Tarnished Coast, what has happened?
The idea of assigning labels to servers isn’t a terrible one. Although, I have to disagree with you on the notion that TC has declined in any way. I would say that the community is just as stable, if not more so, than it has ever been.
Just because a server is designated as a ‘roleplay’ server does not mean that only roleplayers are welcome there. Almost all of the people that I know of who have come to the server recently made an educated decision to come to TC because of the community aspect and our overall level of maturity. They may or may not have any interest in RP but they all have a strong interest in finding a strong, stable community to join.
You also have to realize that ever since guesting we have been seeing a lot of people from other servers guest to TC for PvE because our PvE community is so active. Not everyone that you see running around is necessarily a member of the Coast.

No server can be officially labeled as something other than what it is, a server. TC is the ‘unofficial’ RP server because more people do it there than anywhere else, but you have to expect that when you guys are in T2 in WvW, you’re also going to get people playing for other reasons. There is no reason to deny them the right and support they deserve to play what they want while you enjoy the same luxuries!
Karuna,
Just like it was in other MMO’s a server that is designated as Role Play only means to let people know what type of server it is up front. And I am sorry, if I feel that a Role Play server has added elements the development team didn’t put in the game. They offer players an immersible level of game play that won’t be found elsewhere. I realize the guesting and they too are trolling our dragon timers as well.
Perhaps your experiences have been better than mine as of recent. I encourage you to spend a few hours in Queensdale and see what I am talking about. It’s a lot more prevalent than you think.
Dusk,
You are saying it can’t be labeled? Other MMO’s have server tags on their servers for a reason. It’s the same exact reason you point out. So that equally paying customers are fully aware that they can create a character on a server that more properly suits them. I can assure you, my WoW buddies can’t stand role play and will mock people that do it. They’re PvP mentally suited individuals and as such they aren’t comfortable being around role play. For them not to know that by example unless I told them, is it fair for them to start on a server only to find that out later?
The point about “they paid their 60 dollars” so they can play the game however they want is as pointless as saying “we were all born into this world” so we should all have equal sense about ourselves. Paying for something doesn’t validate anyone’s right to grieve, disrupt or put simply be an idiot. If you pay for tickets to a baseball game, go there and start being a tool, then claim you paid just like everyone else did so you can do as you please, will security not kick you out? Exactly.
People have this misconception that because it’s “Online” they no longer have to actually be respectful towards others and they can get away with it because in some way it isn’t real. I guarantee if there was a (GM) tag placed on someones head, nobody would show disrespect.
Other MMOs do something like that, yes, but ANet has taken a stance of specifically not doing that. Perhaps the better word is that they won’t label it, as opposed to they can’t. It’s the same reason they won’t make PvP servers and PvE servers. All servers do all things as ANet wanted. If the players want to come together and create an unofficial community of X, Y, or Z on a server, then it is their prerogative to do so, and fully up to them to maintain.
So…avoid Stifflers Mom? I’m not really sure what the point of this thread is other than to vent, so vent away! Just an FYI from my experience RP servers attract the opposite of the mature crowd, because people just want to grief RP’rs. It’s better they remain unlabeled and unofficial, believe me.
RIP my fair Engi and Ranger, you will be missed.
