In fairness when people see a halloween image on the gem store, which are attached to the option to buy keys, then there are going to be some that buy it. Maybe thinking that “well, the Gem Store is showing a pumpkin and is trying to make me buy keys”.

Hrm I saw the advertisement for awhile stating that the update was to be applied on 10/22, I proceeded to log in, saw the advertisement on the Trading Post that shows a Halloween background that says “Discover the secrets of the Black Lion Chest” and it directly links to Black Lion keys. Like I said, it’s a bit misleading at best.

i guess GemStore should have been updated with the patch… There’s allways someone who cant really think and will open the chests :p (i’m just saying Anet should allways be prepared for the worst case scenario)

I bought 200 chests, and I have no plans to open them until I see a smoking cauldron and creepy costumes in LA. Only then will I KNOW that I have a chance at goodies I want!

nope, I saved a bunch of gold for when everyone is buying gems with cash for the event (selling the extra gems) and the market price of gold to gems changes. (preferably goes down.) If it doesn’t I’ll sepnd some gold and maybe some cash with it. Since I have a decent chance to get keys from the boxes I won’t need 200 keys (unless I’m really unlucky.)

if all else fails I can sell 50 of them once the price goes up so I can purchase more keys

I had asked this question in another thread but i wanted to know will all of the halloween items released on the tp be available today, or as phases unlock
really dont want to blow all of my gems on day one to discover newly released items

You should probably change the name of the topic to “Black Lion Chests NOT Updated Yet” since the current title seems to imply that they HAVE been updated at first glance.

Its working but dont bother trying. The chances of getting them are extremely low.

Some people have gotten items.. but as you will notice in the other thread.. The drop rate is insanely low. Your odds of getting something out of even 100 chests to slim at best.

Yah, what a ripoff. This is the sort of thing that makes me want to play something else.

I used every key that I had saved for the entire time I’ve played and didn’t get a single thing. Pretty monumentally disappointed.

I had about 35 chests open, no halloween stuff in any of them… I would recommend nobody buy keys unless you feel like dropping hundreds of dollars.

Yeah, I bought 4 sets of 5 keys. Not only did I NOT get any weapon skins, I didnt get a single Halloween themed item.

Those will be the last black lion keys I buy for any event. Would have made more money off of me selling one time use skins individually, but I didnt see the option in the shop anywhere.

I bought enough keys to open over 30 chests. Not a single Halloween item. If you’re running an event and expect people to pay $20 for 10 keys, you should be able to get something, that or just put the items in the store so there is no gambling with real money. I feel like I’m playing every other F2P now, that was disappointing.

If you watched the AN Website and the video you will notice that Lions Arch is all Halloween theme. Wouldn’t this be a clue?

That Nexon influence strikes again. The work that went in to the event was amazing, but a little warning about the event skins being a ridiculously low drop rate would have nice.

People spending half of what they paid for the game on a chance for a single holiday themed item? I have never had any problem buying the costumes. But this was really shady business. I’m hoping it’s a bug or misplaced decimal point because this isn’t ArenaNet’s style at all.

They wouldn’t want to warn us about the skin drop rate—they’d make less money that way. Let’s face it, ANet isn’t the company they were back during GW1 times anymore—they’re just out for a quick buck now. Sad to say it, but that drop rate just reinforces that thought.

It doesn’t matter. They’re not going to refund everyone who just blew more than what the game costs to buy out right, even the mistake will be covered up and the backlash taken. I feel you, it is exactly a Nexon tactic.

@MrLee, I bought 20 keys after the patch. The event was well underway. Not only that but I ended up getting twice as many gems as ordered and charged twice because of an error with the market. Oddly enough, I am more understanding of the double charge (because it is a web-based market and there was a lot of traffic) than I am of the absurdly low chance of getting Halloween items from a chest advertised to contain Halloween items during a Halloween event.

Instead I have four sets of fifty non-stackable black lion harvesting tools.

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice shame on me. Black Lion chests are going straight into the TP from now on. Seven years of GW, GW2 CE, Art book, soundtrack, 100 mile drive to pre-release event for T-shirt item and signed poster…and I can say this is the first time I have ever been disappointed in giving Anet my money.

I spent a bit of money for keys and honestly I am a bit discouraged with the low drop rate. In my opinion, it is better to reward the people who are willing to spend money to try to get the gear….it will positively reinforce the decision of spending money so that they might do it again in the future. At the moment I really don’t think I will be spending money again trying to get keys for the chests for this or any other event.
