6 areas in the crowns pavilions, big enemies from the Humans. I get most of them, but Ogres?

idk, but if I think of struggles humanity had to face, it would be the Mursaat? You might say: “but the mursaat were the human enemies in GW1, not now!” what about the Flame Legion? It are the Charr who destroyed Ascalon!(also a GW1 nemesis)

and the destroyers, the main foe in Guild Wars: Eye of the North

Well you could say, bandits work for white mantle, who worship the Mursaat, but that’s a stretch.

I do not fully agree with the choice and Mursaat could have ome back easily with the mesmerized Clockwork people.

It is about their current and/or recent enemies though. Not distant and rather unknown (in the game world) ones. The Flame Legion actually IS one of the enemies you doface there.

The Destroyers: the main enemy of Guildwars: Eye of The North

Prophecies had 2 major enemies, Charr (Later we knew it was the flame legion) and the Mursaat/White Mantle, (And I can see Titans/undead being the third faction, but they were less seen)

You spelled “opportunity” wrong.

On topic, just give it time. We can call it a missed opportunity once a few years go by and we don’t see any new destroyers or elder dragons or something.

That’s how the super cool kidz call it these days :p, but ty, I’ll change it.

I agree, we really need more Dragons to slay!

But Mursaat are just a more important nemesis than Ogres or even Pirates.

For this release we stuck to enemies that can actually be seen fighting humans throughout the game. Ironically enough, that logic makes Flame Legion the weakest association. Of course, we could have included Separatists or Charr Renegades, but Queen Jennah would probably avoid any sort current sensitive foreign relation issues.

I understand, creating a entire new foe, which is also not just a skale, but needs a lot of mechanics is pretty hard, especially just for temporary content.

I originally had the Mursaat/White Mantle as one of the factions. They’re certainly a stronger pick than something like bandits or pirates, but there’s a lot of factors that go into these sorts of things. Creating a new army never before seen is pretty complex and takes a lot of time and iteration. Not only is there a large design cost for it, but art has to create a brand new environment, new armor, new character models, new weapons, and those are not simple tasks either. I played a ton of GW1, so I know their significance. I also knew how much time I had to do this, what my asset request bank was, and knew that I couldn’t do the Mursaat justice… especially with such a small area.
If I’m gonna do Mursaat and White Mantle, I (as a hardcore GW1 player) would want it to be epic and grand. We haven’t ..forgotten.. about them, I just have higher expectations for them than what I was capable of putting out in this release.

…and yes I’m proud of that reference.

Mursaat is impossible, they serve an evil human god, and are evil through and through, so they could never be a playable race.

Plus, it would be EXTREMELY bad form to have one of the racial allies you can pick in the Personal Story as an “enemy of humanity”. Same reason why there’s no Skritt, Hylek or Quaggan beat-down.

EDIT: Ah, I mis-interpreted the above comment. Ogres ARE an enemy in one of the sectors. Then again, Ogres aren’t a selectable ally for Human players, so maybe that’s why they went ahead.

Skrit, Quaggans, and Hylek as a whole are not an enemy of humanity, or any rave for that matter, simply certain factions are aggressive, similar to how all races have their own antagonist, IE; bandits and flame legion.
Whereas the Mursaat are evil by nature.

You think the charr fighting to reclaim their homeland are the bad charr?

I thought it was strange the White Mantle weren’t on the list but then I realised they would need new models. The only way I see that happening is if they were going to be in the Living Story, which would have been a huge spoiler.

Well, technically Mursaat were “only” preventing their own destruction. Having a “total annihilation” prophecy hovering on your head might make you consider a lot of unsavory choices.

So you’re saying they couldn’t have made treaties and alliances with humanity, and moved in peacefully? The Ascolanians killed by the flame legion were innocent, and do not deserve to pay for what their ancestors did. Or are you saying Native Americans should rise up and slay all Americans with foreign blood because our ancestors stole their land? They were ordered to attack the humans by their evil god, which, if I remember correctly has something to do with the fallen human god, not because they simply wanted their home back. And even know the flame legion is a villainous crew. Where as the muscats, it was not the fraction, but the race as a whole that were bad to the core.

You are wrong about the Mursaat. They never served any god (that we know). Those who served the human fallen god Abaddon, were the Margonites, not Mursaat.

Traitors have always been an empires true downfall.

Most empires fall due to the empire fighting itself, not due to any outside force (though outside forces can take advantage of internal fighting to finish off a dying empire). There is only so much corruption a society can take before a critical point arises in which the government breaks down and new factions spring up to claim portions of the wreckage.

So, just because some of the vikings ran around and raided villages, killed and kitten d people it would be a retcon to state that not all Scandinavians raid, kill and kitten ?

We saw everything from the Ascalonian (Human) side in Prophecies, of course we would see the Charr as mindless beasts with no good in them.

I am simply stating that using your logic was silly.

None of the Charr we actually saw suddently turned around and became good, and yet you claim that it was retconned instead of accepting the fact that we saw a very small part of the Charr and it was very possible that there were good charr even before EoTN.

Oh, i’m pretty sure that Pyre’s warband did their share of raiding, burning and killing. I’m pretty sure that a lot of the current non-flame legion charrs wouldn’t mind some raiding either, and some others are against it… but only as long as the charrs have bigger problems with the Branded on their heads. It’s just that the game has serious problems with shades of grey, and tries to show everything in black and white colors that we get the “flame legion – bad, all other charr – good” presentation.

You are acting like GW lore are actual events and the games are showing us windows into this parallel universe.

Fact there were no good Charr in Prophecies but then they decided that Charr were going to be a playable race in GW2 and started retconning things starting with EOTN.
