[Feedback Thread] New Crown Pavilion First Impression [merged]

Marionette was better because not only did it point the players in the right direction, having more players on your lane was a good thing. This event scales poorly in comparison, and telling people they aren’t welcome to join you and look for another boss for whatever reason is just poor by design in gw2 standards.

I’ll stick around for the achivements in the pavillion, Then u wont see me there. Way too much hard work and Money compared to the reward… I was hoping to collect some mats again..
The mechanics are well done, but the effort it takes compared to what u get is just not Worth it, as the only thing I’m aiming for is the Little cute panda. If The antler/deer helm would be among the old rewards i’d like to have that one too…

you have ever count how much you need to make asc weapons and armors?
You are talking about a set of weapons and armour which are supposed to provide the average player with a not-short-term-attainable long term goal. As in, not something you actively grind for, instead you make the pieces as you get the materials.
That’s why the upgrade is so tiny, so that it really doesn’t matter.

Yeah, that is true. I feel they should have made it so that each boss has 15 “slots”, and it shows how many slots are left. LA event style. Not on a slot => cannot damage the boss.

Either way it is still a flawed system. The players are basically fighting the dynamic scaling system, which is something that should be hidden behind the scenes, not up front during the battle.
Whether it’s a boss dynamically scaling to have way too many hitpoints, to a slot system, where only a limited number of players are allowed to join the boss battle, they are all crutches for a flawed design.
What you really want is a system, that makes sure that a boss battle is fun and challenging, regardless of the number of players there, and without the players being aware of the system. Anet is still struggling to make that work, because they started out with a system that was poorly thought out. It did not turn out to work as well as they probably hoped.

Keeping GW2 installed but can’t bring myself to start the game until I see a fix for the particle effects porn in the patch notes. Give us a slider ANet.

I feel that’s not true. Many events like Claw of Jormag, Shatterer or so work mighty fine independent of player numbers. Done Claw with ~12 players before, but it works fine with 120.
But, players kept ranting for ANet to do something “against the zerging” since release. It’s one of the most common feedback items next to underflow (and that was implemented, too!). So as of the last ~4 updates in the Living Story 1 (and some experiments earlier), they are slowly trying to discourage everyone being stacked.
Ofc, now we got tons of players who mind that.
Lacking data, we really don’t know what players do more online, but my feel is that the mass-zerging isn’t a bad thing at all, so long as the mechanics slowly grow more complex.
On the other hand, splitting players like for Marionette, LA or this now has the upside that FPS is much better for people on older hardware.
My experience so far is that people have responded exceptionally well to instructions. The only exception being people ignoring the turret on Boom Boom, most likely because they have tunnel vision during the fight.
This has lead to Boom Boom being the last to die, which make the fight take very long. Out of all the bosses, if you have a small guild group I suggest you tackle Boom Boom and let the rest of the map deal with the other bosses.
Also, I’ve found that being polite and helpful causes the mob of zergers to listen to you… they want rewards too, they just don’t know how to get them.
The problem with this event is not the event itself, and players are only a fraction of the problem.
What we are missing for this kind of content that requires more coordination are the proper tools to be able to monitor and complete it.
Commander tags just don’t do it properly for this one and can too easily be used to troll.A simple improvement that could do wonders would be to display ALL the bosses life bars at the same time regardless of the zone you’re in.
So if you see a life bar that does not go down, go there !A second one would be to have the number of players in each area displayed as well, but I doubt that is even possible.
That would be a giant step in the right direction for every player.
i think this is the key to really helping people out. Taking out people trolling as i feel no matter what any company does there will be people who will always find a way to get attention from a bunch of online strangers.
If they can’t show numbers of players at a certain boss there should be a color code on the boss icon that indicates scaling.
White= No scaling currently involved
Green = First tier of scaling
Yellow, Orange, Red…….you get the idea.
This could help and it reduces the need of the commander tag as users will see a red boss icon and realize…ok everyone and their mother is there. I’ll help out on the green one.
The biggest difference I see here in comparison with the Marionette fight, is that with the Marionette fight players still felt they could win, even if the fight went bad. I saw plenty of battles where we either won or lost just by the skin of our teeth. There was always that sliver of hope that you could still beat it, and get the full reward.
With the Boss Blitz, you know that the longer you take, the worst your reward gets. The gold reward is already pretty poor. So if you can no longer make the gold reward, you might as well stop right there. And that’s not very good design. Players should get the full reward for the troubles, regardless how good or bad they do. When the fight drags on so long, and the players finally beat it, do you really want to hand them a few greens and that’s it? They should have made it so that the players feel encouraged to push on. Victory should always remain in reach, and players should be able to recover from an initial slow burn.
It’s the Mario Kart rule. The more behind you are, the higher your chances of getting that super weapon, and taking the pole position. You always want the players to feel like they could snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. But if the players see that they are eligible for the glorious bronze “giant-waste-of-time-award”, they will cut their losses and leave prematurely.

I like the direction they are taking the game.
The event doesnt take a huge amount of coordination – just teamwork minded players. As the week goes on, those are the players we will see staying in the Blitz and it will be easier to get gold. There is content for players who want to mindlessly farm, but this isnt (and shouldnt be) it. Events like this should be about community coordination. And it doesnt even require real coordination. Its more about tacit coordination where players understand it’s a group event and not a bunch of random individuals doing their own thing.
If anything, I only see two things they need to consider.
Scaling could use some number tweaking. People are already yelling at people when groups go above a certain size. The event should fail if every player dogpiles one or two bosses, but those bosses shouldnt take 20 minutes to kill if numbers scale above an arbitrary threshold. Its not a big thing, but something they should consider tweaking for events in the future.
The second is they should consider some kind of ultra rare unique reward skin drop from events like this (or maybe something a little different – like the two week passes to the Queen’s Terrace). This one Im iffy about, though. Im not an “in it for loot” player – Im more about the experience, but a unique reward (even if its an ultra rare drop) would add some flavor – and a little anticipation to the event.

The reason the marionette fight worked better is that failure wasn’t such a drawn out grind. If you did badly in marionette at least it was over quickly. If you do badly in this one it takes absolutely forever, which is pretty soul destroying. A bad run on Marionette was disappointing, a bad run in the pavilion is aggravating.
This thread is really a waste of time. If you think writing about your frustration makes a difference for ANet and the future patches then you must be new to the forums. Everything here has been mentioned in lots of other threads and 200 page CDIs and what happened now?
Do you really think ANet’s devs are unaware of how this game lacks rewards? Trust me, they know, but they continue to nerf what is already bad.
It is a shame really because the game had potential but bad mistakes after mistakes will drive the community away.

Eh, you may want to check the patch progress vs what players were asking for, so far. Because a few themes show up a lot which were pretty much the entire forum rage in the early days.
New name for this.
Festival Gold Sink.
I’ve never thought I’d feel like quitting the game so strongly.
I also find the gauntle tickets arent too easy to come buy, and I hate the dual currency of having them cost silver AND festival tokens. Please no dual currency. It sucks.
This event has increased the price of all mats. and has brought nothing in. Its really disappointing.
(the boss mechanices are interesting, and people did ask for marionette to be brought back, this is similar in terms of organisation, only, nobody wants to organise, because it’s worthless.)
i think what a few of you don´t seem to under stand is that the scaling is intentianly that way to dis courage zerging. this blitz is supposed to be done by 6 single groups of people doin each one boss. the scalign THEN is not a problem. the scaling a 150 zerg however is meant to be impossible to finish as gold.
anet net tries to brign you to do these tactic watch over the plateedge. trying to give you the raid encounter everyone havs been bithcing about since launch even though they KNEW there wasn´t any wow raid in this game.
however i agree for that to work better they need to show all bosses HP in the entire pavilion.
and if im correct after one boss is down, two groups can still help each other. like
grooup 1-6 fight. group 4 and 1 finshed 4 helps 5 out who has done not so much dmg while 1 helps group 2 who are secound to last. by that time 3 has finshed and split up to either boss if nessecarey. #
and maybe to tneder to people more enter a 7th boss that can be zerged, jsut to let our frustration of the struggle before and then get good, not to much but good amoutns of loot.

the prizes increase becaus there was drop before before everyone speculated on a zerg farm fest again. its basicly all the zergs fault.

they did a fix if there are many palyers hitting a boss you see less blinding lights and see more of the battle.

All they need to make this possible is add a colour buff that you need to get to fight the boss in the arena you’re in, you can change colour buff at any time, by going to another arena.
We’ve seen that they can tell how many people have the colour buff. This plus your idea… would help strongly for the organisation.
I think people are also kittened off with having to pay for an event…>.>
It’s funny that it seems all players cared about in regards to the Pavillion is the loot grinding.
I guess it might have been an experiment, see what the community notice more to judge their disposition. The changed and upgraded boss mechanics, or the lack of loot if you don’t organize.I suppose the message the devs is clear, don’t do content, give us more loot instead? :P
Because really, ignore all loot for a moment. From all situations. In that scenario, the Boss Blitz is ok. The HP scales freely, which means that players have the difficult in their own control, can last anything from 5 minutes to 25 minutes but hey, we managed that with the Marionette, too!
So really, all that is “missing” is “more loot”, apparently. Because 8 champ bags + chest roll for 5 minutes isn’t enough, despite being more than what you get from champ train farming. But I understand that the amount of organization needed is what’s actually annoying people and causing these complaints, not the lack of loot. :PAnd even then, that’s a very minor downside against much better boss mechanics compared to last year. If I had to pick between the two, I’d rather have no loot, because really if you need more cash in this game you’re doing something wrong. :P
you cannot divorce reward from game design, If you do, you will make a bad game.
its not a one or the other thing, reward design is part of game design, an INTEGRAL PART.
If the only way to enjoy a game, is to ignore the rules/rewards the people set up, it means they made a bad game. and by taking their basic gameplay and altering the rules/rewards you could make a superior game.
I had fun doing new pavillion with TTS. Coordinated, we were easily able to obtain gold 4x in a row and it only takes 6 mins + about 4 min set up. Unfortunately, once again, the majority of players are just going to zerg it (not focus the turret on boom boom, for example, kitten why boss no die?) and thus abandon it. Fun for the bigger guilds though and the rewards aren’t great but when you complete every 10 min not so terrible either.
Perhaps a getting ‘gold’ achieve would inspire people to figure out the mechanics instead of wanting the zergfest back but then people would just complain its too hard to get. I for one prefer harder content but wish there was a better way to organize people other than spam map chat or hope for 6 pins to tag up so you can take on all bosses at once instead of zerging.

The problem is majority of people arent in such guilds, and anet has added no mechanics for people to know what boss to go to.
What I mean is, you as a person cant see where people are in this event. and if they’re all zerging one, you could go to another, but you’d find yourself solo,
In saying that, there were about 30 people tops doing this event earlier today…. and yeah, they zerged…because no body really cares… events like this should force/activate map chat for people who have it off too.

If I interpret this correct, you mean that as long as champ train in FGS is such high rewards, having such low rewards on an event such as this makes no sense?
Well, two things:
- Rewards are pretty high at 48-52 champ bags per hour + 410 or so tokens per hour + >100 tickets per hour. That’s nearing 1 champ bag per minute.
- Would you prefer devs to never fix any reward scaling because “all the other stuff is still there”? They would need to do everything in one gargantuan patch then, I can’t see that work out well. Champ loot being unbalanced every since the buff, dungeon rewards being out of whack, nothing about this changes that the old pavillion rewards were silly, and the new ones genuinely reward working together.
I do think that a) coordination is needlessly difficult due to the event popup not being as good as it could be and b) Silver/Bronze shouldn’t take as long. Maybe bosses slowly lose HP as the reward tier goes down or so. So that Bronze is 15 minutes instead of 25.
Hey all, just a quick note. Earning higher tiers of reward in the Boss Blitz in the Queen’s Pavilion is a great way to earn Festival Tokens, and Queen’s Gauntlet tickets – the rewards that the other activities within the festival give as well. If you check your inventory, you should see the tokens & tickets you have received.
So by using Great Jungle Wurm style coordination to get a gold reward, the only reward we get is tokens for buying skins that we already have from doing Living Story the last time around, and Queen’s Gauntlet tickets for entering fights and getting achievements that we already have from doing Living Story the last time around.

I’m sure this will probably be a humorously hated idea, but I wish they would remove the ability to trade gold for gems. There’s no tin foil hat to say that for whatever reason they claim for nerfing it also protects their bottom line. They would be far less strict about loot if it didn’t threaten their profits.
Who wants to take bets on anet doing a mid-event revamp of boss blitz, ala the assault knights?
Who wants to take bets on anet doing a mid-event revamp of boss blitz, ala the assault knights?
I REALLY hope they do, tbh, …… only way to players are going to this right, is if they’re forced to.
I think this is more of the case where players lack the organizational tools necessary, especially when having to deal with a constant inflows and outflows of random strangers thanks to megaserver.
The terrible loot doesn’t help either. If they want to limit zerg farming but not totally stiff players, I thought the LA events rewards were (a) fair and (b) moderately incentivizing, as the obbys and chance for special skins were good hooks. I wish they would go back that way. 6 champ bags, some tokens and some gauntlet tickets are really bleh.
My apologies for not being clear; I was getting more information regarding an earlier post in this thread and some other questions regarding the rewards.
19 hours later and…. crickets from the devs… I add my extreme dissapointment with the direction this game is taking, crap raid dynamics without any loot. Emphasis on spending real $$. Hey I understand they need to make real $$ but this event is the wrong direction. Four winds = FAIL. I doubt I even go there enough to complete even a single acheivement in the meta… Wow, just wow. Spoon
Who wants to take bets on anet doing a mid-event revamp of boss blitz, ala the assault knights?
But would that really help? On my server even with all the re-vamping knights events failed more than 80% of the time. If you’re lucky you get shoved into overflow where it works. If not — go away and do something else because it’s pointless.
For organized guild like TTS this content is not a problem at all any more (same as teq/wurm)
It’s only a problem for people who are not in some highly organized guild, or don’t want to conform to requirements (build, behavior, not running into wrong area or boss upscales etc — this basically makes the “anti-zerg” “training” into a second job instead of having fun with the game without ruining some event for a bunch of people). So revamping right now, short of bringing back normal loot for killing things, is not going to change anything — your success will heavily depend on being in one of the well organized instances (I suppose if all regular public ignores pavilion from now on, your odds of being in organized instance might get a bit better). Which is fine. The game is getting to be less and less casual-friendly for new content, and new events are simply trying to drive that point home with each “no loot unless you do it the right way” event.
Who wants to take bets on anet doing a mid-event revamp of boss blitz, ala the assault knights?
I bet not. This was just tossed our as a quicky for the new players. I can’t imagine ANET spending an additional minute of dev time on this. They are working on the new living story release and as I already posted New LS + MS = BOOM!! Spoon

And make all exotics including precursor account bound on acquire. Has anyone seen the price of dusk recently? How is anyone going to afford $1500 golds for a precursor with all these gold nerfing?

Fixed it for you.
they totally destroyed it… don’t see a reason to play it tbh….
Agreed, and we have to pay to trigger the boss? Walked in, saw how it is, and left.

Welcome to the new era of gold sink where you have to pay in-game gold for the contents to spawn.
The next living story will hopefully require some gems to enter the instance. For example 200 gems to collect 10 rocks or 400 gems to get a buff to kill the boss.

Regardless of what anyone else says, this was never really for the people who did everything last time. It’s for the people who missed it last time. Also the many people who have complained about losing some specific skins before the Wardrobe like Fervid Censor.
If you enjoy the event for the event you shouldn’t care one way or another, and if you don’t, then whatever, don’t participate. Nonparticipation hurts no one, sort of.

And mind you, while you can disagree with the dev-direction on the Pavillion, Tman has a point.
And if reddit gives more mature feedback than whatever place you are at, you know it’s dire. :P
Since there are varying opinions in this thread, and different complaints, it would be more helpful if you quoted some of the post you had a problem with, and explained what you felt was wrong with them.

Lambents’ response-most mature and respectful! Actually it’s way the forums ask everyone to display (not always —but then the mods deal with it).
reddit—-censors many post/threads etc for many games so their unpaid mods don’t have to deal with too many posts nor is it always ‘mature’.
As for tman, not constructive in anyway, just a rude immature rant. I am sure it will be dealt with.

In Open-World content, it is just counter-intuitive to be telling people to get away from the bosses. If this were instanced content where the teams could be controlled and the group could be protected against trolling, it would be fine. But people want to participate in events. So to say that they can’t as the key to the strategy is pretty much the opposite of fun.
-Mike O’Brien
Because we can’t be angry about both?
Tss, The content isn’t that bad, but ArenaNet made the players lazy with previous content. Easy champion bags with endless amounts of laid back easy (zombie) farming, is better than a challenge, which takes some organisation, for the same rewards.
I just think the rewards for the gold reward needs to be upped, or the generic whole game speedrun/champfarm for easy loot, needs to go down. It’s obvious which is easier.

no loot, open world raids, autoattack-festing trillion-HP bosses and bad rewards. GG.
I like the idea but I do have to say they’ve taken steps backwards with rewards & mats recently. I really do wonder what they’re thinking. It’s not even worth that many APs. you get WAY more in the tournament.
Laidari is too much overpowered. Wasted ~70 tickets, 10g and all festival tokens to get absolutely NOTHING from her. She needs to cripple less, have 2 at max inv buffs and spam less red fields. HP nerf would be welcomed as well.
I am trying to kill her for 2 days already and Im seriously out of patience for this game.. aNET please do something about this. Thanks.

So no loot, no xp, and now no talking (socializing the main thing I like in mmos) in map chat even when the last boss is almost dead. This event— I really hope we never see another like it. The funny thing is most people are told not to go over to the last boss to help because it scales too much.. so while you stand around and wait please don’t talk or do anything that would constitute as fun- That is not what this game is about now.
Despite a huge negativity in this thread, I’ll try to be as constructive as I can.
The new Crown Pavillion is garbage.
That’s it. I’m out.
I have to admit I am really disappointed in the lack of loot in the Pavilion. I spent less than 30 minutes there and realized what a waste of time. If there are no loot drops, I won’t be visiting the area at all.
ANET please!!!!! I was away for over a month and saw this update and got all exited… But i got the surprise that the new pavilion is worst than ever… LONG FIGHTS ARE NOT FUN you nerfed our loot and replaced it with boring long fights the more people we have… I thought that the new mega server was so we didnt have to be all separated but more united now The more people the angrier everyone gets… STOP toying with us please do something Fast fights are more fun with so many people than long boring no rewarding one. Thumps down sorry :S
They don’t even count for your daily kills….. /cries

PvE bullet sponges, and meagre rewards…
I do not wish to sound ungrateful – I do love the architecture of the crown pavillion.
Don’t know if it has been said, but first impression is this was designed by someone who has not played GW2 much.
I would say all the devs better play the game a lot with the rest of us. We have jobs too. Get in here and deal with it like we do. Don’t assume you can figure it out based on theory.

I want to see some devs lead zergs in WvW. Turn off the Anet tag and get in there. Show us how you think it should be done, including Mumble or TeamSpeak or whatever the server is using.
