Recall Ellen Kiel
There were no dangling chads.
Let’s just have a fractal that looks into the election. Because fractals contains an infinite number of possibilities we can see Kiel, Evon, even Skritt King win. We will then simply have to afk in LA for 4 months and enter that fractals FotM to see Thaumanova, Abbadon, etc.
Tyr Sylvison – Warrior
Illyiah – Revenant
There were no dangling chads.
No, it was outright piracy. Ellen Kiel blinded a majority of the voters with the promise of cheap WPs. Yes she came through on that promise, but it only lasted for a month. The amount of money you saved in that month time frame could have easily been made with a single CoF run. Now the cheaper BL Keys Evon promised, that would have been valuable, as people would have flocked to the Gem Store to eat up that yummy goodness.
In all seriousness, Kiel didn’t win because of WP costs. She won because joe average player that never visits the forums logged in and saw that she was clearly portrayed as the hero of the story line while Evon was portrayed as an underhanded villain.

I beg to differ, I voted for Kiel because she is human I am human and Evon is the back-stabbing random number humping leader of the the black lion rip off company.
I can’t believe so many people forgot about the insane amount of complaints due to black lion keys and the RNG… Oh wait they didn’t cause Kiel won.

Evon is a hero that saved LA from a rogue charr leader. Kiel wouldn’t be alive today if it wasn’t for him protecting the humans. Get your facts straight.
And BL Keys and RNG are still here. Voting for Kiel did nothing in that regards.

I’m not sure if you’re making that up for the sake of a whimsical thread or if you’re being earnest. In the actual dialogue and missions presented for the LS, Evon was clearly shown as an underhanded scoundrel who wanted to steal Kiel’s thunder and keep stolen goods instead of return them (as Kiel was going to). That’s the Gnashblade your average player saw and the most obvious reason he got voted down.
“As a soldier of the High Legions, Gnashblade first came to Lion’s Arch at the age of 20 as part of an Ash Legion operation to extort the people of the city under the banner of the Black Lion Trading Company. Gnashblade was by all accounts a dependable soldier who never disobeyed orders—until that day. When he raised concerns with his legionnaire, Aria Gnashfang, believing that attempting to intimidate the pirates of Lion’s Arch would not be fruitful, the disagreement led to a fight and Gnashfang was killed. The next day, the Black Lion Trading Company was established in earnest.”

At what point did he save LA? Hell his original mission was to extort the city for money.

Now the cheaper BL Keys Evon promised, that would have been valuable, as people would have flocked to the Gem Store to eat up that yummy goodness.
And there would have been much more whining about how Evon (ANet) ripped them off by giving them junk in their BL Chests.
I’ll stick with Kiel, thanks. At least her promised benefit wasn’t a poorly disguised attempt to fatten her personal wealth.
I would have preferred to see the Abaddon fractal though.
Evon is the source of RNG. So no, Kiel winning the election was better for the game..
I support this, time for her to move on. I never really liked her but when she stuttered her answer to the Zephyrite leader that was game over for her. She’s out of her depth.
How’s her investigation into the Aetherblades, they already invaded multiple times, what is she waiting for?
I support this message.
I also hear that Ms Kiel may have bought off her supporters and may have an all too cozy relationship with Captain Magnus, who may have used his own leverage to put her on the council.
These, truly malicious rumors alone should revoke her right to be on the council.
This post is in no way affiliated with Evon Gnashblade, upstanding citizen of Lions Arch, shrewd entrepreneur and true Charr of the people.
Evon is a spitting image of Yomm. I would vote for him just because of that…not to mention the fractal he offered. So many call him a greedy business man, yet not of them can make this connection to refute that claim :\

I think you need to catch up on the lore of Evon Gnashblade – Hero
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/short-story-evon-gnashblade-disembarks/
I will laugh if the thaumanova reactor’s fallout is caused by the player characters themselves.
Then we can give all the blame to Kiel and demand her resignation.
So that a true hero of the people can protect us in the council – like Evon would do.
Now that I think of it, the current lore is completely understandable :
Players wanted a nice little hero that didn’t have anything wrong with her. The majority didn’t want the shady Evon.
So the message sent was : “he want heroes to stay as heroes and seemingly bad guys to never get expanded lore”. Thus bland Scarlet was born. Thank you people who voted for Kiel because “she is nice”.
It’s just because charr are bad guys as a whole. They butchered innocent Ascalonians, and in my eye are no better than dragon minions.
I’d vote for anyone (well, except sylvari) as long as it’s not a charr.
The Charr were taking back the rightful land that was theirs. the Ascalonians took it from them. they got what they deserved. that’s why I voted for Kiel.
Server-Blackgate, are there others?
Some must fight, so that all may be free. —Amora Soulkeeper.
…some utter bullkitten I didn’t care to repeat…
I’m surprised a self-confessed TP player like yourself doesn’t curse that kittenen good-for-nothing charr every time you make less profit due to the abhorrent kittenen 15% Evon-tax?

I don’t think so. Why anyone still wastes money on those kitten keys is a mystery to me. Unless you’re really lucky, you wind up with a bunch of skritting items.
Waypoint reduction, even though it was temporary, was the better value. As for the fractals, either of them wouldn’t (won’t) give much if any story to it, so it doesn’t matter which one we got.
Please give us a keyring…
All I’m reading here is sour grapes.
Please give it up already. Kiel won, end of story.
Everyone benefited from her election promises, not just the people that voted for her.
Asking for a recall?
What possible “legal” grounds could you justify it? (keeping in mind the nature of LA’s cut-throat politics).

The 4kg make over kit from chest make it worth buying I think for those who like to gamble. Those who complain about an option rng should not denigh other option to play the lottery. and lastly they made all skins buyable on blt so cant complain about that anymore. So what is the point. Kiel was voted in cause new players wanted waypoint reduction when it only saved them 5 silver.
Gotta give those Evonists one thing, they sure are passionate. Good thing they are good sports and not mad when I pop my Ellen badge whenever I see an Evon badge – which happened like once so far.
Regardless – I would actually love to see this type of voting once a year. Of course not always with the same candidates, that would be boring.
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”
Lets just have her killed. Let recruit Scarlet. 48% of population hate her 1g each 500kg should be enough to sway her. Finally she will do something good for the world.
I feel the same, having “cheaper WP’s” actually made the win known from day one. At least from the Local chat at the time it truly felt that way.
EVON For Life!
Evon would have still reset your fractal level :p
Forever known as “that slow guardian who can’t jump worth crap”.
I’m a semi-hardcore ex-GW1 player who’s played GW2 since release.
I never cared about the two candidates’ races, or anti-villain backstories. Or the WP costs.
I voted Kiel because I wanted to see the Thaumanova fractal.
Now please go sit in a corner and eat your stereotypes.

Even if that story portrayed him as Jesus Christ, it wouldn’t effect my point: he was portrayed as a shady character in the living story, in-game, and that’s what your average players sees when they think about voting. It doesn’t matter if he’s saved buses full of nuns and babies in a side-story on the internet, he was shown trying to capture stolen goods for himself while Kiel wanted to return them and to hide around corners plotting to undermine someone else’s trade agreement for his own personal gains.
That’s where the disconnect is. The “side story” as you bring up was only on the GW2 website, but because it was lore written by Anet’s Angel McCoy, this is still a part of who Evon is.
What I don’t get is that Collin himself was an Evon supporter. For the in game storyline to reflect Evon in a negative light is still beyond me. Because we all know Kiel is the true villan here.
But when you look at the overall makeup of the population, it appears that those of us who debated the Reactor vs. Abaddon Fractal were in the minority. Most people only saw the one tangible benefit, which was lower WP costs vs. BL Keys. Then that became a crusade against RNG. And with the masses seeing cheap travel, the amount of money you saved was minuscule on a per player basis. I calculated that the most you could save one a single WP travel cost, could easily have been made by getting one Masterwork weapon/armor drop, and selling it to a merchant.
Edit – Oh yeah, there was also the negative stereotyping of charrs being evil, and humans being good. Due to that alone, Evon had a rough start, even though he was more of a hero for saving LA, than Kiel was when taking credit for all the work we did to save Southsun Cove.
(edited by Smooth Penguin.5294)
I think the WP travel thing wasn’t even the biggest factor. In order of largest to smallest, i i think the interest groups among voters were “casuals who just saw Kiel as the obvious good guy” > “players who cared about WP costs and RNG” > “people who cared about fractals”.
On top of that, you had all these subgroups that were not all mutually exclusive of each other such as “people who played GW1”, “people who didn’t play GW1”, “people who care about Abaddon”, “people who run Fractals” and “people who care about Thaumanova”. Any given person could belong to a number of these groups simultaneously.
I think ya’ll might also be discounting a very large section of people:
Those who thought the Thaumanova fractal would be cooler than the Abaddon one.
I, for one, listened to the descriptions of both fractals, and decided to vote heavily for Kiel because of it.
I think it’s futile to ponder over the past like this. BUT I actually like the idea of giving this whole system more spice. They are all pirates after all, from kidnapping to killing potential rivals everything should go. Perhaps the next election will be even more interesting. Maybe even different approaches depending on your Order, objectives you can do for your candidate…
“Whose Charr is this?”- “Ted’s.”
“Who’s Ted?”- “Ted’s dead, baby. Ted’s dead.”
That’s true. The good vs evil debate is always a good way to see things. It’s as basic as you can get, and nearly 100% of the player base could relate to it, regardless of personal background or nationality. But while people only see the surface story with one person appearing to be good, and one person appearing to be bad, there’s the back-stories that can change the whole direction of the debate. I just wish more people understood Evon as the hero, and not just as the shopkeeper with RNG wares.
As someone who used to be a hardcore gw1 player and fractal player, I voted for kiel, I started to vote for evon, but I quickly realized just what a slap in the face it would be to gw1 to have the abaddon fractal. Even at that point in time I was aware gw2 did not live up to the quality I had expected from gw1.
And on a side note, that story may depict him stopping a more violent extortion upon LA, but in reality he’s more than likely taken far more from them
Evon would have still reset your fractal level :p
don’t care to see epic battle of gods which literally vaporized and ocean into a desert would be worth it. In end we only get to see a nuclear explosion.

Well for starters, it was that event that caused it but how isn’t explain, it’s not likely that we would have seen it then turn to water. second it it doesn’t necessarily mean we would have seen the gods or even fought with them, all things considered it probably wouldn’t be any more exciting than the reactor.

The lore behind the fall of a god is much more important than the Inquest blowing up an experiment. The landscape of Tyria was forever changed in the god wars, and missing out on a chance to see just a tiny part of it is disheartening.
It wasn’t just about GW1 lore tying into GW2 lore. It’s part of the backstory of the overall GW universe.

I’m well aware of that; however, if you haven’t noticed, the game gw2 doesn’t really care about lore, and considering it’s a fractal, it doesn’t even have to be accurate, or rather, pertaining to the universe we play in.
Fractals are a tiny fragment of history that we get to play out. Lore related to any Fractal has to be accurate.

I literally had this discussion not even a month ago so i’m going to be upset if I have it wrong again. That being said, the way it was again put to me is that they went back on that wording for the uncatagorized fractal
People only assumed Evon was evil because he’s a savvy businessman. Nothing wrong with making a profit after saving a city.
again, evon didn’t save anyone from anything. he still took money from them, except instead of extortion, he opened shop.
And Rym, anyone who played and respected gw1 would never willingly allow gw2 to tarnish the lore.
Evon represents the Black Lion Company.
And in turn, the Black Lion company represents the Gem store and the Consortium, as it had consortium products.
Anyone who doesn’t like paying again and again for a skin instead for a one-time unlock like when you buy a skin DLC in most other games (including GW1), anyone who doesn’t like all those items being put behind an RNG wall instead having at least a direct purchase alternative, anyone who doesn’t like every single new armor set being added only to the gem store, anyone who doesn’t like the Consortium’s practices… they would all vote Kiel.
Not for Kiel to win, but for Evon to lose.
Kiel didn’t really have that many supporters. But Evon had enough detractors to turn the votes towards Kiel. Well, not Evon himself, but what Evon represents. Had ANet chosen a different NPC not tied to the gem store and the consortium, they may have won instead Kiel.
Fractals are a tiny fragment of history that we get to play out. Lore related to any Fractal has to be accurate.
The fractals we met are unstable. This means they may not be exactly as history was. Something may be different (sometimes you fight the mossman, sometimes the tree spirit, sometimes the dredge boss, sometimes the elemental)
This means that they could perfectly have variations of the molten fractal for lower levels in which you fight only one of the bosses instead both, or different bosses, or something different happens along the way.

Don’t be ignorrant. This is also true for the Evon fractal. You do realise the same team would have worked on it?
The fractal can also be this way: Scarlet would have created alliance with Abbadon and fail, thus resulting in Abbadon’s death.

i think that wouldnt make much sense. Why would a god ally with a turnip. Abbadon is the god of all that is known and unknown, scarlet cant play him, or offer him knowledge, he is the god of knowledge.
On the otherhand, thaumonova and scarlett make perfect sense, she is known to be affiliated with them, and probably in the same time range.
I hope they do more with abbadon, and get into him not just as the one dimensional villain, but as the god who sought to give man knowledge/power. He clashes with his brethren because he essentially believed in man more than they did.
