Craftable Halloween Weapons...
arenanet is burning its bridges in my book and all I have to say is that I don not approve of their lies pertaining to not having to grind to get what players want, I’ve been playing this game since the headstart and it is my only hobby, I still could never afford to get the perma items through crafting, not even the recipes. so arenanet who may i ask is this content aimed towards? the vast majority of your customers or is it aimed towards the people that live breathe and eat mmo’s? because I have a job and I sleep and believe it or not I can’t play Guild Wars 2 24/7 just to have something to remind me of Halloween 2012. If this is how every event wil be then I will stop playing this horrible game because I am not in it to compete I am playing the game so I can enjoy it….stop trying to hard to make it unenjoyable for the average player please.
FYI everyone else, $20 US exchanges into about 9g in game so it would cost around $100 to aquire these items with real money where is the fun in having to buy things over and over again? I paid for this game so I could have fun and at every turn you are taking the fun away and trying to paint a funny face on it which isn’t the same as fun.

Erm halloween event ends on 28th
Meh. I find events that require farming kind of boring.
Kinda a bummer. Was hoping I could craft it before the end of the event…..Not make it some long term goal for me.
I am hoping that this is similar to the destroyer weps though, where a componant plus the Ancient Staff heads/shafts plus inscription = the weapon.
Not some thing you need to craft then add it in the forge with a bunch of other random crap.
Can a mod help with this?!? Shed some light on this matter?!?!?!??
After the gift is made, is it just the 2 weapon parts and a inscription?!!?
Or is it some weird random Mystic forge recipe and the Gift is part of it!?!?!?

What exactly are you asking.. the look or the formula? Someone wrote the formula yet
This Halloween update is turning out to be quite a disapointment when it comes to the event related gear, with a significant number of the stuff actually hid away behind either a gem or a significant gold sink.
In my opinion, seasonal holiday events should be about fun and the weapons/gear related to them should be reasonably easy to obtain – at least to the degree that players should be able to enjoy their holiday themed items during the said holiday event itself – after all, obtaining exotic weapons in this game isn’t difficult and there are already plenty of the very costy prestige weapons to choose from (if you want to work towards one).
By including the 100 lodestones to the recipes, you are already looking at spending 100g to 150g on the stones alone for a single gift (never mind the costs of what else the weapons actually require). Now if the goal was to implement Halloween themed weapons that a regular player is able to afford maybe in January – then I guess these will do the trick… Maybe it is just me but that sort of defeats the whole idea of seasonal holiday themed weapons.
That recipe disgust me…
so Anet want ppl to grind non-stop for the next two weeks just to be able to get a different skin.
Totally defeat the idea of holiday event…
The skins are posted on Guru:
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/news/842-official-update-notes-database-updates-including-new-skins/
They look cool, but I’m not sure if they are really worth the effort.
There are also recipes for new craftable potions, runes etc.
They don’t at all. Don’t worth to spend 1 cent/copper for keys attempting trillion chests. Nor waste months for a weapon like this.
I believe that these are the ones crafted with gifts (so called mini legendaries)
Bow looks good, but shield and staff T_T those are really not worth it
Do you actually need teh temporary weapon to craft it?
Because if so, it’s just not doable with the money + dungeon token requirements in the timeframe..
I propose the people with massive transmutation stones make them, transmute them to other items and flood the TP with them so everyone gets a chance to obtain the skins lol. Halloween is supposed to be FUN…not something most people would rather avoid. I remember in GW1 how excited I would get to see the new hats and items that pretty much everyone had a chance to obtain with just participating in some SIMPLE quests or events. As long as they had FUN, they had a chance to get some cools things. Can we please go back to this model? xD
Agree, gw1 events was so beautiful and fun, and take all rewards time well spent.
Shrugs, i completed the books and monthly achevement, i’m done with this event.

So let’s say, Colin, that I have my girlfriend level 50+ she doesn’t play much, and well she does really like actually the Spider Bow, that means she needs to use over 125g to buy Lodestones, and the whole recipe.. I really don’t know what to think anymore, I remember going to LA in GW1 and changing an amount of “Christmas candy” for theme weapons, and everyone was happy with it, even if it was a white item that in the end you couldn’t use, but this is outrageous.
I do think the dresses with the skills and the design are totally worth the gems they cost, the minipets as well, they are lovely, beautiful and the hood is as well a pretty cool hat.
But then you come to Gamble us like in Aion with those chest, that has a chance, MINIMAL nonetheless to give you a skin, and in the top of that the crafted skins cost you kitten loads of money to do. Lodestones, really? can’t you see the demand there is already, but even put more into it? Why you don’t make it fun? I’m starting to lose a bit the patience with the company, the game itself is lovely, but you are making decisions not worth the effort, I don’t know, I hope you guys start putting down how many mats we need and more things, this should be accessible for everyone and not some selected guys, some of us plays not so many hours, others like me a bit more, but even then, I don’t wanna grind, I wanna have fun with my whole guild, NOT this, I just can go back to Aion for it.
EDIT: 1 Destroyer Lodestone is around 1,5g EACH at this moment.
(edited by Alur.7510)
Yep. I guess they didn’t realize they was going to ruin the tp. Let’s not mention gem’s price.
@Lucas Ashrock.8675
I just don’t realize how they didn’t put the skins for sale directly in TP some of them, and not the gamble (cause in the next days people is going to stop directly buying BLChest, in my server is the only thing in LA are talking about) and the crafteable weapons as I stated up, are just insane pool of money.
But yea, let’s wait for a Dev response on why this “decisions”.
So if I get this right,
If I’m just a lowly level 31 with not enough time to live in Tyria 24/7 the halloween event is not really of any interest to me?
Unless I buy gems?
What a change from GW1 where events were fun and not only for no-lifers.
Wasn’t the whole anti-grind set up part of GW2’s appeal?
Gee, I guess I can always wait for next years halloween hmm? :/
I agree with everyone here, the requirements are silly to craft these items. This should be about fun and relaxing with everyone not being a grind. I cant believe that for me this is so out of reach and also so out of touch with its community. All this is succeeding in doing is making me go looking somewhere else to have fun with my friends than pull me in to the game. Such a let down…
On the positive side, graphics and atmosphere is amazing, just hope its not just a gloss that will soon loose its appeal.
next year’s Halloween????
if Anet stick with this tedious model….by the time next Halloween hit the player-base would have left already.
A not so fun event patch that only serve the purpose of draining ppl’s money. Heck I bought the witch costume and I am happy with it. There is no gamble, no bs grind…
They could just make those seasonal skin in gem store directly so ppl can just buy them instead of spending money buying those idiotic keys to unlock a dumb chest with terrible RNG.
(edited by Whitenight.5106)
Well, guess I’m selling the mats I get. Weapon skins were the most exciting part of the holiday for me, but there’s pretty much no way for me to do all that AND have school. My highest character is level 40 anyway, so I literally can’t get some of the dungeon gifts… guess I’ll just do what I was already doing in the game, only it happens to be Halloween.
“Tarnished Coast” since head start!
I’m upset that they’ve set this “event” up to be exactly the same year after year. There’s no other explanation for this kind of setup. Honestly, it’s just too soon to set such a standard. Maybe next year (or the year after that), people will have Banks full of dungeon Tokens and other craft materials just waiting for a use.
Ok, I have seen 2 different variations of crafting the weapons and/or gifts. The weapon recipe consists of using w/e + 100 lodestones + gift of (spider, moon etc) and I have also seen recipes to craft the gifts themselves also needing 100 lodestones… does this make sense? I doubt you need 200 lodestones for one weapon, thus meaning some info is wrong. I have yet to see a confirming picture showing off what you need to craft the actual weapons nor the gifts, just the gift recipes from the mystic forge.
Hmm… If things really are that expensive that’s quite a let down tbh. At the moment I can only play a few hours a day in the evenings due to a giant pile of schoolwork. I was hoping to be able to get at least one weapon skin or something shiney like that x’D
And well, I gues the previous mmo I played kinda tought me already gamblingis a bad idea… So no opening a crapload of BLC’s for me…
Besides this I do like the update however. New jumping puzzles, different achievements and DE’s… I approve

This sentence is basically true but only to the point one gets his fairly accessible exotic set. Getting resources for this is easy for anyone who has discovered most of the world locations and I like this way of “getting nice stuff just by playing” very much. If it comes to legendary weapon its insane gold/time requirements make it completely useless thing to do for anyone who has a life besides GW2.
What I don’t like is you have applied the same grind-for-fancy-stuff philosophy to the festival, which should be time when people have fun doing some weird stuff and get appropriate rewards. This is not a right direction I’m afraid.
250 ori…
100 lodestones…
…
Seriously guys, think it over.

So.. what do I do with the Gift of Souls/Moon? Anyone know? They say we can craft them all year long. So is there something like a guy who exchanges your gift for the halloween weapons or what?
If you want to have fun over the holiday, and don’t want these LONG TERM GOAL weapons… just use the cheap 4hour skins? some with easily not-even-that-farmable hand-ins? Why is there so much whine?
If there is no long term achievement there is no game, if everything is handed out easily, people will just not bother playing.
Why don’t YOU whining bunch of entitled kittens just enjoy playing the fun parts of the game.
They are not FORCING you to get these weapons, they are not game changing, they are aesthetic. If you want the halloween fun look for halloween.. theres those skins I just mentioned.. same effect for all those casuals with not a lot of time top play.
Sorry guys, but these are extremely unique skins that SHOULD be difficult to obtain.
Once you have the recipes and the Halloween mats, you can take your time and get the rest, you do not HAVE to finish this by the end of the event.
Let’s all take a step back and breathe. The entire point of a video game is to play it. It’s not a “grind” for the item if you take your time and work on it during normal play. If you want it right away, of course you’ll have to grind. This is the nature of gaming.
The problem is lodestones are already in huge demand, use some other items kitten

The recipe shouldnt cost 12 kittening gold to make, then. Give everyone a chance to work toward it, not people who are already rich.
I have to say I share everyones disappointment, BUT, I hope that as long as you gather the recipe components and the temporary skins I would imagine it is quite possible to craft these weapons AFTER the event is finished. It would be nice if a dev could confirm this though.
The real issue here is with the cost of the components though. Halloween items should NOT cost more than a legendary to make which is how it stands at the moment. This is supposed to be a fun temporary even and should not be a major grind that can only be completed by a few and using 100 lodestones at 1G+ each per gift is out of the reach of 99% of the player base I would expect.
I would appeal for a quick change to this – perhaps use 10 rather than 100 lodestones which would at least put it within the reach of a greater proportion of players.

This already has been confirmed So long as you buy the recipe from the vendor within the holiday, you can craft these items whenever you like.
Agree loadstones wasn’t the best choice, but wouldn’t make any difference, whatever it was people would have jumped on it and made them expensive anyway, just happened these were already pricey.
but I want all the cool skins with no effort and I want them now!
ANET you must be crazy asking ppl to play your game in order to obtain things!
When you put new items in the game, you must put them in every player’s mailbox so that we can come here and complain about the lack of challenges.
(/sarcasm)
seriously, what do you want? Everything is optional and can be acquired just playing the game…

As said, Halloween event weapons should NOT require more resources/cost than a legendary. I want fun; THAT is not fun.

Something with a unique cool skin should not require more (?) resources than another item with unique cool skin ? And I think that this is because you stated so, isn’t it ?
If that is true what I’m reading here it is a huge disappointment and a very big step back from GW1 and all those great words they have made.
For once I agree – remembering fondly the way event items were handled in GW1, this just seems outrageous.
Are you kidding me ANET? What the kitten is this?
Good job on the festival….you’ve ruined it for everyone.
Well, this is disappointing. Smells like Nexon/NCSoft meddling to me; but then, I’m getting kind of tired of trying to attribute the uninspired grind and half-finished systems from launch to publisher pressure.
Guess it’s a good thing I don’t really want any of these skins so I won’t be going insane trying to farm them, but I’m sad that I seem to keep saying that about a distressingly large portion of the game’s big dangling carrots.

The legendary is supposed to be something for everyone to strive towards, hence why theres actually an achievment for it and part of the login screen. Halloween weapons everyone WANTS to be a bit of fun, something smaller that they can attain. As it is this is another 1% item which for an event item just isnt in the spirit of what many of us expected based on Anets past statements.
Don’t forget these items can be made after halloween is over. All you really need is the 250 candy corn and 100 of either nougat, p. fangs, c. skulls for the item you want. After that you can take as much time as you want to make the weapon.

Seriously? You find it acceptable that to get these weapons you will likely need to grind for weeks (if you play a reasonable amount of time each day) plus almost none of the ingredients are even related to the event itself.
In GW1 you could get awesome weapon skins and such purely through buying them with event related drops or items. Yes, some of these might have required you to grind a bit, but it could be easily done over the course of a weekend or so.
I use to look forward to these events because I knew if I put a reasonable amount of time into it I could most likely get something really awesome out of it. But now I would practically need to take the entire week off work and play for almost the entire day each day if I am to have even a chance of gaining these items before the event ends.
So yes, I am incredibly disappointed this.
Are we sure that the way to go is this?
1.Halloween stuff in Mystic forge=Gift Recipe
2.Make Gift with regular stuff as a 400 crafter
3. Mix Gift with other regular stuff as 400 crafter
4.Use or sell
Because that doesn’t make sense. For one, it’s a lot of grind for a weapon that is only Exotic. Especially since I’ve seen conflicting things all over the internet about this. Secondly, Anthony Ordon already said you don’t need to be a max crafter so either he’s lying or we’re all very confused:
You don’t necessarily need weaponsmith maxed, but the permanent craftable weapons are level 80. And they are sellable.
So here are my questions:
-Why would they make a person work so hard for a Gift recipe only to force them to be 400 level to craft it? I’m not going to sell it to someone else or even give it to a Guildie to craft for me! I want the recipe for myself!
-Why is this not a Mystic forge recipe?
-Second question – are the weapons themselves a Mystic forge recipe? As in, get a 400 Artificer to make the Gift and then use the Gift+other items in the Mystic forge to make the weapon myself?
-Third, what are the other items? The only recipes listed in this thread are the Recipes to get the Gift Recipe and the Gift Recipe itself. No one has mentioned how to make the actual weapons.
Come on posters, we can put ours heads together and figure this out!
Why don’t YOU whining bunch of entitled kittens just enjoy playing the fun parts of the game.
.
Which is..?
I see a number of posts comparing GW1 events with GW2, and I’m really surprised that people are saying the GW2 event falls short. Especially less than 12hrs into the event. Let’s do a little comparison between the GW1 Halloween event, and the GW2 Halloween event.
GW1 – Decorations
GW2 – Decorations
GW1 – Special loot drops from foes
GW2 – Special loot drops from foes
GW1 – Costume Brawl – free access, limited to one instanced area/arena
GW2 – Costume Brawl – free access in limited area, open world access when a costume is purchased through the gem shop.
GW1 New content in the form of quests
GW2 New content in the form of dynamic events and jumping puzzles (and who know what else as the week goes on)
GW1 Halloween hat acquired through farming candy corn for a token
GW2 Halloween hat acquired at no cost through gem store by clicking a button. Oh, you have to click twice.
GW1 No event themed weapon skins
GW2 A variety of event themed weapon skins that can be temporary or permanent, depending on how much work you put into getting them. Crafted skins are tradable.
GW1 No minis
GW2 Special event themed minis purchased through the gem shop.
I don’t even know where to begin with crafting and character customization. Using inexpensive materials that I’ve gathered, and using regular crafting recipes (nothing from the Mystic Forge) I’ve crafted awesome armor and weapons that are perfect for my Necromancer (this is her Holiday, after all ). Add in the robust dye system, and I have no desire for costumes or special skins for her. She looks wicked!
Eventually, I’ll probably get the bow for my ranger, but I don’t feel the pressure to do it RIGHT NOW! As the week plays out, it’ll give me a pretty good idea of what I need to do to get it, be it this Halloween, or next. Not having the bow skin in the first day of the event certainly isn’t going to stop me from enjoying the rest of the week.
I’m sure there’re are more ways to compare, and I’m sure there are a few things from GW1 that I prefer over GW2, but overall, I’m really liking this GW2 event. Seems like there’s a lot more to discover and enjoy.
What kind of armor if I may ask? Care to share screenshots?
Well, unfortunately gaming has become all about the “I want it all, right at this very second”. I don’t want to have to work for anything, or just enjoy other aspects of the game…I want this one thing and if I don’t get it then I’m going to quit playing and take it to the forums.
My favorite thing about all the complaining is that we’re only 25% into the actual event, we’re on Act I of IV and people are complaining like there’s absolutely nothing else coming through the pipe between now and Halloween.
It’s not even a matter of patience at that point, but just not comprehending how a “Four Act” event works.
What kind of armor if I may ask? Care to share screenshots?
I’m curious as well what he made for his Necro considering there’s no Halloween specific armor recipes.
I’m not normally one to complain about what ANet does but the requirements for these weapons is absolutely ridiculous. I’m starting to wonder if they even realize how difficult it is to amass that amount of money and mats (especially the lodestones). Very disappointed :\
