Making your personal difficulty and reward level account bound means there will be less people running low level fractals. Which means people who are late to the fractal party will have a much more difficult time finding a group since a lot of people are already above 30…good luck trying to find groups under 10 now.

I pointed this out as a potential problem exactly one year ago.

Keep dreaming if you think the 3 new fractals will make peeps interested more into fractals than before… I got no high fractal lv characters because i don’t truely enjoy dungeons. And the 3 new ones won’t change that. I’ll probably aim to do them once just to see em. And that’s it. And wanna bet there are countless more like me.

People who don’t have a high level in fractals, don’t have it because they hate the repetitiveness of fractals. Higher levels only add agony and more health/damage on bosses and more champs in trash packs. For the rest it’s just more of the same.

I don’t see a challenge in the same dull fractals only slower cause you need to plow through more health and with higher toughness (thus less damaging) gear.

Here’s an Idea since the “casual” players wont run fractals anyways but just to make sure they won’t, throw Teq right into the lvl 1 – 10 fractals. Then announce groups running the higher fractals with a specific AR requirement or pink/purple gear etc. After a while the forums will be spammed with complaints and Anet might change it back. Worth a try right?

Yeah I somewhat agree with Grump.

I’ve only completed a few fractals, just like I’ve only ever completed a few dungeon paths. Dungeon story lines and first-time runs are fun and interesting, if you have a good group of like-minded players.

Unfortunately Fractals, and Dungeons, both arbitrate rewards through repetition.

While I’m not opposing the method of rewards for those who chose to seek them, it’s a game play style that I’m just not keen on and likely will not spend my time on.
Consequently this update doesn’t draw me in, but best wishes to those who play the new fractal ladder game.

When fractals first came out everyone had to be the same level to do fractals. If you were 26 everyone had to be 26 otherwise you couldn’t do it. ArenaNet fixed that

They added the ability to reconnect.
Now account bound levels.

just change it so u CANT enter 30 + with out the correct AR lvls.

if they intend 30 + for the “skilled” players then attach AR requirments and force ppl to be “geard” for the high end pve content.

if u want to play with friend and have a casual fractal lvl 10 is perfect. please don’t come to 30+ with your casual playstyle and ruin it for us who make a lot of effort to be AR capped and worked for our ascended.

so please ANET force an ingame AR check that wont let u enter a lvl if u don’t have enough AR after lvl 30.
it would slow ppl down a tiny bit at the start but then in the long run will make every 1 better players as it would force the low AR low ascended ppl to gear up and run the lower lvls as intended.

I run fractals daily and I know how annoying it is when u see ppl die to agony dmg because they don’t know how to avoid it at 48 due to skipping 20 lvls and having 20 -25 AR and think its “enough”

It’s not really that, more “You don’t need AR up to level XX, as long as you know the fights and what to dodge”.
Going to 19 without AR is fine, even with 0 AR you should be able to survive the agony.
20-29 is a bit trickier. Going with 0 AR at those levels can be done, but you’d need to know the fights well to know exactly when to dodge. So it’s ok for fractal veterans, not beginners, as the difficulty will become much harder.

They don’t even have to be fractal veterans as long as they are good at playing the game, just warn them what attacks will inflict agony so they can avoid/prepare for it. One pug I joined had a fractal rookie (no AR, didn’t know most of the fractals) and avoided being downed entirely by the Legendary Grawl Shaman, and he was the target of his Agony attack several times.

I do agree with this; when I first started doing fractals it was without AR up to level 19. The person I was with threw me in at level 10 and eventually I got good at surviving but after 20, AR is needed or you’ll be scraped off the ground more….but still doable if you’re used to being without AR and good with timing.

Odds are very good you will find more people running them. I wasn’t about to grind out tons of levels of fractals with no reward to get all the way up to a high level to start getting a chance of drops. It just isn’t worth the time vs other game and RL activities. But now with them dropping more rewards and lower levels it is tempting to do them vs other things like champ trains.

The second part of my post was aimed at the OP, sorry. I should have worded that better.

And are people really being exclusionary to newbies because of AR? Seriously? Not only is this exactly what the OP was talking about, this is the sort of mentality Anet tried to prevent with GW2. Putting in an explicit AR check is a horrible idea and Anet will never go through with it.

Agreed on 10s, but for 20s that is exactly the point. Fractal veterans are not the people this thread is about – plus they have the sense to know when they do and when they don’t need ar and do not need advise on this anyway.
It is not good advise to give to new players, unless you want you lvl 20+ runs swamped with people who are new to fractals and have no AR, because “I read in the forums that it is fine up to 29”, and said new players being discouraged – cause dying to attacks no one else is dying to (and not because they dodged them) can be very frustrating.

Because someone has seen someone who was new and did fine without AR this does not make it the norm. How many have they seen that were not fine? It’s not that it is not doable, but it is not the optimum by far, and there is no real reason to do it. Everyone has some sort of ascended gear they can add AR to.

Finally, consider how a party with no AR would fare at the maw at 28.
If it is not ok for the whole party, why would it be ok for any one?

@Celestina: you may be able to survive all of that while reading a book on the side, good for you, but the average player does not.

@SSNeoman: It is not about being exclusive. I run often with my fractal newbie guildies and I honestly think is is better to run a few 10s until the become familiar with it and are able to get some ar before running higher. I would rather do runs specifically for them at 10, which has agony that is survivable, so they can grow to like fractals and join us, rather than have them die to every arrow that barely scratches the rest of us and hate the experience altogether.

I have no issues dodging. It’s other players that do. Without AR, you will likely get downed during the agony phases at Maw at 20+. I once saw someone in a l 24 fractal unable to make it off the block down to us at Maw because be died within seconds from agony. I have also seen numerous times of people going from 100% hp to being downed at the dredge boss in dredge fractal.

The thing is that only like 95% of the player population don’t know how to survive (read enemy attacks, etc) and use dodges. Most new players to fractals will not know which attacks to dodge and will just eat the agony. You may be able to do fine, but you do not represent the majority of the player base.
