I converted 800 gems to gold and got the skin I wanted….instead of gambling on a few keys for the same item.

This is probably a good learning experience for people who have never gambled before. At least for most, not a whole lot of real money was involved.

I figured this would be just more gambling and getting kitten I don’t want or care about. I don’t understand why you guys couldn’t make a set of skins purchasable and for those that want to feel special a 2nd set that works with the super low drop rate.

Lol at OP troll. Dude got one of the rare pauldron skins and mats he can sell or craft with. More valuable than practically anything you could get out of a black lion chest.

On top of that, all mad king items, with exception to the rare crafting mats were Halloween themed. This is exactly what people were originally expecting from the BLCs.

There is nothing to legitimately complain about anymore. People were upset they bought keys for Halloween stuff and the only event stuff in the chests was super rare. So they added a new chest to give us Halloween stuff. The problem was solved, but I can’t say everyone that was initially spurned by buying keys will ever jump to buy more for another event.

This. You got halloween items, 100% guaranteed. You didn’t get the best halloween items, but you got halloween items.

Karma and killstreak boosters don’t work for this recipe. Though, I won’t give it my karma boosters anyway – 20 mad chests opened, not a single skin inside.

I think what they should have done is just simply add in the skins to the TP for the people who don’t want to gamble, many other MMos have done that and it worked out better with less whining, not to mention clearly stating the odds on the gambling.

I think people would still gamble, but also players would probably rather just use the gem shop than take a chance on what could be a total waste of time/money.

The only reason I was excited for the Halloween event were the skins, especially the Greatsaw Greatsword Skin. But after the crap they pulled, I’m not supporting their company anymore.

Truthfully, I’m not mad that I gambled and lost. I’m mad that the odds were set so high. After 30-odd Black Lion chests with keys I bought and dozens of mad king chests, I got nothing at all. I thought the point of the halloween events was to have a good time, and I wanted to kick a little fun AN’s way for doing it.

My mistake was hoping I’d get anything fun out of it. There’s nothing fun about opening so many crates and boxes and getting nothing of value. Then crafting all those fangs and kitteny things I made to get a single “major sigil of night”. The mechanic itself was absolutely foolish.

I’ll put the analogy to something younger people can understand. Can you imagine Christmas being fun if the point was to open 40 presents, with only one in a million chances of getting anything but string? Oh, but at least you can knit your own sweater from the fuclkoads of refuse you got. Two hours of disappointment later, your family and friends say that if you give them all your string, you can open a few more things and get colored string. Now you can knit your own themed sweater, provided that you care enough, can knit, and don’t mind it coming out more like a glove that’s likely the wrong size.

The crux of the problem is that weapon skins in particular are a touchy issue because of the legendaries. The legendaries are the endgame drive, so reducing the demand for them by flooding the market with pseudolegendaries will garrotte the economy before it has a chance to stabilize. The most valuable items on the trading post are all cosmetic, so some limitation has to be made on directly purchaseable cosmetic items to at least appease the people going for those that require a high playtime investment.

For the rest, if you can’t stand walking away empty handed, never buy anything you aren’t guaranteed. It’s a good rule in real life: either have a backup plan or don’t take risks.

The chests are just another grab. I opened almost the same amount I did for the others and even got stuff not related to halloween. Heck, my friend got glacier fragments! I guess at least I got some candy related stuff but not one bloody skin. The rate is still utter garbage.

They should had never been in the BLC to begin with but instead been a individual item you could buy from the shop, a item from a karma merchant or even a random reward from a jumping puzzle in lions arch. Hell they could had even made it a costume brawler champion reward. There were so many other GOOD possibilities than the money hungry method they chose. It’s a bit clear that this event was more of a money maker for them than a event for the community.

I for one spent about 4k gems on keys and got nothing and then flipped all my items in the mystic forge for the about 42 new chests and still got nothing again. Thanks for a memorable Halloween and I for one will be staying clear of the rest of the events and not be buying anything from you unless I know its 100% guaranteed.

I opened 5 chests from items that I looted prior to the event (never bought any keys) and received Recipe: Gift of Spider in one of the five. It’s all CHANCE! Just because you aren’t lucky enough to receive an item that you value doesn’t mean the idea sucks, it means that they are doing a good enough job at actually making it a chance item.

One suggestion: Never go to a casino if you are getting this angry over a game.

New PvP tourney system. 30 new dynamic events. 3 New jumping puzzles. 1 new mini dungeon. So you werent interested in the pvp or pve aspect of this game, only the skins? (and this is ignoring the craftable skins, the scavenger hunt, and the costume brawl)

“People still haven’t learned their lesson from the first round of RNG chests, it seems. Do NOT gamble for the skins. Wait for them to come out on the TP and buy them instead.

What ANet has done is essentially increase the potential pool of BLC skins in the community by an exponential amount (6 Mysterious Tonics + 2 Boosters is basically the contents from 2 BLC’s). This WILL increase the number of skins available on the market, and it WILL lower the prices going forward, especially since the player base can continue to generate Mad King Chests from the Mystic Forge long after Halloween is over for as long as there are Candy Corns in circulation in the economy. And I’m willing to bet that there’s tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of CC’s out there right now, more than enough to last us all the way till next year’s Halloween. (It happened in GW1, it’s sure going to happen in GW2!)

By all means, if you have extra MT’s and Boosters lying around, make a few MKC’s and take a punt, but do NOT sink your savings into this. Gamble only what you can afford to lose.”

30 mad king chests, nothing special from them. I’m glad they made the effort to smooth over some of the sour feelings over this BLC business, but I’m done with it personally. At least some people are getting skins.

The event itself is certainly fun in places. If nothing else, walking around and seeing the world decked out for Christmas is refreshing. Going to my kid’s pageant is refreshing. Getting to spend time with my family is fun, and hilarious.

I’m just saying: There would be loads of hurt feelings if part of Christmas was gambling over presents. I’m saying that when I bought fifteen keys, I was trying to have a good time. Instead I got an average amount of disappointment, compounded by a system designed to give me further disappointment.

That’s what didn’t have to be this way.

Not doing this again and I even got a dagger skin. Now I have no bankspace at all because it is filled with crafting materials I can’t use and are not considered collectables.

Ignoring the gambling aspect, this whole chest thing will continue to give Anet a black eye as long as they are in game. Before the event, they were pretty much junk, and after this correction, they are still pretty much junk. However, they won’t eliminate these as they will take advantage of the weak to make money (eh-hem, not me).

You can call the people complaining whiners, cryers, or whatever, but they are a voice, and if loud enough, will surely be heard throughout the gaming community.

Just gonna hurt Anet’s rep on an otherwise very enjoyable game.

If you want to sell stuff in the cash shop, then sell stuff in the cash shop. I’m not going to buy 200 keys and play the lottery for a random armor model. I’m also not going to buy a pile of gems to trade for gold to pay their extremely overpriced listings due to the rarity you gave them. 35g for an armor model? No thank you. Max lvl exotics are only <5 each and any other armor model is usually less than 1g.(Look up Godskull, Bandit, or Orrian weapons) You put the non combat items in the cash shop for us but NOT the ones players like myself would have actually wanted. Instead you want us to buy keys as if they were lottery tickets and hope for the best. No thank you. Next time when you do an event, don’t gimmick your users. It may have worked this time but I doubt it’ll work twice. Next time everyone is just going to be like, “Well I wasted 50$ on keys last time and got nothing out of it, so I’m not doing that again.”

Yesterday I bought (and received from the chests I opened) enough keys to open about 60 chests. I got a couple of the Halloween skins, but they were for shoulders I couldn’t use and a weapon I couldn’t use (dagger). I was disappointed that the cool skin I did want was tucked away behind a terrible drop rate that wasn’t disclosed and had pretty much decided that the way it looks like special events are going to be handled meant the game wasn’t for me.

Today, I converted all the stuff I got yesterday and even bought some more keys, and opened 20 or so more chests plus around 80 of the new Mad King chests. I did not get a single skin. I’m a little disappointed in myself that I would spend all my gold and even some real money hoping I would get the skin I wanted, then not get it. I probably could have just exchanged all those gems for gold and bought the skin. I now realize this is not the kind of game I want to be playing.

Imagine going through this every time there’s a special event. Having to spend so much gold and/or money to only hope you get lucky enough to get the item you want while someone can open a handful of chests and get multiple items. I should have decided not to participate in this earlier, but combining a real money cost with a gamble is a very disappointing decision by ArenaNet.

I was really hoping the new chests would have a better chance at the skins, but it seems just as bad as the regular chests. Unless changes are made in how they handle these types of special items, I’m done with GW2. What baffles me is the people who defend this kind of barrier to getting these items. Do you really care that a special event skin remains rare and hard to obtain? Did you get lucky and sell a skin for upwards of 80 gold? I just don’t understand how people find this kind of thing acceptable.

At the very least, Anet has drawn the focus back onto Halloween goodies with the BLC gamble. I doubt they’ll throw out anymore bones for the raging dogs out there hungry for a faux-legendary skin (the orignial source of acquisition being dependant on RNG). This method would soothe the tempers of about half the poor fools who got understanably useless storage junk. But obviously Anet won’t change their business RNG business model. Not even when a token system (i.e for purchasing keys so that X tokens can be exchanged for what ever skin the player want even if chest didn’t drop one) would go along way to sooth ruffle feathers.

The best advice I can offer the ones still feeling stung is that you now have a lions share of limited release materials. Stock them up and play the TP when prices rise. The recipes for the crafted items won’t go away and eventually people will be begging for some to craft their foods, fancy armor, etc. That’s profit right there.

(and to the trolling sodds insulting these pitiful gambles: They paid to support Anet though gem purchases. You who didn’t purchase gems (and probably didn’t get stung by the RNG debachal) isn’t financially supporting Anet. Guess who Anet will value more? Get that into your thic.kitten.tle heads)

All i am saying is i spent real money just like those whining, I just spent it before the event and I got a bunch of garbage too. If I am a customer that spend money on a regular basis 20-50 a month and not just 20-50 when ever there is an event. Than in Anets best interest they would cater to those regular customers over those that purchase something only when there is an event. Its call smart business.

Thing is, with the new change, you are guaranteed halloween themed items, and mats needed to craft the more rare skins.

What you aren’t guaranteed is getting the best halloween items, but that’s the way it works in all mmo’s.

You dont put money into the lottery assuming your going to get your money back for it. You gamble it and turned out your chances are just as bad as real life. I dont understand why a weapon skin is worth complaining and i’m beating mosst of you who spent money on the chest for the skins could have sold the gems and bought the weapon for the current akign prices is what makes me cry. :c coming from a “free to play but pay to win” game i knew better as long at Anet doesnt put in any elite armor in the game im willing to stay a true fan.

At the beginning of the event I was ready to dive in and buy a few BL keys but now I’m very glad that I decided to wait. Saved myself some money.

What armor model is on the TP for 35g? Also, where did you come up with the figure that everyone bought 200 keys. I understand you’re mad about not getting a skin, but really, just calm down and have some fun brawling players and carving pumpkins.

This has now turned from a complete and utter joke into a total insult to their customer base.

What you aren’t guaranteed is getting the best halloween items, but that’s the way it works in all mmo’s.

All MMOs don’t tie your chance for an item directly to how deep your wallet is.

I have supported Anet for quite along time, purchasing digital deluxe pre-order, beta testing in each BWE and following the progress since probably GW2 was announced and right now, I feel a little sad at what is happening with the game in general.

Anyway, as my own personal protest I am boycotting the rest of the Halloween event. And in future events if I see any hint of a gambling system in place, I’ll not bother with those events either.

Yesterday I bought (and received from the chests I opened) enough keys to open about 60 chests. I got a couple of the Halloween skins, but they were for shoulders I couldn’t use and a weapon I couldn’t use (dagger). I was disappointed that the cool skin I did want was tucked away behind a terrible drop rate that wasn’t disclosed and had pretty much decided that the way it looks like special events are going to be handled meant the game wasn’t for me.

Today, I converted all the stuff I got yesterday and even bought some more keys, and opened 20 or so more chests plus around 80 of the new Mad King chests. I did not get a single skin. I’m a little disappointed in myself that I would spend all my gold and even some real money hoping I would get the skin I wanted, then not get it. I probably could have just exchanged all those gems for gold and bought the skin. I now realize this is not the kind of game I want to be playing.

Imagine going through this every time there’s a special event. Having to spend so much gold and/or money to only hope you get lucky enough to get the item you want while someone can open a handful of chests and get multiple items. I should have decided not to participate in this earlier, but combining a real money cost with a gamble is a very disappointing decision by ArenaNet.

I was really hoping the new chests would have a better chance at the skins, but it seems just as bad as the regular chests. Unless changes are made in how they handle these types of special items, I’m done with GW2. What baffles me is the people who defend this kind of barrier to getting these items. Do you really care that a special event skin remains rare and hard to obtain? Did you get lucky and sell a skin for upwards of 80 gold? I just don’t understand how people find this kind of thing acceptable.

I’ll echo this. There’s nothing to be lost by making these skins more common than they are. The point is to open your presents and get something nice. To have an enjoyable time with a holiday. Even if it’s something that you’ll trade out later for something more suitable, at least it has value to you. You got it, whether through hoarding those items or spending a little extra, or trading your saved up gold for gems.

The way it’s handled instead is like celebrating your holiday by working overtime at your job. Opening the chests should have been like coming home and enjoying a beer with family and friends. It’s not a huge deal, and it’s something you can do any day, but it feels special.

So Anet is all this and all that just because each and every one of you doesn’t get exactly what you want? They took an extra step to give you another chance, it’s called gambling for a reason.

The above sums up my opinion. I think some of you guys are judging a bit harshly….this is only act 1. We have no idea what rewards/content the other 3 acts have to offer.

There shouldn’t be this type of gambling in a holiday event at all and it doesn’t matter what the other acts will offer because they can’t exactly turn around and make these skins easily obtainable now cause that would just be shooting us in the face. They should had never been in the BLC to begin with but instead been a individual item you could buy from the shop, a item from a karma merchant or even a random reward from a jumping puzzle in lions arch. Hell they could had even made it a costume brawler champion reward. There were so many other GOOD possibilities than the money hungry method they chose. It’s a bit clear that this event was more of a money maker for them than a event for the community.

I for one spent about 4k gems on keys and got nothing and then flipped all my items in the mystic forge for the about 42 new chests and still got nothing again. Thanks for a memorable Halloween and I for one will be staying clear of the rest of the events and not be buying anything from you unless I know its 100% guaranteed.

Good. If it’s not fun, don’t do it. That will be better for everyone in the end.

That’s not the point I’m making. I actually found all the events to be fun and well done. I just have a gripe with the way they went about distributing these weapon skins. They should had been easily obtainable or sold individually like the witch and mad king costume.

Why does everyone act like you have to get one of these skins? I managed to get 3 myself in about 20 chests but that was my choice. I could have easily said “Pass” and moved on.

Also, how does no one seem to know to put the dollar sign before the number? It’s $50 not 50$. Should be basic knowledge.

I am actually holding out one last hope that by completing all the acts of this event, you’ll be able to get a skin somehow. It’s probably unlikely, but I guess you never know.

For those arguing that it’s a lottery….

It is only a lottery because ArenaNet set it up that way. They could have easily set this up to either earn in game or just buy the skins outright.

As for myself, I am not mad, just disappointed. I enjoy the game and will continue to play. Don’t enjoy being taken for a ride in a cash shop though, so I will just avoid using any real cash in it for the remainder of my time here.

ArenaNet got what they wanted. Short term cash infusion, long term revenue problems coming from a serious amount of PO’d customers.
