Craftable Halloween Weapons...
I would share screenshots if I had any idea how to go about doing it on this forum :p . Can I post images in this forum?
You can link images or post them as an attachment. But no [img] tags do not work.
What kind of armor if I may ask? Care to share screenshots?
I’m curious as well what he made for his Necro considering there’s no Halloween specific armor recipes.
Well you can create shoulder armor, but I thought that’s about it…
I hate to use the WoW word here.. but holiday events in WoW gave EVERYONE nice, permanent, fun, items..
Then there was a second tier of slightly more rare items…
Then another tier…
and then a super rare tier (certain items from horseman).
But everyone got cool kitten.

I don’t even know where to begin with crafting and character customization. Using inexpensive materials that I’ve gathered, and using regular crafting recipes (nothing from the Mystic Forge) I’ve crafted awesome armor and weapons that are perfect for my Necromancer (this is her Holiday, after all ). Add in the robust dye system, and I have no desire for costumes or special skins for her. She looks wicked!
Do share these inexpensive recipes you have found because the only ones I have found so far are the excessively expensive ones.
im loving this event i was even happy to buy the costume and minpets but the rng on the chests and the shear amount of materials needed for the crafted staff i think ill avoid which is a pain ill admit it does look good just not farm for 6 months good

I think she’s just being very misleading. There are no craftable armor skins. You can get shoulder pieces from Black Lion Chests randomly or you can buy the Town Clothes skins off the Gem store. That’s it. As far as weapons, you can get skins from Black Lion Chests (Scythe Staff, etc.) totally randomly or you can do the epic grind for the Exotic weapons.
She probably just made regular armor and weapon that most of us already are wearing on our character. I’m not sure why she threw in the “I have a Necro and this is my holiday” part, as if she crafted holiday specific stuff, because that is simply not true. Unless you want to craft the Mad King Sigils and Runes for your stuff, but that’s it.

A lot of new armor mentioned here, no clue how to get it though
I was wondering if there was a recipe to make the vendor staff you can buy with candy corn or coin? I’d like to have a perm version of this if possible.

Read the thread first, we have been discussing that for 4 pages so far dude. And we only know part of the recipe.
Don’t forget these items can be made after halloween is over. All you really need is the 250 candy corn and 100 of either nougat, p. fangs, c. skulls for the item you want. After that you can take as much time as you want to make the weapon.
You’re forgetting you also need 40 elonian wines which is about 12 gold. Not everyone has that to blow on JUST recipe, let alone the 300 gold in mats you need to actually make it.
Is there a recipe for these weapons (the NON-BLC weapons) or is there only a recipe for the gift known so far?

Yea but you don’t need to gather those this week. As long as you gather the Halloween items this week, you can discover the Gift Recipe in the Mystic Forge at any time of year.
I see a number of posts comparing GW1 events with GW2, and I’m really surprised that people are saying the GW2 event falls short. Especially less than 12hrs into the event. Let’s do a little comparison between the GW1 Halloween event, and the GW2 Halloween event.
GW1 – Decorations
GW2 – DecorationsGW1 – Special loot drops from foes
GW2 – Special loot drops from foesGW1 – Costume Brawl – free access, limited to one instanced area/arena
GW2 – Costume Brawl – free access in limited area, open world access when a costume is purchased through the gem shop.GW1 New content in the form of quests
GW2 New content in the form of dynamic events and jumping puzzles (and who know what else as the week goes on)GW1 Halloween hat acquired through farming candy corn for a token
GW2 Halloween hat acquired at no cost through gem store by clicking a button. Oh, you have to click twice.GW1 No event themed weapon skins
GW2 A variety of event themed weapon skins that can be temporary or permanent, depending on how much work you put into getting them. Crafted skins are tradable.GW1 No minis
GW2 Special event themed minis purchased through the gem shop.I don’t even know where to begin with crafting and character customization. Using inexpensive materials that I’ve gathered, and using regular crafting recipes (nothing from the Mystic Forge) I’ve crafted awesome armor and weapons that are perfect for my Necromancer (this is her Holiday, after all ). Eventually, I’ll probably get the bow for my ranger, but I don’t feel the pressure to do it RIGHT NOW! As the week plays out, it’ll give me a pretty good idea of what I need to do to get it, be it this Halloween, or next. Not having the bow skin in the first day of the event certainly isn’t going to stop me from enjoying the rest of the week.
I’m sure there’re are more ways to compare, and I’m sure there are a few things from GW1 that I prefer over GW2, but overall, I’m really liking this GW2 event. Seems like there’s a lot more to discover and enjoy.
too bad the hats you get in this game are kitteny useless town clothes.
Ok, let’s see if this works. Sorry for the bad resolution – I can never remember how to screenshot without the UI. Anyway, I think my Necro is totally ready to rock Halloween!
And for everyone who’s wondering what recipes I used, none were Halloween specific; they were regular crafting recipes (I thought I said that in my original post). I’m sorry if you felt I was being misleading, Leiloni. I thought I was clear when I said “regular” crafting recipes. I just wanted to make the point that you don’t have to have event items to look the part, or have fun.
(edited by Sister Sola.8109)
You did Sola, you just also mentioned Halloween and how it was a Necro’s holiday after all, which led many to believe you used Halloween recipes. You just were very misleading.
For anyone curious, Sola is wearing the Masquerade set. I used to have it on my Ele. The insignia is bought with Karma from the tailoring vendor and can be made at varying character levels (except the mask and boots are from something else).
Oh…well, considering you’ve mentioned it into the event related post, and made further reference to Halloween being Necro’s holiday, we all thought you actually crafted something related.
Gem store Arvid.
The Mad King’s Outfit and Witch’s Outfit (page 2-3) sure, but the exotics (page 1) as well? Can’t access the game at this moment.
I see some people here mistake playing the game to achieve something (lets say fancy skin) for spending hours and hours grinding for it. You say “work hard for it”. Sorry but I work most of my day and play GW2 in order to have fun, not “work hard”.
If Anet said they don’t want GW 2 to be grindfest they should make all items obtainable without days and weeks of boring grind. ESPECIALLY the festival content.
Things like skins could be obtainable in form of a reward for doing many various events so everyone, not only rich or no-life, had a chance to get it. Then I would just be playing, not grinding CS for 100g+ to buy mats like Ori or Shards.
My issue is that Anet is catering only to the hardcores and tryhards. Having some items be rare and costing 100+ gold is alright, but when all the cool stuff is like that, what’s left for casuals?
The Halloween event should have been a fun holiday thing for everyone to enjoy, not another legendary grind.
JohnnyV: “Event isnt over yet.”
In light of those ludicrous recipe requirements, it is for me.

Agree. I dont give a crap about town clothes, nor am I going to grind my kitten off just for a not even that amazing weapon skin. kitten that, event ruined. I thought it was going to be fun.
I find it amazing people get so upset about not being able to obtain a simple skin. Personally to me a game shouldn’t have everything be obtainable by everyone.
At least with GW2 what you can’t obtain is just a skin. It has no game play effect.
I hate to use the WoW word here.. but holiday events in WoW gave EVERYONE nice, permanent, fun, items..
i know ppl that have done wow halloween event for years (years – not 12 hours) and didn’t get the mount.
it was really funny for them!!!
If there is no long term achievement there is no game, if everything is handed out easily, people will just not bother playing.
It isn’t like all those legendaries and other named exotics suddenly disappeared from the game? While it is true that MMO’s do need to have long term goals to keep people playing, they also need other goals as well as some carrots that cater to various different groups of players.
Now feel free to label me as one of those entitled (such a popular word these days eh?) kittens, but in my opinion you can’t force longevity to an MMO by simply creating new gold grinds (or new ways to gamble) all the time. There needs to be a balance between content that is fun and rewarding, and long term goals that reward players for their efforts (and not just luck).
My issue is that Anet is catering only to the hardcores and tryhards. Having some items be rare and costing 100+ gold is alright, but when all the cool stuff is like that, what’s left for casuals?

This is spot on and the problem I have with this too. I’m trying hard to work towards my legendary (which is already a year away probably) and then ANet dumps these ridiculous mini-legendaries on our head that only the people who grind 24/7 will get. Come on. It isn’t fun, it’s completely overwhelming and makes me not want to even bother. I was really hoping ANet would stick to items that were at least possible to get during this week but instead it’s another 100g+ grind.
You really need to change this around ANet, and fast. I’m a huge supporter of what you guys do (and always will be mostly likely) but this isn’t the right direction you should be taking, not in the slightest. I’m also concerned about the negative word of mouth that is going to spread from this. I want this game to grow and succeed but these massive soul crushing grinds for themed skins is ridiculous and the word about it will spread.
I mean from the looks of the mats required (lol at the 100 lodestones, why even? do you have ANY IDEA how difficult these are to acquire?), you’re expecting people to be working on these weapons months from now. What in the hell would be the point of that? Halloween will be long over and it’ll almost be Christmas. Seriously, what were you thinking here?

Dracones:
“I find it amazing people get so upset about not being able to obtain a simple skin. Personally to me a game shouldn’t have everything be obtainable by everyone.”
A fine philosophy to apply to the game as a whole. A terrible philosophy to apply to an event limited to only one week.
If I want those skins I’ll have to grind out the Halloween exclusive mats while I have a chance… to the exclusion of any other Halloween content. I’m being forced to do something not neccessarily fun as opposed to the content I enjoy. That is the textbook definition of grind.
And dont think for a second I’ll support that decision buying Gems either.

Exactly this too. You’re going to need to grind out hundreds and hundreds of candy corn, that you’re not going to be able to use on any of the other cool stuff, to work on a weapon that you’re going to get months after Halloween when it no longer even has any meaning.
What in the hell was ANet thinking here? I am genuinely upset at them right now, it doesn’t seem like something they would do.

I haven’t seen any mention anywhere of those actually existing in game so I’m not sure if they do. Databases always have extra stuff in them that don’t always make it in.
I’m pretty sure the recipe posted in here is wrong.
Isnt it:
Eldrich scroll
100mystic coins
Gift corresponding to weapon
250 primary weapon parts
like every other gift based exotic (foefire)

No the recipe is not wrong, it’s just a different recipe than yours. The two recipes posted on this thread so far have been:
- Mystic Forge Recipe to get the Gift Recipe – i.e. you get this item (using Halloween mats): http://www.gw2db.com/items/70914-recipe-gift-of-souls
-Recipe to make the Gift itself – i.e. this item: http://www.gw2db.com/items/70915-gift-s-of-souls
The recipe you posted I’m guessing is the recipe for the weapon itself, which I don’t think any of us knew yet the mats for. Can anyone confirm the above post is correct? Maybe someone can throw one of each item into the forge for us to see if it’s an actual recipe?
There is a HUGE difference between wanting something NOW and having to grind 7-9 months for it. It’s like there is no inbetween for you people. What we want is a weapon that takes a reasonable amount of work during the event to obtain so we can have fun and play with it during the event and periodically throughout the year. What we don’t want is having to grind for months and months and do nothing else but grind for this weapon for half a year and by then there will already be 5-6 other cool weapons we would like to get.
Why can’t something take a week to get for a normal player? why is that so wrong?
We want something special to symbolize we participated in these events.
Black lion chest skins you say? Sorry, most are ugly anyways.
No, don’t say devil horns. Useless town item.
I want the spider bow. Some want the moon shield. Some want the crossing staff.
We don’t want to grind 3 months just to be able to get it. These craftable weapons should be obtainable by PARTICIPATING IN THE HALLOWEEN EVENTS for a REASONABLE amount of time (Aka 4-8 days or so).
We don’t want to go farm curshed shore for 3 months just to get an item from the halloween event that was ages ago!
Why can’t something take a week to get for a normal player? why is that so wrong?
Because it takes away something for the really hardcore player to strive for. If everyone can achieve everything, then there’s really nothing in this game for the 1% or 0.1% of the playerbase that wants to play 40 hours a week and strive for something.
Having said that, there needs to be tiers for each type of player. I’ll never own a twilight or sunrise on my mesmer, but I can certainly spend a few weekends getting a nice looking dungeon exotic.
This is parallel to the work kids put in to get their halloween costumes IRL.
As we all know, kids start by going out uncostumed on halloween getting candy. Then they set the candy aside and begin working full time in the coal mines for the next 6 months. After they’ve raised enough money they purchase many different kinds of costly fabrics, go to tradeschool to learn how to sew them together and then finally in August of the following year use the fabrics, put the candy into the sewing machine to power it and they have made a costume!

The logic of creating content for such a small fraction of the playerbase aside, I feel there is enough of that in the regular game proper… dungeon sets, legendaries, racial armor etc. There is no place for such content in a limited time event like this.
Even in you mild example of a dungeon piece, I dont have a few weekends to to get these materials. I have one week… whatever else I may want to do, that is all the opportunity I have for this. And just as grindy to buy them off the Trading Post once the event is over, if not moreso.
Tiers are all well and good… but I know anyone I see with the top stuff simply bought it with real money. I suppose they can take pride in that and show it off if they want to.
If you want seasonal flavor, that’s what the very cheap temporary weapons are for. The 4 hours they last is time you are logged on, not just 4 hours from when you buy it.
If you want your permanent weapon that you use all the time to look like that, then you have to work a little more for it. But remember, all you need to get during this event is the 250 candy corn plus 100 of the rare components you need for your desired gift.
Look at the professions listed on the rare components, that should indicate what weapon/gift it is for (i.e. artisan for the staff, huntsman for the shortbow, and weaponsmith for the shield).

I liked the way FFXI did it. Some fun quests for the event gear with 1-3 tiers depending on how much you run around collecting. It was mainly to show that players were there for that years Halloween event. They were only level 1 weapons/armor, but still neat to show off and could be done in a reasonable amount of time.
The amount of time sink required for the weapons is off putting. I’ve spent over $60 on keys so far with not one Halloween related drop. My fault for wanting to go the easy way out. Just another reason for me to stick to WvW only, I guess.

No, they’re not. The craftable weapons are level 80 exotic weapons with level 80 exotic stats.
Where do you get these recipes? Does anyone have a list of what all can be made?

And there are plenty of affordable level 80 exotics you can get. So yes, it is just a skin.

There is nothing reasonable about that requirement. Not in one week. Neither is grinding out the gold to get them from the Trading Post once the event is over.
They’ve locked Halloween content that was eagerly anticipated by the playerbase behind a grind that is equivalent to a legendary.

But none of them are as unique looking as this, nor are they as limited as this one. You can only get this one if you farm the mats in the next 10 days. So yes, they have a right to complain about something so special. It’s not like a Legendary that you can work on at any time of year. This you can only do this week.
So does anyone know which event item (of the 3) create what gift? Thanks
You only need to gather the corn and the rares this week. You can use them with the other components in the mystic forge at any time.

Look at what profession it’s for (you can also discover sigils with them). So for example you’d need the artisan component to make the gift needed for the staff.
