It is at least one of those things that make you a little proud to have beaten it, but the whole premise of 1 shot mechanics felt like it went a little too far, especially since it makes anyone with a bunker build nearly useless against her.
Sacrifice damage for defense —> Get 1 shot anyways.
Honestly not the best way to host a challenge but it was fun (until Liandri) seeing all sorts of interesting mechanics being thrown at you.
Mesmer, berserker with centaur runes and mirror for heals. sc+p/sw+focus.
Armor is low so I took mango pies to regenetate to counter her auto attac in phase 1.
In phase 2, just constantly run around the rooms spawning iberserker and duelist whenever you can. Don’t stop, don’t look around. Use Veil to get swiftness and follow that with mirror heal to proc swiftness from centaurs. Perma swiftness cancels out crippled, and weakness doesn’t matter since your phantasms are doing the damage.
You don’t need line of sight to cast phantasms and you can do it while running. Don’t ever stop. After some close calls, when I finally beat her I realized I didn’t have to dodge even once while running around the room. Save your dodges for when you get pulled and need an escape.
Utilities, feedback, decoy and blink though I never used decoy and used feeback whenever I can to reflect her projectiles back at her. If she’s whirling around the veil, phantasm and feedback all send her damage back to her.
Bottom line. Just run. Never stop, don’t look back. Dodge to create clones and Liadri will stay off your back. After using Veil, you can detonate it to pull her back if she’s just behind you.
After trying on warriors and guardians for two days I never thought I’d be able to do it with my mes. Strange how things turn out.
Another Phantasm mesmer here to claim victory.
30/20/0/20/0
I used the truffle soup or whatever gives the 40% endurance refill rate and it helped a ton. Also a sharpening stone.
I had GS and Sword/Focus with focus abilities reflecting projectiles that I would use to hide behind in first phase.
Utilities were: Blink to get the heck out of the Aoe, feedback (blocking 1st phase attacks), and mantra of resolve in case the cripple would be a problem. Elite was Reaper of Grenth that I would use right after second phase started to chill and poison her making her not able to get to me, which gave me time to target and drop phantasms down.
Overall it is extremely easy if the phantasms land at the right time.
Edit: Oh and I was wearing full berserker gear as well.

first of all this challenge was very hard keeping your eye on your health, endurance, your foe, here aoe, here clones and the portals. add a pet survival and you lose control sometimes. but i liked it, it gave that extra challenge i didnt get at other pve content. i even learned the ritme of the aoe falling down in both fases.
Probably the most expensive and hardest challenge i ever faced. biggest problem was that the visions of darkness sneak up behind me while i shot at here. felt like a creeper act. stacked up my sigil of bloodlust mango pie and oil for extra power. pets just jaguar and wolf. i had a good start because my 1e pet didn’t go down. also my previous fighter, a warrior, helped me a little by lingering his banner of discipline in the field ( he died fast ). so a little cheaty tip might be to ask a friend war and place a banner out the ring, you grabbing it and then enter the ring.
8 orb achievement? hell no
(edited by Franklin Fhenrir.4962)
Did it on a warrior, I actually managed to get her to 25% twice with an under geared lvl 40 warrior. It was tough though and so I opted to try it again after levelling to 80. Mostly berserker gear though I had just hit 80 and did not have many exotics.
I was traited for 0/20/15/20/15, and used only a rifle. Rifle melee cleared off orbs and I kept to circle strafing for the duration of the fight with almost constant swiftness thanks to my signet of rage and trait allocations.
I did it on a warrior and I got some advice before, so I knew her mechanics at the beginning, but it took me 60 attempts to get her because I tried the Burst tactic of Wethospu, but that didn’t quite worked out for me. So I got myself a rifle and did it the normal way, did it after 3 attemps and went crazy in my Room.
My traits are 30/30/0/10/0 because I like the 25% movementspeed with a Melee Weapon. Used Greatsword for Mobility and as mentioned a Rifle to kill her.
It isn’t really hard, you just need to figure out the mechanics and learn the AoE rotation while staying away from the clones. Liadri herself doens’t deal much damage if you run away with Swiftness and keep kiting. It was a great fight though, was a lot of fun trying actually and it improved my Character Control greatly.
First tried it with my thief his glass cannon direct damage build, couldn’t sustain myself. Went with my second gear set for p/d condi build, bought some endurance sigils and got her after about 40 attempts. Even had full health and all my dodges left.
The most annoying things about this fight were :
1) The camera
2) Major FPS lag
3) The RNG of the orbs
I think number 1 and 2 played a huge role in half or 2/3 of my attempts
Guardian 0/0/10/30/30 (Boon Duration and Healing Build)
Greatsword + Sword/Focus
I never really bothered with food, but I used Boon Duration food just cause, and had no Nourishment.
Utilities: Shelter / “Hold The Line” / “Stand your Ground” / “Save Yourselves” / Renewed Focus
Focus 5, Shelter, Renewed Focus, and Aegis are all extremely important in this fight, because they can block the AoEs Lliadri throws and her clones if they get too close. It’s best to get the pattern of Phase 1 down, so you can save these for Phase 2, where they help you in a pinch. Pure Of Voice helps a lot in Phase 2 as well, because it helps deal with the Cripple and Weakness she’ll give you.
I ended up going melee on her because Scepter and Staff don’t do enough damage in my opinion. You can DoT her with Greatsword 4 and 5, and use 2 (and 3, if it’s safe enough) to damage her quite a bit.
It’s best to do this fight at the lowest graphic settings possible! It’ll help your fight run smooth, and the less lag, the better.
Even with all that, it’s still a skill-and-luck-based fight, so just keep going at it, keep calm, and you’ll get her down eventually!

Think my build was 20/20/10/20
Took me 80+ tries. Got her on 3rd day of patch release. Thought the fight was hard, but I did not like the glitches (projectiles can’t kill orbs because of obstructed bug).
Just finished the Light Up the Darkness achievement on Guardian, giving up on my idea with the Thief, as I’m just more used to and comfortable with Guardian these days (and I think this may be one of the keys to beating her and getting that additional hard achievement, play a class you feel comfortable on, that you usually play. And it really does help if you go in there calm and not caring, basically that if you fail you just smile and try again, if you keep your adrenaline levels down, it’s easier to not make mistakes the next time around).
I still think this is unnecessarily hard, for temporary content, and I am a firm believer in that everyone, casual and hardcore, should be able to complete everything within temporary content. Give us these hard challenges, with added leaderboards, for permanent content instead and a lot of us will love you long time. I at least think it’d be a lot of fun if the timer was removed and you had leaderboards (split by profession) for longest survivor, most orbs thrown at Liadri, fastest kill, most meat denied Chomper, etc.—It’d also allow for a variety of builds to be used for different tasks. Obviously issues with the arenas themselves would need to be resolved. Instanced? It’s fun with spectators though. Dome design needs to get revised, it’s working against the camera, adding serious frustration due to lack of battlefield awareness. Flooring hides red circles completely for color weak/blind players, should be solid and not in a red-ish tint. My biggest complaints.
For those interested in builds: Guardian. All Celestial armor, all Ascended Celestial trinkets (the backpack is Ascended Soldier, no Celestial available for that slot unfortunately). I don’t think the stats of the armor matters all too much though, and I’m sure Soldier is a great alternative (Exotics are fine as well), as I completed it within the time limit quite easily. As Guardian, Retaliation was key for me. 6x Superior Rune of Flame Legion. Mainly used a (Berserker) Staff, though I had and did switch to a (Soldier) Greatsword after I had thrown 8 orbs. Sigil of Energy on the Staff (never got triggered), Superior Sigil of Strength on the Greatsword (barely used, so Sigils didn’t help me at all in other words. If you’d want to mimic the build you’d be better off with a different Sigil on the Staff at least). Traits: 0 – 0 – 10 (V) – 30 (II, X, XI) – 30 (II, VIII, IX). Utilities: Shelter, “Stand Your Ground”, “Save Yourselves!”, “Hold the Line!”, Renewed Focus. Consumables: Bowl of Orrian Truffle and Meat Stew, Quality Maintenance Oil. Most importantly: Your favorite music to keep your mood up. As soon as I put on a song, and this can of course only be credited to the song, I managed to get the Light Up the Darkness achievement in one go. Music is key!

P/D (in hindsight P/P would have worked also) and Sword/Pistol in the second weapon set to kill orbs and spam headshot until I could switch back to P/D.
I used Orrian meat soup for the 40% endurance regen speed and might.
Kited her around in a circle in phase 2 and just applied poisons. She hardly ever stops moving, so Torment burnt her down pretty quick.
She had about 10% health left and lept at me as I switched to sword set to kill an orb. I was crippled had 2k health left, could only dodge once and was right in the middle of an aoe with four clones running for me. Spammed pistol whip. The first use dodged the AOE and took her down to a sliver, the second use evaded the shadow explosions and killed her.
Had I tried to heal then dodge, the AoE would have killed me. Had I dodged the AoE and tried to heal, her or a shadow would have killed me. It was pretty intense. Well worth the effort.
About 50 attempts on a mesmer because a lot of people in the Pavilion were saying that was the way to go. Got frustrated, switched back to my main, and finished in about 8 tries.

Tried alot of builds and learnt a kitten ton about this class(only just got it to 80). My tactics was simple, phase 1 is super easy takes a few runs to figure out the route, phase 2 was a pain, i often got screwed by the orbs spawning in the aoe and dragging me before i could do anything.. but as long as a enter phase 2 i drag her to me with sword 5 lay down sword 4 and then sword 2, keeps me condition clean and the aoe+retal takes 1/3 of her health if u get it right, the its just the standard kite with scepter, keep her burning by rotating virtue and purging flames.

1) Get Ranged weapon that can inflict decent amount of damage.
2) Learn the pattern of phase one.
3) Learn the pattern of phase two.
4) When the red circle appears – you can wait for 1-2 seconds and only then dodge, you dont have to do it instantly.
5) If you get downed – try hitting the orb – most likelt first 2-3 shots will miss, but it’s still possible.
6) Get food buffs if you need them. Endurance regeneration for example.

0/10 on the camera, 3/10 on the fight. Challenges shouldn’t be about avoiding oneshots all the time (and fighting with the camera for a good view of the battle field). Having some oneshots is good, but Liadri’s fight goes way overboard on them for my taste.

Mostly Fire/Burning multipliers w/ Power and Conditions. Also Conjurer for FGS. I’ve always laughed at how people mock both FGS and condition Eles, and now I feel especially justified. Utilities were Signet of Air, Signet of Earth, and Arcane Shield.
Phase 1 is pretty easy, but I have to start off in Air Attunement because the whip autoattack and Ride the Lightning is especially useful when it comes to getting to and taking out orbs. My goal was to switch to Phase 2 ASAP. Once Phase 2 hit, I spent the first few seconds getting oriented and keeping my distance. Once I got locked into the pattern, my goal was to build up stacks of burning and some bleeds (triggering damage multipliers) while running away and waiting for the right opportunity to summon Fiery Greatsword. Once I had FGS in hand, all I had to do was keep using that locked autoattack and occasionally use Fiery Whirl to move to a safe spot.

Was actually really easy once I got the hang of it. Withdraw and Roll for Initiative were extremely useful if I got caught in the middle of her AoEs with no Endurance left, Signet of Shadows for obvious perma speed boost. Pop Thieves Guild at the start of phase 2 and spam unload on her. Ricochet helped when her visions got in the way.
In all its ok content. I would much rather see these mechanics go into raid bosses or something.

Same as many others have done I’m sure. My thoughts: glad to have it over with, will admit that it was fun now that I got it done, but I think the time limit is too short. I don’t like how invalid a more tanky approach has been made to be. A longer time limit (even if only for Liadri) wouldn’t necessarily make it easier, because the longer you go the more likely you are to make a fatal mistake, but it would make more builds viable. I also think the orb placement carries too much luck in it, and there’s maybe not enough warning for their spawn. Cheesy.

Devona’s Rest
I bashed her kittening skull open several times with Warrior, but I still think she is broken and poorly designed.
Camera, lag, luck based orb and many many other things around her just makes the encounter more frustrating than actually challenging.
She is like that belchers bluff norn kitten, but for some reason people can’t seem to understand that poor design is not a challenge, its kittening fight against windmills.

Troll Unguent – for hp regen slot
Signet of The Hunt – for added movement speed
Signet of Renewal – for taking off conditions every ten seconds
Signet of the Wild – for hp regen
Rampage as One – for adding movement speed, crit, and stability
i used the barrage aoe for the orbs during the first phase. i also went in a counter clock-wise rotation during her second phase and didn’t even bother with orbs during the second phase, i used point blank shot to get her away from me from time to time and switch to my short bow for a short burst of movement speed and to cripple and daze her for a bit, switched back to my long bow to shoot her away again and rapid fire.
- her cripple attack is just so annoying
- i decided to take a huge gamble during the second phase of her fight and not bother targeting those orbs because they’re a waste of time trying to get, her clones are always in the way, and you sometimes attack her clones instead of her.
- those orbs did pull me in during the second phase twice and under those shadow orbs that come down and instant kill you, though you can always just dodge out of the way the second you get back up from the pull of the orbs.
as annoying and frustrating as she was, it was absolutely worth it. i know you can’t sell the mini (wouldn’t want to) – my hands are still a bit shakey from the fight. i haven’t had that happen in a long long time, grateful for that.
- i can also honestly say: “screw going for that 8 orb achievement, i’m never fighting against her again” and i’ll definitely salute to those players that attempt and get it.

30/30/0/10/0
Scepter/Dagger, no secondary weapon. Full Rabid gear, a mixture of greens and yellows. (No exotics)
Blood is Power/Signet of the Locust – third utility and elite never got used.
Did it in one attempt. Phase two barely lasted any time at all, I think the might from Blood is Power was still on me when it ended. In comparison my Ranger was struggling to meet the time requirement. Just goes to show how insane condition damage can be when it’s not being smothered by the stack limits in a zerg.
Honestly I think that once people get the hang of this fight, it won’t be nearly as bad as people on the boards are currently making it out to be. I expect a ton of mini Liadri’s in Lion’s Arch by the end of the event.
