So as I wandered around a bit of orr today I noticed a few things.

1. The entire first zone is completely contested meaning it was completely blocked off in it’s entirety and no waypoints were usable. So I tried to help out the war effort by taking some things back. Starting at the large encampment on the shore I pushed the orrians off land into the water. My wife and I were the only two attempting this and we lost a few submarines in the water. At one point the only way to ensure survival of our submarines was that I had to stay with them and constantly feed them regeneration.

We completed that event and pushed further to kill a few of their ships near the mines in the water. Finally we reached land and this is where the problem occurred. Once land was reached it was impossible for us to take it. It wasn’t by fault of anything we were doing. There were just too many orrians. They kill all our attacking force and kill their morale which forces them back in the water.

For just the two of us it was impossible for this event to be completed and it was NOT a group event. That means that anyone that’s even remotely new to the game will not see the epic pushes the we witnessed at the beginning of the game. Not being able to do the push efforts solo is bad and it’s not good for this game. They really should scale based on number of people proximity.

All non champion events should be able to be completed by just one person.

2. Because the zone is blocked off (because duo we couldn’t take strategic positions as listed above) some areas are much too difficult. Ie. there’s a skill point in that same zone south of relay waypoint at a temple. Now the temple is filled with veteran cultists that summon a 3 or 4 non veteran cultist while you fight them and continue to do this until the veteran is dead. Duo it was very difficult to push to the skill challenge but when we got there we had to contend with two veteran cultists and it just was not possible for us to get the challenge started and contend with both cultists at the same time.

If we had the ability to take this temple solo that wouldn’t be an issue but there’s not. So we’re forced to treat this zone like a dungeon but one in which no one would be willing to do in a pug. (I mean who really wants to do that)

I don’t mind having to take a zone to complete it. I do mind that it’s not possible solo and is very frustrating as a player to be blocked because of low population in these zones.

Please Anet I understand people don’t want to lower the difficulty of this game and I get that but it causes a rift between those that started the game (like I did on other characters) and those that are starting now. I would be seriously tired of dying all the time just to complete zones if I were new. Not to mention missing out on all of the content in place because very few people go there for just the reason listed above.

Straits of Devastation is meant to be a map-wide effort of like 20+ people in order to complete the event chains and then capture the temple of Balthazar.

The problem is that it doesn’t happen anymore. Meaning those that are new to the game will never see it happen. Anet should make the events possible now for less people and scale them based on proximity.

Agree with this 100%. I have been able to complete SoD with some guild help, but still need to finish the other 2 zones in Orr. It’s just impossible to get enough people together to do this when I have the time to do it, meaning it could take months for me to get map completion. That is very frustrating to those players that have limited play time. I don’t mind a challenge, but it’s not a challenge. It is literally impossible solo.

Actually I have a MUCH better idea. There should be a daily/weekly laurel reward for retaking EACH orr zone. That would solve it all! No nerf would be necessary and new players would get to see all of Orr as they should see it. That way the “purists” wouldn’t see a nerf to the zone and would give people reasons to go there.

I don’t know on what server you’re on but here on Jade Quarry Orr is constantly being kept open by active players and Temple Runners.

There are servers that clear Balthazar, I just can’t rememer which. I think it wasTarnished Coast, Borlis Pass and Stormbluff Isle which do it every week.

Seafarer’s Rest clears it every now and then too.

I was on my own today mapping SoD and I also started pushing from the North and into the water- unfortunately I lost the last sub just as I killed the last submarine- I was actually impressed that I got that far all by my lonesome.

Yes SoD especially needs some love- I can understand the the LS always skips Orr but there needs to be some reason for people to do the cool chains.
everyone is in CS and FGS farming.
And that kitten vista at Lightfoot passage! that vista has claimed more deaths than Zhaitan :P

I loved Orr back when the game launched- My husband and I tried a Balthazar run at least 3 times a week just for kicks back then

The south chain is entirely soloable and fun, and the rest well… I don’t like them but they’re intended to be group events. The only tough part about completing the map is the Balth skill point and those jumping puzzles.

I think that’s a great idea to add Orr to the Dailies. Or maybe as a Monthly? Specific zone achievements would move some people into zones that see few people. It may not spread people all around the world of Tyria, but if they were Dailies, each zone would see some activity once a month or so. Maybe I haven’t thought through all the drawbacks, but it sounds good to me. =)

Oh wait. I thought of the complaint. “My character isn’t the appropriate level for that zone. You are discriminating against my character.” Never mind.

Well we have both regular and pvp monthlys. they could add a separate monthly for Orr only. gives 10 laurels. Have to complete all three end zone events. Would be pretty nice to get people back in the zones.

err that is basically one big open-world raid zone. You can solo through the map for completion and leveling, but to suggest the raid content in the zone needs to be soloable is just ridiculous. Go to frostgorge? kitten easy there.

And yes it does happen, quite often, by raiding standards.

If all you want is that skill point (my thief has gotten it while contested actually) then look for a server that has just completed it and guest there. Last thing we need is more content getting nerfed, really. Really, I’d rather that zone be taken up to full 80 and made a bit harder, harder like old pre-nerf cursed shore, though I know that will never happen. And really, if you are not at level 80 and in exo gear, I’d just skip Orr map completion until then. I, like many people, completed cursed shore first then worked backwards.

Anyway, there is a website, don’t remember which, that gives you the status on all temples on every server. Find one open, when one is, and guest. My server, it’s open every couple days or so. My last attempt was two days ago, but was late and we lacked numbers for the final stage.

Yea, the Balth skill point is silly, though if you are a guardian or have any guardian friends, you can just aegis and be done with it, contested or not.

I went to that area once. I saw all these contested areas and tried to clear one, died about 20 times in a row, left, went back a few more times and experienced the same thing and then never went back.

Well when they release the lfg tool, I think it’s going to be easier to find other people interested in doing temple chains. Currently, it’s mostly about going to the zone and waiting to see if anyone else will join in, if they haven’t given up and left already. And that’s just concerning those that will actually participate in the chain as opposed to just zoning in at the last moment to spank the last boss a few times and claim their hard earned rewards. And sadly, there are a LOT of those types of players

I actually got my world completion done yesterday, and I soloed 98% of it with a Norn necro , the worst trouble I had was the skill point on Karst Plains on Malcor’s leap that almost bought me to tears ( LOL) as the stupid risen champion knight kept spawning on me whilst I was trying to commune . After guesting on two servers and seeing that it was doing the same on those servers too, switched my elite lich for a Flesh Golem in hope it would distract the champ long enough for me to commune…… a few attempts and I finally got it sorted . (not sure why I hadn’t thought of that hours ago, oh I wish I had my heros and henchmen!)
