Jumping is old
The Lunatic Court game is different.
Take your eyes off the jump puzzle and enjoy the rest.
I’m also talking about Mad King dungeon
mk doesnt really have that much jumping though
It takes more death to jump to the chest then to kill the boss and that is wrong
o.O dk never had that much problem with reaching the chest, maybe you re doing the jumps in a wrong way :o
in gw1, people complained that there was no jumping and stopped playing.
gw2, they give people jumping. they complain still.

I’m kind of upset about that one too. I don’t mind the tower jump puzzle, which I could just ignore. But I killed the MK twice and was never able to make it to the chest. I think it stinks to screw people over like that.

The jumping is great fun. MK is not hard,… yes the Clock Tower is however its a challenge. Great work I say!

First of all, I’m such a bad jumper, I add that to my LFG messages when wanting to get into this dungeon, so I’m not being snarky at all.
But, at worst you should be able to fling yourself to the island the chest is on and get revived by someone at the bottom. I know I’d stand there and wait for you….
I never played GW1 so I cant say about lack of jumping there but generally the lack of jumping in other RPG’s like Dragon Age doesn’t bother me. However making jumping the focus of the whole event with things like MT and Clock Tower, which basically are the best loot sources for the event, is very, very low and shows very little regard given to the variety of mechanics in encounters.
They should make a jumping puzzle with reversed mechanics.
Your character is upside down and instead of jumping you have to try to stick to the ground otherwise be pulled into that swirling giant black hole the entire scene is spinning around. Instead of getting to a chest the chest will come to you and you have to catch it. If you’re missing the catch the chest will be sucked into aforementioned black hole. Also the longer you take for it the closer you get to the aforementioned black hole. Meaning your actions will become slower and slower…and slower. However you may cast Mad King’s Clock Tower in order to get out of it but that will also end your try.
When I’m playing WvW I’m really playing LSD.
I just fall from the top, land on the chest and get the team to res me lol

This might sound a little harsh, but if you are really not able to reach the third floor I really hope that they will never let you drive a car. You have to jump once to reach the second floor and twice to reach the third and both times their is no time pressure involved. You also don’t even have to move, just stand their and take a leap forward and you will reach the flying rock or the floor. All you have to do is to hit space and w shortly afterwards.

You’re right. That does sound harsh, and pretty silly too because I’ve been driving very well for 31 years now. But I have vertigo and motion sickness really bad, so I can’t use an escalator, for example. I’ve never made it to the third platform, and I have no idea where I land because I have to close my eyes when I start falling to keep my stomach from turning.

We’re complaining about the jumping in the MAD KING dungeon now?
Come on.
You should maybe screw up once, your first time in there not knowing where to jump from. That’s it. There’s no hard jumps and there aren’t even many of them. You walk a few chains and hop down from a few spots? I mean there’s nothing.
I just fall from the top, land on the chest and get the team to res me lol
This is the perfect example of someone who adapts to get things done. I’ve seen others do this and I don’t blame them.
@aliquis
I had my problems with arcophobia too (I came to grips with it due to shock treatment a few years ago) but it never was an issue in video games. I’m really sorry to hear that it’s different in your case. But about your motion sickness, where I’m from you can lose your driver license if you have that kind of sickness (if it’s bad enough), so my statement wasn’t that silly after all.
I get that there are people out there that have certain sicknesses or other issues (e.g. people with arachnophobia sometimes can’t fight spiders in video games), but they are a minority and Arena Net cannot design events and encounters based on their issues.

Guild Wars 1 you couldn’t jump.
Guild Wars 2 dedicated puzzles that revolve around jumping.
I think they are just excited they figured out how to do it :P
Aside from that, what’s wrong with having jumping puzzles, it’s something to do outside the norm, and there is more to the halloween event than 1 jumping event.

They should put more effort into making boss fights more fun instead of mandatorizing jumping.

That tower is simple amazing.
On a side note , if people cant even do a simple jump challenge , how they hope to beat harder stuff?
Just what every MMO should turn into to beef up their “content”…a platform game.
We who suck at jumping don’t bother with the jumping puzzles that much. And whereas there isn’t a timer imposed by the game it sure feels a bit stressful to still be trying to reach the chest while everyone else is chomping at the bit to have another go.
It’d been so simple to just have the chest spawn at the top, alternatively not have the Mad King jump up to the middle from the bottom under any circumstance.

the jumping in the MK dungeon is pretty basic…in fact its semi falling instead of jumping…

Jumping and fun encounters are not mutually exclusive. I agree that the Mad King gets a little boring after you’ve done the “The Mad King says …” part, but that’s not cause you have to jump three times during the whole encounter. On the contrary, his realm is the part I like most about him.

I honestly don’t see how getting to the chest in MK dungeon is hard… I made it down there on my first run no problems at all, only times I died was due to his fear running me off the cliff. But I guess the whole 4 hours it took me to complete Clock tower heightened my jumping abilities, because the platforms seem really obvious where to jump for me tbh :-l
oh my goodness chest is easy to reach! I swear though this game is not for you, i am thinking of mario game that is more suited for players that is having hard time with all the jumping aspects of the game.
I can’t even take this post seriously. The jumping in the Mad King dungeon isn’t that difficult and is achievable if you watch where you’re going.

Group with a Mesmer and have them drop a portal for you while they do the jumps. Easy fix.

Depends on the nature of the “harder stuff”. Twitch mechanics are not the only way to make things hard.

OP, u dont understand. Jumping is a huge part of the gw2 content, is like a milestone! Do u want a content? Jumping puzzles! Do u want more conten? More jumping puzzles!
Completing a jumping puzzle shows ur real skills, and u can officially call urself "kitten"on the forums. An important note – Jumping puzzles are NOT for everyone to complete (it is a quote from an unknown fanboy on the forums). Only selected ones can complete a jumping puzzle! Also u should know that they are GREAT FUN, and u MUST enjoy them.
Seriously? The Mad King dungeon is not even that hard for jumping…
If you aren’t making it down to the chest without dying in the dungeon, ask one of your party members to wait and rez you. There is a crack in the middle of the middle level that you can fall down to land on the bottom level. You’ll die, but a kind soul can rez you there and you can loot the chest.

Are you being serious? It’s not hard to jump down to the chest at all. It’s like 3 easy jumps.

I wouldn’t say that GW2 is not for you if you don’t like jumping puzzles, but there are certain parts of the game you should avoid.

I enjoy jumping puzzles to an extent. They can be fun and they provide some much needed relief from all the failed parts of the game (WvW, Orr). I am worried about the way this game is slowly turning into some Super Mario with a sword game, though. That’s really not what it was advertised as, and if it had been advertised as such, I would not have bought it. I’d rather see some more genre specific end game content than a bunch more jumping puzzles.

Hey, could you elaborate little more on this " slowly turning into some Super Mario with a sword game" ?

The jumps in the dungeon weren’t difficult at all.
I really hope this becomes a trend. The further this game gets from the usual MMO, the better.
Not sure if this was posted but…
To get to the mid level, walk off the chain to the first drop. walk off that one to a smaller island. From there you have to do one jump to a large island.
You do not even have to go to the very bottom until the chest, and at that point you just need one person that can rez you. The Mad King WILL jump back to the mid level if left alone at the bottom.
Also, in case you don’t want to face plant you way down, use speed boosts to make jumps, and take your time lining them up.

I just meant that jumping puzzles are increasing in both their number and import exponentally when compared to more traditional content of this genre. Aside from the obvious Tower jumping puzzle we also got four(or was it three?) other jumping puzzles. That dwarfs the number of dungeons (0), mini dungeons (1), PvP maps (1), etc….
For this event (which was incredible!) the tower jumping puzzle also offers the only guaranteed chance of an exotic drop in the event. Why no guaranteed exotic for the more traditional content (or why have a guaranteed exotic at all for that matter)?
I don’t want to hate on jumping puzzles, because I like them also, but I didn’t buy a mainstream MMORPG to do jumping puzzles. If that’s what I want, I’ll dust off my Nintendo.

First off there’s no issue with the chest in the dungeon. Saying its hard to get to is like saying its hard to sit on a chair because the cat is there.
As for the topic of jumping puzzles I really wish people would understand why they are in the game. It is content that is quick to make, imaginative and provides the vast majority with a challenge, some fun or both. Its free content and still people complain. If you dont like jumping puzzles dont do them! You get a silly achievement and (for all except Clocktower) a bunch of green loot so its not like those that can do them are somehow gaining a headstart. I get frustrated, I swear and curse at the screen and some are downright horrible to do…but overall im having a lot of fun. Took me 4 hours to do the Clocktower but I did it and the sense of achievement was awesome because I made up my mind that I was going to do it and wouldnt stop until I got through it. Its the same but on a smaller scale with the smaller puzzles.
In summary: why criticise free content? Personally I think the powers that be deserve a rather large pint of beer for their work up to and including the Halloween event. I have never seen this amount of detail and love put into free content in any game. Sure things havent been 100% perfect (IMO Clocktower should have an easy mode for example) but if this is the amount of effort put into every event…this game has very easily paid for itself and i’ll be happy to buy future expansions. Its pretty much at the “Shut up and take my money!” stage already….

1. They get 40k karma head start (cost of a exotic). 2. The content is not free. I payed 50 euro for my game.
It is not jumping, it is falling with style.
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant
The problem with jumping is that, while many people love it, many others don’t. Jumping has the effect of excluding people from content. The more difficult you make it, the more people you exclude. The designer of the tower jump puzzle stated publicly that he only expected about 5% of people to make it. That is rather extreme, but that was jumping for its own sake and easily enough avoided. When you start making jumping a requirement as a means of accessing other content, then you run the risk of alienating people.

1. Putting aside the fact that the item itself isn’t that great (power, condam, MF… all on a skin that’s already in the game for a hell of a lot less effort, not to mention it’s soulbound and can’t be salvaged), exotics are also easily found on the TP for as little as 1-2g a piece. You can’t just take the highest number you can come up with and apply it to your argument like it’s a binary decision (either you pay 40k karma, or you don’t get anything!). That’s disingenuous and misleading at best, and outright manipulative at worst.
2. The content is free. You paid 50 euro for the game, as it came in the box. Any additions made after the fact are free. You do not pay a monthly fee for this game, and any gems you buy are currency to purchase in-game items from the cash shop.
I literally cannot even fathom that such a thread even exists.
The Mad King’s tower is a completely optional part of the Halloween event; it’s not required for any achievements, and you don’t get anything “exclusive” from it. It’s meant to be challenging (oh no).
As for the Mad King Chest after killing him, there are no “jumping skills” required to get to it at all. It’s not difficult to find the path after a couple minutes, there are no close jumps at all. You are finding a way down; if you can’t be even bothered to spend some extra effort, you don’t deserve the chest.
