Ridiculous male faces
Maybe not like 12-year olds but most of them are in there late teens and 20s, yeah. But apart from Clint Eastwoods brother, you have Mr Jawline as a masculine face, even though he too looks a little too young. And Mr Average-chubby-guy-face is not that boyish either. But the rest I agree with. Hard to make a fiercesome warrior when they have perfect skin and full lips XD
At least the men don’t have makeup forced on about 90% of available faces, and if you think the guys look too young, look at the gals. :p
It’s a shame that the same company that gave us some fantastic visual options for charr and sylvari went full tilt for surgically enhanced and photoshopped, samey-same, barely adult blandness on the humans. I’m sorry, was I meant to type “sexiness” or “prettiness” instead? Ugh.
Thankfully, I prefer the lore of the other species anyway.
I think there were three faces I ended up… not liking, but tolerating, for this reason. I’m sure the faces as are have their fans, but it’d be nice to have a little more variety.
Yeah there’s only 2 human male faces I could go with. One was the Clint Eastwood face for my warrior who is supposed to look like a seasoned veteran of war. (And a remake of my GW1 warrior that looked older).
The second face for my human male guardian went well with a beard and slicked back hair. I think he looks like he might be in his 30’s maybe?
The rest of the faces/hairstyles bug the heck out of me. Too perfect, too teenage, too modern and breaking of game immersion in my opinion.
What I ended up with my 2 human males I am pretty happy with though.

I think I did just fine with my char… he looks about the right age imho:
I like the young 20s faces, actually, the ones that are similar to the black-eyed face. There are like 3 or 4 that I would consider ridiculously young/“pretty” (especially the default face of eles and the default face on necros) and never use.
Even so, I agree with Stramatus in that:
TL;DR—>Almost all are too “Perfect” looking, too westeren-media-standard-model-of-beauty looking.
I would like to have the option, even if I do like the younger looking ones, to have a “seasoned veteran of war” too, an older more masculine guy. But, most importantly, a more realistic face, not “ugly” as such i guess, but nearer to that end on the line than the ridiculously photogenic models.
And, well, this is even worse in the female humans. They really all look so similar, so photoshopped, so barbie. At least it would be nice to have the option of removing all that make up.
And finally, the worst thing is seeing the humans as npcs. If player characters and story-relevant characters were like this, well, alright, but EVERY single random peasant girl or guy of the entire city is absolutely gorgeous and in his/her early 20s?? There is a 90% of 20 year olds in kryta and a couple of elderly 60+ men and women.

I agree, and that goes for the body types aswell (even though I guess it is hard to program)

Yes, they are really good looking…all of them, but I think the main problem for the female humans is their Barbie-proportions. They don’t look natural at all

Yes, agree completely. They look too good. Kinda ruins the reality feeling of the game.
Side note: I think the (male) faces looks south european, like spanish, italian or greek etc.
At least that’s a good thing since most faces in videogames look like north europeans.
Giant babies? Why not actual baby?
It’s hilarious hearing an adult voice coming from a character that looks like a pre-teen.
In all honesty though, there are some decent faces that you could work with getting them as battle hardened soldiers. My only gripe is that they didn’t offer any facial options like scars or wrinkles that you could apply on your character. I know ST:O has such options.
Also taking youth too far in character creation:
I dont like how in this game all the great, old and experienced human faces were given to the npc’s.

Indeed. Norn women have the biggest “WTF” potential in that regard — their faces aren’t quite as childish as the human ones, but that (awesome IMO) deep voice just clashes something fierce with a bland, painted babyteen face.

As does The Old Republic. Yes, it’s a real shame that GW2 doesn’t allow that sort of customization. A wider variety of faces with options for scars and no forced makeup would have helped a lot.

I’m dying.
3 and 8 are so feminine.
Okay, I can see some points on the face but who scrolls close enough to look at everyone’s face anyway?
I don’t think this thread is fair at all. There are only 2 faces that could go under teen category. There are at least 3 faces that could fit above 30. Op is overreacting heavily. There is a reason for all those facial sliders, if you can’t bother to use them then that’s totally your fault. I’m pretty good with human face design and I have no problem turning pretty much every face to look the way I want and different than the default one. Pretty much everyone here is complaining about something that can be easily changed with a slider.
“Ridiculous male faces”
No joke! While scrolling through the faces when I created my first char, a Warrior, last October I did a double check to see if I was in the MALE char creation because most of the faces look like a chick.
I also looked at the female faces and all but one of them look like elementary school kids. WTF?
I’m quite sure the artist behind this is a woman. Why? Cos there is no way a male artist could have designed male faces like these. Apparently she likes feminine looking men. There are actually only 2 decent looking faces. The rest are total garbage. At least we have the clint eastwood face. This reflects the gw2 world tbh, where everyone is happy and smiling like an idiot all the time.

Stop overreacting, they’re not that bad. Expecting realistic fugly gnomes in a fantasy MMO is idiotic.

Except for the chick in the back, giving that sarcastic smile like “I hate all of you”.
Male sylvari faces are far more representative of human males than human male faces are.
And that the same goes for the female counterparts aswell, doesn’t reduce the ridicule evoked by finding realistic faces in vegetables first.
Agreed Most of the male faces are the most Creamy, Moist, Anime – Sissified, Unmanly pukathon this side of Tyria.
Yuck.
9/3/13 rip
I really must say that i hate all but 2 faces the other male and female faces are just down right ugly and they have to much gaunt under the neck and at least its not like Skyrim were everything is old but i thought better of Ncsoft and Areanet could make a vast game proclaim there character creation but you know what with only 4000 different models you can make times the face manipulator and dye system there not alot you can do i wish they would add more face models and with actual human ears and more eye models sigh but for a a game as vast as this you really cant complain. So gj Guys but plz add more models for face not re textured new face meshes..
And people always think I’m weird for playing only female characters.
Every time I see the human male faces in this game it further reinforces my point.
I’m happy with my “Clint Eastwood” face
Well not so bad
I tried Niechu an evil face
My role partial Japanese comic style
enjoy it I will devour your life
90% of the male human faces are recycled from GW1 as far as I can tell.
That game had a more “asian” flavor than this one (graphically, not economically :p)
As a female player, when I went to go make a human male warrior, I was so put off by the faces. If they’re supposed to be visually appealing to women, they really missed the mark. If I wanted to make a feminine character, I would’ve made a female character. I just wanted a mid-to-late 20s guy who didn’t look totally kawaii desu~ but it was either uguu moe-chans or Clint Eastwood, neither of which I wanted.
And don’t even get me started on the nightmare that was my attempt at making a human with Mediterranean (Greek/Italian/Turkish) features. Holy god. The human character creator is basically White Girls: The Game.

But aren’t darker people just recolored Whites? No? No. No, but Human character creation says suntan & blackface = dark features.
Buuut, here’s what additional coin will get you now:

Anet plz stop adding female faces to the male face section!! We already had plenty of them. Or add massive beards we can use to hide the feminine features and pump more testosterone. Also: Add asura beards. tyvm.

This. New faces are terrible tbh (only one is decent).
Who knows, maybe they will add an aromatase inhibitor available on the TP, estrogen levels are way too high among male humans in tyria.
(only one is decent)
You too would concur that a single instance of praise is due, right?
Although his forehead is still a wee bit short like that of a baby, the rest of his features are qualitatively approaching the work on Sylvari faces – from meager reductions on the jutting Jay Leno chin to a richly masculine elimination of cheek puff;
I…Gotta agree that the Human faces are silly, I only use one type of hair, face and facial hair style (Well I used a different facial hair style for my second human but otherwise he looks like a direct clone with gray hairs in his black hair), they all look like muscular women to some degree…Luckily I am now more in to Norns now seeing as they are about as human but a lot more manly
Also, how dare you say the Norn faces are bad!….Okay fine, I didn’t like most of the faces since they all looked either chubby or freckled or anything, but at least I found one that fits my long red hair and beard
I have to agree that the faces are too young.. they really should take an example of GW1 and make faces according to their proffesions. For an example the Necromancer and the Monk. The Necromancer has a face where you can see that he has evil plans while a Monk is having a peaceful and calm look. (look at the attachment)
GW2 Provides more standard looks then unique ones and I think they should change it.
Of cours you can take a beard and you charracter looks older instantly but still the faces are few and are very standard. On the otther hand that the Norn faces are far more better you have the really angry and fierce Norn and the young looking Norn.
I would also immediatly wanna take a Human if I could remake The Masters of Whispers or other heroes of Guild Wars 1 they look epic!
I think there should be options. From feminine and young, to average in appearance and age, and all varieties of ugly and/or old. Or ugly and young. Options are good.
The only problem is that there’s a whole lot of options for feminine and average, and remarkably little for anything else. It has the hilarious affect of causing all human males to look the same to me, too.
I tried to recreate me GW1 Elementalist in GW2. I spent at least an hour obsessing over the sliders, and he still came out looking like he’s wearing lipstick and lost 10-20 years of age, when he actually gained 250. I choose to blame magic.
Even though there was no customisation of them, the Guild Wars “1” faces were at least pleasing … except for the Warrior’s faces, which is the range of templates in which the human faces in Guild Wars 2 seem to fall: an uncanny mix of infantile and brutish features.
But wouldn’t faces like those in the artworks of Guild Wars 2 also be better than what we get our hands on:
(edited by Bazompora.2635)
Another reason why they look slightly more feminine is because of the small forehead. Big forehead is a masculine thing!
I think I managed to make my human pretty “unique”, but I could feel character creation fighting me the entire time.
Wanted to make the oldest, most unattractive human possible (to combat all the pretty boys). I think I can still push the system harder, but this is as good as I did.
Just wish there were more “aged” options. Wrinkly, gnarly, bumpy skin. Have you seen the “old women” in this game? They are in desperate need of some gnarl. Moles…Gimme moles!!
Edit: I think I managed to make a woman reasonably old…ish. At least she doesn’t look young and springy like a good deal of the other characters in-game. Would still like more options, though…

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder….here’s my human char.
Have you ever tried to make a male human character? It seems like almost everyone chooses to make females…

LOL!! karl pilkington
Human character creation options in general are bad—both male and female.
My human male character was meant to look like a child cartoon character from The Grim Adventures. I didn’t mind the young faces because it’s what I was going for. But yeah—older, more war-torn features are definitely needed—for both sexes!
They’re not bad, just limited.
Don’t worry, I’m sure AN will update a lot of faces, hairs & beards for humans in this year!
Yes, the faces are mostly plastic and everyone in Tyria is such young, can’t make old guys and its a hard hit on RolePlayers/Veteran RPG players.
But then, the customization options shall be improved.
“A man chooses; a slave obeys.” | “Want HardMode? Play Ranger!”
My human guy is not fresh from the womb and he’s not transgendered. More than half of these faces aren’t even remotely masculine.
Old post? Irrelevant. It’s still on the front page.
Last month it seems that the Norn gain the ability to have a HUGE waxed moustache as part of their character creation. Which is awesome.
However, the Male Humans are still left with very few option for facial hair. Its either “chin fluff” of “full Moses”. Anybody else yearning for more bigger and better human facial hair beard/moustache combos?

I get the impression that Anet gave little thought and/or effort to Human face and hairstyles, like it was a hurried up afterthought. After seeing the wide variety of faces and hairstyles that the other races have that’s the only conclusion that I can come to.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder….here’s my human char.
THATS A GUY!?!?!?!?!?!?!
I tried really hard to make a decent looking human, for the sake of wanting to play and experience human storylines and atmosphere for the sake of GW1 nostalgia, and best I could do is my thief and necromancer, necromancer I think is relatively well holding up, with thief less so.
Necro is made without using gem story cosmetics, thief with.
Agreed, apart from the Clint Eastwood face they all look like feminine renaissance noble teens. I remember the day (guildwars 1) i could make a human with a fierce barbarian face (with the barbarian headband/crown on his head). The shift from mediëval to renaissance is showing. And what i also miss is chesthair (only one).
More manly faces (and chest with hair) would be appreciated in the future :-)
And Natural body types with chesthair. Its all gym bodies right now.
I made my male human character first and at the time didn’t really focus on the options enough to notice much ridiculous about them, other than some of them being pretty young. I do reckon I managed to make a male that didn’t look as bad as everyone in this blog is implying all the male faces looked. However, with my female human character it was far too easy to be disappointed… Although to be disappointed I suppose that would mean I would have expected more decent options, which I really kind of wasn’t. There are perhaps one or two figures for the females that don’t make them either look anorexic or very unrealistically proportioned, and of course those are the ones I went for. Hell, I’m relieved there was even one that wasn’t totally ridiculous.
