Mobs cluster = boring battles.
I think the problem isn’t so much mobs packing together and getting dps down, so much as the fact that many events have too many people in them. Thus a mob gets aoe-ed by 10 people while my stubby little char legs can’t get me to the mobs in time to get the arbitrary 1 or 2 blow in in-order to get my share of the xp.

Agreed, some professions have it easier than others. Never had a problem getting enough AoE hits in on mobs with my warrior or lower elementalist, but my mesmer and thief can really struggle in this department.
During these event I switch to my flamethower. however I fell your pain. I wish the mobs would be more spread out and have us all running around to defend the location
Yes i see now. Its a bit of hybrid problem.
I read a lot of opinions and tested araund a bit.
Not only the placements is a problem (trough using the zone araund the events for tactical adventage like in pvp would be lovely), but the scale of mobs hp or number wont scale with the players overrall power.
Even if they dont cluster they die in 2-3 hits somethimes. Or to few enemy comes.
