Rewards of Old?
I wouldn’t hold my breath on this one…
I’m somewhat optimistic that functional items may return as rare drops, like the recipes, but I don’t think we’ll see the cosmetic items again, except maybe in the gem store. OTOH, unless prices have moved drastically I don’t think it’s really necessary for the recipes to come back just yet. Most people aren’t even interested in food that isn’t +MF.

Well at least we can tell people who were hoping that Sentinel stats would return with the reintroduction to the Molten Facility, that it still won’t be obtainable for now. I believe Wooden Potatoes was looking forward to this happening.

That seems like a pretty bad decision given the price of the items that were available for only 2 weeks. I’m sorry but you’re basically limiting a stat set to only the richest of players because of the limited quanitity & extreme price of the items that dropped in there.
With the return of the dungeon, why did you decide not to include the drops as well? They could have remained rare – but a chance is better than having to buy it from the TP for an obsurd amount of gold.

In my opinion, that is a disappointing decision. If players who missed the original event were given access to these loot tables through the new Fractals, those players who earned these rewards during the original LW events would still have a significant advantage over those who would be trying to obtain them later by not having to deal with a fractal rotation to get a shot at the RNG.

It makes me wonder what will happen to other temporary recipes; like the one for dragon’s revelry starcake when dragon bash will return next year. Will they shoot this down for people who could not obtain it last year?

Its not really new info, since Colin said something months ago about the rewards not coming back due to them wanting to keep the itemsm [i]prestige[/]. Which is ludicrous, IMO. Who cares if something is rare or prestige. The only prestige you had with those items was being extremely lucky. There are many of us who constantly ran the dungeon(s) trying to get the item (which was locked behind rng in temporary content) but were not lucky in the rng drops. And many of us do not have the gold needed (both now or at the time of the temp content) to buy the thing off the TP (which is only controlled by the top 1-5%, or market extortionists). They should be brought back as rewards for either the corresponding dungeon fractal (might not be possible due to all fractal chests using same list, which may or may not be the case) or with the end boss (maw event fractal thing, which would/should have its own list of possible item drops, thus the better option).

Not bringing back dungeon rewards, increasing the cost of recipes drastically (ie Halloween item recipes), 1 use only LS reward skins, etc, etc. They have the tools already to enable any of the stuff to be brought back (champ bag for end of fractal, leave recipe cost alone, put LS achievement rewards in the AP panel thing), they just choose not to do it, all in the name of making stuff prestige and making it alt unfriendly.

It’s kind of disappointing even though most of the rewards got shuffled around for the better, but nothing interesting reward wise was added to fractals. No returning temporary content rewards, or new unique rewards that justify a full run (other then a new tonic) in my opinion.

This justification revolves around the concept of “earning luck”, something that us mere players can never comprehend: our lowly state of mind can never be on the same mental plane. /sarcasm
I dunno if its new from the ascended weapon patch but , Sentinel insigna for weapons are available in the guild commendation vendor. Perhaps the same will happen when armors of ascended level gets here.

It’s prestige gear, it doesn’t change the game at all. But some people either worked their kitten off by running those dungeons again and again or maybe just super lucky (and no I wasn’t one of them). You got your dungeons back, why undermine the prestige items of others in the process.
Some of the people in this thread would be super upset if they got a nice drop once, that was 1000’s gold worth, only to have it trivialised later and made worth 2 gold.

As someone who farmed a lot the Molten Facility for the jetpack (and found none) and that has got a monocle in like three runs of Aetherblade Retreat, i disagree.
Things that depend on rng can’t be really earned – either you are lucky, or you are not.
In the end, the best solution was the one applied for SAB content.
If you are lucky you can drop the sellable version, but you can still work for an account bound one. Or earn a different coloured version not available in any other way via tribulation mode, but there is still no luck involved, just effort.

No they are soldiers. The power and vit are inverted in Sentinel’s.
The idea here is that a stat set should not be aviliable to one group of people in game bassied on how rich they are or tehy were at teh right place and right time to get it.
What if say, Berzerker’s was removed and rubies were only available in one temporarily content?
The playerbase as a whole would be in an uproar. Then, again some people would be happy. Yet then only the people that have zerker already will be allowed into content/parties.

I ran that dungeon well over 75 times on multiple characters and never got the jetpack to drop – the only reason I was in there. More specifically, I stopped counting at 75 times. Ran that place to death.
Saying people ‘earned’ something in this situation is a bad choice of words at the very least. You can’t ‘earn’ anything in GW2, you can only be patient enough to be lucky enough to have a chance at any goals.
I’m sure glad all those people that I partied with that only ran it once and “OMG I gots teh jetpack!!” ‘earned’ it while I didn’t. When exactly did I sign up to be an NPC to escort players through dungeons with no rewards?

I ran the Molten Facility dungeon to death too, and I have my jetpack to show for it. Actually, no. I ended up buying it off the TP toward the end of F&F because Lady Luck was clearly not smiling on me.
Personally, I feel as though equating getting lucky to “earning” something is an excuse for lacking a properly developed reward structure. I loved Molten Facility, but I’m not going to believe for a moment that winning the lottery is synonymous with effort & skill.
As a proud owner of the jetpack, I would love to see others finally have the chance to acquire it & the monocle. That, plus azurite orbs.
I noticed on reddit a few people brought up the point that Anthony said “…at this time.” Which could be interpreted that down the line they might put them back in. But that still raises the question why not have the Azurite Crystal or Temporary Special Consumable Recipes tied to a vendor in the fractal HUB? More options to spend those pristine fractal relics. Or even have it as a universal drop that could happen in any fractal?
I mean they had a development time of 4 months to think that over, even if Colin told them not too. Which is also interesting because one of the argument over the second iteration of SAB and the Aetherblade path in TA was about shallow rewards. You think they would have thought during the development cycle: “hey, we should work to improve said reward system for our next upcoming project?” Why not use something you already have in game? You see when you work on an update of this caliber you try to make it a well rounded update, and improve on things that did not work the first time around. Which by all means they are going to improve on other aspects of fractals with this update.
It still makes me wonder even with the old rewards of fractals being improved/streamlined, why not add old temporary content for the veterans to strive for. Is the new rune set, sigil, tonic, and leader boards really enough for someone who has mastered fractals before to do it all over again?

I think the sentinel issue will be resolved with ascended armour, just like it was for weapons. And anyway, you only need the 2 main pieces, for the others the difference is really trivial.
Back then, they cost 3g on the tp. New players can complain sure, but whoever played then and wanted them should had got them.
The backpack is a cosmetic item. While I agree rng is never good, it does not affect the game whether it is available again or not.

Sentinel Gossamer Insignias will almost certainly be available from the Guild Commendation traders when Ascended armor crafting is released, just as the Sentinel Orichalcum Inscriptions are available there now. Likewise, Azurite will almost certainly be released again (probably via a Home Instance node) when r500 Jeweler is available.
I’m also a bit disappointed by Anthony’s info, but I take some hope at least in the “at this time” remark. Perhaps eventually they’ll include other ways to acquire things like the Jetpack, Monocle and recipes. I agree that ANet should take a page from the SAB for them; make it so players can earn account bound versions purchased with Pristine Fractal Relics. It gives players a way to earn them over time, doesn’t shock the market since stuff like the new Jetpack and Monocle can’t be sold, and it gives players something to do with Pristine relics once they already have all the Ascended rings they want.
+1 to the posts referencing SAB’s system.
I’d definitely love to actually earn account bound versions of those skins.
If people don’t want to be challenged at getting them then they can always resort to farming or buying gold (whatever fits their fancy) and buy the tradable versions (make them a rare drop from the fractals like how it was before the dungeons became fractals).
Having a jetpack sitting in the bank as an investment I really hope they don’t bring them back… at least not for a while. I didn’t “get lucky” and get one as a drop. I spent the coin to invest in one. I can understand items like azurite and recipes but the skins shouldn’t be brought back any time soon.
I ran Molten Facility fractal last night and the mithril nodes inside did give azurite crystals. Did not see any orbs though.
I knew they would not bring the molten jetpack or monocle back. Before Fractured the jetpack went from 100gish to 400-600g and since insider trading has been confirmed it seems right to assume those items will not drop in their fractals.
The azurite orbs are not there because the orichalcum node has been removed.
