are some!) and need to overlevel to compensate.
A much better solution, I think, is to have optional downscaling, which is what my op here is about: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/events/Carrying-The-Burden-Of-Grenth-Hard-Mode. if that’s TL;DR, then the basic idea is that you should have a choice to accept more radical downscaling in return for better rewards.

I agree with both of you, if they do this then it will be awesome able to explore Tyria without have to worrying about getting punished by going to the low level areas.
Right now, the population at Orr is overload. There are about 25-30 players zerging at almost every DE, while most of DE are designed for 15 players in my opinion. This makes the content of PVE has a little to none options. If they improve the downscaling system then it would help to spread out the populations all across Tyria.

I agree with what the OP said.

Yeah totally agreed, right now the main reason I don’t farm Karma is how boring it is. I even try to farm gold in dungeons cause I’d rather do that than being stuck in the terrible region of Orr. No other region in a game has gotten me that bored so far. I was expecting an epic end game zone and what I got was the boring kingdom of repetion and countless ccs by the worst idiotic mobs you don’t even want to face.
I used to say GW2 is not a pvp game the pve will be awesome with Orr and all ! No it’s not.

I just made the suggestion on the “Players helping players” board that people DO leave Orr and go do events elsewhere. Yes, we may get more karma in Orr, but so what? Who are we in a race with? I’ve had to step back and re-evaluate my goals in this game. I do want that exotic armor with the great stats, but I’ll be ok to wait a while. I can still run dungeons. I can still do a lot of other things without it.
Orr sucks, grinding sucks, farming karma sucks! I say to heck with it, I’ll be in the lowbie zones having fun, enjoying the scenery and challenges and checking out things I missed as I leveled. You know…adventuring, exploring and playing in the beautiful world that Anet has provided us.

I’m a big GW lore buff so it was very exiting for me to see how the world changed and how stories were expanded upon in this game. But I already finished doing all those things you mentioned, you could even say I’m burned out on them.
Is that a problem? Of course not, well at least not to me. Because I was still having a lot of fun doing other things in the game that I enjoy doing like WvW and working on my Legendary. Exploring low level zones isn’t the only fun thing in the game, I was having a lot of fun doing the things that I like to do.
I WAS still having fun.
Now the game is telling me I’m playing the game wrong, I shouldn’t be getting anything from playing the game, the game is telling me to stop playing.
There goes the fun.

I second this. Yes please.

I totally agree. The last maps are little, claustrophobic and boring with trivial Dynamic Events.

This is the solution they need to go with. It would fix this problem, and make the game more fun.

@OP Are you complaining that some places are better to get gold than other places in a MMO game? Seriously?
/puts another slice of cheese on cats head

I think we should just get loot scaled according to our real level, like in chests from bosses all across the world, I still get level 80 items. That’s good but maybe this can happen for every drop, then we have no prob with killing things in low level maps. Of course the drop rate and rarity etc is up for adjustment but idk, doesn’t that help? But it would mean we’d go and farm low level places cuz things die easy in our hands…. Hmmm…. That doesn’t work lol forget what I said
