[SPOIL] Future Flame and Frost dye packs.
How are these previews possible? I like what I see certainly.
IF I could buy the specific colors I wanted I would buy a few of those colors. The shades of blue are fantastic.
However, I am disappointed once again. I simply will NOT buy anything from the gem store that is character bound or gated behind a money grubbing screw over your player RNG. I will not spend actual money for a ‘chance’ to get what I actually want.
Disappointed
The only rng i enjoy is at Vegas. Its a great feeling to get an exclusive dye or weapon, but not worth the cost of losing real money for it.

Character bound doesn’t bother me. RNG does though. Buying keys for a shot at something is ridiculous. I buy keys occasionally but that’s only because I know I can use the stuff that’s in the chest no matter what I get. I’m not going to increase my key buy rate just for some dye or a weapon skin, sorry.
Make them drop in the world and trade on the TP.
Make them available for gems.
Other than that no thanks.
I would have no problem buying a dye I like or the set of them for gems, straight for a price, thats what the cash shop is for and it keeps the game running. I bought the Halloween and Wintersday minis and some town clothes so far.
I sure as hell will not gamble for them with gems or gold. I put my foot down against RNG cash shop when the game released and I’m sticking with it, because sales numbers are the only metric that they will listen to. I suggest everyone to do the same.
RNG-exclusive dyes now as well? Ugh. Lame. I’m with the others, I might consider buying them if I could just get them outright, but gambling I absolutely will not do.
Shame, I like the texture of these.

You can preview them on your character by copy-pasting the chat link code in game; I did it by sending myself a whisper with the chat link included. Then you just right click to preview.
The second album in the OP is mine, and I updated it with the chat codes for convenience. Happy previewing!
RNG-exclusive dyes now as well?
Kristin Cox strikes again.
No pix for leather?
I wonder how their marketing people can be so bad they didn’t at least try selling a color on the tp to see if (and how many) people would prefer straight up buying or RNG. if they really make more money with rng sales, good for them, but without at least one testcase they’ll never know for sure. seems like they just blindly put out stuff without thinking about how it will affect their customers view nor how much they can make out of it.
Ok, I came to this thread, I watched the colors, I thought “Hey cool I’m gonna buy them!” I read the rest and … yep I’m out again.
I wouldn’t mind if I can buy a color pack with one random color of that range though.
No pix for leather?
Mmmm … leather.
I have no interest in buying these dyes due to the RNG element.

OMG vanity items… that are luxury items and have no impact on our ability to play… They must be stopped from doing what they told us they would do with vanity items we want…
RNG? No thanks.

No. They never said kitten would be hidden behind RNG! Why can’t they just do it like GW1?
Makes me sad I will never get some of this stuff since I refuse to play there little money grabbing game. Also means they will never see my money.

they never said they wouldn’t…
How do you know they’ll be available only in those chests? Maybe “exclusive” doesn’t mean “exclusive to the pack”, just “harder to get”.
Otherwise ANet’s monetization team would be getting into very, VERY bad business practices that must be stopped.

There’s no need to be so condescendingly passive aggressive. It is possible to disagree with someone without being snide to them.
I’m starting to feel like I’m going to end up a third-class citizen of Tyria after people with an extraordinary amount of free time and people with an extraordinary amount of disposable income. Pretty much everything that is being added is for all intents and purposes out of my reach. I’ve put a good bit of money into the game and I’ve thrown a little money into some RNG things, but it is reaching the point in GW2 where I would need to rely on gambling to get things and that is unhealthy gambling. I’m being priced (in time and money) out of the game.

I do apologize. its just some times the people on this forum can be just so insane… it can really get to a person
Catqeer, this is not what the thread is about. It’s about the way these vanity items are introduced – with RNG, which is NEVER fun to deal with (But hey, i’ll say it again: “It is not fun!”).
Chuck them in the gem store RNG chest or whatever but please give us a way to get them by actually playing the game.
IE we get one for doing the F&F story or a dungeon chest reward etc.
Enjoy the RNG using your gems, i pass
Tying these limited availability items to the RNG shows just how little Anet cares for it’s player base beyond viewing us as cash cows. I wouldn’t mind spending the gems if I was guaranteed to get what I paid for, but to have to dish out real cash to gamble for an item with a ridiculously low success rate (2% as I understand it) is, quite frankly, insulting. If even one person in Anet’s business unit understood the concept of equilibrium price, they could make the money they need to continue development AND provide value to their customers.

When what they told us was, “You will have skill based progression towards top tier vanity items! No need to grind or wait for good fortune to smile on you. Go out there and achieve your best!”
What we got is…
“Here are these new item skins that some portion of the population will want. If you want them please buy at least 100 Black Lion keys to even have a remote chance at getting one. Best regards, give us more money.”
It makes more sense to put this in the cash shop for a straight price than to choke hold money out of a small portion of the player base that feel they must have these items. Assuming that the majority of the Guild Wars 1 player base is still here, they would make way more money putting it straight in the gem shop than by walling it behind their horrible RNG they so love in this game. Also notice, there is no skill based progression anywhere in the current set up for high end vanity items.
I’ll never understand why they do not sell them directly.
In my opinion more people would buy these things (skins or whatever) , if they would have a reasonable price and were sold directly (you pay for what you definetely get).
I will never buy anything (especially not for real cash) to have only a chance to get a certain item.
They could be clever and have a nice gem shop where people would love to spend money, but they do it another way… -.-
And yeah, the dyes look fine, but not that good to throw my money away for a chance to get them. ^^

People aren’t upset that ArenaNet is charging for vanity items. They’re upset that ArenaNet is asking us the gamble for vanity items.
If AN had simply introduced these dyes in the Gem Store, either individually or in a pack, I promise you there would be no shortage of people lining up to purchase them. But since they’re locked away in a RNG chest, one could conceivably spend hundreds of dollars on gems and not get the dyes they want. Surely you can understand where the that would anger some?
In Guild Wars there was a cash shop. There were plenty of people who happily forked over money for vanity items. But they always got exactly what they paid for. They were never beholden to RNG, or gambling, when it came to cash shop purchases. Fast forward to GW2, and the hiring of someone who worked on MapleStory (a game where RNG cash shop items are famous) and now we’ve got a system where spending money might get you the vanity item you want, and it might not.

I’m sorry what?
Gw1 had no rng? Well lets see….
Ectos were rng,
rare weapon skins (aka voltaic spear) all rng,
inscriptions? all rng
That’s just to name a few, gw1 was far from rng free…infact I know not of one single mmo without some element of rng even many single player games have it.
Doesn’t mean I like it but lets not put on any rose tinted glasses here.
Disappointing, but I’m fortunate in that I’m largely content with the colours I’ve unlocked (which are mostly a mix of Commons and Uncommons). It’s not worth the amount of money (both real and in-game) it would take to unlock those specific colours.
Those things you mention were found in-game. Obviously, you can buy the dye packs with in-game gold, which anyone can get. However, the purpose of them being in the gem store is to drum up real-world cash (something I certainly do not begrudge ANet from wanting), so that has to be the proper focus of any complaints.
I hope ANet will reconsider and try harder to adhere to the concept of innovation the game, as a whole, displays when dealing with new gem store content. That is to say, don’t fall into the pit of ticking off your player base by using this RNG stuff. I’m not a bean counter that can say with any certainty, but I tend to think providing these things without the veil of the RNG would generate more income over time as well as engender more good will between ANet and the players.
Unfortunately, I suspect the gem store is handled by people other than those we are familiar with re general game content, mechanics, etc. That is, bean counters vs game designers/suits vs devs…and those in charge probably see the old-school concept of RNG (in other words, the lottery approach) gating as more profitable. Maybe it is, but it still comes with unsavory baggage.

None of those were obtained through the cash shop. We’re specifically discussing rng in GW2’s cash shop, not in drops or salvage results or any other area of the game.
The simplest way to change Arenanet’s policy is to not participate in the content they are trying to sell. If no one buys lottery tickets, no lottery tickets will be sold.
They lost out again from getting money from me. Enough with the gambling crap. Just sell the colors themselves. I am not buying a chance to get the color I want. That is just bad business for me or anyone else. Doesn’t take a lot of common sense.
Well they look pretty cool, but if they are really RNG then I will not be participating. The Account Bound to character bound dye transition as a cash grab was enough for me, I won’t encourage RNG gambling behavior on top of it.
I am sorry, I do not see where ArenaNet announced how these new dyes are obtained. Just that someone had datamined the new colors. If someone would be kind enough to link me to the official announcement, I would be ever so appreciative. Thank you in advance. =)
Otherwise, it seems to be conjecture (which may be true..or not) on how to get these dyes.

I think it’s just an educated guess, judging from how every month has been…
Last month brought Flame & Frost weapons to the BLCs for all the gambling addicts.
I’d probably pay $5 for a weapon skin… but no way am I gambling away my hard-earned cash for the chance at having one.
If you follow ArenaNet’s current pattern of introducing stuff, you’ll see that the Gem Store is at the core of everything.
After much consideration, they’d probably make VASTLY more money if they simply added them to the existing unidentified dye drops.
Just make them rarer than existing rare dyes and you’ll end up with dyes more expensive than Abyss Dye (currently 20g on the TP) if they’re desirable enough.
It’ll keep the price of unidentified dyes high while decreasing the price of more common dyes. (The wealthy will likely buy up and open thousands of unidentified dyes in hopes of getting the new dyes… Thus resulting in plenty of blue and green dyes.)
It’d be beneficial for the game’s economy as a whole.

Hah, I think this idea is well intentioned but never underestimate the desperation of the gambling mind. Is gambling a healthy consumer business model? Kitten no. It’s a loser’s game. Is it good for business? Kitten yes! Microtransactions and “gambling” that’s not gambling in the legal sense are a match made in heaven.
That being said, I think from the start of this thread there was misinformation and people jumped on it. The same reddit thread referenced clarifies that the dyes are only rare and not exotic, confirmed in game through item links. Also, nowhere in the thread does anyone officially or unofficially say that the dye pack will be hidden behind the same sort of RNG as the fused weapons. People were talking about all sorts of cash shop RNG but this is an appropriate example of what people were most afraid of. Most importantly, the first person to mention “chance” in the reddit thread only said “Flame and Frost Dye packs will be added to the Gem Store. You’ll have a chance for these.” They were likely referencing the item description which reads “Flame Dye Kit
Double-click to gain one random flame-inspired color. Includes a chance at 1 of 6 exclusive colors.”
So there folks. Now, make a more informed opinion on the items themselves. They appear no different than the current dye kit or the previous consortium dyes, in fact, your chances for getting the color you want may be higher than you thought. *Disclaimer. Still RNG.

The Charred dye… I.. NEED.. the Charred dye…
Not sure where to put this, would like a dev response to it as I’m not sure if bug or intended, but, least as a warning to everyone else, DO NOT buy these dyes. As the description says, you should receive one random color from the new spectrum. Plus 6 other new exclusive colors. I might have read that wrong, however I find for my hard earned money that I used for something nice to have, to only receive ONE, Frosting DYE… one… most expensive dye I have ever bought. Completely wasted money, slap in the face, and honestly quite a turnoff from this game. Again, if anything, this is just a heads up.
{League Of The Valkyries} {LOVE}
No, you get one dye, from a pool of 25 colors including (in those 25) 6 exclusive ones
Krall Peterson – Warrior
Piken Square
Ty Krall, I think I understand now. Still yet, fact remains, I had no idea RNG was involved. Had I known, I would not of thrown RL money into it. I feel duped and cheated. Oh well, just my feeling.
{League Of The Valkyries} {LOVE}
HAHAHAHA. Wait. So you spend 125 gems and you have a 6/25 chance (assuming they are all equal – which I doubt they are) of getting one of the new dyes? Otherwise you get something like Frosting Dye which is one of the cheapest dyes in the game?
Oh Crystin Cox, you so funny.
So you create some of the best dye colors in the game, at least in my opinion, and then you not only lock them behind bad odds in an RNG that you need to spend gems on, you also make them time limited? In a system where all of the dyes need to be unlocked per character?
That’s not cool ArenaNet.

spend 4500gem, and i got Cinder + Glacial Sky Dye.
anyone have more luck in RNG than me?
Kalau kamu bisa membaca ini, kamu sudah menghabiskan waktumu untuk hal yg tidak penting :D

I would highly recommend you not to look up the dye prices on the TP.
